Thank you so much for this video. I was gifted this game by a friend a year ago, and I've spent hours trying to figure out how to start playing this game. It has the worst tutorial I've ever seen in a game, and I've had no idea what I'm supposed to do or how to start doing it. This video has made me able to actually play this game!
That's why i made it! I quit playing probably 3 times before really learning it because i got stuck on the Oxygenator part lmfao! I'm so glad this could help you!
I'm glad to see this comment (and others) saying how terrible the tutorial is. I've been messing about for an hour and really haven't had a clue what I'm doing
there is something special about this video. It feels like the good old days of youtube when gameplay videos weren't butchered with random editing and constant talking over the gameplay. This video is special. Really like the vibe of it. And your voice is just cherry on the top. Very calming effect it has.
Thank you SO much! That warms my heart to hear! I try my best to avoid over editing by being a mixture of terrible at editing, and also disliking the editing process, you've put my mind more at ease :D
I think he did well enough without any editing. I’d rather watch simple video guides like this instead of one with a thousand quick cuts and it’s too hard to tell what’s going on.
The little research samples can be fed into a research chamber for a greater byte reward (about 4x bytes compared to sampling out in nature). They also grow back every day, so you can set up an auto-research station: research chamber, 2 small wind turbines for power(depending on the planet), and an auto arm to pluck the samples, all set on a large platform B, and you have eternal byte research. I tend to put these in the caves on Glacio when I get there, but a couple anywhere on Sylva would help with the early game. You can also research snail shells and resources. Even a single organic gives 50 bytes in a research chamber, albeit taking 2.5 minutes to do it. Still, if you're not in a hurry...
I could watch and listen to you play Astroneer all day long. As others have said, you have a great voice and cadence for this kind of thing. Keep it up and good luck.
That's so sweet! Thank you so much! I think most content creators spend so much time listening to their own voice they start to hate it! That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said!
I was looking for a tutorial to show my younger sister how to play, and boy am I glad I found this! Simple and straightforward, no extra talking and no crazy editing. Perfect!
Thank you so much for this! I was struggling with the tether right at the start and just kept collapsing everywhere 😅 I was looking forward to enjoying this game but the tutorial is really terrible, so thank you for helping me actually get started. I hope you make more videos, I've subscribed!
Thank you for this video. When I started astroneer I was really lost and this helped a lot. And now I’m stuck again, because I seem to not find important stuff. So any guides on how to proceed or where to find stuff, how to explore without getting lost etc are greatly appreciated
1:11 OMFG. I've been messing around for a freaking hour trying to figure out how to find the small printer and oxygenator, and they were there the whole time?? They could have made it a bit more obvious
EXACTLY what prompted me to make this, i spent almost an hour before googling when i first played, and i decided i would make a video once i learned the game xD
Another tip when gathering, if you switch modes such as the up arrow that picks up land, every resource in that area will be picked up at the same time. Making it a bit faster early on
i didn't know what to do in this game. good thing i saw your video. your enthusiasm for this game is obvious haha. thanks for helping us by creating this video.
8:37 Deja vu You've put/told the same thing twice 😅 But still, a great video, didn't know what do to with those exo research stations : D Edit 1: Same with the oxygen tanks 15:03 :/
I'm stuck on the Astroneering Bas(e)ics mission. I put the oxygenator on my Shelter and plugged a cable into the printer, but it doesn't let me "collect my starting gear from any landing pad." I'm trying everything, it doesn't seem to work... your video shows the same thing but it works for you for some reason???
Take all the dirt, make it useful, then dig straight down. It’s fun for sure but for the most part that’s how you beat it. Also I forgot the names of the machines, I played the very first couple of builds and it was not very vehicle friendly to say the least 😅 for online that was
Thx for that video it is now in game pass, but there is no damn turtorial and I stuck right now at the point with that thing what makes the printer? But only in my game it expand show this bluish thing under and no more. I give a another try but from a first start it is very bad at what you should do!
The fact that I couldn’t even figure out how to sprint or even pick stuff up on a controller 😭this helps with a tutorial even if not on controller very helpful cuz dam was I stuck on what to do lol
Hey, I looked for the next one, and it didn't exist...! There seemed to be a duplication of a small part of the video near the end... made me wonder if I should stop drinking lemon water... it was the 2 oxygen tanks...

The controller controls for this game are so unintuitive that I nearly threw my controller through the wall and refunded this game. However, after watching some videos like yours and sticking with it, I did finally start enjoying the game at about 2 hours and 1 minute - just outside the refund window 😂

I’m sure this was pointed out but I quickly glanced through the comments and didn’t see it. 7:07 is repeated at 8:25. Thanks for the great videos though!
Super, just right for me. Several things I didn't know, especially putting machines on large platforms to add automation to some extent. Hope you do/did more, I'm a bit further in at a "what do I do now" stage!
The tutorial on the Switch is especially poor. First off, as soon as you exit the ship it covers that entire animation with the tutorial screen, teaching how to "walk" and "look around"... no I'm sorry, I think it just says "revolve" or... something like that. 🙄 Then, it tells you a couple decent hints and keys, it tells you how to pick stuff up (but not how to drop it), and that you need to "install" the oxygenator... which just means dropping it near the base... but it doesn't tell you the key binds for using the tethers or how to take things out of your bag... or... idk it's just really bizarre. I remember playing this before either on Xbox or PC for hours and really enjoying it... But man, has it been a pain to get started on the Switch!
It’s fun you just need to figure out a lot things to get going it’s an intensive game that require your full attention if anything else the game just require more from the player.
@@caractus6926 odd comment that someone doesnt find something fun? my good man you are the odd one, quite an odd comment you made indeed to a very normal scenario.
This still didn’t help much because you’re playing on the PC and the controls are completely different on Xbox… I don’t mind trying most survival games, but I hate how many of them just drop you into the world without explaining anything at all about how to actually survive. 😑
I'm sorry! For future guides i'll look into adding Controller buttons on screen! thank you for the feedback, and i hope things work out in Astroneer for ya! and i agree! Some games tutorial systems are DREADFUL

that intro was excellent
New to the game and this was a great guide...keep up the good work.
I was actually running around for half an hour before I realized I could open that tab. I’m so smart 👍
thank you i just got the game and had no idea what i was doing wish there was a tutorial
I wish you had actually talked about adding power to your base and your rover and soooo much more of the beginner stuff. Good start though!
Yes
Playing on ps4 and idk how to do half the stuff you did
I also found out if you put the sample in the research chamber, take it out right before it finishes and scan it to get even more bytes.

Trying to follow this with my son but cant starting with the oxygenator because telling what needs to be done but not how

I didnt get the planetfall mission only astroneering basics
I was watching this solely to find resin. There isn’t a single node anywhere near my spawn and I thought there was something specific to finding it.
the tether did not drop for me and I dont think I can craft one
I’m still stuck on how to make the smelter

Thanks for the vid
You say this easy as pie. 2:00 "grab a tether and just drop it", well damn it how do you drop it.
I'm so sorry! Erm, on PC the default to drop it is "T" If it's on one of your backpack arms!
