I ditched Facebook and will never get it back, it's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Stopped coloring my hair, letting my natural grey locks shine, I absolutely love it too!!
SO true! Especially when you consider what someone’s opinions are based on - their background, their personal experiences, filters, how they were raised, their personal choices, personal preferences, their own perceived limits, what works best for them, what they prefer, etc. NONE of that has anything to do with me! 🙂They are simply expressing how THEY see the world. And we all get to have our own unique individual expressions. 🙂🙏🏼
@@mayasurentu OMG. Maya, yes indeed the knife moved. What is with that? I was laying on the couch watching Fairyland Cottage, dozing off while petting my dog. Then I started reading the comments and came across your comment. So I tuned back in and there it was. OMG. I still cannot believe ut. Interesting, very interesting! What do you think it is??? Spirits!
I have been plagued for years with unsettling dreams. I made a conscious decision approximately 3 months ago to delete all my news feeds and spend my viewing time on things that made me happy, educated me or sparked new creative ideas. I have not had one bad dream since the day I unplugged. Coincidence? I think not.
Habits I've been focusing on this year have been praying the Rosary daily, watching less of the news, being positive even if I don't feel like it, being quiet more often, waking up at 4 AM, going to bed at 8:30 PM, watching inspirational things (such as your vlogs ) on TH-cam, living more simply, and trying to be content with what I have, and the most important has been to trust God more because He knows what is best for me. Happy 2021 to all...
I haven’t watched the news in over two years at the same time I got rid of sky and very rarely watch the telly I go for days without putting it on. I don’t have a radio I have found a love for silence and reading. I have for a while now been meditating and it’s working. The people that have brought me down in the passed I have cut out my life and I’m happier for it. I haven’t posted on or looked at Facebook in months and it’s been wonderful I have so much more time in my day to pursue other things, things that make me happy. Thank you for a wonderful video
I wish I could say that I was carrying this habit over into the new year but I haven't quite gotten there yet. But I have cut down on the amount of news that I watch on television and on social media. My goal is to eventually make it a very minimal part of my life. There's only certain channels that I plan on watching such as the PBS NewsHour or NPR news which I listen to over the radio. I don't plan on getting involved in anything political for this upcoming year. I also don't plan on having any negative discussions or dealing with negative people or going into places with negative vibes. I am trying to truly adopt the hygge way of living. Little by little I'm going to get there.
8 years news-free for me. No TV either. TH-cam is my only social media account. I’ve turned off the ads on videos. SO much peace and spaciousness. I choose what I want to let in. 🙂🙏🏼
Agree with you about cutting out people who do us no good, we can only benefit by doing that. Yes, also to limiting watching news which gives us no peace or joy.
One of the many awesome habits I've started this year is going outside to feed the birds and critters first thing in the morning. So good to get outside and breathe the fresh air, being a human in nature, starting the day the way I'm meant to. Now all the animals expect me, and I LOVE that, total bonus!
I started this habit at the start of the pandemic lockdown in the spring, and I've kept at it, because it helps. Every night as I lay in bed, I think of three things from the day just ended that I can be grateful for. Some days it's easy, other days it forces me to look beyond the bad for anything I can be grateful for. Maybe it's just that I have a roof over my head, that my family is safe, that we had dinner. And then it strikes me.. these simple "small" things are the most important of all.
Learning to be independent of the good opinion of your own kids is a big one for me. We have just retired and are in excellent shape, body, mind and spirit, we don’t drink much, we play tennis all the time, eat healthy as we have a huge garden and are very different than most people we know so we are considered odd. But that being said we just want to do all we can to be the best we can be regardless of the good opinion of others😊
Oh I so wish however arthritis has visited my body. I am learning better food habits and want so badly to be able to garden. We can make raised beds but it’s my back, hips, knees and shoulders. Not a lot of weight to lose and am as mobile as I can be. So happy for you both.
can i ask what makes you odd compared to others? like what are others doing? my grandparents also eat good food, dont drink much (occasional beer with sauna, as sauna is a household thing with us haha), exercise and seem to be doing much of the same thing during their retirement days. i only have experience with them as my mum is still working so what do the others do that sets you apart? your way seems so normal to me so not sure what odd there is about that haha
I have my “miracle morning” routine every day ... weekdays it begins at 5 am but weekends are more relaxed. I get up, get dressed & take care of basic hygiene, make the bed, then go on a 30 minute walk/jog, complete a 15 minute block of Spanish lessons on the Duolingo app, and finally write in my journal. The early morning walk, in particular, has been so good for my health and my spirit. Every day there is something a bit different to notice and appreciate. Most days I still do not want to go on my walk (I’m lazy) but it is just a habit now, and within 3 minutes of starting I am always glad to do it. New habit I started this year that I plan to continue: watching Fairyland Cottage videos every week! They feed my spirit and make me happy. Thank you so very much for your artistry!
I haven't watched the news since 2015. I had major surgery that year and with it came terrible anxiety. I found that watching the news made that anxiety worse. Doing yoga, watching inspiring programs on tv, reading and taking long walks/hikes are what got me through that rough time. I have been incorporating those same habits since then. This year I added running and sewing to my daily routine. What works for me is being creative, getting outdoors and watching inspiring, positive videos like Fairyland Cottage! Much love from NC.
From a fellow NC resident, I’ve not owned a TV for more than a decade. I read the news but it’s not being blasted at me on a 24-hour news cycle. It’s done a lot for my serenity.
Excellent! I went through divorce and death of a child. No news, yoga, eating healthy, keeping only positive relationships and I just bought my first Juki sewing machine. We got this!
I deleted my Twitter and Facebook account and felt so much better. I also started spending 2-3 hours outside, in the morning, with my favorite cup of coffee or tea to just relax and be in nature. Because I continued to work in 2020 this helped so much with any stress I had. I also reduced my work hours to spend more time doing what I enjoy.
