That’s a weak point for Tesla unfortunately. But I think they’re at the right track with the Cybertruck although it looks ugly. But, you don’t need to worry about mice and rodents since everything is covered up. So you don’t have wires hanging around an inefficient, noisy and harmful for the environment Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). It will also cost you a lot to maintain it and to fill it up with gas. Another point is the waiting line that you should go through at a gas station while you could just charge your Tesla overnight and always wake up with a full charge. It’s really unfortunate seeing how biased you are. And that’s of course since your job depends on having those ICE cars on the streets. Especially seeing your honest advices on cars which gives you credibility and more customers in turn.

And regarding the maintenance of Tesla. There is literally nothing to do except for changing tires. No coolant, oil nor many other parts to look for. In terms of accidents, well yes it costs a lot to repair but having a good insurance will do it for you. Despite it being expensive but what you’ve saved more than what you pay. And it also being considered the safest car in the world. I really appreciate what Tesla is doing for America and the world.

I have also noticed the added benefit of the outward curve of the normal tire sidewall will keep your rim edge from damage if you scuff a curb or roll over one while turning. The rounded profile of the sidewall sticks out beyond the edge of the rim. I have 20+ year old polished aluminum rims I run on my 2000 Buick that look brand new even after potholes, scuffs, bumps, and curb rolls. I have always used standard tires and they get the abuse not the expensive rims. Scotty is so on the money here. People in my age bracket (almost as old as Scotty) remember when 70 series was considered low profile, 65 didn't exist yet, 60 was for the cool kids, and 50 was for showing you were a total gearhead. Likewise, 13 inch wheels were considered small, 14 inch medium, and 15 inch large.
I removed the tires from my car when it was brand new, and put taller tires on, for added ground clearance, improved impact protection, and more load index safety margin. The tires last longer too, because they're expecting the weight of a minivan but only carrying the weight of a Prius Prime.

I wonder how well they still sell. There were a few years I could guess with about 80% accuracy that any car in the side of the road was one with low profile tires.

Racing is actually shifting to low profile tires, funnily enough it’s because they want the cars to look closer to consumer rides so they can get more attention and sales probably, even formula 1 is running on 18 inch wheels now

Go even further, fit a smaller diameter wheel (As long as it clears the brake caliper) and get some taller tyres to get back to the same overall diameter,or very close

not to mention just how expensive low profile tires are I work at a tire shop and the cheapest I can get them is normally 150 +, With normal tires I can get some of my cheapest at 60+, of course its not a great tire, but size matters.

Got a question for your Scotty. I’ve seen you do segments on oil and oil changes. I have a Ford F350 that takes synthetic blend and I go by percentage on the oil life. I only drive this vehicle maybe 3000-4000 miles a year but with that short mileage my percentage goes down. So instead of changing my oil every 5000, it has me changing it every 3000 with a synthetic blend motor oil. Should I just reset my percentage and not change the oil that soon?

With the technical advancements in modern tires even the older 75, 70, 65, 60, and 55 aspect ratio tire sizes provide significantly increased dry traction and wet traction. Try a set of high quality tires in those sizes, that fit your car and its existing wheels, before you decide to get bigger wheels with 50, 45, 40, 35, or 30 aspect ratio tires.

Better yet, steel rims can be bent back with a basic hammer, while aluminum rims crack. Funny enough that the cheap option of hubcaps and steelies, are the best for longevity.

So far the wife and I have avoided any wheels larger than 17” on our cars. It often means you have to buy the lower trim model. But with the 17”ers on my Mazda 6 and the 16”ers on my wife’s Camry, we have over 200,000 miles without pothole damage to a wheel or tire. I will not buy something with 18” or 19” wheels.

Sometimes they are the wheels put on the base/value version of the model car. Base/Value/Economy versions of Camrys, Altimas, Corollas, etcetera usually come with black paint steel wheels with the highest aspect ratio tires. Look for Base/Value/Economy in the parts catalogs like Rock Auto.
