    I have had my Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor for a week and done 1,300 miles. So far it's brilliant. On a motorway journey of 560 miles over two days, at a constant (or as close as you can do ) 70mph at 12 degs C it consumed an average of 29kWh/100 mile. (290 Wh/mile, or 3.4 miles per kWh, or 180 Wh per kilometre) Which gives a theoretical motorway range of over 250 miles. I was very surprised and pleased. Recharged at Rugby M6 Moto Services in the UK in 30 mins or less from late 20s% to 85%. I ended up charging more than I needed. 15 mins on the return would have been enough. The phone app is a bit iffy in areas with poor internet coverage, otherwise it seems to work OK. I didn't get any of the packs - nothing I really wanted. However the base spec stereo is amazingly good.

    For anyone thinking "32+ kWh sounds really high!" remember it's per 100 MILES. So for anyone using per 100 KILOMETERS that's 20.5 kWh / 100 km instead. That's pretty good.

    Eco or sports mode doesn’t mean anything to electric drivetrains. There is the battery and the electric motors and they work as they work. That’s it. With an IC car the transmission has variability as does the introduction of fuel to the motor. My old Jaguar i pace claimed to have differing drive modes but all it did (and could do) was to increase/decrease the amount of throttle movement required for acceleration. I.e. it just made the throttle squidgy, without changing the car at all.

    Try holding your wrist against the gear knob when you want to use the touch screen. The knob is placed, and angled, right there in order to counteract shaking in the car when you need to use the screen. Easy as pie, can not fail.

    Brilliant user review and honestly has satisfied my mind prior to ordering a Polestar 2. Difficulty in having a test drive means i've ordered blind so your channel has been a blessing! I know of 2 other people at least through reddit that have done the exact same and reffered me to your channel!

    I agree, you are right about the nice smooth gentle accelerator pedal response, I love it. It sold me the car. I notice smaller and cheaper cars often have greater acceleration for minor pedal press, probably to make them feel powerful, but it makes fine control difficult and jerky.

    I'm British but live in the US. I am shortly about to swap my BMW 330i with a Polestar (fulled optioned), and I just wanted to let you know how much I've appreciated your videos as I prepare to switch to my first EV after many years with BMW (I looked at the two i4's and at least on paper and in a short test drive, the Polestar won out). Your take on the Polestar is so practical, and above all you've shown me what works, what doesn't, and how to manage my expectations for a really young, beautifully designed car that still has teething issues, but has so many EV strengths. I'll be relying on your videos to maximize the car's potential and to work my way around the glitches!

    Polestar loaned me an xc90 while Volvo dealer fixed my alarm fault. First time I’ve driven a Volvo for a long time. Nice but so pleased to slip back into my Polestar 2. All the controls are marked similarly but Polestar does it so well in a minimalist way that’s really satisfying.

    What model is this? I'm thinking of long term leasing a POLESTAR 2
    200kW 69kWh Standard Range Single Motor 5dr Auto with maintenance included. Test drove the 82kWh today and loved it so interested to know what you think of the different specs and if leasing with maintenance is a good idea. Personally, I want a fixed cost every month and not have to worry about any undue service costs.

    I’m in Ireland and Polestar only coming to these shores now. I drove a long range dual motor today. I found the build quality to be excellent, loved the driving position compared to my 320d estate and the Harmon Kardon sound system was next level. I managed to find my way around the android system also. But the power was breathtaking. I was howling when I only half floored it. Only issue with all this is the price. So I’m going to have to do some serious thinking. Some preconfigured cars coming in next few weeks, so basically I need to make my mind up. Love the way it looks also. But potentially a marmite car in that respect

    I recently got to do a decent drive in a polestar 2 and I remember being slightly annoyed by the center console getting in the way of my knee and you saying that it is fine and you simply rest your knee against it. But then I understood what it was. You guys have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car which means the power pedal is on the door side while in the rest of the world it's the opposite. So I can't rest my knee against the center console because I have to move the power pedal.
    That is unless you have the pedals reversed as well but I don't think you do.
    Other than that I really liked the car. Nice and quiet, fantastic headlights, good seats.

    I get 15.5 kWh / 100 km in my Tesla Model 3
    Test drove Polestar prior to Model Y purchase that has double the room and better visibility and better looks. S. Handling is close but Y seems more natural and smoother powertrain but close. No full time camera recording is problematic since people still attack EVs. Polestar did seem a lot quieter although I was able to reduce the sound level in my tesla by 50% buy an aftermarket weatherstrip kit which Hass to be installed carefully noting that most of the instructions encourage you to install it so there’s a gap between the weatherstrip and the door frame. Check the gaps by closing the door onto a business card to make sure at grips.
    I don’t understand wanting to reduce regen from maximum because I use the accelerator in the variable braking mode at the top of the travel so I am always braking by adjusting the regen until I come to a final stop. Reducing my regen would be like eliminating most of my braking power.
    Happy to see almost equal alternatives to Tesla. Polestar makes some good choices. Great to have option of metal roof. Glass is useless.