To add to Thu Le's black pepper suggestion, a pinch of cayenne will not only warm you up, but if great for inflammation, allergies and immunity. And plays well with all the aforementioned spices as well.
It's funny I should be reading this comment about a wreck. I just shared this same piece of information with my cousin today. She made a comment that turmeric didn't work for her. But I told her to make sure that she Incorporated black pepper and a little bit of fat like from coconut oil. She drinks smoothies and I told her this would be a perfect way to get all of what she needs.
OMG! I didn't realize my translation was so messed up. I was trying to say that I had just shared this piece of information with my cousin today about turmeric. Not about a wreck! But the following information Remains the Same. I told her she needed to add a little black pepper and a little bit of fat such as coconut oil or even hemp seed oil to her smoothies. Those two things are necessary in order to get the nutrients and health benefits out of turmeric.
@@denisebrock3154 according to Chinese meficine, turmeric, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, onion, garlic, cayenne chicken, turkey cause heat in the body and this creates anxiety, fear, dizziness overthinking, insomnia. Yes, it depends on the constitution of the person. If the person is cold all the time, then these foods are good for him or her. But most of us, because of the stress of life, of menopause, are tense , irritable ,hot inside the body and this dellete the yin, the cooling energy in the body. In order to feel good and relax, We need to eat cooling foods like banana ,cucumber, cilantro, raw salad, drink lot of cool water etc... and take cooling herbs like burdock. Cornsilk, nettle ( warm herb but has cooling effect), echinacea etc... I feel nothing taking turmeric. I feel good eating cooling food. It is why your cousin feel nothing when she takes turmeric.
You're right! I just posted what I put in my morning concoction and forgot to mention the black pepper which activates the turmeric. It's interesting how natural foods often have partners-in-crime!
I started a morning routine where I grab my hot drink and head outside with my journal. I journal first, then I write my gratitudes, my intentions and my affirmations. This really sets the tone of the day and helps me to stick to some things like eating mindfully or not responding emotionally.
This channel is like a cup of soothing tea for my soul 🍵🍃 So, in 2020 I have learned to never skip my cup of tea 😌 because my mental health is way more important than any friendship or relationship! ❤️
other long term changes: use less heat/ac and use more blankets/sweaters and/or less clothing depending on seasonal needs (no central heat/ac usage); own only a washer and not a clothes dryer; go small on appliances (get rid of the built ins: dishwasher/garbage disposal/oven--use only movable appliances: toaster oven, microwave, moveable electric stove burners, air fryer; use less paper (more cloth), foil, wax paper, cling wrap. paper/plastic products: if I receive these items from store or restaurant/fast food, then reuse all (including cups, plasticware utensils, bags/wrappers, paper napkins) at least one more time (after rinsing/shaking out crumbs) and preferably reuse many times before discarding (I understand that sometimes these items are too dirty and must be thrown away--but often, they are like new and are just discarded for no good reason--I try to keep and reuse all that I am able); if given plastic containers or condiment packages--use them again many times and use all of them (do not just discard them--wash them and reuse). If I make myself reuse all of this, it becomes apparent quickly just how much of it I am using and how quickly it builds up and encourages me to be more mindful of usage (whereas, if I keep throwing everything out, then out of site, out of mind and I do not know how many resources I am using--for one person this is not good--but for an entire generation, it is disasterous--just how much we are using and throwing away)...dts
I also took on a few new habits this year....I found myself mentally, emotionally and physically depleated with everything going on in our world today... I found how I start my day and feed my belly, mind and soul set the pace for my entire day... So I started 1. Not waking up to news and social media, rather morning tea, stretches and journaling instead. 2. Meditation has been something new I started this year and love it....taking 15-30 minutes daily to breathe, regroup fuel my spirit. 3. Drink more water, I started drinking much more water bought 2 specific glass containers and fill them at night before bed. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin, my diet and my energy. The last thing for me was limiting my news to really just keeping aware... And practicing faith that it's not in my hands ....and to stay present in my day. Thank you for being such an inspiration to this girl up in snowy Ontario Canada.
Mindfulness has become a daily practise. I found a service that delivers vegetables, we are in total lockdown. While alone, I enjoy, simple crafts, a good book, a cup of tea, and Fairyland Cottage. A short drive and a nice walk among the trees.
In 2020 I went outside for a walk for almost every day, on an average 6 times a week. Coming from 30 minutes/once a week this was a huge improvement in both my physical and mental health so I will be doing this in 2021 as well.
I started walking every evening since March, for an hour. My mental health has improved & I lost quite some weight. I've also started keeping a gratitude journal where I thank the day every single morning, for giving me the chance to do what I want & can, & every night before going to bed I'm writing 3 things that happened that day that I'm grateful for. This has helped me cope with the devastations around. I've cut down totally on social media, was never a News person, & I've become much more aware of my finances. Overall, I've had my little achievements amidst all this chaos. To lovely Niamh & all the viewers I wish a Merry Christmas & lots of positive energy for the coming times. We're a great tribe. 💛💛💛
Hello! I have started a study and journal time after breakfast....I never kept a journal before but i find it empties my worries....right unto it. The difference in my life is actually surprisingly amazing.
Personally, I think stopping caring over the news a privelege. You don't have to watch 24/7 on your social media or watch tv news everyday but I find important to make time to understand what's happenning in the community, country and globe. Find good journals or podcast that doesnt riot your mental health. If we don't keep up with what is happenning it allows to politicans and big comporations to make things even worse that they are today.
