As a pro of astroneer, I feel obligated to point out that tip #5 is a bit dated now, there’s a better strategy. See below:
Step one: unlock the “Proximity Repeater” from the catalog.
Step two: using two zinc, print out two proximity repeaters (or any number you can so long as it’s an even number)
Step three: Go to Glacio and take as many repeaters as you can with you.
Step four: Take the repeaters down into the caves next to those respawning samples and place down two repeaters next to the pole, within range of each other
Step five: activate the repeaters, and they will set up an eternal loop.
Step six: do as many more pairs as you like
This method will automatically scan the samples the instant they respawn, for eternity. And you don’t even have to be on the same planet! It’s super cheap, super fast, takes no power at all, and will give you effortless riches for eternity.
Well, if you consider bytes to be riches.
This is a good setup but, setting these repeaters up on the core of Atrox or the surface of Sylva yield the same bpm due to the respawn times of the larger byte samples. Every sample essentially takes one minute for every 3 bytes to respawn. Meaning a 10 byte sample takes 3 minutes. A 300 byte sample takes 90 minutes. The only thing that really makes a difference is how many samples there are in the range of the repeater. A plant with 3 samples that grow is faster than 2. Other than that they’re all effectively the same bpm for all planets all locations.

I have a personal strategy that I love to use when conquering planets. Bring a packed field shelter, a medium T platform, a few resin and compounds (including in your character’s crafting slot), and then bring the materials to make a soil centrifuge, a small shredder (or a larger one if you want), and a trade platform. Then you can use the soil centrifuge to get your common resources without having to look for them, and you can use it to craft either canisters or small wind turbines to feed into the shredder for scrap. Then you can trade for whatever you want!
That’s a pretty good technique.
The medium T platform is a hidden gem
I'm late to the conversation but, my latest strategy is to take my large rover paving rig to each planet and land as close as possible to a gateway. Unlock the first gateway and then pave a road 3/4ths the way around the planet and to the north and south poles unlocking the gateways as I go. Then go back to the base and zig zag a road to the center. That opens up every level of caves and can be a good location for resources.
nomad gathering... Use your air tank on your backpack, get maximum distance from your ship, pull out your excavation tool, then grab your ship from long range. Astroneer tips 101.
Also the qt-rtg is the best power source not a regular rtg. It might produce one 4th of the power but the size difference makes it more comparable. If you had a medium silo full of them in your ship you could have a atmospheric condenser run at full power in a large shuttle and still have extra power. They're just way harder to get making them a less viable method
Depends on what you mean by best.
They are more compact, but I personally don't care about that enough to avoid the larger ones since the larger ones are so much easier to mass-produce, and you can hide them away wherever you want and simply run a power cable from there to your base.
The QTs are fun to gather, though, because of the compactness and rarity. They're also technically more useful in shuttles, as you said, but by the time you get enough for that to be the case, you're probably already late game enough to have full bases on every planet, meaning you won't need power in your shuttle.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer fair. I did point out their rarity does make them less viable. However, I'm talking pure power output. If you filled a medium storage silo with them you'd produce about 5 times more power for the same size slot as a regular rtg. It definitely is easier to get regular rtg s though. I just use a medium silo full of as many qt-rtgs and small batteries (unless I have enough qt-rtgs to fill it, which I usually don't) and put that in my oxynator slot. Then I put one regular rtg in the top of the large shuttle storage, followed by a medium gas canister, and then the atmospheric condenser. Then I can gather gases on the planets I have yet to build a base on, and can run the atmospheric condenser at full power and get aa much gasses as I'll likely ever need. It saves me some time either looking for materials to start a base or taking a bunch of stuff from my home base, likely in multiple trips. You can also put 2 large storage silo Bs in there and load them with medium respurse canisters, and you'll have enough storage for pretty much every item type. If you have the jet pack, hoverboard, or VTOL it's not to hard to transport them either. Worst case scenario a tractor works for transport too, and if you have a good road it might even be faster than the other three (obviously large rover with a drill and paver would probably be the best way to gather minable resources, but I'm talking a bit earlier game than that). It's insanely op because you can store almost every resource with that setup.
Love when you're doing run jump, then end up grabbing thruster and throwing it down cave then you go in cave and shuttle ends up glitching a level down so you retrieve, drop to your death and now restart in shuttle in 3rd level cave with nothing. Good time to fill that storage tho

