I’m just as surprised as everyone when they revealed the R3. All I gotta say is that they absolutely NAILED IT! Bravo Rivian!
We waiting soooooooo long for smaller EVs, at least on the horizon now
They had the GENIUS to steal the design from the WORST EVER CAR EVER BUILT the RANGE ROVER!!!!
Prototype is easy, mass production is hard.
Rivian is almost banckrupt. They need a lot of money to put R2 and R3 in the market at a decent price. I gave them max 10% to succeed this
NZ is a VERY active volcano region. Dont understand the attraction. @@stefanconstantinescu1576
@@mariuskoen1I do not understand. There are already a lot of small EV. 🚙
Rivian AGAIN showing that product design-influenced automotive designs *can* look great when the right balance is struck. They all look so good. Just the right amount of Luxury-meets-REI-meets-Apple-esque minimalism, while still keeping some sleek automotive lines intact. Not a single line looks out of place for me.
Definitely don't see apple in there but I agree with the rest.
@@freddybell8328they were making hints at connecting with Apple
@@freddybell8328 the pill-shaped headlights and light bar feel very Apple-esque to me (though not the corner angles at the ends of the light bar). The minimalism, straight lines and the subtly softened tangents of the curves feel very Apple to me, too. And just the general clear logic to everything with very little feeling decorative. There are definitely some details that don’t feel very Apple to me, too (the concave detail in the rear-end, the groove throughout the dash, the placement of the instrument panel). But they’re still close enough to feel like cousins to me.
How much do they pay you for posting this crap. I want in
@@rootypoots Honestly, if anything, the lines of the car actually look very retro/old European hatchback styled to me. Like a Renault 4 or 5 from that period perhaps. There's a new EV version of the Renault 5 coming out soon which looks kinda like this Rivian in its styling.
Rivian is consistent in putting out some of the only EVs i'd actually consider buying.
Totally agree with you
Every new EV video there's a person that says "This is the only EV I'd buy" and I'm not sure why people care.
@@freddybell8328 that's what the comment section is for. Sharing opinions nobody cares about.
This and the Renault 5
@@fortheloveofnoise9298 yep. Too bad the Renault isn't coming to the US.
This looks like a classic Renault or Lancia.
I love it!
If Renault and Volvo had a baby
It’s pretty much a 4 door modern Lada Niva
Golf MK1 as well.
Never mind. Bembli sees it too.
Nah, the moment I saw it I thought Mk I Golf, but I can see a lancia in there too
I was not expecting those R3's! Kudos to Rivian.
Insane! California-based companies are killing it with automotive design. Very Swedish.🇸🇪
nah tesla is mid at best. Only rivian nailed it
that being said, except for the cybertruck and the future roadster, all teslas look more or less the same in terms of design language. Just different sizes of the same model, be it the S, the 3, the X or the Y. So, tesla isnt really doing anything about developing those models designwise, other than incrementally.@@MaticTheProto
Agreed with @MaticTheProto-only Rivian is really nailing the design details like this. (Look at Fisker! Yeesh, what a disappointment in the looks department.) I’m so impressed with Rivian’s recent announcements. The R2 is nice, although not at all surprising. But the R3 really shows how they’re able to apply their strong identity to a new form factor and create a vehicle that’s unmistakably Rivian. The only other car company close to having such a strong and coherent design language today is Genesis. I hope other car companies follow suit in developing strong and identifiable design languages, but I don’t have much faith in the big players.
Also: I actually think it looks even more Swedish than any of the vehicles Sweden produces today!
yeah, the r3 nailed the retro-futuristic look@@rootypoots
This is the kind of car that makes you happy just by seeing it on the road.
Soo much personality... Lovely.
R3 is a brilliant car. Well done Rivian.
I really love the design. Very nice blend of retro and modern.
I know I’m in the minority, but smaller wheels with more rubber would give it a cooler more retro look.
Golf syncro, it's nice to see you again...
Looks like a Lada Riva at certain angles. Very 1970's inspired, Love it
Whoever designed this needs a bonus or tons more stock options. This designer knows cars.
It looks fantastic, I just hope it stays around 60" tall or less. I really want this to be a hatchback.
I couldn’t believe my eyes 😳 I love love love this design 😍 home run
The side profile of the R3 reminds me of a late 70’s/early 80’s Honda Civic. Nostalgic to me, as that car with a manual transmission is what I learned to drive in.
The rear end design looks great! The R3X is very cool. I like the interior too, especially with the tan and brown from the R3X.
That Plymouth Horizon is awesome!
I get Lada Niva vibes from this
Yes, the 4 door Niva proportions.
@@litchips I wonder if it'll offroad like a Niva
R3 looks fantastic. Great body lines giving hints of the past called together into a modern look.
I think the main design inspiration was the Lada Niva. Classic russian small SUV.
Yes! Like a long wheel base Lada Niva?