Absolutely agree. In fact, I had Civics in school, and actually ended up working in local government for ten years, both were such valuable experiences. One of my goals for 2021 is to reduce my comments on social media about news articles I feel strongly about, and I stead writing my representatives, reaching out to them, and changing my habits, for example reducing plastic use, calling companies that use non recycled packaging, not buying those brands, speaking with supermarket managers, encouraging them to stock products that have recyclable containers. This is just an example. I believe the tuning out completely from news just gives dangerous openings to “leaders” who are self interested, and unfortunately that has happened in my country.
definitely! theres no need to watch news all the time and watch them to the point of anxiety rising, but everyone should be aware what happens in the world, and news are the way to that. maybe try news paper if tv sounds like too much. but if you feel like you can leave your news completely and not watch, check your priviledge
So much agree. The deal is to limit and try to have an objective information, by allowing news from different perspectives, and if possible, in different languages; I do listen to a variety of news in 3 different languages coming from different parts of the world; believe me, it is quite instructive and you quickly learn what to chose to have an objective overview (and it is definitely not CNN...)
In my humble opinion, if I want to keep up with what’s happening in the world, watching hours of news coverage may not be the best way. They tend to be extremely slanted towards fear narratives and do not promote courage or hope. It’s not avoiding reality to limit my news intake, rather it would be avoiding reality to consume much of it - they don’t propound things like courage, hope, resourcefulness, gratitude, which are more a part of reality than temporary challenges. Much love to you all, brighter days are ahead ❤️
@@Therese100109 you dont need to watch hours of news coverage to keep up with the world? i 'watch' 15 mins of news a day when getting ready and maybe scroll down a news page and im up to date with many things. cmon now, it doesnt take hours.
Our own advice and our intuition is important. Earlier I listened only to other people and somewhere my decisions were shaped by their opinions. Slow and slowly I am getting rid of this habit. Gradually I have realised that making my own decisions is lending me a sense of freedom. Also, the quality of my life has been improving because my decisions are wiser than theirs. 💖
Really got stuck in your comment because I felt it so relatable Vidushi.I have been trying to make my own decisions and it requires a bit of courage to live an authentic life but it is so much worth it :)
I have found that regular intentional, slow and sense oriented time in Nature has become the most important habit for me this year. These heartful wanders have gifted me with a sense of peace and calm and joy and belonging. It has made such a difference that I have enrolled in guide training to become a nature and forest therapy guide.
Keeping up with the news is an exercise in compassion for me. I've always been an empathic and compassionate person, but now, with the overwhelming degree of trauma and pain in the world, my compassion is evolving into deeper depths. The peace which is maintained by eliminating stressful stimuli is not spiritual peace. True peace is maintained when all stressors are in full expression. Listening to the news in this era of such horror, is a spiritual exercise for me, teaching me more agonized compassion for the world, and providing me the means, in my sheltered life in the woods, to maintain spiritual peace in the midst of the world's staggering suffering.
I used to think that way, too, but I came to the conclusion that my knowing of a tragedy on the other side of our planet did nothing to alleviate that person's suffering. It did nothing to bring back life to those killed or feed the ones going hungry. I stopped reading past headlines. My contribution to compassion now is to sponsor individual children around the world so that they may have a better life through organization such as Children International. Agonizing over mass suffering does no good to anybody.
@@TanjaHermann You're right, that feeling grief for millions does no good to anyone....except one's own self. The expansion of the human heart, growth in consciousness, and intensification of empathic powers is what this life is all about.
Got rid of my TV over 10 yrs ago. Have never been on social media. Keep my phone on silent, and leave it home always when I'm out ( in the old days we didn't have them anyway, lol) I'm from the answering machine era, lol. NO NEWS AT ALL! No Hollywood type gossip. I avoid all moaner, Debbie/Doogie downers. I only watch documentaries of history , spirituality, or positive nature, on YT I read, and or listen to audio books.. I shut down anyone that complains, blames, criticizes or the like, and I listen to my heart to guide me to do the right thing as much as possible. I am the best friend I could ask for, just the way I am. I cook my own food, and keep it simple. I love early mornings, and early bedtimes. (I rise naturally at 4am and go to sleep naturally at 8pm) I stay in my own natural rhythms, and take it easy on myself all day long. When I have an OFF day, I tell myself its a contrast day, simply there to remind me, how well I am doing on "regular " days. I keep the lights low, sleep in a room with an cracked open window, and walk everyday. I have conversations with spirit, and get all my answers from there. Uncomplicated is my motto. Getting rid of the TV was the best thing I have ever done....that and the microwave, lol. Be at peace everyone, and have a beautiful Christmas and fresh New Year!
As an agriculture student, i would encourage you to cut your plants/leafs or anything that needs cutting with a sharp (clean!) knif or scissors (instead of ripping the leaf) this reduces the change of diseases. Because when you cut a part of a plant, it is an open womb and an excellent way to introduce bacterias in the plant:) just a little tip! (im french, did my best to explain it haha)
This sounds so much like me..I have been so intentional about everything I do and commit to lately. Choosing to live simply, doing more of creative work,Journaling, walking around the neighborhood with my kids, reading, I haven't watched the news in 2years and last year I started gardening. Its such a beautiful fulfilling experience
i took a break from my job couple of years ago ....now i dont intend to go back....slow living, doing things in moderation, housewifing is new normal for me...i am loving it n would continue nxt year. stayin at home n doing household chores n vegetable gardening, no maid has made me n my family financially n physically independent. .
I think if there is one positive spin-off to this pandemic... it has forced me to have look at my habits and my daily living, and to be conscious of how these things affect my mental and physical health, and also my relationships with others. “Choice” enables us to shape who we are and how we conduct ourself, and habits really are the simplest form of choice. Most importantly “choice” allows us to become a better version of ourselves. PS - In 2020 I made the choice to get up at 4:00 each day. It was difficult at first, and people think I’m nuts... but it is the best choice I’ve made in years and it is now a habit for life. Thank-you for this video, I loved it.