actually using auto extractor on graphite is not such a bad idea. It should definitely be less priority since you can get it with soil. But towards the end game if you are trying to mass produce nanocarbon alloy, then it would help. specially since the ratio of getting it from soil is so low.
You could also place proximity repeaters on research samples to automatically collect them.
I’m quite new to astroneer… never did more than Sylva->Desolo, learning how things worked…
Just started my fourth save two days ago. Getting ready to leave desolo now… I used proximity repeater on top of delay repeaters in the caves before leaving Sylva ( before leaving, all gateway chambers were activated, along with planet’s core)…
Now it takes like « !!!FOREVER!!! » to reach any recipes when trying to print anything!!!
Backpack and small printer recipes are completed, besides those pne or two recipes i won’t need before reaching like 2 planets further, or Atrox (for helium?!)…
And most of the med/large are 3/4 done…
i just need to know if i have to locate/find all of em and deactivate em!😜 can anyone tell me if the « bytes left » amount when you « finish », has any impact or purpose?
Sadly they've changed the amount of scrap from small canisters.
They now only give 1/4 of a scrap piece.
They always gave 1/4. Did I say something else in this video? I don’t remember.
1 soil canister full of soil in the centrifuge gives 4 resin which gives 4 canisters which gives 1 scrap.

Be incredibly careful nomad gathering on Atriox. I and my shuttle both exploded and I lost hours of planning during a trip to the north pole

Better hack for moving the shuttle: Use the terrain tool. The old exploit is that when your terrain tool is open, your reach is HUGE. So run out a good distance away (don't suffocate) turn back toward the shuttle, open the terrain tool, grab the shuttle and pull it to you. Easy peasy, and works with any large item.

To keep the savefile as small as possible and game performance at best. Research atmosphere condenser and a research station from start and endless loop them. Only dig when you really have to and grind smart for the extractor. And start automation in the progress. Canisters canisters canisters for fluid, ore etc is your best friend.

#5 plant a load of popcoral and then once grown dig them up for the balls that you can pop onto a research platform. Worth up to several thousand each and you can farm them on mass with half a dozen research platforms running simultaneously.

You can 'activate' byte samples to research them sp if you use timer and a activator you have automatated it or you can use use a arm and a research table but that costs power and the normal smeltery sucks use the small portable one its the same speed and uses 2u/s instead of 5u/s and is the smallest size possible

I nomad gather until I find a gateway chamber, then I get infinite soil, everything changes with infinite soil.

@@unshelledpig2074 equip a wide mod on your terrain tool, go to a gateway chamber, there are three pillars, they're three sided columns, the floor next to the inner face is a triangle, pave over it with the terrain tool on flatten mode for a bit, then start drawing soil on excavate mode, you'll find you can fill your canister over and over. The crane with a drill attached will allow you to fill up a ton of medium soil canisters, I play on my ps5 so I put a thick elastic around my R2 button and go take a nap.

If you would use large storage silos that are fully slotted with medium soil canisters on a 4 long large rover chain you can carry 2016 soil
RTGs on a XLPlattform B with that method make 192 Power/s

The scrap from soil is better with 2 small printers and the cannister can be on the big soil cannister or the centrifuge.

