I was born and raised in Detroit decades ago and taught by my dad that a car is basically like a screwdriver- merely a tool one uses to go from point A to point B and back again. He taught me that if you cant pay cash for the car you want, then you cannot afford the car you want, it's that simple. You dont take out a loan to buy a screwdriver so why would you take out a loan to buy any other tool?

Yep bought a car way over the price it was worth but the problems with it aren't huge and ain't nothing I can't do. So whatever I guess. We didn't have a check engine light and didn't for a few days. Then it popped on and it was a $2 hose and an abs module. Which are easy fixes. Had to get new breaks and front rotars and I'll need shocks and end tire rods in the front. But the car has 200,000 miles it's a Toyota and it still has many more miles to go. I know enough about cars to know the engine was well cared for. Also it came with new tires. transmission fluid was nice and red and drive well. Also no signs of bad head gasket. Which in this Toyota would be a job but easier than the Mazda we had before.

The other problem with cleared codes is that it stops throwing codes once you get the misfire, fuel, and sensor position codes. You could have EGR and Evap codes waiting to fail once the other problems are solved. That's why you can't give a definite price to keep the check engine light off.

Hey Scotty love your videos! I watch all the time :)
In my 07’ Toyota, I am aware of the burning oil issue, I have noticed about 1 qt between every 3000 miles (when I get the oil changed) Would you consider the engine worn, or simply the piston and piston ring issue is the only cause? 111K miles. How long in your opinion would perfect maintenance allow the Camry to last?
Also, my check engine light came on for the catalytic converter. Would this be because of the engine burning oil? I live in Kentucky so it’s not required I fix it, but I sure hate seeing that light on :)
Thank you for reading and helping! Stay strong safe and healthy!

    • @Mr371312
