  • This video shows you how to implement the "MIDI PC Learn" process so you can do channel switching on the Amp1 from your HX Effects presets.
    A few prerequisites:
    1) You must have the Blug MIDI1 Adapter, there is no substitute for this device. The MIDI1 connects to a normal MIDI cable into your HX Effects.
    2) Turn MIDI Clock OFF in your HX Effects - in Global Settings
    3) Be sure to use Channel 1 in all your MIDI Commands, this is the only channel that Amp1 receives. You can do this explicitly within each MIDI command, OR you can set your HX Effects BASE Channel to 1 and then just leave the default setting of BASE within each MIDI command. I did both in this video because I forgot on the Classic Channel setting to say "1" but it still worked :-)
    4) I highly recommend that before you try this, you use MIDI to toggle Boost on/off just to make sure you know how the Command Center works, and that your 2 devices are really talking to each other!
    5) IGNORE THE VERY LAST PART - That was before I knew you must turn OFF MIDI PC TX on the HX Effects.

    Thanks for the informative videos!
    If I set it up like this there is some delay when switching presets...it doesn't really run that smooth (Line 6 Helix Floor).
    I tried setting this up using snapshots...but it looks like the midi learn function doesn't quite work when trying to assign a amp channel to a snapshot...
    Any idea how to make this work without having to use presets?

    • @patgiff101055
      @patgiff101055  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works just as well with Snapshots, I set mine up both ways. You should always save the preset when you go from one snapshot to another. It should be no problem whatsoever. Let me know if you still have problems.

    So you CAN use program 100 again and again on different presets for a particular channel? My Iridium is giving me problems when hooked up 4cm with the HXFX. All lights start flashing and no sound, happens randomly usually after 10 minutes or so. Does not happen with HXFX disconnected.

      Hi Dan
      Yes of course you can
      I use the same PC‘s for the 4 channels over and over in many presets
      You need to determine if your problem is coming from your MIDI setup
      Look at the FB page and make sure you have everything right

    Can you save the setting on the eq and gain on the amp 1? For instance can you have your vintage patch with gain on 3 but your classic patch with gain on 7??

    • @patgiff101055
      @patgiff101055  ปีที่แล้ว

      1) EQ cannot be saved as the Amp1 EQ controls are totally analog and not exposed to the MIDI system. 2) YES you can set Gain at any time via a CC20 command, not via the MIDI PC which is used to select Channel/Reverb/Boost. That means the channel select and the gain setting are totally independent of one another. CC20 has a value of 0-127, this relates to what % of the physical OD Gain (or Clean Volume!) you have on the dials. So here is what I do: 1) I set Clean Volume AND OD Gain to 10 and leave them there, forever. Period. 2) In my preset/snapshot I use an Instant Command to send a CC20 to set whatever Gain (OD) or Volume (Clean) I want to use. It's that simple. There's more: you can CHANGE Gain at any time by assigning a footswitch to send a different CC20 command, AND/OR you can even assign the Expression Pedal to be sending CC20 which means you can change Gain on the fly with your expression pedal! how can I send the IC through snapshots?

    • @patgiff101055
      @patgiff101055  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very simple. Each snapshot has its own Command Center environment. In HX Edit go to Window then Command Center. Choose which IC you want to send in that snapshot. Save it. Done. Good luck!

    Two questions. I don't understand the whole program number thing. 105, 110, 115 etc...what does it mean and why does it exist what is its importance?

    • @patgiff101055
      @patgiff101055  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use any program number you choose. I used 105,110,115 in the video but that was just my personal choice. In my daily rig I use 10, 20, 30, 40 to select the 4 channels. You decide which program number to assign to each channel by putting it into the Command Center when you define your presets. You could use anything between 0 and 127.
      The Amp1 responds to a PC program number but you must „train“ it to know which PC means which channel, otherwise it has no idea. That is what MIDI Learn is all about.
      Does that make sense?

    Hello, can you give us a detail on the complete wiring of your pedalboard?

    • @patgiff101055
      @patgiff101055  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris! Sure no problem.
      The first thing to understand is that I use the HX Effects for both electric and acoustic guitars. I made another video about this, but basically I use Stereo Pan blocks in each and every preset. All electric guitar presets start and end with a 100% LEFT Pan at the Input and Output. My (1) acoustic preset starts and ends with a 100% RIGHT Pan at Input and Output. That allows me to keep both E and A guitars connected all the time and only the right sound goes in and comes out where I want it. So that will help you understand how I have connected everything.
      So if you look at my board in the video:
      ELECTRIC SIDE (uses 4CM)
      Electric Guitar -> Boss AB2-> HX LEFT INPUT
      HX SEND 1 -> Amp1 Input
      Amp1 SEND -> HX Effects RETURN
      HX Effects LEFT OUTPUT -> Amp1 RETURN
      Amp1 SPEAKER OUT - BluBox IN
      BluBox THRU -> TwinCab (or any cab)
      BluBox BALANCED OUT -> Mixer Input
      ACOUSTIC SIDE (much simpler)
      Acoustic Guitar -> HX RIGHT INPUT
      HX RIGHT OUTPUT -> LD Systems DI BOX
      DI BOX -> Mixer Input
      My Expression pedal is connected to Exp1 on the HX Effects, that way I can use it for many different purposes: e.g. I assign MIDI 07 ( "2nd Master Volume" on the Amp1) to the Exp Pedal so I can fine tune my overall volume on the fly. I do this in every electric preset. On my acoustic preset, since Amp1 is not used, I have a Volume Pedal block in the signal chain and assign this to my Exp Pedal. I strongly recommend that if you have a combined volume/expression pedal you set it to be an expression pedal and connect it to Exp1 or Exp1 on the HX Effects. That way it is not getting into your signal chain at all and messing with your tone in any way.
      I used to have the Digitech Drop sitting in front of the Boss AB2 (as in the photo) but with the latest HX Effects firmware I do not need the Drop any more, I use the Poly Capo effect instead.
      Hope this helps! If you want to go deeper into the REAL Dream Rig, look us up in Facebook - and join our elite group!
