Yes, you could easily get custody of Connor, but only partial. Something like seeing his son on every second weekend or something. 100 000$ for full custody and for her to piss off sounds like a good deal. And we don't know from the 4 months later update how this deal was finalized, whether it was notarized or not and whether she applied to surrender full custody to the other party. We only know it has been kept secret from the family, nothing more. I assume if Darren is smart, he will most likely have consulted a lawyer. ...unless the whole story is an exercise in creative writing.

Judges actually like out of court settlements, because there isn't a lot of deliberation, they just have to glance over the documents, check if there are no glaring errors that could be grounds for an appeal, and they are done. So the "selling" of the child for money could actually be worded something like this: "our party (Chloe) won't challenge your party (Darren) on a prospective full custody suit if you pay our party 100 grand". And that would not be legally considered "selling" anybody as Darren obviously has some claim to custody as a biological parent. He is qualified to take in Connor. And settling an otherwise completely legal lawsuit, even in exchange for a payment is also okay.

I find it interesting that Connor was so quick to start calling them mom and dad. As for the money I would have taped (if not legal then there would be a paper trail)the conversations about the money transactions and taken her to court for custody. This was an interesting story. So, I'm going to look at this from different angles. I get that there's this code where you shouldn't date an ex of a friend or family member, but considering Chloe and Darren was only seeing each other for a month and she dumped him, it's fair game considering Chloe never said Darren ever hurt her or cheated on her. it probably isn't a "child transaction" because Darren as a biological parent is qualified as a caretaker for the Connor kid in the first place. So the contract could have been worded like an out-of-court settlement for a child custody case, as in "i won't challenge you in a case for full custody if you agree to pay me 100 grand". It probably is legal and enforcable, there are surprisingly many deals that can be held up in court in the USA that wouldn't fly anywhere else in the world.

This shouldn't surprise people in a lot of courts when it comes to custody its all about pay to play. If you want to see your children. The courts or person who has primary custody usually request payment in order for the other parent to see thier children. Heck some women have multiple children with different last names and use thise children as cash cows to fund thier lifestyle.

People have a right to privacy, they do not have a right to hide inconvenient truths that are rightfully a part of other people's lives. We see a lot of adopted children who hate their parents for lying about the adoption, and a lot of parents who are scared to sell about adoption... the truth isn't scary, it's not being in control of someone's reaction to the truth that freaks us out. Even so, we do NOT have the right to deny people information that directly pertains to them. We need to have the fortitude to work through the rough bits, and love through them too. At least, in my opinion, it should be so.
As far as I know, that is selling your child under this , it's illegal. Yes, there are certain times money is in it as in adopting a child and helping with expenses,etc. but not " hey, you can have my kid or/ you can take custody for x amount". The reason is what you said she calls the shots in her marriage, but with Darren she couldn't call the shot's. She said she only dated him for about a month, she didn't tell him because she felt like he didn't have ambition of the money side.
I've always had a strained and distant relationship with my brother. We see each other on a >4 year basis. That suits me fine. And since it is inevitably me doing the visiting, I can leave whenever it gets too much.

Taking into consideration Darren wasn't even told he was Connor's father & that OP's sister had financial support raising Connor the whole time, Darren might not have even been required for back payments. Even so, the ex-husband would most likely have been ruled to get the $ had any been required. Even had Darren been required to pay, lawyer fees plus back pay could've even come out to less than the 100 grand anyways. Only issue is that OP's sister would likely have used that time to poison Connor against Darren & OP out of pure resentment. Unless Darren got full custody, the sister would've tried it anyway. I still say they should've lawyered up though. Connor would've needed counseling after everything no matter what & the savings could've covered that cost instead of needing to come up with the $ on top of everything else. Ugh, I have 1st hand experience about kids getting dragged into the middle of parents fighting. Anyone who claims to love their children yet still does that, makes me question the true sincerity of their "love". The courts required us to both take a parenting class b4 custody ruling & that one point was the #1 thing they drilled into us over everything else during it. My ex completely ignored it though & I was forced to helplessly watch my kids suffer from my ex's disregard for the pain he inflicted on them. My kids' relationship with him now that they r older is strained bc of it which does make me feel a bit vindicated for all his lies. Even so, I'd trade this feeling of satisfaction in a heartbeat if it meant I could've prevented him from doing it in the first place. In fact, a certificate of live birth should be only that, proof that the mother birthed a live baby and only after paterntity is determined should a separate certificate be made. I feel like Chloe is that kind of person that wants only herself to be happy, and hopes that all her ex's are miserable. Plus she has very little sisterly love for her sister, and what she did at the beginning before OP found her match kind of makes the "girl code" a moot point.

