    Owning a Rivian is definitely on my bucket list. Rivian is a great brand and company and the most amazing aspect is that it’s just getting started. The future for Rivian looks very bright.

    We own an R1S coming from two Teslas prior.. It is my wife’s primary driver, despite she works from home mostly. We have roadtripped it to Key West and back and have enjoyed it very much. Agree with all the points David highlights in his video. David- you create some of my favorite automobile reviews, they are qualitative as well as fact based. Keep them up! From one engineer to another- keep them coming.

    Great review, David. I’ve had my R1S for three months and absolutely love it. As you note, there are number of things to get used to if you’re coming from a more traditional ICE vehicle but I was surprised at how easy it was to get acclimated.

    In the trunk area, you did not lift up that first storage area to reveal even larger storage area underneath. And with the front trunk when you lift it up the first divider, it has magnets to hold it up so you can put more stuff in the front, it makes it a deeper frunk

    Owning the R1S as my first EV, I've found that even at the medium level, the brake regen is really nice to drive - once you get used to it (which takes about 15 minutes.) It's actually very relaxing driving one-pedal, much more so than gas/brake.

      @@jorgenietoontiveros137 I can see how that might be disconcerting. Fortunately on the R1S Rivian did a nice job on linking the brake lights to the one pedal regen operation.

    One important thing you forgot to mention is that while the controls for steering wheel adjustment and HVAC may be only on the screen but they are all linked to your profile. So when you get in the truck after your spouse, it adjusts everything to your settings, even the HVAC, not just temperature but also direction of the vents. Tesla takes it one step further and allows you to save your profile online so you can step into anyone's tesla and log in and it will adjust to all your personal setting, even the custom menu items on the screen.

    This review does give us a good feel for the Rivian. I like the split tailgate and the flat floor even with the 3 seats. The speed and design are definitely a plus. It seems that the designers have really though out the features and actual useability of the vehicle not just add cool stuff that owners may never use. We had those same Pirelli Scorpion tires on our Escape Hybrid and they were great. Good in snow, rain and even worked well off-road. Surprisingly quiet for an all terrain tire. We like the new Land Cruiser 250, however this is the only full electric SUV we would consider. Keeping our 2014 4Runner and 2023 Rav4 hybrid for now until Toyota comes out with their full new SUV lineup for 2025...

    Interesting to hear this R1S has good panels. I declined the white one this week due to bad panels level and gaps after they tried to fix it. Now waiting for a new VIN to match. I noticed the silver one next to mine is better , so I’m guessing some colors are built better?

    Nice very thorough review David, the R1S is a nice and stout EV SUV well put together and material quality is quite good also ,, friends of mine in California know a family who has one and they are really happy with it and have told them it gets close to what the EPA rates it at and has fast charging capability , the only thing holding it back is the charging infrastructure, unreliable half the time and the other half of that is when you pull up to use a fast charger they almost never give anything close to the 250-300 fast charge rating most of the time it is only again 50% of the rating , i did not know that when you are just cruising on the highway it will revert to FWD only, simply being far more energy efficient , At $130k CDN i will never afford one of these, it is almost double my annual earnings, I'd be happy with the base F-150 Lighting it has everything i need , even then in Canada they give it too much content putting it out of the range of most buyers,Thx you David 👍

      Max charging on the Rivian is about 210kw. That is peak, there are a lot of factors like what state of charge the battery is at, battery temperature etc. 150-180kw sustained is a good and normal charge rate. Just because it's a 350kw charger, doesn't mean you can accept 350kw. I've done thousands of miles road tripping and yet to encounter a charging station that doesn't work - maybe a single stall.
      The vehicle only switches to FWD on the highway in conserve mode. It's good for efficiency, but there's a tradeoff on power/traction and front tire wear. Pros and cons.

    Whereas Tesla feels more fluff than substance, the Rivian is the opposite. There is a ton of cool but very usable & practical design considerations which I quite like. The quality also looks better than any Tesla, which is amazing since Rivian is far newer than the former.

    If I were in the market for a luxury EV SUV, I would definitely put the Revian on my short list. It is pricey though, but it's a multipurpose all around vehicle. The air shocks are a great idea; however, I don't believe one manufacturer has figured out how to make them reliable or inexpensive to replace. 19:05

    This is one lovely EV SUV I was following since a while. But if in 2024 I have the money to spend on an EV SUV as awesome as this one, I will still pick the legendary and mighty 2024 GX 550 Hybrid and think again about an EV Rivian when my GX 550 celebrates its 15th birthday... But unfortunately I can't afford the GX 550 so waiting for the Landcruiser or revamped 4Runner (Hybrids)

    • @Cttechexpress
      @Cttechexpress 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing to say the Rivian won't last, they are well built. The battery is warrantied for 8 years, and for a few thousand dollars you can add another 5-8 more through third parties like Xcare. Lexus will never offer the power or efficiency of the Rivian either - 17 MPG? Plus the practicality of a huge Rivian frunk is nice.
      Also fuel costs... over 200K miles a Lexus getting 17 MPG on premium at $4 a gallon would cost $47K in gas. A Rivian R1S at 2 miles/KW, $0.19/kw comes to $19k. A savings of $28000 just in fuel...

    The one thing that I find exciting and game-changing on my R1T is the level of OTA updates. The OTAs often add functionality and desirable new features that constantly improve the R1's appeal and ownership experience. I realize Tesla has set the bar very high, and Legacy brands are touting OTA updates of their own. Still, they seem unable to match what Tesla or Rivian has as normality and already baked into their core hardware and software designs. It's clear how much further along Rivian and Tesla are with their design strategies. I would say Tesla and even Rivian are a decade ahead of the legacy brands on this subject alone. It's clear to me now why so many horse and buggy makers back in the day never successfully lead innovation with automobile technology, even though they were the Goliaths of transportation at the beginning of the automobile revolution.

  • @CMCNestT
    @CMCNestT 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    An on/off button is completely stupid. You control the on/off functionality by getting inside or leaving the vehicle. Regen isn't unnatural and non-regen isn't natural Regen system is the natural electric vehicle way and non-regen is the natural ICE way. Rivian should not try to recreate the ICE experience. Very few of those folks that want an electric car that seems like an ICEv are interested in Rivian anyway. If they do buy an EV it will likely be from a legacy automaker.
