@@tomjohns5146 Too early to tell. One is made in Turkey the other in the USA. I would always tend to try and get something made by Toyota Japan if possible, especially on a new model / new series. Maybe wait or look at something else if desperate for a new car.

2007 5.7L SR5 here with 300,000 miles, runs great, a lot of power, everything works except the the TPMS monitors because I threw them away about 4 years ago. I have replaced a few wear and tear items, and upgraded a few things along the way. 0 to 60 in 6 seconds with the traction control turned off is impressive for a 5000 pound truck with 300,000 miles... I love this old Tundra.
That is awesome. But why does the 2007 have a bad track record. If you look on different apps you'll see that the majority for sale are 2007. Should I hesitate to buy it? Or take a chance on buying something that seems to be the year not to buy?
@@RD-xh9ss A thorough inspection is mandatory, and the rule of thumb of never buying the first year of any model applies to the original buyer buying factory new, not used. My particular '07 came with zero maintenance records for the first 270,000 miles, I took a chance and paid $5,000 for the truck. The fuel pump and chipped key failed within the first month, but it's been smooth sailing since then.
@@RD-xh9ss I had my 2007 Tundra CrewMax Limited for 13 years with almost 200k mikes, but a big oak tree fell on it back on Memorial Day 2020 and totaled it. It was such an awesome truck and was super reliable. I’d still be driving it today if that tree hadn’t fell on it. I replaced it with a 2020 Tundra Platinum 4x4 and I love it. Buying any used truck without knowing how well it has been maintained can be a little risky.
Love my 07 Tundra. Bought it new in July of 07 - never a problem. I was supposed to sell my 03 Tundra when I got the 07 but I just couldn’t do it. Bought it new in November 03 - never a problem with that truck either. It’s a good thing I love these trucks so much because there is nothing about the 2022 Tundras I like. It’s an overly complex plastic piece of crap in my book.
I bought a new 2021 Tundra last year to ensure I got a normally aspirated V-8 before they went to the V-6. Got the 1794 Edition in metallic grey. I now have 10600 miles and no problems totally reliable--the reason I bought the Toyota. I change the oil every 5000 miles and will change all the other fluids per the schedule. This is my second Tundra I bought a 2000 new back in the day and sold it. I had a 2016 RAM Eco diesel nothing but problems and recalls-a piece of crap. My son has a 2000 Tundra with 300,000 plus miles. He was a vehicle mechanic in the Army so he does all his own work. He convinced me to go back to Toyota and I am one happy camper. This truck will be my last vehicle and it will be well maintained. Love your expert advice keep your channel going.
2016 Tundra 1794 here and absolutely love it! Every time I get in it I still get excited. I’d definitely buy a new one if they still had the V8, but no way I’ll ever buy one of those new V6’s. Thank you Toyota! 👏👏👏
My 2003 4.7L Tundra got 375,000 trouble free miles and I got a 1995 Toyota HiAce 2.8L diesel camper van last month directly from Japan with 130,000 miles. Nothing beats a Toyota!
I think Toyota still operates like that, but those new emissions and fuel mileage requirements are impossible to meet otherwise. We can "thank" government for that.
It makes you wonder how many people that watch Scotty have actually went out and bought a Toyota. Toyota should probably give this man stock in the company.
I traded my 2018 Ram EcoDiesel this summer for one of the last Toyota Tundras with a V8. Couldn’t be happier! Yes- the eco diesel did better on fuel….when it was running. But a blown motor at 50,000 miles and multiple other problems made me get a Toyota and not look back!
@@ONeal397 Ram replaced 2 EGR coolers under warranty. Then at about 50,000 miles we lost oil pressure, had the truck towed once again to the dealer and that time large amounts of metal were in the oil. So they replaced the entire motor. While our truck was in the shop, my friends 2016 eco-diesel caught on fire and burned to the ground before the fire department arrived. That truck had EGR cooler issues as well. Long story short- not a fan of Fiat Chrysler products, especially “Eco-Diesel” engines.
I love my 2006 Tundra (138k). 2nd owner and changed the timing belt around 125k since there was no indication that it had been changed in the past. Runs great and has a 2014 frame installed by prior owner. Had my garage guys go over it before buying. They couldn't believe the shape it was in. My 3rd Toyota truck in the past 50 years!
Own 07 Tundra the stater stopped working at 275k. Everyone was taking half the engine off to replace it . I disconnected the started from the mounts, took off the solenoid than dropped the starter down and out. Installed new starter in reverse. Worked great. Didn't need to remove half the left side of the engine. 282k still going down the road..............
My 07 sequoia with only 125k miles is still running with no problems. I love Toyota legendary reliability. Hopefully the suv will last into the next decade
I live in Ontario Canada and own a since new 2010 Tundra Platinum as well (same as that one except without the rear DVD). Only around 80,000Km, and original battery (I tested it last week and still says good). The only problems I have had is a very recent front bumper parking sensor error (will look at that when things warm up this spring) and an emission error (evap leak). Since we no longer need to have our vehicles tested annually, I just re-set the evap error code every 5 or 6 drive cycles…been doing this for 5 years and drives fine (replaced fuel cap, but still error’s). Local dealer where I purchased the truck was very bad…forgot the oil filler cap once, broke the front brake caliper bleeder valve (at the 2 year service) and insisted on charging me for a caliper re-build, then the brakes never felt the same. Fast forward to a few years ago and I finally got smart and went to another dealer. They replaced the entire brakes (new Toyota calipers, rotors, pads and flushed the fluid)…drives and stops like new again and will use this dealer from now on! I’m getting on in age, and I think this truck may outlast me.
I’m shocked )) that Ontario got rid of those smoke inspections where they put that stick up in the cars arse.. (exhausted pipe) . They were doing that yet in 90s.