I find it interesting that Connor was so quick to start calling them mom and dad. As for the money I would have taped (if not legal then there would be a paper trail)the conversations about the money transactions and taken her to court for custody. This was an interesting story. So, I'm going to look at this from different angles. I get that there's this code where you shouldn't date an ex of a friend or family member, but considering Chloe and Darren was only seeing each other for a month and she dumped him, it's fair game considering Chloe never said Darren ever hurt her or cheated on her. Chloe was despicable the whole time, trying to dictate who OP can date or not date, cheated on her husband and lied about the paternity of the eldest, and once it came into the light, her marriage is over and she has the nerve to blame OP rather than act like a damn adult and take accountability of her actions? it probably isn't a "child transaction" because Darren as a biological parent is qualified as a caretaker for the Connor kid in the first place. So the contract could have been worded like an out-of-court settlement for a child custody case, as in "i won't challenge you in a case for full custody if you agree to pay me 100 grand". It probably is legal and enforcable, there are surprisingly many deals that can be held up in court in the USA that wouldn't fly anywhere else in the world.

The courts or person who has primary custody usually request payment in order for the other parent to see thier children. People have a right to privacy, they do not have a right to hide inconvenient truths that are rightfully a part of other people's lives. We see a lot of adopted children who hate their parents for lying about the adoption, and a lot of parents who are scared to sell about adoption... the truth isn't scary, it's not being in control of someone's reaction to the truth that freaks us out. Even so, we do NOT have the right to deny people information that directly pertains to them.

As far as I know, that is selling your child under this , it's illegal. Yes, there are certain times money is in it as in adopting a child and helping with expenses,etc. but not " hey, you can have my kid or/ you can take custody for x amount". I would have to say that OP more than likely paid for the wedding in the end for his parents sake. His sister would have cut them out and continued to hurt and harass them, going further and further until they did what she wanted. And yes, OP was right in the fact that they were well aware at this point that they created her delusional idealism, but they couldn’t fix it at that point and he didn’t want them to hurt. The thing with Grandiose Narcissists, it’s completely out of their depth to think of anyone but themselves. OP paid so his parents wouldn’t be left out, then realized after his Fiancée was humiliated, that his sister would never stop and might have taken it into his own hands…had his mother not made the announcement in the end. Lawyer up & haul her a$$ to court! The sister has been toxic & is now being unrealistic. Taking into consideration Darren wasn't even told he was Connor's father & that OP's sister had financial support raising Connor the whole time, Darren might not have even been required for back payments. Even so, the ex-husband would most likely have been ruled to get the $ had any been required.
Even had Darren been required to pay, lawyer fees plus back pay could've even come out to less than the 100 grand anyways.
Only issue is that OP's sister would likely have used that time to poison Connor against Darren & OP out of pure resentment. Unless Darren got full custody, the sister would've tried it anyway.
I still say they should've lawyered up though. Connor would've needed counseling after everything no matter what & the savings could've covered that cost instead of needing to come up with the $ on top of everything else.
Ugh, I have 1st hand experience about kids getting dragged into the middle of parents fighting. Anyone who claims to love their children yet still does that, makes me question the true sincerity of their "love". The courts required us to both take a parenting class b4 custody ruling & that one point was the #1 thing they drilled into us over everything else during it. My ex completely ignored it though & I was forced to helplessly watch my kids suffer from my ex's disregard for the pain he inflicted on them.
My kids' relationship with him now that they r older is strained bc of it which does make me feel a bit vindicated for all his lies.
Even so, I'd trade this feeling of satisfaction in a heartbeat if it meant I could've prevented him from doing it in the first place. The pain of helplessly watching ur kids suffer, knowing u can't do anything about it; is one of the most excruciating things parents r forced to endure. No matter how old ur "kids" get, the helpless feeling never lessens. Whether it be physical or emotional, if I could take any hurt my kids go through onto myself instead, I'd willingly accept it without hesitation. I feel any parent that truly loves their child feels the same.
Unfortunately, kids need to experience both the good & the bad in life to help them become an empathetic person who cares about others too. It still hurts regardless knowing that fact.

Wow. This is why people are so keen on the idea of mandatory paternity tests before birth certificates can be signed with a father. In fact, a certificate of live birth should be only that, proof that the mother birthed a live baby and only after paterntity is determined should a separate certificate be made. I dont think its right to just name any Tom, Dick, or Harry as a kids father without knowing for sure.
