I was a rotary mechanic for Mazda years ago when the 3rd gen came out.. there has always been a place on my heart for them for the exception of the rats nest in the two rotor under the intake.. LOL that 4 rotor is absolutely gorgeous love the finish what a amazing powertrain this will be ..WELL DONE WELL DONE!!!
super lite, super small, super powerful and thats why it is used for light plane engines. and if we ever have flying cars they would most likely use 4 rotary engines. 1 on each corner.
Yup! It brings back memories! I used to build those rotary motors on the 80's start from 10a all the way to 13b pp! Love those rotaries except for gas fumes til now I still have rotary cough ! Lol
Son, I go way back. Muscle cars, then sport compacts. My wife Jill was one of AMS first customers. I designed for a while. You work like a friend I knew at school- like a surgeon. I respect your perfectionism and results. Now let's hear it run!
When I was 18 and at home in Spokane Washington a new dealer opened up shop and offered the first Mazda R100. I drove my Corvair in and was amazed at these cool little cars with such a tiny odd engine. The salesman sat with me and when I started it he said to floor it while we talked. My better instinct knew better, but it was his car. 7 years later I bought a new RX4 station-wagon that was one of the nicest, quietest cars I've ever owned. It was silent at an idle and you could balance a coin on the engine to the amazement of my friends. I was determined to make that car last a long time buy NOT ABUSING that engine. But even after warning him to not over-rev it, a friend and I took it for a drive and he pegged the tach on every shift, much to my anger met with his scoffing. Sure enough within 6000 miles it started to smoke and at 8 I took it in only to be told that the engine needed to be replaced under warranty. That's when Mazda let me down by saying the new engine was only warranted for 12 when the original was for I think 50K. I sold it at a loss soon after. I still firmly believe in the rotary Wankel concept and will not consider it "dead"as it is the simplest proven means of internal combustion.
the guy i bought my FD from (friend of the owner? even when the business was young) told me this was the guy to talk to if you want anything rotary. he does amazing work.
The upper and lower plenum work is a work of art and the fuel rails just tuck in place, I modified my lower plenum on my 20B, not just install block off plates, Is a much cleaner look.
Alucinante este motor de Mazda, ausencia de pistones y máxima eficacia, cuando se trata de motores rotativos creo que son los mejores. Enhorabuena por el vídeo.
Best engine swap ever. If you know what you're doing the rotary is simple to maintain and repair. Screw an Ls and having to repair slung rods and stuck lifters/valves every 80k miles plus being so damn heavy.
Daaam...having the knowledge and ability of building a rotory engine of 2,4,5,6 rotors is an art and gotta be gifted of souuu much skillz...i wud of rebuilted my engine and i have to depend on a mechanic to do this rebuild on my favorite car.🫤🫤
You live in navarre? Thats a sweet ride from cleveland where im from, i just got me a 16 focus st and wanna throw it in some twisties but dont know any decent places, i work installing windows in cars so i go almost everyday to youngstown, warren, alliance, ravenna, akron, canton, minerva, newbury, rootstown... damn near everywhere really
Really wish Mazda could build crate engines that are essentially ready to go for off to road use. Nothing wrong with shops builds like this... usually... but production through Mazda could help funds for next gen vehicles.
This is engine can run without the bolts, it’s not recommended but it is possible which makes me think how thoughtful the engineering was when the 13b was designed.
Is this from the car I've seen at the NASA MidOhio events? Such a beautiful car. I had no idea you were based in Pataskala. We're practically neighbors lol
No, this is a build for my customer. My personal race car is naturally aspirated. Thank you very much! I'll be making a in-depth build video of it hopefully soon.

Rotor is such a cool design and by far one of the best sounding engines ever built

That's one hell of a clean motor right there. Great job, looks awesome, can't wait to see a video of it firing up.

Instrumental version of Bronki Beats' "Tell Me Why" is a nice accompaniment.
Hi from NZ,

Its Small Town Boy. Found myself whistling it along with the synth at the start & was amazed when the beat kicked in & it was the actual song...haha

Now building a billet rotary assembly would be interesting.
This is engine can run without the bolts, it’s not recommended but it is possible which makes me think how thoughtful the engineering was when the 13b was designed.
They do require the bolts to run. Without them the "sandwich" would not be held together and fall apart.
i love RX7 and RX8 is my dreams
Good luck to you and your rotary engine.
And then you have the enjoyment of rebuilding this engine every 1000 miles... :D :D :D
Dang rotary!
nice and a pratick engine is VANKEL!
Do you have videos of the finished car? I would love to see how it behaves when driven.