I have Golf syncro vibes too...
VW Rabbit
The R3X looks like a car in Cyberpunk 2077
I LOVE the R3x. Looks like a modern interpretation of the Lancia Delta Integrale.
This car looks like a happy car and that’s whats drawing me to it. I love the 3x color and yelllow interior. They are taking design risks that you don’t see elsewhere.
Literally a pocket rocket. Well done Rivian!
e.Lon can suck it, and he should.
I love Rivians I just think the front ends look goofy.
I think it looks iconic tbh, the BMW "kidneys" look more goofy imo.
Yes those two vertical loops might be convenient ways to integrate the sensors.. but it already looks dated. And their scalloped / recessed shape does not look aerodynamic at all. But the thing I like least is the long bonnet for an EV, it's a design carry over from ICE vehicles and just doesn't make sense when electric motors are so small. A long bonnet compromises cabin space and windscreen visibility.
@@axiomic Rivians has pretty good packaging so I don't think space should be an issue. Additionally it allows for a bigger frunk, but it also provides more safety in the event of a frontal crash. Regarding visibility, I don't think that will be too much of an issue either, people are used to bonnets/hoods, and I don't thing people have really ever had a big problem in most cars.
Very cool looking hot hatch! I love that I could have bikes on a hitch carrier and still be able to access the rear trunk. This is a massive pain with things like jeeps where the rear door has to be opened before you can raise the rear window.
The R3 rolled out and I immediately felt like it was a callback to the Golf Country
I definitely could see myself driving and owning one of these ☺️
Fantastic design. I know you mentioned that the Mk1 Golf in the video, but I am also seeing the Lancia Delta, Fiat Panda (all of which are Giugiaro designs), as well as the Lada Niva 4x4.
I like how surprised the audience was by the "flipper" glass. That feature used to be common on many hatches, wagons and SUVs up until about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, once one manufacturer takes away a feature, the others follow. It would have been so helpful on all the vehicles I've owned in recent years.
One of my favorite designs of the past 4 decades - easily.
very excited for these. Rivian just needs to stay alive
When I was growing up my parents had a Dodge Omni. This reminds me so much of that little car.
The R3 is incredible… take my money, Rivian
I think this is the future for Rivian. This small platforms are so good. Interesting how they will develop in Europe.
Love that MK1 GTI styling.
Very well executed kudos rivian! Im rooting for you to succeed. Would like to see a rivian car in future
This thing looks so cool. And the interior of these Rivian’s is top tier. Those tactile knobs on the wheel are so aesthetically pleasing and seem to offer great functionality.
The taillights remind me of a 1965 Dodge Charger 😊 not a bad thing either ❤
What Livian need is, mass production, the literal mean of 'mass'. Their product is just superb, but not enough affordable and available to meet the market demand.
🔋🧂
Welp humanity screwed our selves by not putting AC Propulsion based BEVs into production a Decade Earlier. All the road blocks that took to get modern BEVs mass production even while the technology existed. We are now dealing with the consequences of not having the manufacturing capacity.
i'm in love with all this minimalism
me and my fiancée were invited to the advent sadly couldn't make it...
shocked about the r3 wasnt expecting that!! love both of them..
Advent?
Yay I'm so glad they had that glass hatch! My E39 wagon has one of those and it's SO USEFUL, I'm so glad that it's making a comeback
Nostalgic , funky and practical, can’t wait to see it on the road!
Good direction with going with NACS charge port. But Rivian needs to put it on the LHD driverside
They put a lot of thought into this. Also want to sell to Europe. Sidewalk charging and for current Rivian owners this location works better in garage
I love the return of the large clean surfaces like in the Golf 4
I completely fell in love with the R3. I agree this looks like a spiritual successor to the Golf Country (I am not sure this was sold in the US) and it is exactly what I would want the Volkswagen ID line to look alike (front aside)
Finally the hatchback gets love again
In another video a lot of the comments mentioned the presentor looks like Steve-O and I cannot unsee it ... also. I love the R3, cant wait to get one
I love the look of that vehicle. Very cool.
nice both new models now .they need to do a mini pickup with a smaller king cab and 6' box
love the look of these cars, hope they prove all of us wrong and stay on the road for the next 30+ years
doesnt it look like the first generation of fiat panda. Giugiaro style as you said. Im loving it
Rivian has done a spectacular job with the R3 and R2! They've really done well to hone their unique style and distinguish themselves from other modern car brands, even more so than BMW right now, which is shocking to say.
Yes,.the lines are clean and looks modern yet classic..that's what we like!
It looks like a retrofuturistic lada 4x4, i love it
Just wow. They absolutely nailed the R3
It looks so cool!! This, the Honda E and Ioniq 5 are the coolest looking EVs!
