Also, the Akira route is both a nod to Devilman (Akira Fudo being possesed by Amon) and was the inspiration for Nocturne's Demi-fiend (Akira's battle theme was also remixed in Nocturne). Being also the game that spawned the Persona series clearly is proof of how important this is. But I can see why someone might not like it. I'm almost at the end the first route here on my channel and I'm hating the fact I can't buy the previously captured demons like in more modern games in the franchise.

The "You should play it because of how weird it is" and the footage of someone naming the protagonist simp were the best parts. When I watched Marsh´s videos I was so bothered by how he didn´t see how obvious of a Devilman reference the character of Akira is. And my favourite part of those videos was Reiko dumping the protagonist in order to go with some Chad. Followed my Marsh´s comment on the matter.

This is one of my favorite mainline games in the series lol. The intro where you explore the school was a weirdly engaging experience that immediately hooked me on the game, something Revelations Persona managed to do for me as well. Marsh explained it the best when he says it’s similar to a game like Yume Nikki, just a weird game. Has a lot of shit in it tho, can’t deny that.
17:00 Seriously, tell him to play through Akira's route, it's pure gameplay but it's so much fun if you love the dungeon crawling, fusing, exploiting the game's mechanics, etc. It's like going from Persona to SMT, no lengthy social links only dungeon crawling. Akira's route is like going from regular SMT to even more concentrated dungeon crawling. Seriously, do it, the bosses are new and great, there are new demons you can recruit, and all the grinding you do makes the final boss really easy, it's not a challenge, and the giant tower is much better than the dungeons in the main game (ewww Sloth). I agree with you on that sentiment, Sloth is the worst JRPG dungeon I've ever seen in my life, I really cannot think of anything worse except maybe SMT4A's final dungeon which was bland and too long. But even still, Sloth's quirk was just too terrible. I'm too crazy, I knew that fox would get big and strong if I took all the treasures so I did so anyways. If you get the powerful sword from never dying you can do ~300 per hit, and I swear that powered-up fox had 20k HP+. Man I love these games. SMT If had some bosses that even did insta-kill moves, you need to go to the casino to get hama/mudo proof armor or keep casting tetraja.

What I find interesting about IF is that the protagonist's gender also determines what it leads to. If female, it's Tamaki Uchida from P1 (as noted in the video); she explicitly references this game's events in a few dialogues. Meanwhile, the sequel manga uses a male protagonist; I'm not sure if it implies him choosing a particular route, but Thorman and Gotou appear - and Tokyo still ends up flooded / post-apocalyptic as in 1. This has been "Shill Megami Tensei."
Entertaining and accurate description of an extremely unusual game. Definitely sold me on giving Akira's route another go to see if I enjoy it more than the rest of the game as a whole. It's great to get a window into the full process for these from the playthrough to the final product. Really shows how much work gets put in.
I honestly think this; along with the original Devil Summoner and both Digital Devil Saga games, need a remake. It's rough by the standards of modern RPG design, but there is truly interesting story themes. Not to mention Tamaki herself makes an appearance in the original Persona.

I came here thinking it was a video of someone else’s idea for a SMT spinoff game, but this was fun. I actually came up for an idea for a new SMT If game with some other gimmicks in it. For starters, this game does NOT take place in an apocalyptic setting or some realm where demons naturally appear. This takes place in Tokyo, part of the gimmick is having to hide the abilities you gain from this a secret from the rest of the world or risk getting dissected! The MC gains his power from Lucifer himself after getting a mortal injury trying to save a Pixie (first demon companion) that was caught in the crossfire of a fight between demons and angels! Lucifer infuses the MC with a sample of both his own demonic essence and the last vestiges of his angelic essence and uses the MC to try and stop the fighting from having human casualties (he would do so on the demon side himself, but he was overthrown by a demon named Satan who is his own demon here). The method the MC gets his powers also uses a different take on the alignment system, whether you go for angel or demon depends on the humans you kill. If you kill good humans, you level up the demon side and it starts overtaking the angel side; Vice versa for if you kill bad humans. Killing no humans allows you to level up both sides and get all the benefits of both. It still has three endings in this, and a different romance option depending on the ending (the closest you get to a harem ending is the neutral ending and even then the actual girl said ending focuses on only allows it because the other girl is the Pixie you start with who threatened to steal him for herself if the girl didn’t share)! I highly doubt Atlus would want to invest in this kind of idea, but hey I could be wrong!
I like to think that Akira is a reference to devilman all the way. In devilman: The MC name is Akira. He possesed Amon. (The if akira is possesed so that's a change) And he looks quite similar. 16:05 yup, just as what i said
Something interesting about Yumi actually is that she is pretty two faced She’s initially a kindhearted person who wants to save the school… but if you go into one of the classes in her route you get a scene where she insults Reiko and calls her a “stuck up princess” implying that Yumi is actually a bully and not all that better than Charlie

i played this game up until the end of the second dungeon after that my save file got deleted but in my short time playing this i liked it and it's my favorite old smt game and i liked it alot more than soul hackers
It's funny how the first walk through I saw for this game says his best advice is to not play it. It's the worst smt game next to apocalypse. Yet the author still played enough to make a walk through.
i hate this game so much, it was such a disappointment. the worst part was the music was mostly lifted from smt 2 and smt 1, with some admittedly cool remixes, but still nothing new.