Just trade-in my 2017 Tundra 1794-edition for the 2013 Tundra SR5 5.7L 2X4 last month and cash out some money for paying half of my credit card debts. Good to know Scotty agrees with my choice of the 2013 Tundra too.
Change front and rear diff fluid transfer case fluid coolant flush and transmission fluid change, brake fluid change. Change spRk plugs keep it forever💯👌
Great motor and great truck. Nissan Titans 5.6 from 2013 is the same. Reliable. Mine has 225,000 miles. ( lots of hwy driving). Was thinking of getting rid of it do to the mpgs but my buddy talked me out of it. He said , what are you going to get. It’s got all leather seats , pro 4 x and paid for years ago. Owes you nothing. Drive on and yeah.. put a few bucks into it here and there. It will be fine for another 100,000 Miles. Good V8 S are tough to beat for longevity. Gas is expensive but so are vehicle payments

I was picking up the TPMS alarm in my Honda Ridgeline. When it got cold I noticed it was turning over kinda slow so I tested it and the 700 CCA battery was putting out 285 CCA. The new battery solved the TPMS problem, of course. And yes Scotty, I put new batteries in the pressure monitors 2 years ago when they started failing. I know they cost a lot but when they don't work, neither does traction control. It snows here.
I use Nissan Titans for my construction business (2005, 2008, 2019) since 2010. 2019 was brand new when I bought it, all my trucks running strong towing all the time 0 issue. VK56 is an amazing engine, it can last you forever if you just do a regular oil change.