R3 looks like a 80's hatchback combined with Lada Niva and the interior reminds me of Citroen interior design
I will literally replace or have this next to my Mk8 VW GTI. It’s perfect. I’m so thankful this exists
I’m planning to get the Model Y Performance in a few months. If that R3X was coming out sooner than it’s scheduled to, I’d buy it instead. It looks so incredible.
The Rivian R3 design has some kind of a "Cyberpunk" feel... I like it... ;)
I love the look of the r3. Love the vw golf/rabbits of late 70’s-80’s. They made the e-golf vw didint.
You see Golf i see 80's Civic in the rear quarter. Both are correct. This car spits 80's. This car here is the Synthwave of car design. Just awesome!
The R3 is perfect. It looks incredible.
Looks like a 90 VW Golf. I like it!
80s Rabbit GTI
Nostalgic yet futuristic. I'm still getting used to front, but the rest of the car is an instant classic.
That thing is fantastic.. like an old Renault R5 or as you said, the golf.. but nicely bulkier with an excellent line and shape. What a charming and very impressive work!
Love the scroll wheels on the steering wheel. You could even scroll with your fingers on the back side of steering wheel.
wow, the R3 is just so cool ! Love the design, looking forward to the electric specs for range and consumption
Absolutely fantastic design! I‘d love to drive one
Wasn't impressed with the R3 front, they should made it significantly different from the R1T and R3. Like downsizing the horizontal front light bar, for a thin led, maintaining the brand signature.
First time that I would love to have more cars than I actually need. That R3X would complement my R1T very well. Exciting stuff
my first thought: a Golf 2 Country, redesigned by Polestar
Bembli teaches me a lot about car designs just by talking about it🔥
It's interesting how they have a Hoffmeister kink, but it's in the body panels rather than the window. Neat trick.
I'm curious about the rear light bar as my understanding was that brake/indicator lights need to wrap around the side by a certain amount for regulatory compliance, but that doesn't seem possible in this design. I do love the way the whole thing looks though, excited to see more as this moves along development!
This design looks fantastic.
Ok, this looks fantastic! It looks like a modernisation of a Golf Mk1, a Lancia Delta and Volvo styling. It is really, REALLY good looking. Almost wish it had an ICE.
I agree when I first look at it, it reminds me old 70s and & 80s cars like 1st gen Honda Civic or the Yugo Zastava
I want a 2-door Fastback version of it.
Great to see so many people excited by a "small" car
Looking supercool! :)
The car proportions and design is spot on. My only remark that is applicable for all rivians are the headlights. I tried in Photoshop the same lights horizontally oriented instead of vertical and it makes the car look more serious and wider, still with a typical Rivian headlight identity.
R3 and R3X most beautiful EVs now in market 💥
I'm not an electric car guy, I don't even look in their direction but this could very well ❤convert me. Perhaps because I own a 91 golf GTI (my darling). I think the two would look great together in the driveway.
Looks good=italian=art❤🇮🇹
I feel like as long as the gauge cluster and infotainment screen aren't sticking out or on top of the dashboard as you see on an Audi Q5, it's passable for being considered well-integrated. So in other words, the placement of the gauge cluster and infotainment screen in the Rivian R3 can somewhat be considered well integrated in my book.
Absolutely stunning that R3! 100% agree, C pilar is clearly inspired by the MkI Golf. And CEO’s face clearly inspired by Steve O’s 😂
Looks like a cool modern VW Golf Cross Country (except for some VW design graphics & badges) . I appreciate Rivian for their care for buyers & enthusiasts & their wise decisions.
really reminds me of a lada niva or a classic civic, really retro but also modern and clean.
If they get the pricing right and the base model's cheaped out the *right* way (crib Land Rover's white steelies and offer some bright primary colors) this might be my next car/first EV.
It reminds me of Lasa Niva. Cool car design too!
The first compact SUVs like the S10 blazer allowed you to pop open the rear glass like that. I’m not sure why it went away but I am glad to see it make a comeback.
R3 is awesome. Love it.
It funny how it reminded me of the R5, the traditional one.
Nice video! And love the new R3. Wish they made the front of the car smaller/lower/shorter. Now it looks a bit front heavy…
And why not a 6th seat in front?
Rivian just nailed it with the R3X and R2. Other EV startups look like amateur hour
Rivian created an electric hot hatch. The short overhangs, especially at the rear. That chamfer running from the angled back. The backlights set in a framed hatch. They nailed the proportions. The squarish steering wheel with taptic rollers for navigating menus. The interior style of the R3X is modern and retro. I would absolutely buy this vehicle. Sad it's likely years away. I hope Rivian financially survives. These are very relevant vehicles.
I'm thinking AMC Pacer. Do you know of the Pacer? I rode in a brand new Pacer when they first came out and it was amazing. All the glass and the width of the seating area was groundbreaking for a small car. but it didn't sell because it didn't look quite right to buyers.
I can clearly see the lines of the short wheelbase “classic” ŁADA NIVA in this design….and that's a good thing!!
