I actually drive a 90 chevy lumina 2door coupe with the 3.1. Car runs and drives like new. I've been driving it for around 14 yrs now it only has 109000. On the odometer. My only complaint it the stupid idea of putting the ignition module and coils under the left bank exhaust manifold. I've replaced it many times . He'll I think I can do it in my sleep lol. I'm gonna drive the wheels off this car. My friend has the Buick of the same car and he has 437000 miles on the odometer still goin strong. Long live chevy

I bought a 1993 Ford Explorer for $500 6 months ago with 365,000 miles on the odometer and it was abused by it’s previous owner and sat for a year. The starter motor bolts backed out because of a huge oily mess on the undercarriage and caused the starter to not spin the flywheel when I turned the key. It also had a major misfire issue because the spark plugs were rusted and covered in black oil. The oil also looked like it hadn’t been changed in a long time and the oil filter was loose while taking it off. But after I changed the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter, the engine runs like a dream. It hasn’t had any problems since I fixed those issues. She’s a strong old girl.

If you live where I do and they salt the roads in the winter the pre 1992- 1996 models were prone to rust away. The newer ones post 2008-2012 have very complex computers and transmissions that re more prone to failure and are hard to repair. The mid 1990s up untill about 2012 seem to be the sweet spot. If only rust wasn't such a colossal problem with older cars....
Other than that, newer will always equal worse & there's no changing that ever. Regulations & insane profit margins have sealed that deal.
Up til 2010ish is the STRONG cutoff imo. Just enough computer to help with diagnosis & efficiency all around, yet still serviceable & still analog enough for where it counts. And less chance for unobtainable parts.

@@pillowbugg As much as any other car - any car driven by a russian is more prone to accident. Lada's are structurally tougher than any 90s or newer car, and even safer for the type of roads we drive in - i just saw a Mercedes who's front wheel was tilted 45 degrees to the outside, probably after he entered a random pothhole. Infact where i live, you're more accident prone if you drive a western car.

Hell, some dude with a Lada in my country got hit by a woman with a 90s Opel Corsa - the Corsa was smashed in pieces, while the Lada came back 100 miles home, with just a slightly cracked radiator. lol

It's no wonder America can't compete in the world today, and everything is made in China, the unions make way too much money!