I've fixed so many rough running cars with CE lights whose owners didn't know what the problem was by replacing the battery, terminals and cables. The stock ground cables on so many cars are a joke to begin with. Replacing them along with adding an AGM battery will do wonders.
i have had them all in different years ......GM ,FORD,DODGE ....havent had a nissan but doesnt matter because i have become a tundra convert......best truck i have ever owned.....yes i know it doesnt have the latest and greatest.....but it does dependability and reliability and thats what counts
Just bought a 2016 trd pro tundra from dealership. Didn't have a separate mechanic run scanner tool. Fingers crossed. Everything seems fine on it. Has 41000 miles.
Love Scotty's videos! Always learn something new from him. Have the 2014 - Sure is a great truck! Have some gripes (would happily have traded some of the back seat legroom for a longer box and more payload, not to mention the under-seat storage is nil - literally filled with foam) but the fact that they wouldn't replace the cam tower and timing cover FIPG on their dime (manufacturing defect, honestly) - with less than 100000 miles on it - that takes them down a notch in my books. Almost a 5K CDN touch to have that resolved. Ouch!

I’ve noticed VW and Audi have done one thing right.. instead of using those stupid battery sensors as TPMS they just use the wheel speed sensors to measure the rotation of the tires because if one goes flat that wheel will be rotating faster. Seems to be just as accurate in my experience and is pretty fail proof, though it limits being able to see the pressure of each tire. I don’t know why other automakers don’t adapt to this technology.
I bought lots of new parts for my 2006 Chevy Malibu 2.2L. One part that I'm especially happy with are my KYB front struts. You're right, Scotty. The other aftermarket struts are junk by comparison. 👍🏽
These 5.7L thundra man, I had a friend who works at a mechanic shop and he had a 2015 thundra with 250K, still humming along like he bought it yesterday.
If I was him I'd keep it especially with the bone head move toyota made with tossing the v8 in the new tundra. They are going to lose a lot of customers. If it was mine I'd send it out for a major detail inside and out, change the battery and it'll be like a new vehicle.

Toyota dealers told the company not to bother shipping the Tundras to America if they aren't a V8 back in 1999. Guess they figure the dealers will take them now.
They should at least give customers the option to opt for one as a custom order or something I mean they literally assemble these things in minutes on a robotic assembly line it can’t be that hard
I had a 2011 GMC 3500 duramax that I used for 6 years for my business towing a heavy Sprayfoam trailer. Last summer I sold my business and decided to sell my duramax and get a half ton. I saw a 2007 Toyota Tundra with 260 000km on Kijiji and I bought it ...I like it a lot! I'll drive it till the wheels fall off!
They're great trucks! I have 2016 TRD Pro and have had no problems. A lot of people don't realize that they're engineered in America and built in America with 74% American parts.
My dad had a Silverado and the transmission blew up at 87k miles 😂😂 so he got a 2021 Tundra and he loves it, sadly it’s the last tundra with the v8 engine
Should he sell/trade it? Only if it's for a newer Toyota. He should keep it though. Those trucks hold their value as long as they are maintained. He should consider getting a sedan for better gas mileage and using the truck when he needs to. Run the engine once a week to keep the system well running and to charge the battery for what little is used on the system throughout the week. Just idle for a few minutes and then turn it off.
Scotty give me a old c10 straight 6 with a stick and no options. I would just upgrade to a hei so no more points. Not much to fail on that truck. It's a real truck and not all fancied up
Got a Tundra 2010 dcab 4x4 with 232,000 miles. Got an exhaust manifold leak that I havent been able to fix but has run great regardless. Throught the years it has outlasted our Chevy Malibu and my mom's Dodge GCaravan which is the same year but only 100k miles and already needs new transmission.
.....💲🍻🇺🇸.....Old school Tundras like these w the classic 5.7 L iForce V8 engines which run for a long time will probably appreciate in value for truck buyers & collectors vs the new recent V6 turbo that has come out most folks are skeptical of due to lesser reliability.....
About that Ford Ranger fan. I had a 1991 Ranger in Yuma Arizona, where it is dang hot. The fan had a lot of cracks, and a mechanic said that they would brake, and tear things up under the hood. I bought an electric fan kit for less than the replacement fan. I used the thermostat that was included with the kit, and I added a switch on the dash to manually turn the fan on. If I felt like it, I could have wired in a relay to turn the fan on when the AC compressor was on, but I would just use the switch to turn the fan on when I had the AC on. It never ran hot, and I didn't have to worry about the plastic fan flying apart and wrecking the radiator. If it will keep the engine cool in Yuma, it will keep one cool in Saudi Arabia.
When I get on the gas around town, my mileage drops from 18 mpg to 13mpg in my Crown Vic, but "OH" the fun. I have the same Innova scanner Scotty is using, it's a great $400 scanner. I lucked out and got mine on sale for $299. 😲😲😲
I have 350k on my 99 silverado. The truck was definitely beat by it previous owner. The truck looked like it rolled over. I cleaned it up. I love the truck. I slammed it and converted the 5 speed to a t56 six speed.
1AAuto actually makes quality struts for older cars. I bought front struts for my 1999 Camry LE for around 200$ for the pair and im actually surprised of the quality!