I overcame my writer's block this year...now I work on one creative task every day. 2020 has taught me to take one day at a time. Waking up at 4 am must be challenging initially. That's an amazing habit!
I also stopped watching the news-about five years ago. When the pandemic hit I found myself checking every day-on TH-cam as I also haven’t had tv for over a year-and it stressed me soooo much that I only check once a week or so now. The truth is much of what is reported is slanted or downright incorrect! I find as well that if I need to know something it will filter through to me. Most of what goes on I cannot do anything about and it makes me feel helpless and anxious. It is all in God’s hands so I am secure in this world. Be anxious for nothing are His instructions. Merry Christmas Niamh. May the New Year bring you many blessings .💕
Not exactly a habit but I have gone vegan and I am never going back. I'm also looking at what I putting into my mind in the way of social media and youtube videos. Trying to remember to take a break from the negative and focusing on the positive. Especially in the morning or right before bed at night.
I count my blessings and express my gratitude for everything and everyone in my life. I quit facebook and twitter, now only using youtube and I gave up netflix. I eat more fruit and vegetables and I'm continuing my habit established in Aug. last year of walking between 5 and 6 miles a day.
I too have dropped the news nearly entirely. The toxic shock emotional language I can’t have going 8n me as I get through COVID. You’re a new habit. Your calming, authentic and healthy videos are soothing to me and I thank you for them.
1 Cut the "cable cord" since pandemic shutdown started I stopped watching TV altogether, Now It is TH-cam inspiration 2 Got off social media (Facebook) totally. 3 Pilates every morning 4 Wear my contact lenses daily , It literally grounds me and makes me more aware (I used to just do without ) 5 Gave up starches, white flour and white sugar 6 Put my makeup on every morning 7 Removed myself from a toxic friendship 8 started my flower gardening habit again More healthy habits to come in 2021, I feel so much better this year, pandemic or not!!!! Thanks for the inspo
Hi! I'm keeping daily morning meditation and gratitude journaling, painting, walking in nature, photography, reading two books per month and one extra in audio (one for learning something new, one for enjoyment and one classic) , eating healthy and exercising. Thanks to all of them my mental health has improved a lot. And one last habit I'm starting to do since last month, solving problems "as soon as possible" (if and when possible of course) because the longer I left them the worst they start becoming in my mind and my anxiety gets out of control... I missed the cat, hope she's ok, and visits soon! Thanks for this calming and nice video and as always for the inspiration. Happy Christmas! ❤️🎄
Some habits that I have added this year that I like are: Spending more time outside (if I want to get together with a friend think about going for a walk instead of chatting inside), daily exercise, thoughtfully eating less - eating just to satisfy hunger not just because of enjoyment, writing down my goals for each week and making goals in different areas of my life (Spiritual, relationships, business, home for example).
40 years ago, I was told by several doctors I was too sick to help. I stopped watching the news and started looking at art and nature books before bed. Needless to say, I am still here and relatively healthy at 70-years-old. I am going to try some of your habits; my favorite one is whenever possible to eat breakfast outside in the garden. Unfortunately, it's so relaxing I don't want to leave.
Wow lovely to read your story. Well done you. I also love your habit of eating outside. They say it helps with digestion and good digestion is key for health!
Loved the video and reading the comments. I'm part of a yoga community in the tiny hamlet I live in and I join practice every day and teach once a week. We miss being together but we have really come together during the pandemic. I light a candle and put on some beautiful music and try to make it as much a beautiful ritual at home as it is in the studio. You're all welcome to join us. Stay healthy and peaceful!
Thank you so much Niamh for sharing another rich and thought provoking video ! Habits that I started in 2020: 1. Stopped watching news. 2. Enjoying praying more everyday, remembering and feeling more connected to God. 3. Started decluttering. 4. Started being kinder, fairer, more patient and forgiving to everyone I come across regardless of how they treat me. 5. Preparing more nutritious meals and avoid sugar as much as possible. 6. Trying to be kinder to myself and trying to be there to support myself. 7. Being more grateful for everything I am and everything I have- tangible and intangible. 8. Trying to use less plastic. 9. Starting to learn how to enjoy studying. 10. Embracing all the challenges (break up, living alone in lockdown, rejections with jobs) and making the best of this time to build a nourishing relationship with myself and everything around me. 11. Choosing to watch people on TH-cam who are less consumeristic, more creative, caring and resilient. Making the best of Tier 4 Lockdown starting today. Lots and lots of love from London! xxx
I am having a kale salad today ❤️ I love all your self care tips, especially about being authentic to yourself. I’ll have to try your turmeric drink recipe, sounds so cozy 😍 my new habit this year is feeding the birds, it gives me a lot of peace to watch them ❤️❤️❤️🐦
I have become dedicated to feeding the birds this year and I've joined a local bird watching/photographing group on facebook which has helped me learn to identify local birds - watching the birds has become a real joy,
We haven't had a television connected to cable over 10 years. We used to rent DVDs to watch movies, etcetera. With the internet, I watch a lot of wonderful programs on my Public Broadcasting Service channel. In fact, I just finished watching season 1 of the new version of "All Creatures Great and Small." I disconnected from the news also, almost 20 years ago. What a liberating experience. When I tell friends, they are aghast and wonder how I find out about current events. Oh, I seem to find out! And I am a voracious reader, since childhood. Thank you for being there so that I can discover you today, when I am 69 years old and STILL learning. I bid you peace.
Christmas will be over when we see you next Niamh, so I would like to take this moment to thank you for all of your tips and calming words throughout 2020 and wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and all the good health and happiness for 2021.