    Thank you for your efforts to put these videos; they have been very helpful as I navigate through the issues. On that note, I a am a new model 2 owner and live in NE US. Out of no where, the internet connection (and gps) stopped working the day before. Multiple times so far, I restarted the screen, turned on / of the mobile data option but none of these worked. I attempted to have the car join different wifis that were ~2 feet away but car won't see the wifis. I thought it may be due to Verizon service issue and moved the car to a high population areas where my personal phones had full bar 4g network but car still didnt have internet. It is incredibly annoying. Does anyone think of any other recommended step I can take other than taking the car back to dealer?

    Agree. Really nice walk-through! Many thanks! You seem to be very good balanced in your opinions.
    Could you elaborate on your everyday charging scheme, how much do you normally charge the car? Charging at home or at a super charger station? Does the charging need much planning or is it like as you charge your phone over night and then don't need to think more about it? And what about any preparations needed in the mornings, such as time for pre-heating batteries or similar? Is there any heater (timer) in the car which enables that the car is warm when you are about to drive? What would you say are the biggest drawbacks compared to owning e.g. a diesel car?

    • @CKMan88
      @CKMan88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The car has the option to set a pre-heating schedule both in the car and on an app on your phone which synchronise with your car. It does indeed allow you to set a set time to heat the car so it's warmed when you plan to drive in the morning.
      The Polestar 2 recently received a new firmware 1.8.
      This added preheating both the interior and battery to improve range.
      Also with the 1.8 update is the introduction to set a timer when to start charging the car, the main benefit to timed charging is if you have a cheap off peak electricity tariff so your car takes advantage of the off peak period.
      The timed charging schedule is available in the car and on the phone app.

  • @1kreature
    @1kreature 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just wish they'd fix the fast charging. My "short stops" on longer hauls are 40-50 minute long when they needed to be 20 due to the average charging speed in the 20-70% range being horrible vs the advertised (as of when I ordered the car) 150kW.

    • @mxs8102
      @mxs8102 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the latest OTA update?…. Plenty of youtubers proving otherwise, and getting rather 30ish minutes for 20-80% charging.

    • @_TrueDesire_
      @_TrueDesire_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      with latest update? are you setting the DC charger as destination? if you have the latest firmware and navigate to a DC charger you should see 120-150 kW without any issues.

    Some good feedback at least.
    I find too many car reviews are just a clone of Jeramy Clarkson and POWER! HANDINGLY! SPEED!
    They talk about boot space only as a metric and features as a bullet point rather than a walk through on exactly how that works.
    E.g. looking at electric for my next motor, but I have a LOT of equipment I take to jobs, unusual bags and cases 1.2 - 1.4 meters long. So you get a narrow boot opening and a lip between the boot floor and seats folded down?
    Then you're snookered.
    On a bumpy road and need to adjust anything?
    Best of luck on a screen with small icons.
    Long journey?
    How about cramp from limited floor space in the drivers seat?
    On that I would really like more to also cover steering wheel placement. IMO it should be nowhere near my knees yet far too many cars theres so little adjustment thats what you get.

    Very nice review and couldn't agree more. I have done about 17000km (about 10.600mls) and consider this to be the best car I have ever driven. And through the OTA updates, it keeps improving! A lot has changed for the better since I first got this car. There's still some room for improvement however, about stuff you didn't talk about (perhaps in part 2). First the passive safety features (lane keeping, collision warnings, etc): this is often way too intrusive, the car intervenes too much and more often than not for no reason. It sometimes seems to detect things that aren't there, and sometimes it makes it more dangerous than it actually is. One example is when you back out on a slightly sloped driveway, it thinks you're going to hit something and applies the emergency brakes. Second is the speaker sound: a big letdown for me and totally unexpected (because of the praised Harman Kardon 13 speaker system), but music seems to be concentrated from the center dash speaker and there's barely any sound coming from the back. I'm convinced this is a software issue, and I've noticed not everyone has this problem. Third is the fact that Apple Carplay was promised and has been delayed for a long time. But again, best car ever!

    • @OwenLewis67
      @OwenLewis67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can override the emergency rear brake system. we have a very steep driveway and we couldn’t even get down the driveway initially, the car got so upset (XC60)

    We can't test drive the car, because Polestar doesn't have dealerships. You have to book an appointment to have someone bring a car to meeting point in the USA. I honestly don't see Polestars on the road here. Maybe that's one reason why. Service is a whole city away from here. What is this 2012?

    I just hope they will sort it out quickly as it detracts from the customer experience. For acceleration, my other car is an AM Vantage, and the P*2 beats it.