My 08 5.4 F150 had equal power with 144k, but it was a freight truck. Used for work. And that wasn’t enough power to qualify for a real truck. With a sufficient trailer hooked up, it was weak.

Hi Scotty. Do you ever use the JIS Philips screwdrivers for working on your Japanese vehicles? I’ve got a 94 Toyota pickup. I’ve messed up so many Japanese Philips screws with my U.S. Philips screwdrivers. Hopefully no more. I ordered some Vessel (made in Japan) JIS #1 and #2 and #3. I’d never figured out why my craftsman ph2 always damaged the Japanese screws on my truck and Lexus and other Japanese stuff. The difference is night and day. US Philips screwdrivers have a cam designed on them to torque out to prevent breaking screws when tightening or loosening them. The JIS actually fully go in to and grip the same damaged screw and torques it or removes it. I wish someone had told me on my first day working on Japanese vehicles. The amazing thing is the JIS also works better on the U.S. than the U.S. in my opinion. I can not count the years I spent cursing the Japanese screws.

That 5.7 liter Toyota V8 engine is legendary for its reliability. Proud owner of one in our Sequoia. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Runs great and has a 2014 frame installed by prior owner. Had my garage guys go over it before buying. They couldn't believe the shape it was in. My 3rd Toyota truck in the past 50 years!

The Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L I-Force V8 is one reliable and dependable beast and it'll definitely outlast any EcoBoost truck out there.
I have an ecoboost...and I'm getting a Tundra. Eco was a pile of steaming poo.
2001 Toyota Tacoma over 350k. No problems, only change the alternator bc the old owner had it sitting for over a yr.
Own 07 Tundra the stater stopped working at 275k. Everyone was taking half the engine off to replace it . I disconnected the started from the mounts, took off the solenoid than dropped the starter down and out. Installed new starter in reverse. Worked great. Didn't need to remove half the left side of the engine. 282k still going down the road..............

These are absolute tanks. I have a 2008 that has almost 300K miles. Still works like a dream and is in great shape.
My 07 sequoia with only 125k miles is still running with no problems. I love Toyota legendary reliability. Hopefully the suv will last into the next decade
I concur with Scotty. My 08 trd 5.7 sr5 has 170k. No real issues other than wear and tear.

Gas mileage and cost of parts
I live in Ontario Canada and own a since new 2010 Tundra Platinum as well (same as that one except without the rear DVD). Only around 80,000Km, and original battery (I tested it last week and still says good). The only problems I have had is a very recent front bumper parking sensor error (will look at that when things warm up this spring) and an emission error (evap leak). Since we no longer need to have our vehicles tested annually, I just re-set the evap error code every 5 or 6 drive cycles…been doing this for 5 years and drives fine (replaced fuel cap, but still error’s). Local dealer where I purchased the truck was very bad…forgot the oil filler cap once, broke the front brake caliper bleeder valve (at the 2 year service) and insisted on charging me for a caliper re-build, then the brakes never felt the same. Fast forward to a few years ago and I finally got smart and went to another dealer. They replaced the entire brakes (new Toyota calipers, rotors, pads and flushed the fluid)…drives and stops like new again and will use this dealer from now on! I’m getting on in age, and I think this truck may outlast me.
I’m shocked )) that Ontario got rid of those smoke inspections where they put that stick up in the cars arse.. (exhausted pipe) . They were doing that yet in 90s.
I have a 2020 TRD OR. Sure is fine to drive.