Yes me too I’d like to say thanku & happy Christmas glad I found ur channel this yr been soothing and comforting it pleases my son to hear ur vids ur lovely vibe and accent he knows it’s good necessary for me rather than me watching stressing things too much 💚
I would like to focus on two most important habits I have developed in 2020. Firstly, I have stopped judging people by their apparent appearance, and instead, I have started respecting their individuality! Secondly, I have started expressing my gratitude to the people, animals and the nature around me who/which have helped me in different facets of my life. An yes, I am thankful to you too, for leading many people like me to the path of positivity! Love for you, all the way from India!❤️
I stopped watching the news several years ago, and I don't miss it. I still see and hear about major news from friends or online. But it doesn't create as much anxiety or drain energy. Ty for sharing your positive habits.
Movement just helps me to get out of my head whether it's cardio, weights or the best thing which is just dancing to my favourite songs. Meditation every morning is something I do now. 2020 was a lot to deal with and this just soothed the day ahead.
I think a lot of us stopped watching the news this year!😋 I’ve also started tracking my eating habits to help me get healthy, & watching uplifting TH-cam videos like yours😊❤️
I have been told that for curcumin to be absorbed it needs some kind of fat, piperine (contained in black pepper). Green tea as well can help the absorption. So in order to combine these ingredients I like to spread some ghee butter on a slice of bread, a little honey and I spray it with turmeric powder. Yummy😋! Then I have a lovely cup of green tea. Sometimes I have breakfast with that or a snack in the afternoon. Merry Christmas to all 🎅
This is how people in my area do it: Add a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a pinch or two of pepper into a glass of milk, warm preferably. Our music teacher at school told us this is excellent for the singing voice.
Going for a walk outside for at least 30 minutes every morning, no matter the weather, and making sure at least 50% of my plate is non-starchy vegetables at every lunch and dinner. Never felt better. Thank you for your beautiful videos. Happy new year!
Great video x I started some new habits about October time. I was really struggling mentally so decided to make some changes to what I could....I changed my diet to be more plant based, drinking less caffeine and incorporating exercise and yoga into my day. I have now started meditation. All this has helped so much that I can't see myself stopping them in 2021. Have a lovely festive time x
I started eating completely plant-based five years ago and I can tell a huge difference in my overall energy and health. I eat more vegetables and therefore get more vitamins and minerals than ever before.
Your videos are not only healing but also informative. My weakness is the past has been making important decisions in my life based on other people's opinion . am asking for Grace to drop that completely in the new year .
Another lovely video! I've been walking for 30 minutes or so on my lunch breaks during the work week. It's been very good for my mental and physical health. I started walking consistently towards the end of 2019 and am so pleased that I've done this for myself and kept up with it. It feels so natural now and actually a high priority. 😊🌻
I wouldn't say I'm super consistent in my habits, they come and go, but journaling (writing along with drawing and collage), having a bullet journal to stay organized, yoga / stretching, gardening and having a real skin care routine really did me good in 2020 and I will keep going in 2021. But what truly changed for me this years (only since 2 months but it's still the biggest thing I did for myself) was to do a massive social media cleaning. I realized how much it was creating needs for items I didn't need at all, and made me purchase almost compulsively. I dropped all influencers and accounts of the "thrift with me" and "shop with me" kind, and anyone who had a sponsor and something to sell on every one of their post or video. I turned to channels like yours and it changed my life, and my bank account!
I read a lot a whole lot ,there's so much knowledge you get from books at any age any moment .Knowlege is power.. my sister gave me a new journey for my birthday last fall.so many depend on social media for every thing .good points and some bad,but when you let it consume you life every day, that's not living, a wholesome life, the journal helps to put your inner most thoughts on paper, your beliefs ,your spiritual self or religious self,or just getting in tune with the real you, there know good or bad ,right or wrong ,it yourself, we are to much of. a judgemental society. I been into hyygge for years, but didn't know what it was until I started on this Channel.
I love your list of habits you are going to keep from 2020! One thing I'm going to keep from this lockdown time is a breathwork practice everyday. I started it (free, easy, and oh-so calming) to deal with the anxiety of the times, and it has made a HUGE difference.
I definitely want to incorporate the no social media weekend have it for 2021. I also want to be more prepared for things in 2021. Preparations for meals, preparations for my house, preparations for my body mind and soul, just an overall preparation so that I am constantly on top of things. Merry Christmas to you and thank you for the inspiration you give 🎄 us.
I had to turn off all News on my phone. It just became too much. I also took off the neighborhood app on my phone as well. People constantly complaining about anything and everything. I have never had Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or tic tok. I don't desire any of it. There are too many things one can do than be chained to technology. There is so much world to explore, praising God reading the bible, prayer, general reading, cooking, gardening, walking, finding your creative side and create! helping others. This and much more will I continue to do for the rest of my life! Greetings. Blessings and much love. May peace and calm surround you my dear.
I must check some of those out, thank you for sharing. Some positive things I've changed this year and some I've done for a long time: stop watching/reading the news, stopped going on facebook, I have a daily smoothie (for those fruit & veggies I wouldn't eat otherwise), I shop less and buy secondhand when possible, I cut my own hair, I walk whenever I'm on the phone (even if it's looping around the kitchen island and through the living room over again). Making time to be creative everyday has been the best thing I've done for my mental health. Have a Happy New Year!
Deactivating Facebook, not reading news has been so much better for my mind, saying no to people for that peace of mind as being stuck in homeschooling for all of us is hard and connecting with nature again, sitting out with the moon stars and breathing in fresh air. Love this channel so inspiringx
I started growing sprouts in jars -- radish, broccoli, bean -- we love eating them and the nutritional value is even higher than the mature veggies. I'm going on my second year of Pilates and I feel good in body and mind. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.
