  • @stephen3164
    @stephen3164 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    The Si Drive does NOT affect the suspension. It is merely throttle position mapping and boost target adjustment. i Mode is for fuel economy, while S is normal, and S# has the most aggressive “tune”. (pressing the gas pedal a little gives you more actual throttle than the S mode)
    With a tune, you can change the way Si Drive works. Cobb puts different target boosts in the different modes.
    In dry weather, put it in S# and adjust the DCCD to “-“ which shifts power rearward.

    • @stephen3164
      @stephen3164 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Vasya Pupkin Sorry - yes, the actual technical aspect of how the DCCD settings work are pages long. It doesn’t send more power rearward, but it allows more slip between front to back which aids in turn in as the drive system isn’t fighting back in hard cornering which would otherwise cause understeer.
      I think the torque split in auto mode is 59:41. In manual mode this can be adjusted a little further, or be in full lock at 50:50 (wet use only!) - but in auto mode the +/- only adjusts the amount of slip in the diff. It effectively feels like sending more power rearward in “-“ only because it is letting the front wheels slip more.
      People often compare the WRX to the STi and only compare the hp differences (especially when they both had EJ engines), but the STi’s bag of tricks are its mechanical limited slip diffs and DCCD - along with direct linkage 6 speed transmission. (As opposed to the cable linkage on the WRX, and it used to only be a 5 speed on WRX...)

Being able to tune in 3 different drive modes with different boost and throttle responses without the need of a aftermarket ECU unit is great.

    • @skimmilkm
      @skimmilkm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mail-in Entry: To obtain an entry without making a purchase, Eligible Entrants also have the option to obtain one (1) Sweepstakes entry via mail by legibly hand-printing, on a 3”x 5” card or paper, their full name, complete mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address, and mailing the card in a hand-printed #10 envelope, with proper postage affixed, to: Prime Performance, 103 Sparta Rd. Building D Unit 6, Stanhope, NJ 07874. There is no limit to how many postal entry requests, but each envelope/request must be mailed separately. All entries must be postmarked by July 14, 2019, and received by July 22, 2019.
      By entering via online or mail-in, you consent to receive email announcements from Prime Performance.
      I had a coworker some time ago that would mail in buckets of envelopes with entries to win prizes. It isn't doable anymore because companies caught on and entries have to be hand written and you can purchase so many entries with so little money making it more worth time and money to just buy shit instead of mail in. The rules supposedly are there to not be considered gambling which is supposedly illegal to do so across state borders.

    Driving modes don't affect suspension. It isn't that fancy. It's pretty much throttle mapping, and that's about it.
    The Forester does not have the STI transmission. I don't think the clutch is very different between the 5 speed and 6 speed transmissions. The downside is the 5 speed needs a heavier spring plate for the same torque holding as the 6 speed clutch.
    If you want the transmission, you need to buy a modded one with a swap or do it yourself to get one into the Forester. I bought mine to get it, and I've been happy with it for the last 6 years. The STI transmission is a bulletproof thing which is awesome. You can't break it.

    Mr. Regular: "Loud doesnt mean fast..."
    I totally agree Mr. Regular! You should definitely make an episode on that!
    I personally like tasteful noise... Now, for most people, they dont think tasteful is a proper definition and they would disregard my comment based off the prejudice that I would be pretentious and a downer. In reality, tastefulness is as measurable as your typical music, clothing, etc. It's all roughly based off of scientific advancement, technology and psychological perception. let's get into it.
    Cars that sound good are considered sounding good because of the "why": Why does the car sound this way? What are the benefits of its merge in technologies? What sets it apart from its competition? Etc.
    The reason WHY Subarus were considered good sounding cars is because for a while on the market, there were really only one selling flat 4: the EJ. Not only that, but the architecture was considered pretty sloppy, so when the engine would get a lot of wins in rally, it was considered somewhat of an underdog story. The Subaru was the underdog japanese company for a while, which is why it's impressive to see a 1990-2007 wrx/sti impreza on the road and NOT the 2008-onwards. The EJ, being such a sloppy engine, is why the rattle is so satisfying: its like how our grandfathers like that V8 rumble from high timing carberated muscle cars. Matter of culture and lifestyle. This is why its always more impressive to the big car collectors of exotic sound than just heavy and popping sound. Those are just not needed these days. Fact is, the douchebags who buy them mercedes, GT500s, Challengers and BMWs dont know how dull and dumb sounding their pops and crackles sound, because they honestly arent useful or prove anything other than: "I haev e greyt karr!!"

      Vespid Coffee275 they got discontinued and the new fa24 is going into the new top model. Great power and mpg and it’s tuned for 87

    • @vespidcoffee
      @vespidcoffee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jay bosher yeah I know they were discontinued. That doesn’t stop him from doing reviews of older cars. I quite love it. It’s not as rare as the GT from 2011. But they don’t appear often. The CVT is a bit of a downer tho.

    • @jaybosher6144
      @jaybosher6144 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vespid Coffee275 true. The power numbers out of the new fa24 are great but the tranny kills it. But I bet it wouldn’t be getting the 40 highway out of a normal 6 speed

    • @vespidcoffee
      @vespidcoffee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jay bosher lol 😂 you’d absolutely be right about that. I often get 17-18 MPG in City and get 27.6 MPG max (so far from what I’ve done). Mine is a 5 speed CVT the future 3.6R gens after this have a 6 speed. But I don’t know how much better that is MPG wise.
      I really like the 6 cylinder though, the power delivery is smooth and from what sites say it can go 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. From my experience I’d say it could do that. But it’s weirdly lacking in torque.... so even with the get up it doesn’t feel fast.
      I’m honestly looking forward to seeing how the new turbos turn out.

    • @vespidcoffee
      @vespidcoffee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jay bosher my main issue with the CVT is this was the first generation CVT they put in Subaru until the their facelifts I believe... which kinda freaks me out based off from what I’ve heard about their reliability from their early years.
      I don’t know if it’s been blown out of proportion. But for me it’s treated me well
