    Practicing an imstrument is like 1/2 practicing scales and the other half just starting over and over again failing on the same part on the sheet music until rage quitting

      If you keep missing one part, I would recommend practicing it slower and patiently. It's like you're typing your password wrong but still can't understand why. You look at the keyboard and type it slowly, then you get your correct password, that's how it works. You shouldn't play in the original tempo when practicing a new song because you're anxious or "don't wanna waste time". You are going to learn it slower, willing or not. Practicing is not about speed, it's about accuracy.

    1. Playing random pieces for half an hour

    4. On the phone and drinking iced coffee

  • @estherpettigrew3042
    @estherpettigrew3042 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    SO TRUE. Pianist here. My practice includes lengthy moments of rhythm work as I clap out competing RH vs LH rhythms and sound like the drunk at the pop concert. Then, there’s the tonnes of repeated notes and chords as I work to strengthen my ring and pinky fingers individually, to balance against other fingers in chords and runs and sound like a kid just whaling on a keyboard. Not to mention repetition of short phrases to work on fine-tuning dynamic control, rhythm precision, and muscle memory and I sound like the most irritating, skipping LP. Then practicing smooth transitions from one section to another which involves repeating the last notes of one section through the first notes of the next an obsessive number of times and it sounds like I’m showcasing all the ways to do it wrong instead of trying to do it right. Never mind that trills are my Waterloo so I end up sounding like an lopsided emergency vehicle for hours on end. 😂
    God bless the others in my household and neighborhood! I think I’ll get them noise-cancelling headsets for Christmas.

    I’ll usually spend forever tuning, try to play some scales, play a song, and then stop. It usually sounds bad when practicing but somehow I show improvement when I play with my orchestra and it’s like “this sounded awful yesterday, where did the good sounds come from XD”
