    I think this is a great idea that someone who works with drivers in an office setting, goes home every night, sits down and has dinner with his or her family and has more time to relax at home actually goes out with a driver and experiences the road life with another driver. This should be part of the training videos that ALL office employees including payroll should watch.

    I'll consider driving for Knight. I Like the way they encourage drivers to take their breaks at company terminals instead of regular truck stops to have a sense of security. And Knight has good equipment and good top of the line trucks. so count me in.

    As a former trucker and a former Knight driver, I really appreciate what this guy did. This should be mandatory for all dispatchers and most upper leadership as well. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a immature dispatcher that obviously has never left home trying to tell you about certain things out on the road. It's good to walk a mile in the shoes of those you will have so much control over. I really enjoyed my time with Knight so it doesn't really surprise me that someone in this good trucking company would do this. Good people make for a good company.

    As a 20+ year veteran of the trucking industry and a video producer, I have to say good job Knight. You have the bravado to put forth the initiative to combine office personnel and drivers on the front lines AND video the journey. This is something that the trucking industry is slow to respond to. This is how you recruit in 2016. I know how much time and effort is needed in this type of video. Whoever you have paid to shoot and edit this just earned their paycheck 100%
    Good job all the way around...

It was many years ago but I still remember how much I enjoyed driving over the road and I do miss it, but I could not do what I did then, I've gotten older and much softer.. What a great video. I like the fact management is getting in the trucks and running with their drivers. If you have been a driver and went into management that's great. Just NEVER forget your roots and treat drivers with the respect they deserve. There is no perfect company and no perfect driver, so don't criticize the company or driver. I drove for 15 years and went into the fire service for better money and to be home more. Retirement is just around the corner and I will most likely go back to driving. Driving is the best job I ever had and I would be willing to give Knight a try, especially if the benefits are good and it looks like they might be. Great videos!

But I'm more drawn towards Knight. And I will put in the effort and determination to be a good, safe driver, and establish a bond between me and my driver manager/dispatcher. And I believe The knight Brothers can improve Swift and make her a better carrier and they do have a flock of good drivers to do it.

    I've enjoyed driving jobs in England. Not semis but LWB Mercedes sprinter vans. Used to drive the length of the country and sleep in the van regularly. Was good fun whilst I did it, but what stopped me going back to it was the heavy heavy manual lifting that came with it. Getting too old for what they expected.

    I drove for Knight back in 20011 for several years. I was a trainer for one year. Knight is now Merged with Swift and it's quality of Drivers has gone down a lot. As for not being just another driver, well that is BS!!! When I left to work for another Truck company, I am pretty sure there was already another person driving the POS rig I had when I was with Knight/ Swift Transportation.

    Ok today I had my opinion of who is "just a driver" proven to me, so here's where your vp's viewpoint should IMO change. I had one of my own drivers blow past me in a shippers yard because he was frustrated he couldn't turn around and back in where he was at, then he clogged the whole shippers yard up because he couldn't back up, to top it all off he stole my assigned empty from the shipper without telling them! That to me is just a driver that doesn't care about any other driver!!!! A professional drive is patient, considerate, and helps other drivers out! What was funny to me was that driver got reported by me and the shipper and had to bring the trailer back to me!!! :) I was on a dedicated drop and hook run to this shipper. So that to me is what the difference is between just a driver and a professional driver is.

    With almost 25 years in the industry, I'm looking at transitioning into
    recruiting or becoming a driver liaison and I've noticed over the
    years that so many companies miss out on that aspect of driver
    retention. Retention is important for many reasons when it comes to cost
    and safety. Most drivers have an accident within six months of hiring
    on with a new company if what I've read is correct.
    I've observed over the years, talk to other drivers and over heard conversations on the old "Phone Banks" as to why drivers leave a company. Many times they just need someone to hear them out or someone that can look into a problem for them and sometimes they just need to blow off a little steam and have a little buffer between them and the dispatcher, safety, payroll or whomever. Companies lose too many drivers over something that could be solved by someone they feel has their back and will try to help the out.
    So what does a driver do when someone won't listen? They go to the driver's counter and they look for someone who will listen and they beat the company down in front of other drivers and now you have a driver who is wanting to quit poisoning your pool of potential driver candidates. "Well I heard company X is like this from one of their drivers when I was at the T/A last week." and that hurts your recruiting.
    Being a veteran as well, I think a company could benefit from recruiters willing to travel to military installations and seek out some of the country"s best to train and place behind the wheel. Also seeking out displaced workers and I'll give you an example, Carrier in Indianapolis, In moving to Mexico. There will be a lot of hard working folks looking for jobs when they close. Unemployment offices and job fairs are a place to try to get them into the industry, which is already struggling with numbers.

    Only way you can get me with knight is if all their trucks come with a fridge, inverter, and APU. I had none of that when I started with Werner and now I have all 3 and I'm spoiled now lol. And 400 miles per day? I usually drive about 550-630 miles per day depending on the load

Some people would call it a cowboy outfit but hell I made good money and had fun. But all good things come to a end and my wife had twins so working local now

      +Ed D Do you like to be paid for the work you do? Do you like chasing down empties? They just settled a class action lawsuit: where it was determined they screwed drivers out of money, I received a settlement check. You'd think they'd learn: but no, they screwed me on pay! Told me one thing and did the opposite. Go work for them and see for yourself...

    • @elindigeno1215
      @elindigeno1215 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      All these big rig companies are the same. They pay is very little for the work we do

    • @32springstreetnyc94
      @32springstreetnyc94 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ed D I agree! However, in my case: I am telling you that they actually Did Not, let me repeat: Did Not pay me for what I did...they told me to do something, which I did, and then I received no pay for it period. So they literally stole money from me: That is why I am no longer there! I'm an employee: Not a volunteer, so yeah, I have an expectation to be compensated for the work that I do! By the way, I can prove all of my assertions. Anyway, if you want to work for a good company, knight transportation: Should be avoided if you want to be paid for an honest days work!

    it's like watching a small potato start to grow! Before he grows into a big potato.
    Such is life.
    We are all small potatoes.
    Even you, hot chicks!
    Such is life.
    I'm a driver too... but this is a corporate video.
    Most of us are small potatoes.
    Unless we grow into big fat potatoes but then we're still just potatoes
    So are the rich people who make us drive.
    We are all potatoes.
    If we get buried we send shoots up from our core that gives new life.
    If Knight is a good company then awesome for them....
    I don't think there is anyone more qualified for a driving position than an honest person who doesn't put up with any bullshit.
    my two cents. you're welcome, Knight.

    I'm quite sure if you only drive 400 miles a day in good weather, I'm sure your driver manager would tell you that they expect more(much more). I think knights trucks are governed at 65mph, you can drive 600+ miles a shift. I drove for a company that had their trucks governed at 65mph, and I consistently drove 625 miles(or more) each shift(weather permitting)

    • @KnightTransportation1
      @KnightTransportation1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What he was saying is that he expects to average 400 miles a day for all days in the month or 12k a month typically. (including downtime/hometime etc)
