I have a 2023 R1T and a 2024 R1S, and they have removed some things from the 2024 R1S. Therefore, the refresh may be scaled down even more to cut cost. Rivian is in the cost cutting phase, so I would expect fewer features not more.
Can you list the items that were taken off the 2024 models?
@@adebiyiadesanya482 things I know of: two 12v outlets (one in the frunk and one under the main display). I also noticed that my 2024 R1S doesn’t have the yellow accent on the Rivian logos on sides of the car. The frunk now has one magnetic holder instead of two. There are definitely more… but I’m happy with the 353 miles range. I just wish they have kept the 12 v outlet under the display, could be handy!

I believe those might be the only changes / removals between years. I heard that speakers changed also between the Launch and Adventure editions, but nothing else major.
Thanks for your insight. I am picking up in a few days but was debating waiting for the refresh. Your video helped me decide to stick with my current configuration. Do u think discounts will be offered on pre-refresh models?
Excellent! I'm glad you found it helpful. There are currently some good deals on the vehicles in inventory through the Rivian store on the website and the lease deals are pretty good. As the refreshed ones start rolling out we might see some bigger deals on pre-refreshed inventory, but I wouldn't necessarily count on anything huge.

I don't believe that will come in the R1, at least not in this refresh for 2024. It might also be a unique feature to the R2/3 for some time, though I could see them standardizing the parts for cost savings across the whole lineup. I'd definitely like to get it sooner in the R1 too as it looks awesome and seems to give some additional capabilities for controls.
Would love to see a lower opening lip for the frunk. Just below the lightbar instead of right above it would be nice ... every inch lower makes it easier to load and unload. Make that happen on the R2 and R3 if it doesn't come to the R1 refresh.
That would be a somewhat significant design change for the R1. The space between the front bumper and the front trunk contains the AC condenser. In that spot, it has the best access to fresh air. It's also likely too late to make that change to R2 and possibly even R3.
Yeah I don't expect that to be a part of the refresh or any time soon because of the re-engineering it would take. I wish they'd do it too, but honestly the frunk is great enough that I use it regularly, a ton more than we ever use the ones in the Teslas we've had.
The LFP battery options are what swayed me. I’m set on waiting for that, I have one EV with an LFP battery now and one without, I would’ve bought an R1S if it wasn’t an option, but knowing that’s coming, I’ll wait.

I’d love if they eventually add a glove component to the R1 and continue making the quad motors. The heat pump would be great as well as fixing the issue with the wireless charging.
Definitely. I think adding a glovebox would be a moderate structural change so probably not happening with the refresh or soon but it does seem clear they heard the feedback and addressed it with the R2/3. Heat pump seems pretty likely based on the rumors. And I would take the wireless charging pad changes almost as a given
I’m looking at one but waiting on Rivian sales to let me know if I can get one since you can’t configure right now. Everything on their site is not what I want.
Best of luck! You might get lucky with getting matched to an existing build but if it’s something very specific unfortunately you might have to wait a bit. Try to get them on the phone if you can. It helps to be very persistent because things change often.

The refresh is mostly cost cutting and process improvements. The users wont notice anything.

Why dont you remove the aero covers? The 21s look great without them. They pop right off.
I've been afraid to with some longer drives on our schedule, but with more short distance commutes now, it might make sense. Thanks for the suggestion!

If they’re going to charge for Driver+ / Highway Assist, then Rivian needs to make it more functional. Because right now you can buy a mediocre Hyundai that can do the same thing. I’m not trolling. Fellow R1S owner here. MY is my daily driver, so its hard for me to not compare with Tesla FSD.
I agree. It seems like they've likely been working on improvements behind the scenes without releasing them for some time, so hopefully there can be a big launch when this is ready. I think expanding to additional roads is a must, but improvements overall are probably needed to sell a subscription as well.
The only reason I didn’t get a R1S was because of the price. I went with the Model Y. I really wanted the Rivian tho..
The R1S and Model Y aren't in the same category. The R2 will be the competitor to the Model Y.
I didn’t buy a Porsche because of the price. I went with a Camry instead. Lol

Hopefully the R2 will help fill the current pricing gap. I think a ton of people are in the same boat (including me for our 2nd car). It can't come soon enough!