Just trade-in my 2017 Tundra 1794-edition for the 2013 Tundra SR5 5.7L 2X4 last month and cash out some money for paying half of my credit card debts. Good to know Scotty agrees with my choice of the 2013 Tundra too.

Change front and rear diff fluid transfer case fluid coolant flush and transmission fluid change, brake fluid change. Change spRk plugs keep it forever💯👌
Great motor and great truck. Nissan Titans 5.6 from 2013 is the same. Reliable. Mine has 225,000 miles. ( lots of hwy driving). Was thinking of getting rid of it do to the mpgs but my buddy talked me out of it. He said , what are you going to get. It’s got all leather seats , pro 4 x and paid for years ago. Owes you nothing. Drive on and yeah.. put a few bucks into it here and there. It will be fine for another 100,000 Miles. Good V8 S are tough to beat for longevity. Gas is expensive but so are vehicle payments

I was picking up the TPMS alarm in my Honda Ridgeline. When it got cold I noticed it was turning over kinda slow so I tested it and the 700 CCA battery was putting out 285 CCA. The new battery solved the TPMS problem, of course.
And yes Scotty, I put new batteries in the pressure monitors 2 years ago when they started failing. I know they cost a lot but when they don't work, neither does traction control. It snows here.
I use Nissan Titans for my construction business (2005, 2008, 2019) since 2010. 2019 was brand new when I bought it, all my trucks running strong towing all the time 0 issue. VK56 is an amazing engine, it can last you forever if you just do a regular oil change.

I've fixed so many rough running cars with CE lights whose owners didn't know what the problem was by replacing the battery, terminals and cables. The stock ground cables on so many cars are a joke to begin with. Replacing them along with adding an AGM battery will do wonders.

Just bought a 2016 trd pro tundra from dealership. Didn't have a separate mechanic run scanner tool. Fingers crossed. Everything seems fine on it. Has 41000 miles.

Have the 2014 - Sure is a great truck! Have some gripes (would happily have traded some of the back seat legroom for a longer box and more payload, not to mention the under-seat storage is nil - literally filled with foam) but the fact that they wouldn't replace the cam tower and timing cover FIPG on their dime (manufacturing defect, honestly) - with less than 100000 miles on it - that takes them down a notch in my books. Almost a 5K CDN touch to have that resolved. Ouch!

I’ve noticed VW and Audi have done one thing right.. instead of using those stupid battery sensors as TPMS they just use the wheel speed sensors to measure the rotation of the tires because if one goes flat that wheel will be rotating faster. Seems to be just as accurate in my experience and is pretty fail proof, though it limits being able to see the pressure of each tire. I don’t know why other automakers don’t adapt to this technology.
I bought lots of new parts for my 2006 Chevy Malibu 2.2L. One part that I'm especially happy with are my KYB front struts. You're right, Scotty. The other aftermarket struts are junk by comparison. 👍🏽

These 5.7L thundra man, I had a friend who works at a mechanic shop and he had a 2015 thundra with 250K, still humming along like he bought it yesterday.
If I was him I'd keep it especially with the bone head move toyota made with tossing the v8 in the new tundra. They are going to lose a lot of customers. If it was mine I'd send it out for a major detail inside and out, change the battery and it'll be like a new vehicle.
Love Toyota and Lexus I have a 2011 Fj Cruiser also had a 2001 Rav 4, Lexus IS350 zero problems with Toyota.

