You know, you were a big part of the reason why I chose to move from a student dorm to a tiny, little cabin just north of my city in Norway. Before, I would go home, sit down and stay online the rest of the day. Now, I have to carry the firewood and the water, and use my bike / skiis a lot more. There's no WiFi so I have to plan my web-surfing in advance, as well as the shopping etc. Everything takes a little more effort, but everything is also a lot simpler. I love it! :)

Best idea in the video: "we don´t have to do it all." . We should remember that modern times dictate us an idea of work and achievement that is so wrong and can make people depressed or even physically ill. So let´s make use of one of your favourite phrases "Use what you already have" - this translates into: enjoy what you have already achieved. (I know that working life is another story but I have discovered that if you are stubborn enough a slower pace will gradually be accepted). A wise Sunday to everyone, love from Germany!

@@anashappydays Haha, that´s a nice thought!. I don´t want to oversimplify things as I know that life holds many hardships but sometimes remembering the beauty of nature and the joy of simple things such as the ones Niamh demonstrates to us can help to overcome some of our life´s shadows. Especially before one gets caught up in the daily rat race. This also goes for most "must-haves" that advertising hammers into our brains. We should regard advertising as a kind of pollution.

I have challenged myself NOT to make my long and detailed list of tomorrow’s “ to do” chores the night before but to use that time before I sleep to just quietly review my day, count my blessings, and celebrate the things I accomplished or enjoyed today. In the morning, with my tea, I decide what needs doing in the new day based on how I am feeling, the weather, and what is realistic to ask of myself. This system gives me a chance to go to sleep in gratitude instead of already weighed down by the list of what I have to do tomorrow.

I don't know if anybody else can relate to this but, I'm a highly sensitive person and the summer heat always puts me in a bad mood. The heat gets under my skin and I feel like things are crawling on me. It's never pleasant 😪 So I always look forward to the fall season when it starts to cool down some. My mood changes and I start to feel creative again. This video was so relaxing and reminded me of beautiful aspects I love about fall.

I live in a place where the seasons dont change so dramatically. I keep my bedroom windows open all night in winter for example. I think that the more you interact with nature wherever you are the more subtleties you see and appreciate. The flowers that bloom at certain times, the birds and animals that appear, the slight chill in winter and the change in the light through the year, the seasonal smells, the humidity. It's all there if we search for it and create our own little haven in our own little corner. Then we appreciate it more because its ours and we being artsy creative folk have sought it and found it. It might be different to the colder climes but it's just as legitimate and just as special. Celebrating Christmas in summer always made me feel like I was missing out, but as I grow older I really love it. The smell of rotten mangoes under the tree, the morning swim before Christmas breakfast, the smell of frangipani in the evening as you relax. It's not how its portrayed in the movies or books i read but it's my reality and I love it. Anyway, my point is dont let your environment stifle your appreciation of the more subtle changes in your neck of the woods.

I used to be like that too: Allways wanting to finish things and get everything done. It became a burden and I found myself jittering and my heart racing. I hated this feeling of not beeing able to accomplish all the tasks I had to manage as a single mom in the 90s and as a widowed mom starting 2014, (my second marriage) at the same time battling an autoimmune desease which I got in 2015. But then I started to tell myself: "There is allways enough time to do everything I need to do today." And it helped. I also turned to scripture and God`s comforting promisse, that he would restore all the time we thought was lost. And it really works in the here and now. When I am in a hurry sometimes, driving my youngest to school in the morning, and traffic is allready jamming and I think, I will be late; I now tell myself: "God is restoring my time, He will get me to school in time." And every time it works, like a miracle! It is wonderful to let oneself be comforted and guided by God/ The Devine. It takes away the stress and hectic and the demands; the feeling of "I can`t manage anymore", and it gives us all the time we need. What gets done, gets done, and what doesn`t will get done another day. This is how I manage life now, fixing up my old "Rose Cottage", writing my books, my poetry and working/designing in my little textile studio "Wilhelmine-Wiesenkraut", taking care of my children and also my health - Healing, nurturing with good plant foods, herbs and teas; meditating, practicing Aikido and consciously manifesting by using imagination, making sure I am in good energy, good feeling, by doing the things I love often.
I also like to get my bed ready for sleep in the evening and I also like to read a few pages before falling asleep. I am currently reading "The Sermon on the Mount" by Emmet Fox, and I also got all the books of the series: The Children of Green Knowe", by Lucy M. Boston, a classic in children`s literature, but also very great for romantic grown ups, lol.
BBC broadcasted the first of the books as a 4-parter. You can watch it on TH-cam. It is so lovely. If you love C.S. Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia, you will definetly love The Children of Green Knowe. :-)

For years, I've been feeling a disconnect between the way I am living and the way I want to live. Finding your channel has helped me slow down and find the grace towards myself to truly examine what I want. I think I'm done living in a city. I want nature and songbirds and croaking frogs, but I always identified as a 'city girl'. So many shops and amenities, a highly desirable place to live... why would I leave? And today, I looked at a plot of land overlooking a river... I think I'm going to put in an offer. Should I succeed (fingers crossed! Please wish me luck!), I could be building a house there. When you showed that bird, eyeing up the new feeder, that hit home for me. It's new, unfamiliar and a little scary... but once you've taken that leap, you wonder why you were ever scared in the first place.

