  • When you lend money to your friends and they promise to pay you back… but then they don’t. Loaning money to friends and family changes the power dynamic in your relationship and it will never be the same, which is why you shouldn’t do it. It gets annoying to constantly nag for your money back and they take their sweet time, when it was YOUR money. But if you already did it, then this is how you handle people who borrow money and get your money back.

@@toniroberts8117 yeah it's not that I will die if I don't get my money back. But why does the other person which asks for you to LEND him some money, screw you over for years and not even feel bad about not returning them back yet. What is worse in my situation is that this friend of mine keeps asking for gas money occasionally increasing the amount he owes me even more. And every month he promise to return a specific amount back, but at the end of month he gives me (most of the times 0 or) like 1/6 of what he promised and tells me the usual "shit happens".
I truly believe that he wants to pay me back but he is like the lowest IQ person ever and he keeps making poor decisions all the time. Like he waste his time chasing easy money but all he gets is lost time.
Just to make you understand of how big of an idiot we are talking about, he legit believed that he would get a car "during the next 2months" for promoting LR products.. you know the multi level marketing shit.
And for the past 1-1.5year he's been working for Kirby Vacuums. The first 2 months they were paying him for going into people's houses and smacking their balls to convince them buy an overpriced vacuum and IF he sells he gets a share (part of why this vacuum is overpriced. I don't even know how many people take shares from one vacuum sell). This was bad then, BUT HE STILL DOES IT FOR 1 YEAR without getting payed for the meetings. If he is lucky he will deceive 2 people a month to buy that crap and get 400euro, while spending so much of it on gas money anyway. If he is not lucky he will lose time and even money since he gets paid squad if he doesnt sell, and all the gas to go to meetings is on him.
Me and many other friends constantly tried to make him see reason but he just doesn't.😥

This is the main reason to keep a low profile about what you earn and what you have. 💯 unless you have money that isn't promised or committed to someone or something and you can afford to give something up to give it away, then don't lend. By giving something up that may be your friendship also. Be cruel to be kind for sure.

I try not to lend money either, but rather “trade”.
Yeah I’ll give you $40 if you clean my car or mow my lawn.
I’m a bit frustrated I broke my rule and loaned my sister a few hundred bucks. She claimed she was in a bad jam and promised she would pay me back in a month.
Well that was 3 months ago, haven’t seen a dime. Not just that but she asked me to not lend, but GIVE her a hundred bucks to give her 30 year old son who’s in prison.
I was completely shocked and appalled. Of course I wouldn’t give more money.

Happened to me when I went out to eat with a few friends and we all got different things and when the bill came they acted all confused on how to split the bill and started seeing if they had enough which they definitely did, I later had to pay for the whole bill and the tip which did take a big chunk out of my bank account. After a few days they haven’t paid me back and one person even started spending money other things, the other person never pays back even though she has money and always asks people to pay for her like a bagel or drink and even worse they say that they hate people that ask for money and not pay for things themselves.

You know, I have a great idea for your case. I read online that this happened to someone and they decided to get a Square reader (first one is free) that connects to their phone. When they go to a restaurant, that person pays the entire bill and tip. And then proceeds to charge each person in the group with his square reader (fee is around 3% but it's better than not getting his money back) so he gets paid right away and no one can say they didn't bring enough cash because everyone carries around a credit card nowadays.

Hi Thankyou for the advice. I accidentally borrowed a huge amount of money from a trusted family friend. I feel bad she is very upset with me. I was going to pay her half I should be responsible to pay her the first $900. I was on a long summer break. I lost a good family friend. I lack common sense for lack of work. I will pay her back. After I go back to my part time work as a driver. I will pay her back the rest. Now I am trouble for taking too long. I have low income right now. I didn’t want her daughter to be upset. I hope 🤞 she will accept my money for the payback. I learned a lesson never to borrow. I used to lend some money. Not a huge amount. I feel
like a fool. I will stop shopping I made a mistake of giving back with material things. I want to do the right thing 👍I didnt take advantage of her. I learned a new lesson. It was for my bills. I should of asked for an extension on my bill due date. I made too many mistakes lost income from a bad rental experience. 👍

If you want to report money that someone owes you to the IRS, all you need is their Social security number and legal name. Point is, if you are going to give anyone money, get their ss number and legal name and dob, so that you have the security. Also, put an agreement in writing if you ever want or have to take them to court. In short, don't give anyone money that you are not prepared to never see again, or loose a friend

I had to drop a friend this year after 15 years of friendship. My last straw was her shoplifting while we went out. She kept talking about her money issues...though, her parents paid off her new car, and pay her phone bill. She gaslighted me for my good decisions and presumed that since I made more than her, I'm obligated to pay for everything when we went out.
We had been friends since middle school
Unfortunately, she developed BPD before freshman year of college, and things went downhill after that. I tried to be supportive. Some years were great. But after awhile, she settled back into this bad behavior. And, she was really never there for me.
Anyways, I don't wish ill will, and I hope she gets better treatment if she hasn't already. But I couldn't take it anymore.

But are in good position to pay back. and craziest thing is they also blocked us on social media, changed contact numbers. It's really an mental pressure whenever we think about those people.
Moral - never lend money 💰 even how badly other person needed help. We also can always support in other forms. If you can just donate. Don't expect back. It's good for your own health and family

All the points in this video are valid, but I wish there was content forcing the borrower's feet to the fire. My friend, who's also a colleague, hasn't paid me back in 6 months, and I bit my tongue when she was talking about needing a new dress to wear to an acquaintance's destination wedding just 2 months after borrowing money from me. This person is a Boomer making well over 6 figures and yet has the accountability of a 4 year old. To not damage our work relationship, I haven't brought it up and bc I expected a grown a** adult who is a workplace peer to hold themselves to account.
If you're a borrower, the onus is on you to express the terms of repayment if your lender (friend, family, colleague, etc.) is being courteous of not demanding it back. "Hey, I know I still owe you $$. I'll be able to pay you back in 2 months" or something along those lines.

From now on if anybody wanna borrow from me I'm making them text me the dollar amount and date when they'll pay it back that way we can avoid the confusion of them "forgetting" cause mfkas get real forgetful when it's time to pay me.

I lost 4,000$ due to an internet 'friend'. I told her I was saving for a car, and now I can't buy one.

That’s crazy. Are you sure it was a “friend”? Sounds more like scammer.

Note to self; never give money to someone you don't know. Life lessons for me, I guess.

Usually they have no dime, so they expect you to lend them for free. Expensive housing, bad alcohol habits etc.
I personally would help a friend with money issues paying a trip tickets for example only if he pays his food and half the hotel. If no, then no.

Reading your comment makes me feel triggered. I literally just came back from a trip where I helped a job seeker land 11 job interviews, and then she crashed my car on the way home. So irresponsible. Her husband can't afford to pay rent or feed their 4 kids, yet he had $75 to spend on fireworks.