The video is 9 months old now but, I'm just getting the opportunity to comment on it. I've tried byte trails. Yea, not for me. I like starting a base on other planets starting out. On my first playthrough which I just recently started playing again my small shuttle is still on Desolo. Why you say? I got lucky finding items in the wrecks and built the large shuttle on my first trip away from Sylva so I didn't need the small shuttle anymore. The autoextractor is really nice. Apparently I can't find good deposits because I'm constantly having to move it because the resource runs out. Usually it's just moving it over a little. Seems like it'd help a lot if they extended the range of the autoextractor. I won't even consider building a train to my autoextractors as long as it takes longer to build the train than the time I would save using it. I do use an autoextractor on graphite. I don't like the return on the soil centrifuge and don't want to use my scrap for graphite. I did save a screenshot of your best planets for resources. I can't disagree with using scrap. However, there's just something satisfying driving a large rover around the planet scrapping wrecks with the extra large shredder and also using the research chamber. I have the automation set up for the soil canisters to scrap from watching your videos. It's getting me more scrap than I need. I have over 200 just because. I don't use nearly that much. I'm sure I would if I was a more extreme player. I haven't set up the atmospheric condensers on other planets. I usually get enough for what I need in one visit to last quite a while. It is something I may try.
Bytes trails is definitely kinda annoying. I could understand not wanting to do it. Hunting down scrap instead of getting it from soil can also be fun.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer I stopped playing my Xbox save around 2 years ago when I started a new Steam save and played it for a while. I've started playing both of them and got them down to pretty much the 3 multiplayer achievements left. I never bothered trying to get the achievements when I played before. I started back with my large rover going around getting scrap and researching. After watching your videos I thought I'd finally start automating a little. It's different. Actually kind of fun for now. Not sure how long I'll be doing it. I'll probably get my achievements in one of the Xbox or Steam and only keep playing one of them. I'm still not sure if I'll do the railroad missions. Maybe I'll take a break for a while after I finish the achievements and do the railroad later. I've put off doing The Long Dark chapter 4 since it was released. I need to do it.

wait the auto extractor list was wrong, im pretty sure glacio is the best place to auto extract hematite.
It's pretty good on Glacio, but I think it's more abundant on Novus.
As an Astroneer vet I feel the need to say that first and foremost, the first one is common knowledge as far as I know, the second one is that setting up a base in the way you told people not to is a little more efficient if you do it right, and moving the shuttle takes time with your method, I prefer the first one because I like the prepping part tho, it’s more decided by which method you like. Still watching tho
These tips are alright but there are sometimes better or alternative methods that might be better for beginners, also the last one doesn’t work on console as things pause off planet, I have tested this one already
The nomad gathering tip is pretty whack. It's better to take your buggy on the small shuttle, as well as a qt-rtg, and a seat in your inventory. Then you can easily gather the materials to start a new base with little worries
Some people never get the buggy. I’m one of those. I find it very quick and easy to speed run to the higher tier vehicles instead.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer fair. I just use the one from the mission so I don't have to craft it. Then whenever I have enough bytes for the tractor I use that until I can unlock the large rover since the medium rover isn't that much better than the tractor. It just has a little more storage

Soooo....its a lot easier to rush atmosphere condenser for auto-research, and then large shuttle 5:50 is a breeze to start carting off-world for bases..., literally ANY gas will get you thousands of bytes in an hour or two with 2 research deals, and just get xl platforms quick to really automate it all on 1 platform, then just let it auto run while you start setting up auto extractors across the system for all resources, also once you get a few extractors up and running it dont really matter what resource and where, it's still just BETTER...especially for single player and with an auto ar😢m and large resource canister... you say it's expensive but literally all you need is resin organic(carbon) tungsten and hematite....thats 2, maybe 3 extractors to make it fully automated(and a single condenser for argon on glacio, same planet as hematite!) for even more steel and tungsten carbide, as a simple organic/carbon farm is EZ AF to make...and exotic chips aren't hard with a compass and rover.
Scrapping is less effective in the long run than crafting and automating, ive made that mistake too many times of starting scrapping missions too soon

Instructions: put canister on circle part of platform put a RTG next to it and then the auto arm. Put Extractor on Ammonium, any planet works. Put other RTG on top of the Extractor put platform next to it so that the auto arm can reach the Extractor, turn it on and your done!
You could just over clock the auto-extractor and just use one qt-rtg with a canister on top and it would be faster than your setup

You have to filter it to only pick up the item you want by putting one of said item in the middle slot of it.

Hello, do you know why i'm not gettin the achievement for planting every seed? the description lists the 7 defensive seeds but i'm still not gettin it
I'm not sure what the issue would be.
I found a fix. Didn't work for me either, but I picked up all 7 seeds and stored them in a medium storage until I was ready to plant all 7 at once. It worked. Now if you have a fix for mining all resources with the drill tool, I'd like to know, because I mined astronium (the last resource I needed) and I never got the achievement