I haven't watched the news in years! I'm so happy to hear you've stopped doing it too 😇🙏 I want to share this video, mostly for the reason that I'd like to see others doing it as well ❤️🙏
I always appreciate the habits you share. I used to do the Tibetan Rites and now I'm inspired to bring them back into my daily life. A mental habit I've incorporated this year is catching any thoughts that do not serve me. I have made up a little song that I sing to myself (or aloud, depending) and it shifts me into more positive thoughts. I am enjoying your e-book - another habit - reading more vs. being on the computer. It really does make a difference to my mood. It's a process.
I stopped all my involvement in clubs and groups because of COVID. I found I had so much time. I have only participated in those that are online and I found that most of the activities and people I have not missed. I will not return to being so busy. During the first lockdown I was at home and I spent the time growing our food. I baked everything I could. I preserved a lot of what I grew. I started making my own bread. I became more creative sewing and knitting more. I started practicing the piano again and enjoying playing just for my own benefit. I had a health scare so I have cut out refined sugar and animal fats from my diet and as a consequence I am loosing weight. When I went back to work I started arriving earlier partly due to the lack of traffic and as a result I go for a walk in the surrounding parkland and watch the sun rise every morning. I watch les television. I just feel the need to escape as much as possible from the society around me, I can no longer handle the drive to buy stuff and do stuff I don't enjoy. I love this channel and log on every Sunday when I am stressed by other people's worried I come here to remember the important things in life. Thank you for all that you give to us. Happy Christmas or Yule
Loved your habits ♥️One habit I incorporated in 2020, and plan to continue with, is daily walking. I have lost 25 lbs and have maintained the weight off because of this healthy habit♥️
I've been listening to more audiobooks this year which brought me over my year goal for books read. I've also started do yoga once a week, I know it's not much but it's something and I'm hoping to up that number next year
Thank you so much for sharing your habits. I agree that kale and turmeric tea are so beneficial. I’m excited to try your recipe. Here are some habits I have learned over many years (as I am old) that have proved to me to be extremely valuable. Early morning time with God and reading my Bible. The bible speaks truth in a world that seems so confused and chaotic. I’ve been having this morning time with God for over twenty years and it has changed me greatly in a positive way as a person. Plus I have gotten to know the Creator of this world. Drinking lemon warm water in the morning and drinking water in between meals. This may sound like a no brainer, but honestly I have had to work hard on this as I forget to drink water which brings me fatigue. Forgiving others who have hurt me. This has been an incredibly hard lesson and yet has provided me great freedom. It took me a long time to really understand what forgiveness is. I appreciate your videos. I look at the beautiful country side where you live and wish I could visit. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas.
Something am practicing right now is reading a book before bed and close all devices one hour before sleeping and it really helps. Also thank you so much for such good advise and calming video.
Healthy habits 💚 My habits are little bit the same. I also quit social media and the news. It's better for my mental health. I eat hole foods plantbased. I take more rest, i love to cook and bake and read a good book. My live is slowed down and that i love. Thanks for your sharing in your healthy habits, that helps a lot 💗 Have a nice sunday .
Hi there I hope you are all safe and well. In 2020 I started unconsciously to develop more kindness, tolerance and being more open to people. Whether with my relatives OR strangers (which is totally new to me ...) I definitely want to consciously cultivate that in 2021 because this is soooooo needed in the world especially right now. It took me a hard year (personal and global) to understand how a smile from the cashier could heal
I stumbled over on this channel and I couldn't be happier. Love the content, it lines up with what I'm trying to incorporate in my life. Thanks for sharing. This video was extremely calming and uplifting. Love it and looking forward to more.
I watched a couple of your videos with my four-year-old daughter as I sometimes do to help her relax before bed. After she fell asleep, I tried a slightly modified version of your turmeric tea, (1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/8 tsp ground ginger, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a sprinkle of cardamom, all heated in a pot with almond milk) and sourdough toast with coconut oil. It was all very pleasant. Thank you.
I quit smoking, shaved my head, became vegetarian and started growing my own veggies. As someone who has always possessed the 'black thumb of death', I was delighted when my plants actually grew and didn't just give up the ghost, especially as I live in a desert . Now I get a child-like joy from seeing my harvest growing. Thank you for sharing your habits with us :)
Such a beautiful share! Thank you 🙏🏻 My family and I have been starting the day by sharing what we are grateful for. I have two toddlers and as the day plays out, when we start to feel overwhelmed with feelings, we stop and “count our blessings.” It is a practice that we find calms us, brings us joy and dissipates any unrest we may have been feeling 💗
I believe these habbits are very good for one's mental health. I started following your advice of keeping things slow and Nd it's really very helpful for me. To be self sufficient Nd not caring about others opinions are the best way keep mental health positive. Thank you for these wonderful videos ❤️🙏.Bless you!
Loved all the habits in this video. One that I really want to incorporate is an earlier wake up/nature walk morning routine. I have been mostly inside with lockdown, and since I am such a homebody I can spend weeks and months without being outdoors. I almost forget how lovely it is to be out in nature. So in this new year, I want to get outside no matter the weather to enjoy nature. (Also, hot tip on turmeric: it is fat-soluble so for best absorption oil is essential! A dash of black pepper and a teaspoon of any neutral oil, I've used coconut and grapeseed in the past will help your body get the most of what it has to offer :)
I like the idea of keeping something from this year to have a more positive look on 2020. I am taking into 2021 the fact that (mental) health is more important than most things in life and that my worth isn’t tied to my achievements. Also took up gardening again and I will continue it next spring.
Self Care will be my No. 1 priority in 2021. I will pursue a lifestyle that supports my physical and mental well being because it's true what they say..."you can't serve from an empty cup".