    Hi, you may want to retest the standard one pedal driving. I think initially it was very aggressive and if you came off cruise control, for example, it went straight to it’s define braking limit and kind of threw you forward a bit. On software 1.7 in my car it now gradually starts braking over a couple of seconds if you cancel cruise control so it is much less jarring. Not sure when the graduated braking on “standard” OPD was introduced, my car came with 1.7

    I am currently stuck between the Ioniq 5 and the Polestar. We will be moving from an xc40 and currently our small dog travels in the boot in a crate, with luggage in the other half. This won't be possible in the Polestar I know so wondering what others have done.

      Yes it can be challenging, our dog is small to medium size and usually we strap her in in the middle seat at the back so that we have enough space in the boot. It's not perfect though and can be a challenge for space.

    Where can I try a Polestar 2 anywhere near East Lincolnshire? It seems I have to go to Trafford or Milton Keynes. I have tested a Kia EV6. I found it excellent to drive, but on country lanes I felt every bump through its 20" wheels and low profile tyres, and the noise from wheel arches when driving through puddles was very loud. Presumably the Polestar has more sound deadening, but will the ride match my 2005 Audi A4 or an earlier Mercedes C-class?

    Hi. I have now owned a polestar for 2 weeks. On one occasion it was snowing when I charged the car, which resulted in ice sitting within the charging bay. This also resulted in the charging bay cap to freeze, so that later when I needed to charge the car, it was hard to get it open . I can see that polestar sells a cover for the charge bay, for when it is snowing. Do you have any experience with this plate or with charging in snowy weather?

    Thanks for the video. I'm really interested in user profiles in the car. Given I share use of the Polestar with another driver, what is covered by the profiles? I understand there is memory for the driver seat, is this in any way tied with the profile on the tablet? Even if no, what settings does the profile on the tablet cover, if any?

    Do you think the glass roof is nice. We can get it without it and save $4000 USD. The pack also does come with heat pump and premium sound. So wondering what you opinion is of the roof. Seems its more for the backseat passengers than front.

      I tested a Polestar 2 with the sunroof and I had zero benefit of it as a driver. Made no difference for me. It is indeed more of a gimmick for the backseat passengers.

    Hi, we’ve been watching your vids with a view to leasing a polestar. It won’t be our main car so currently trying to decide if the additional plus pack expense is necessary. Does your vehicle have a heat pump? Do you think it would be worth getting the plus pack just for the extra range the heat pump gives! Our longest journey in the PS is likely to be 200 miles. Thanks

      @ShortCircuitPS2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. Mine doesn't have a heat pump. If 200 miles is your longest journey then you should be absolutely fine unless it's very cold or there is heavy rain. I've found the worst thing for range is cold weather and rain combined, for examples, 2 degrees temp with heavy rain. Typically though I'm getting 200-250 mile range with the best range in the warmer months.

    Might have gotten better mileage if the flat tyre message on the dash had been addressed before you started.

    Hi, i just got my polestar 1week, had 350km on it. todaybis very hot day like 37,38 degree on dash.
    The problem is the motor had a tough running and unnormal loud noise from the motor(i can tell it is not colling fan).i can even feel the resonance with my feet on the padol area.
    Anyone else had same issue?

    great car for up to 600-800km trips, but for longer ones you really need 200kw+ charging in my view, combined with decent economy. Which is currently T M3, S/X, upcoming i4 and the 800v Taycan & Audi GT. We tried to one shot BCN - Amsterdam this fall in an iX3 and just gave up after ~950km and booked a hotel. While we did same trip twice one-shotting in a Merc E and BMW 330E. So hoping the i4 M50 I have on order will do better, charging 200kwh and averaging below 20kwh driving

      i’m looking forward to the new i4 but i’m one if those can’t let go of the E36 era 😂 that new beaver grille annoys me to the end of world…
      personally looking at the i4 40 M-sport with some extra bits (M pack includes “Fully charged pack”). i want to see how it drives and charge beforehand since i’m still debating…

    Informative review thanks, however for me I'm more interested in the ability to charge any non-Tesla vehicles with the current state of the charging infrastructure in the UK? For me Tesla still have this wrapped up with their Supercharger network and the other networks are years away from catching up? The decision therefore is do you accept the Tesla's minor shortcomings for the confidence to charge virtually on any long distance run and based on previous experiences on Motorway services I would say yes?

    One of the more rambling reviews of the Polestar I’ve looked at. Waffling about inconsequential things like where a drive gate impacts on the car door! The most likely source of side dent is from another car in the car park where the impact will always be higher up the panel. And, is the boot big enough or not ?- It started as being fine for a family of four and ended up being a bit tight!

    Just another GKN electrified car. Sadly almost all european EV are basically using drivetrains from one company. Theres very little to differentiate GKN cars apart from power output. Its like an off the peg platform.
    "Hi is that GKN?, i need a hatchback and an SUV EV drivetrain with around 400bhp, talk to me"
