      @truckingthesevenseas your doing the most important thing that 95% of O/Os refuse to do. Tracking the numbers. Look into Profit Gauges, at Let’s Truck for a great accounting system made for trucking that will provide you and your tax preparers a great P&L and business report. You seem like a smart guy, maybe should have just bought a used truck and leased on to Landstar or Mercer, etc etc , you’d make more money and drive less miles, be way more control of the maintenance other cost, and your life in general.

      That's exactly the plan. I talked about it in this video. Test drive this vehicle, wait out the trash market and then go Land star. I'm not in a hurry to make the leap at the moment. Next year though.

      @@truckingthesevenseas If your overall “good” plan is to go work for a company that takes over 30% off the top from you then I don’t care how good you are with numbers or how dedicated you are you’re fucked. The industry standard to lease a truck to a company is 10~15%. Landstar has been absolutely raping people for decades now just like knight. It doesn’t matter how amazing their drivers lie and say they are I promise you their freight is not 20-25% better than the open market to justify what they take off the top. So step one get away from knight turn that shit in and just go drive a company truck so you can actually make money while you learn all this stuff and step two stop looking at huge mega fleets as a way to be profitable as an individual. They don’t care about you, they will NEVER care about you. Start making friends that own 5-10 trucks and lease on to them and take home 85-90% and you’ll find out what actually making money in trucking is all about. Preferably one that’s in a niche market like ltl reefer or oversize.

      The dedicated flatbed account I’m on the average company driver is making 100k with benefits home on weekends and can get home during the week . Keep your record clean don’t hit things don’t speed and tailgate show up on time don’t cause problems with customers and communicate effectively with dispatch . You will developed a good reputation. That will allow you to network into a high paying position . It could take a couple years but the jobs are out there . And fully fund your 401k before you run off and buy a new car , your spending a week or more in a truck and your going to leave your car parked in some random lot a 3000 dollar grandma Corolla is fine you might put 5000 miles a year on it . Also otr you can probably ditch having an apartment and bank that money as well . We have a local driver that rides a Walmart bicycle to work and leaves it I. His trucks parking spot makes 100k a year and rides a 100 dollar bike to work . I prefer my brompton it folds up nice and fits right in front of a freightliner passenger seat .

    Industry driver success rate for lease purchase programs is around 3%. That means very few drivers actually end up owning the vehicle. The vast majority turn it in well before completion. This is purposely designed. The companies make much more money if the drivers fail because they can then lease it out to someone else. In the meantime the driver is basically paying the truck payment for the company, plus the company makes a profit from the drivers loads. The whole thing is a scam.

    • @kwhopper1100
      @kwhopper1100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well it’s not just leases it’s owner operators as well and it comes down to a lack of understanding your numbers and not knowing how to maximize efficiency for most of them . I know successful owner operators as well but they are not driving Pete’s down the road at 75 or 80 trying to chase miles all your accomplishing doing that is to run your expenses per mile so high that you lose money on every mile you run and if your not tracking your numbers you won’t realize it until your bankrupt .

    @michaelferro5268 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey there ! Do some long term math. Calculate the average of what you have done with expenses in a few months and put it up against the average of those revenue rates. Do this for an estimated 3,4 or 5 year period . You’ll find those loads don’t pay enough per mile , which forces you to run miles to make your bills. Miles equals maintenance and wear on the truck. Look in truck paper what that truck is worth after you run up the miles , versus what you are paying for it. You got the fuel efficient rig which is a plus but over time the rates will eat the truck alive, and your fuel bill. You need to make more in a shorter amount of time. Mega carriers have lots of perky benefits from their size , but their rates just force one to wear out the equipment too fast while making the low end of the o/o spectrum. Plus, your life is spent always driving…Go to a place where you can dispatch yourself and work on percentage. You’ll get more flexibility to choose better loads for you. When you’re dispatched , someone else has the control of where and what you do. You have a lot of skin in the game . Carrier makes $$ no matter what rate you haul for. They don’t care if you go broke in time , someone just like you is waiting in orientation. Be careful… and best wishes on your quest !

    • @StayingBack71
      @StayingBack71 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it's nowhere near that much
      I know because I wasn't independent for well over 30 years...
      Self-employment tax is 15%
      Federal and state combined is 15% if you have dependents, And it's even lower than that if you file jointly with your spouse.
      And you end up getting a refund if you're paying a total of 30% when you file
      Of course it all depends on what your net profit is for the entire year if you are under $75,000
      And there's a good chance working for these fleece companies is that you're not going to net a $100,000 of profit

    The fuel surcharge needs to be tracked for transparency. The rate changes daily so if you are getting the same thing frrom Phoenix to Indiana and back to Phoenix you are not really getting the 100% fuel surcharge the shipper is paying. The complete 100% fuel surcharge is to go to the truck. Not to be shared with the company and driver, or broker and driver. Many companies and brokers try to take a piece of this when they are to be. Please look into this as I'd like to see you succeed as a lease driver and to complete your lease so you will then have your own truck. Good Luck.

      @truckingthesevenseas  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We get 100% of the fuel surcharge. The fuel surcharge changes week to week. It does not change per load. It is being tracked weekly on the "Fuel Surcharge" column. Of the spreadsheet. There's three different fuel surcharges at knight based on geographical location. I'm based on the west coast so I get the highest fuel surcharge. If you are based in Texas its a lot less and the east coast is in the middle.