Some habits I implement this years was listening to one audio book per month (end up listening to about 20), drinking more water and still struggle, no TV after 9pm, meditate 3 days per week and implement a new low waste action or challenge each month and will continue these into the future
I ditched Facebook and will never get it back, it's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself.
Stopped coloring my hair, letting my natural grey locks shine, I absolutely love it too!!
Love it
I ditched Facebook as well 7 months ago! One of the best decisions ever!
Two great decisions :) well done
Henna could be an alternative, too. I’ve been enjoying to see my hair gain strength& shining since 2 years😍😉
I have never been on facebook or instagram - it is not needed for a happy life.
I read this quote somewhere and I always try to remember it--“ Your opinion of me is none of my business “
Wow that's a good one! I'll try to keep that in mind too. Thanks for that! 💖
I love that!
Good one!
I am stealing this one!
This comment section here is very therapeutic. thank you everyone for spreading love and positivity.
I totally agree. I've learned so much from this wonderful video and the comment section! Thank you everyone!
How wonderful to empower each other with uplifting and thoughtful responses. Blessings.
Ah isn’t that so lovely to hear. I always learn so much and feel uplifted from the comment section!
@@FairylandCottage i'm sorry but is this just me or your knife just moved on its own when you put the plate?
@@mayasurentu OMG. Maya, yes indeed the knife moved. What is with that? I was laying on the couch watching Fairyland Cottage, dozing off while petting my dog. Then I started reading the comments and came across your comment. So I tuned back in and there it was. OMG. I still cannot believe ut. Interesting, very interesting! What do you think it is??? Spirits!
Was able to read 70 books this year because of the lockdown. I’ll continue doing this in 2021, aiming for at least 30.
Wow!!!
Well done. Keep up the good work.
Wow! Well done
Tell us your top five books and I’ll be sure to read them! ❤️
@@sweetteawhimsy3998 Why We Sleep, A Gentleman in Moscow, Bad Blood, The Road to Character, Enlightenment Now. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Spot on.
I wish I could do the same cause sometime I drowned in negative vibes
❤❤❤
My goodness me too
Wonderful habits. I used to pray the Rosary often, but let it go for a few years now. Thanks for inspiring me to pray the Rosary again
That’s so wonderful to hear. The feeling is amazing when you do it
I wish I could say that I was carrying this habit over into the new year but I haven't quite gotten there yet.
I sometimes do that too. When you focus on the good they really add up 🙂
I've been doing that too... The smaller and more minutiae the better as it makes me more aware of the little joys in day to day stuff.
Long walks everyday regardless of weather! Early bed time, quit Facebook, trusting the process, stop blaming others. Slowing down 💓
Learning to be independent of the good opinion of your own kids is a big one for me.
I'm right there with you. It's harder than anything I've ever done.
That’s so interesting. It’s amazing how it’s odd nowadays to live a great happy healthy life
Oh I so wish however arthritis has visited my body.
Thank you so much and best of luck to you😊
I have my “miracle morning” routine every day ... weekdays it begins at 5 am but weekends are more relaxed.
Totally found that too with the news. Delighted you love the videos
From a fellow NC resident, I’ve not owned a TV for more than a decade. I read the news but it’s not being blasted at me on a 24-hour news cycle. It’s done a lot for my serenity.
Me neither if so real news you tube people
I have ditched Facebook... just this minute, and I’m so pleased with myself 🥳.
Who thought she was going to throw her laptop in the fire 😅 Some top habits to take into the new year, will be joining you.
me:)
Yeah I thought that too!
😂 🔥
This made me laugh hard cause my mind went there too! Too funny.
Me too, at first I thought the poker was the side view of the lap top!
A pinch of black pepper will multiply the absorption of turmeric in body.
So so true more important than any friendship or relationship. We are nothing without our mental health 🌹
Me too
What tea is best?
other long term changes: use less heat/ac and use more blankets/sweaters and/or less clothing depending on seasonal needs (no central heat/ac usage); own only a washer and not a clothes dryer; go small on appliances (get rid of the built ins: dishwasher/garbage disposal/oven--use only movable appliances: toaster oven, microwave, moveable electric stove burners, air fryer; use less paper (more cloth), foil, wax paper, cling wrap. paper/plastic products: if I receive these items from store or restaurant/fast food, then reuse all (including cups, plasticware utensils, bags/wrappers, paper napkins) at least one more time (after rinsing/shaking out crumbs) and preferably reuse many times before discarding (I understand that sometimes these items are too dirty and must be thrown away--but often, they are like new and are just discarded for no good reason--I try to keep and reuse all that I am able); if given plastic containers or condiment packages--use them again many times and use all of them (do not just discard them--wash them and reuse).
Hooray! You are inspiring me to walk more
I started walking every evening since March, for an hour.
Well done you! It takes courage to change behaviours. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄🍀
Hello! I have started a study and journal time after breakfast....I never kept a journal before but i find it empties my worries....right unto it. The difference in my life is actually surprisingly amazing.
I really must try that habit.
That’s so true. We can be easily influenced by other people’s opinions when making decisions and then we forget our own advice
So happy for you Lori. I am also a certified Forest Therapy Guide in Montana!
1.Discarding one item a day 2. oil pulling and 3. dream journal. Also oiling my locks on Sundays before shampoo.
Thank you for being here, I can't tell you how much peace you give me. God bless you and your life 🌻❤
My therapist also told me to stop watching news. Helped so much with my anxiety
Wow good on you... that compassion would be shared all over the world.
Fairyland Cottage on TH-cam was a wonderful discovery this year. I plan to continue watching, in 2021!
Ah you are the kindest :-) xxx
I loved reading your message. So inspiring!

Well done you!
Wow good on you!
So true Cathy, most in the news is manipulated...