There's something magical about Ireland, the beautiful nature, those fantastic landscapes, fairytale woods and the sea and rocks. People of Ireland....I think, the most precious gem of Ireland are the Irish people...they have an excellent sense of humor, kindness, they appreciate simple things and they help you when you least expect it. I've seen it so many times and I was pleasantly astonished. And the language...ohhh...i think it is the best variation of English I've ever heard in my life...whatever it is, but the way the Irish people pronounce the sounds, makes the English language sound very melodical and cheerful (especially in Cork). Niamh, thanks a lot for your videos. They remind me of those 2 years I've spent in your wonderful country. I have so many beautiful memories of Ireland, it will be in my heart forever.

Wild swimming in the local lakes isn’t safe in the dark and the opportunities for evening swimming, my favourite form of fitness, are pretty numbered now that October is coming this week. Regarding the ritual of preparing the bed, I must say I don’t do that because my husband is in bed earlier than I am. The question reminded me of a documentary with Lucy Worsley in which she spent a night at a Tudor house and lived as one would during the 16th century. I was very taken with the idea of preparing the bed by sprinkling it with herbs in order to aid sleep.

I have always been the type to be hard on myself if I don't get everything done on my to-do list in the past. I have shifted that attitude in recent years and it has been one of the best gifts I have given to myself. It allows me to do tasks in a way that works for me, not against me, and that is so important in our outward goal/performance driven life. As always, it is a pleasure to share the time with you-be well, and looking forward to your book!

That’s what I do with my ironing. I do a little but don’t worry if I don’t finish it all, as long as my work uniform is ready and I have an outfit to lounge in at home then I’m ok with it. Love your videos, I actually get up when my alarm goes off more so when I have work. I even make my bed at 2.45 am before going to work.
My evening routine usually involves reading, getting things ready for the next day and picking up the living room before going up to bed.

The receeding light is welcome but not time to plant bulbs in southern Ontario. The colours of maple trees are just beginning and it is so beautiful here. A mum and a pumpkin at the door to my flat heralds autumn. Time to air and refresh linen and blankets for the deep cold of winter. Good books are stacked by my bedside.

So true, it's so beautiful here today in Toronto, Ontario! Hello! I was inspired to finally take those window screens down, take them outside, brush away the dust, debris and dirt, spray them with vinegar and water mixture and give them a good wipe. So gratifying and satisfying as I sit here typing with the window wide open and the warm breeze coming through my clean screens! Pumpkins and buttercup squash on my table, fireside scented soy candle next to them. Fall, I'm ready for you.

Enjoyed your evening routine. Mine, I turn all the lights off about an hour before bed, and just have candles or lanterns or small lamps lit. I don't have a TV, so on my flat screen monitor I chose a calming video and music and have it quietly playing, my mobile phone is turned to silent mode and I do not look at it until the next day. I have brushed cotton linen on my bed now which means my bed is a soft and warm place to rest and sleep. I also change into night wear, brush my hair and teeth and settle down with a herbal tea, or occasionally indulge in a hot chocolate, if I sit out under the stars before bed. Then its music off, lights, candles and lanterns extinguished and I snuggle down for the night. For those nights that my mind will not quieten I leave the gentle music playing, which eventually ends after it has lulled me to sleep. X

Two of my favorite spots on my grandmother's horse farm were a walk way to the barn lined with daffodils and the big uphill, circle driveway up to the house at the top of the hill lined with iris bulbs. Every spring both would burst into colorful blooms of deep purples and and buttery yellows. It seemed no matter how many I picked they never ran out. Her bug house was filled with the purple and yellow blooms and the gentle fragrance of spring. I hope you can finish the planting. You will be happy you did!

My evening routine is homework and studying with the kids, cooking, eating, going outside or when it's too rainy we play board games for an hour or so and then we go go the backyard during spring/summer time and on the sofa during autumn/winter time. Then i do my hobbies with the radio playing in the background.. and a little walk before by myself, then i go to bed and read a few pages and fall asleep while meditating. ❤️

The changing of seasons always gives me pause to think...slow down...and enjoy the moments. I tend to need a reset every so often and the change of seasons gives me permission I guess. I'm lucky enough to live in Canada which celebrates each of it seasons...the fall here has the clocks going back to try to gently squeeze a few more moments of sunlight before our long dark winter comes and visits us for many months to come.... I enjoy candle light and oil lamps...tea at night and a warm cozy bed with my window slightly ajar to allow the faint rustle of leaves and the almost spicy scents of the crisp fall air to fill my room. I love all the season's, they each offer a gift of their own.
