always a pleasure to listen to an expert on any topic, but particularly Simon where every word out of his mouth is informative and laid back, with zero hype .. love it, very well done
That 20b is a thing of beauty, absolutely 100% a work of art. As for Simon at Promaz, the guy has so much knowledge which is priceless in this game. Thank you Fullboost for bringing such an informative video of the build 👌🏻
Amazing how Simon walks us through the process so calmly, explaining his build process with humility. No doubt a mind and skills forged in the practice of his craft over 26 years. Thank you for sharing!
The rotary is one in sane 2 stroke! i got a few OMC rotary sled motors and they love xd-100. My GF runs and fills a few quarts of Amsoil Dominator synthetic 2 stroke oil and it works great.
The fuel consumption on a the RX-8 really hampered it as a serious proposition in the market. That would have made it even worse. Remember, you dont just need a few rotary nuts to buy one, you need normal sane people to do so as well.
Simon is a absolute legend, i used to love hearing his rotarys sing while i was working across the road cutting cabinets, kinda miss it actually.. Simon if you read this remember that black XR6 turbo that Interior f****** stunk hahaha...
It's always a pleasure to watch one of the 'older gentemen' of the rotary scene imparting their knowledge and still showing the younger guys how to build engines.
That by far is one of the most beautiful engines ever!! Absolutely gorgeous!! Back in 1978 I rebuilt my Mazda RX2 engine in my barracks room. It was alot of fun to say the least. That little RX2 would get up and go!!
Way back when I was an awful lot younger, we knew these engines as Wankel engines, named after the German company that developed them in the 1950's. Such an incredible example of extremely high precision engineering. Great to see that there are people around, like Simon, dedicated to this old and still evolving (revolving) technology.
Truly Autoerotica at its finest. A beautiful engine making a wonderful sound. Assembled by a Master Craftsman with decades of experience with calm, clear, and concise conversation. 10/10, will watch again...
There's just something so incredibly soothing to see a rotary being built. Would love to hear & see more about the eccentric shaft bearing setup, specially in that coming 4-rotor build!
Hi an AMAZING Piece of engineering ,I didn,t know there was such a following for the Mazda rotary engine still after all these years .You rarely hear much about them in the UK .Thank you for this video .
Wow an amazing video guys!!... I think it's definitely the future of rotary engines beyond Mazda manufacturing ...The billet gear is like rotary heaven so can't wait to see how the future development and other parts turn out.
Promaz and Pac Racing are probably the best for building aftermarket rotary engines from scratch and all have their unique philosophies in engine building, but the end results are both good. Great job guys. Nice to know if your OEM rotary engine blows up, there's still businesses building and manufacturing their own branded rotary engines and better than the OEM manufacturer.
I’ve never really worked on a rotary but people who have constantly tell me they are crazy easy to take apart and put back together I’m looking forward at trying one
Takes a master to blend the old with the new and make something awesome. Love watching this. Also the line "you'll hear my wrist click, I've done this a million times", no need for a torque wrench. So funny.
Oh my... how sexy is that 3 Rotor - well done...and that torque wrench looks like a "warren & brown" with a pin to let you know when you hit the right setting - very nice wrench.
Used my Warren and Browns for 30 years on a weekly basis. Personally Checked calibration every 3 months and only needed adjustment twice out of 3 wrenches due to the popper pins getting worn. You could submerge them and clean them and the always hold calibration. Unlike the modern stuff even the electronic ones where they rely on grease and/or piezo sensors that need frequent calibration.
Depending on where you are at…. Defined auto works near Columbus Ohio builds a 4 rotor for about 40k. I watched him do a 1-5 gear pull in the country and it was unreal. It puts out about 700 NA and 1200 with boost.

Simon, is a absolute gentleman, sounds so calm and see his passion for the rotor, in his work.
If it's possible, you should add this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pressure_wave_supercharger to your engine.

@Z Der Macher they're a famously smooth motor under power. Can be balanced similar to a piston motor
Why do these have to be so damn EXPENSIVE 😪
"still going to be a messy turbo..."
This is probably one of the best half hours I’ve ever spent on the internet, I could honestly watch this guy assemble engines for hours on end
This looks way easier than a piston engine. It's like stacking blocks.
There's allot
Not really, I have a 04 RX8 and had a 86Rx7 , rotary motor’s are leaps and bounds easier than a piston engine.
STIL BIG ENGINE SO PRIMITIVE 😋
Like minecraft
Yeah of course because they are no timing belts valves and so on

So whats your engine budget..... *Blank stare*.... budget mate....? *Blank stare*. Message received. Billet 20b is on the way.
Hahahahaha!
I bet it's around 50k
Holy crap. Are you serious that is what this motor costs?
about $22500. A billlet engine costs off the self.
@@VicFroman If you divide dollars through hp it's not that expensive..

Anyone that makes or built or even tune Rotary are big brain 24/7
Seems like a really nice guy also
A stress-free N/A 3 rotor was the engine the RX-8 should have had. 300-320HP stock and it would have been a fitting successor to the legendary RX-7.
I 100% agree with you. An NA 3 rotor should of been the RX8 engine.
@@viper22jc wouldve never worked with emissions
@@viper22jc A 3 rotor engine is inevitably more prone to overheating and less balanced. I think the Renesis was the correct choice

the real solution would've been the 2.3l MZR engine. Not so much rx but it would've been a crazy silvia replacement

As a tradie I love watching a master tradesmen do something he loves to do. The finished product is just on a another level. Beautiful
I’ll have to sit down and watch this later. Nice.
Thanks for letting us know
Make sure you let as all know when your about to take a shit too then take a sample and give it a sniff.

Why am I so interested in a rotary engine! I don’t have a rotary car but they are so interesting!

What Simon says, is only a fraction of what he does.

I've watched this video countless times, what a piece of art the rotary engine is perfect 👌

love to see the old Warren Brown Torque Wrench in action. you dont need to spend thousands on Snapon or something.
I nearly bought the old Warren Brown warehouse in Footscray. Was gonna turn it into my home. But site had a lot of contamination problems.