Not exactly a habit but I have gone vegan and I am never going back. I'm also looking at what I putting into my mind in the way of social media and youtube videos. Trying to remember to take a break from the negative and focusing on the positive. Especially in the morning or right before bed at night.
Wonderful habits indeed!!
Ah glad they help. Keep strong and healthy my friend xxx
Dear Niamh, thank you so much for sharing your calm energy and mentioning the 5 Tibetan rites! I didn't know about them.
Thank you for sharing your calm energy here too
Incorporating them into your daily routine is literally one of the best things you can do. :)
I am going to start doing this every day too
1 Cut the "cable cord" since pandemic shutdown started I stopped watching TV altogether, Now It is TH-cam inspiration
2 Got off social media (Facebook) totally.
3 Pilates every morning
4 Wear my contact lenses daily , It literally grounds me and makes me more aware (I used to just do without )
5 Gave up starches, white flour and white sugar
6 Put my makeup on every morning
7 Removed myself from a toxic friendship
8 started my flower gardening habit again
More healthy habits to come in 2021, I feel so much better this year, pandemic or not!!!!
Thanks for the inspo
Well done!! Sounds like a great year for you indeed!
@@FairylandCottage Thank you, looking at inspirational videos like yours is very helpful! Cheers and Happy New Year 2021
I love hearing that you've proved them wrong! Congratulations!
Habits that I started in 2020:
Lots and lots of love from London! xxx
Not worrying so much about the opinion of others is so liberating. Absolutely love all these well-being habits 👏🏾💓
I am having a kale salad today ❤️ I love all your self care tips, especially about being authentic to yourself. I’ll have to try your turmeric drink recipe, sounds so cozy 😍 my new habit this year is feeding the birds, it gives me a lot of peace to watch them ❤️❤️❤️🐦
I have become dedicated to feeding the birds this year and I've joined a local bird watching/photographing group on facebook which has helped me learn to identify local birds - watching the birds has become a real joy,
This is a little slice of heaven. Your ideas are creative, logical and wise. Thank you for being you and putting it out there for us all to share.
The #1 habit I informed in 2020: Putting MYSELF on/and at the top of my list🌼Self-Care baby!!!
Christmas will be over when we see you next Niamh, so I would like to take this moment to thank you for all of your tips and calming words throughout 2020 and wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and all the good health and happiness for 2021.
Ah thanks so much! Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for a year of support
Yes me too I’d like to say thanku & happy Christmas glad I found ur channel this yr been soothing and comforting it pleases my son to hear ur vids ur lovely vibe and accent he knows it’s good necessary for me rather than me watching stressing things too much 💚
@@FairylandCottage THANK YOU SO MUCH NIAMH!!! Sending love from the Philippines 🥰💞 Have a merry Christmas!!🎁🎄
Wonderful! Inspirational:-)
I stopped watching the news several years ago, and I don't miss it. I still see and hear about major news from friends or online. But it doesn't create as much anxiety or drain energy. Ty for sharing your positive habits.
1. Declutter
2. Listen more
These are my goals for this year
Just started to add skin brushing before I shower and have found it really helps wake up my body. You might want to give it a try.
Yes I have always wanted to try. I even have the brush!
Ah I’m glad the videos are on your uplifting list 🥰❤️
I gave up newsI and Twitter. Best things to do to stay healthy
I dropped Twitter in 2012 or 2013... never seen such a toxic social media!
Love doing the 5 Tibetan Rites...bought a farm and moving in soon. far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Merry Christmas to all 🎅
it also needs black pepper to activate the curcumin.
So interesting. I’ll ask my Ayurvedic doctor about that! Thanks for sharing
@@phyllisannbonviso6641 True, black pepper contains piperine.
@@FairylandCottage That's what I have heard, but of course an ayurvedic doctor will know know more about it.
@@annashealthyworld I have found that I have so much more energy too. It's great x
Your videos are not only healing but also informative. My weakness is the past has been making important decisions in my life based on other people's opinion . am asking for Grace to drop that completely in the new year .
We have all done that! Once we recognise we are free!
Wonderful! A simple new habit that is life changing 🌱
I was finding Facebook to be very toxic for many reasons and I finally kicked the habit, I don't even think about it anymore.
Ah that’s amazing to hear. I’m the same, decluttered accounts that weren’t serving me or selling me something in every post.
I have found preparation is key this year. It really is all about the prep.
After I stopped watching live TV, the news, quitting all social media...I am much happier.
Thanks Nadia, I loved reading your comment. Amazing what you have changed this year. Really special
love the alarm clock in the kitchen idea doing it tonight!
Loved your habits ♥️One habit I incorporated in 2020, and plan to continue with, is daily walking. I have lost 25 lbs and have maintained the weight off because of this healthy habit♥️
I've been listening to more audiobooks this year which brought me over my year goal for books read. I've also started do yoga once a week, I know it's not much but it's something and I'm hoping to up that number next year
It’s quality of quantity
You're providing substantial positive suggestions about health..It's very beneficial to me. Thank you! Love
Healthy habits 💚
My habits are little bit the same.
I also quit social media and the news.
It's better for my mental health.
I eat hole foods plantbased.
I take more rest, i love to cook and bake and read a good book.
My live is slowed down and that i love.
Thanks for your sharing in your healthy habits, that helps a lot 💗
Have a nice sunday .
Thank you.
my favorite habits of the year have been flossing at least once a day, and taking up long distance running and yoga :)
A dash of black pepper and a teaspoon of any neutral oil, I've used coconut and grapeseed in the past will help your body get the most of what it has to offer :)
being authentic with yourself is soooo Important 👍🏻
I like the idea of keeping something from this year to have a more positive look on 2020. I am taking into 2021 the fact that (mental) health is more important than most things in life and that my worth isn’t tied to my achievements. Also took up gardening again and I will continue it next spring.
I love your learnings!
