I’m looking to buy a Rivian and I’m so glad for people like you that actually share your real life experiences for the rest of us. Really helps in making a purchase decision.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey. This will be very helpful for current and future Rivian owners. God bless your car and your family drive it in good health.🙏🏻
Thanks for the update on the rear hatch issue Duke. That's been one of the few issues I've had with my R1S, so it's nice to hear it's so readily fixable.
You're welcome! They said it was the top seal of the cargo hatch that was causing the problem and it needed to be adjusted. It must be a known issue because they knew the solution immediately. I hope you get yours fixed as well. Thanks for commenting!
Awesome video, thank you, Duke. I’m really interested in getting an R1S and this video was very helpful in helping me understand what to look out for and expect.
Got my R1T last week. I wanted to say thanks, you contributed to this. I wish they would give us a referral bonus because there is at least a dozen ppl looking to buy one now thanks to me. Ppl think I'm a magician because they are paying more monthly for their Model Y's.
You're welcome! I'm glad you got some value from the content. And yes, a referral program would be nice and it may help boost sales. Thanks for commenting!
Your service experience reminds me of the same treatment I use to get at Tesla when I took delivery of my Model S 85D back in 2015. AMAZING! until the model 3 was released then service quality hit the floor and kept going downward from there. Hopefully Rivian will do better when the roads are flooded with the R3.
If they don't continue to build out service centers to match demand customer experience will go down. Of course they can mitigate this by improving quality on the front end, but R3 will be an interesting test for sure. Thanks for commenting!
Hope you’re enjoying your R1S otherwise! You can correct your headlights easily! Mine were pointed down and not effective enough at night. Open the frunk and pop the trim up above the headlights. It’s super simple. You’ll use a 12mm ratcheting wrench on this bolt. There are directions on the housing which is up or down. Best to try at night. If you need to correct the position left to right, you’ll see a separate area that’s covered where the adjustments can be made. Follow the 25ft rule where you park 25ft away from a wall, and mark the appropriate height. Then adjust away. Hope this helps!
Thanks for providing this information. I was aware of this option, but I decided to have Rivian correct the issue since it may be more than just our R1S with this issue. Also, the Rivian Owners Guide says "the headlights are not user-serviceable" so, I didn't want to give anyone an opportunity to void the warranty.
Thanks for the walk through of this. By the way what did you name your guns? Smith and Wesson, Bonnie and Clyde? lol. Looking fit for your age bud! Keep it up.
Hello thanks for the video. You are extremely detailed. Is there an additional cost when they fix the problems at the service appointment? How long do you have to notify rivian of problems before it is classified your fault?
Wow, we took delivery of our R1S in early April and had the EXACT same gap you showed on the drivers side and front quarter panel where the quarter panel is out more than the actual door. Weird issue, but they were able to fix it while they had it to redo some PPF issues. Other than that, we love our R1S!
These issues were minor in nature, and the build quality has improved since I took delivery of my R1T in February 2023. The service has also improved since I had my R1T serviced back in September 2023. Thanks for commenting.
Your willingness to be patient and cooperative on a "new" car is admirable. Rivian asked me to be more understanding and cooperative, however after the second or third service call (6 total service calls in 10 months of ownership) i was totally resentful that i had spent $110,000 on a 2024 R1S Maxpack that had regularly occuring mfg defects and oversights. Seat track bolt stripped, exterior badges peeling off, 12V drained to zero, interior door laminate bubbled and peeled, bracket on driver door not connected..... I sold my R1S for a $40k loss last week. Totally disheartening as i've been an EV driver for 8 years. I WOULD NOT BUY A RIVIAN again! Further, it is immoral that Rivian will by trying to scale their defective brand with the R2 launch. Buyer beware!
@@EricNelson-j1u I own 2 Rivians, and I frequently engage in Rivian forums, and I would say your experience is not typical of the majority Rivian owners. In fact, this is the first time I have heard complaints about interior quality, and the external quality issues are normally panel gaps that can easily be adjusted. Also, Rivian has never asked me to ignore any issues, so I find that a bit odd. There are also Lemmon laws that might apply, and Rivian has gone as far as purchasing and replacing Rivians when they didn't have to. However, my Rivian experience has been awesome for both the R1T and R1S and I will definitely stick with the brand because of my positive experience. Rivian also has the highest owner satisfaction rate of any vehicle which is further proof that your experience is not typical of most owners.
I did request Rivian repurchase the car, started with regional manager and escalated repo with Headquarters. They wouldn't do it. It didn't legally qualify as a Lemon and I wasn't willing to wait and incur legal expenses to go that route. The car is cool. I hope your 2 hold together. That said, I am very pessimistic on the car and the company, especially as they try to scale the R2 coming off very sketchy history with the R1. Last, the mobile service team here in Phx is outstanding. They were very competent and very qualified to fix all my problems. They would never disparage the car or the company directly, but if you "read between the lines" they seemed very concerned. The wait time for mobile service has gone from a few weeks to a few months here. My interpretation is, they are inundated with repairs. Last
Wow. I have that exact same issue with the gap between the drivers door and front fender! My concern is that I took delivery April 5 and just passed 1,000 miles. Plus, I won’t be able to get it into service until after a 5,000 mile road trip. Does Rivian enforce a statute of limitations for these cosmetic issues that I did not recognize initially?
You are the second person that committed with the exact issue. I would put in a service request ASAP documenting all of your issues. We took delivery on April 4th, and we had over 1000 miles on ours as well before I submitted the service tickets. Thanks for sharing!
@@thedukeofmiddleville to me it seems like more than just the door misalignment. It looks like the curvature of the door is a couple fractions of a degree off from the adjacent fender.
This is for everyone. Kneel Mode will not activate when the vehicle is on High or Highest ride height. I enjoy riding higher especially when driving in the city where the speed limit is under 45mph. Sometimes when I park, I have to switch to Normal ride height before parking then I can the vehicle will kneel. If you ever encounter this issue switch into drive , lower your height then park again. This is how the software is designed unfortunately.
I complained about the rear seatbelt. It's not fixable, that's the way the seat is designed. They need to put the holder like the other two seats have there and that would fix it.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) noted this about the R1S rear seat: "The rear passenger dummy's lap belt moved from the ideal position on the pelvis onto the abdomen, increasing the risk of abdominal injuries." This is not the case for the R1T. They need to fix this. Thanks for sharing!
Is the appointment to get these things fixed, or just for someone to take a look and approve your request? How long does it take to actually get work completed?
That must be the least busy SC I’ve ever heard of. Here in San Diego, service appointments are at least 3-4 months out, and there are never Rivian loaners. Enterprise rental cars.☹️
I’m curious how long it will take in Irvine then.😄 What do you do if you can’t drive your Rivian for 2 months for example? Let’s say it broke down. Who repair Rivians id they don’t have dealerships?
I'm in the Midwest, so that might have something to do with it, and California has the highest EV adoption rate of any state by far. California has 6 service centers, but has six times as many EVs as the second highest state (Florida) which has two service centers. In other words, California needs more service centers.

I have paid for tire rotation though.

Same issues as mine! They did make the better but not completely

Lol is your shirt at the end mirrored? Thought it was the video for a minute but the Rivian text was right. Good overview!
Thanks! My wife made that shirt for short form videos made with my phone so the words won't be reversed.