Toyota dealers told the company not to bother shipping the Tundras to America if they aren't a V8 back in 1999. Guess they figure the dealers will take them now.
Yes, every truck should have a v8, bench seat and column shift. Anything less is made for a soccer mom.
They should at least give customers the option to opt for one as a custom order or something I mean they literally assemble these things in minutes on a robotic assembly line it can’t be that hard

I had a 2011 GMC 3500 duramax that I used for 6 years for my business towing a heavy Sprayfoam trailer. Last summer I sold my business and decided to sell my duramax and get a half ton. I saw a 2007 Toyota Tundra with 260 000km on Kijiji and I bought it ...I like it a lot! I'll drive it till the wheels fall off!
They're great trucks! I have 2016 TRD Pro and have had no problems. A lot of people don't realize that they're engineered in America and built in America with 74% American parts.
My dad had a Silverado and the transmission blew up at 87k miles 😂😂 so he got a 2021 Tundra and he loves it, sadly it’s the last tundra with the v8 engine

Should he sell/trade it? Only if it's for a newer Toyota. He should keep it though. Those trucks hold their value as long as they are maintained. He should consider getting a sedan for better gas mileage and using the truck when he needs to. Run the engine once a week to keep the system well running and to charge the battery for what little is used on the system throughout the week. Just idle for a few minutes and then turn it off.
Scotty give me a old c10 straight 6 with a stick and no options. I would just upgrade to a hei so no more points. Not much to fail on that truck. It's a real truck and not all fancied up

Got a Tundra 2010 dcab 4x4 with 232,000 miles. Got an exhaust manifold leak that I havent been able to fix but has run great regardless. Throught the years it has outlasted our Chevy Malibu and my mom's Dodge GCaravan which is the same year but only 100k miles and already needs new transmission.

About that Ford Ranger fan. I had a 1991 Ranger in Yuma Arizona, where it is dang hot. The fan had a lot of cracks, and a mechanic said that they would brake, and tear things up under the hood. I bought an electric fan kit for less than the replacement fan. I used the thermostat that was included with the kit, and I added a switch on the dash to manually turn the fan on. If I felt like it, I could have wired in a relay to turn the fan on when the AC compressor was on, but I would just use the switch to turn the fan on when I had the AC on. It never ran hot, and I didn't have to worry about the plastic fan flying apart and wrecking the radiator. If it will keep the engine cool in Yuma, it will keep one cool in Saudi Arabia.

I have 350k on my 99 silverado. The truck was definitely beat by it previous owner. The truck looked like it rolled over. I cleaned it up. I love the truck. I slammed it and converted the 5 speed to a t56 six speed.

My 2017 SR5 just hit 100k, a couple of issues with it covered by warranty, I’ll never own a Dodge or a Ford again.
The only reason to change is if it's way more truck than he needs, and he wants to get a smaller truck with better mpg.

My 08 5.4 F150 had equal power with 144k, but it was a freight truck. Used for work. And that wasn’t enough power to qualify for a real truck. With a sufficient trailer hooked up, it was weak.
I would love it I recently just bought a Acura TL but the dealer did not let me know It had frame damage in I would love to buy it I learned from you Mr Scotty Toyota is the way to go plus I need a truck to move to another state soon in plus it’s just the smart thing to do 💪🏽
Hi Scotty. Do you ever use the JIS Philips screwdrivers for working on your Japanese vehicles? I’ve got a 94 Toyota pickup. I’ve messed up so many Japanese Philips screws with my U.S. Philips screwdrivers. Hopefully no more. I ordered some Vessel (made in Japan) JIS #1 and #2 and #3. I’d never figured out why my craftsman ph2 always damaged the Japanese screws on my truck and Lexus and other Japanese stuff. The difference is night and day.
US Philips screwdrivers have a cam designed on them to torque out to prevent breaking screws when tightening or loosening them. The JIS actually fully go in to and grip the same damaged screw and torques it or removes it. I wish someone had told me on my first day working on Japanese vehicles. The amazing thing is the JIS also works better on the U.S. than the U.S. in my opinion. I can not count the years I spent cursing the Japanese screws.
