Enjoyed the CB conversation that you had with the other driver he was an old school guy and those guys are getting few and far between and it's sad because when all on you guys are gone an era of great truckers will be gone forever
Miss this with Cb radio here in Sweden. I have drive trucks sense 1990 so 33 years now and lots have changed tro the years. No truckers ower here have CBs in the trucks now day's. The Cb die out in the end of the 90s when cellphones get cheaper to buy and youse. What i can miss is the camaraderie that was between drivers in the past. Many of us still use the CB all the time. My whole channel is dedicated to CB live streams from South Carolina along with some how-to videos with CB stuff.
I may not be a trucker but i always run a CB in my personal vehicle an old General Electric 40 channel that actually works better then my previous and newer Cobra 29 WX NW ST.
Im not gonna lie, i do miss be out there on the road. Hearing that old Cat put in work, to the CB chatter on the radio. Good times! Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
@@Dieselmachine4 right now the solar cycle is making it easier and easier to talk "skip" or long distance when mother nature allow you. I gurantee if you set up a decent antenna and turn to channel 6 you'll hear voices. Hope to hear you on the airwaves!
Love the CB talk with one of your fans. That other crap was annoying. Anyhoo, be safe on the roads. Here in Wisconsin, we never know when Winter will end.
My biggest detractor of keeping my radio turned up is hard drive whining all day that he gets no respect. Some of you would say tune him out but he hits my radio no matter where I’m at. Pretty much if your chasing skip or anything other than relaying emergencies or truck to truck chatter there are 39 other channels to do your business.
Awesome looking cabover! My Mom and Dad drove a 392 cat in their 1982 Freightliner. I never became a trucker. But I sure do enjoy the videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
In California 5 years ago they were cutting holes in all the cat blocks and cutting the frames in half. A company in Mexico was buying up the truck and putting the frames back together and patching the blocks up and running the trucks in Mexico.
I was getting flash backs on the CB chatter, have spent miles chatting on CB(not on sesame street channel) helped with the monotony of 500 miles at 55 mph
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary. It's kinda nice having the chat back and forth with your CB radio. While driving in the snow stay safe Steve.
About 30 years ago I use to go on drives with my father in his rig, was always on the CB chatting with other drivers. Didn’t realize drivers don’t talk much anymore
Nice relaxing video FSC. Your videos bring back some memories for me. What I don’t miss is waking up and there is snow everywhere and it’s cold. But that’s part of trucking. I wished I could still do it but reality tells an entirely different story. Anywho FSC times have changed. Even when I was out there chatter on the CB was getting way out of control, the content was for adults only. The CB was starting to loose its appeal it once had. Well FSC have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring.
So Steve, I seen you today at about 2:10PM 03/22/2023 when you were heading north out of Cusetta, GA on Hiway 280 heading towards Columbus, GA. I flashed my High Beams at you. I didn't see a load but I did recognize your truck with those stacks.
That's correct. The three cylinder diesel in the APU is tied into the Cat's cooling system so as the APU runs to create heat in the cabin, it pushes the coolant into the engine block, thus warming it up for easier cold starting.
Had no idea the roads were that torn up. I think that may actually be worse than Kawlifornia's "freeways," which are falling behind in repairs. Also, the very wet winter has the base getting mushy, and sinkholes eroding out under the lanes in a lot of places. Thanks for the sights, Steve.
I live in California and drive a truck and will tell you, I go through a bottle of Aleve every month because the roads are so bad you back starts to feel it. I call California the never ending construction zone.
🤠 FSC Orville DRIVER ! AND GREETINGS FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE. I enjoy your TH-cam videos and it's nice to see an old school Pete cabover still getting it done. I'm a retired trucker, former flatbed pallet hauler, touring band member, and farmer. I trained to drive CDL but my music career conflicted too much with the schedule. But I did own 4 flatbed straight trucks and pickups for a little while. The pride of my fleet at that time was the 76 Louisville form truck converted to an 18 ft flatbed. Keep the and the Rubberside down.
In the Dead of Winter when I Ran in Nasty Driving Conditions I turned the Music Radio Off the Squelch Dial Volume on the CB Radio turned to the Scratching sound came Up & C B Radio Volume turned Up too
That purring of the Cat, gear through gear, brings me back. I've been retired for some time now, OTR. As much as things began to be a PINTA, I do miss it. I enjoy watching your vids. Nice job driver,
Talk about contrasts in weather conditions - you and Orwell freezing out there, while #TimGentry is nice and warm in Tennessee trying out his new heavy-haul Pete!

Drove for Sam Tanksley when they had the new Pete's, White with the Blue stripes. Loved those double sleepers & 13 Speeds. Sam died and the partners wife took it over. It was the Harris Corporation that owned a Pete dealership in St. Louis and a Dorsey Trailer dealership in Cape Giraudoux, MO. It was nice to have new Equipment. Thanks for the ride along; sure brings back memories. In the early 90's most companies were converting to long nose. I'm one of the weirdos that like driving in snow and ice. Sad these days, only the old school drivers can throw a set of chains on. I'm glad my first few yeah over the road was for a small company and an O/O. The small company sent us to the northwest with a single screw COE Int'l (small cab) pulling doubles. THAT was fun going from Spokane to Lewiston in the dead of winter. Thank goodness there was no storm. I was so glad when the conv. cabs took over the market. It wasn't long before the sleeper door opened up so you could sit on your bed and get dressed LOL but I would buy a Double sleeper Pete in a heart beat, but I'm aiming for retiring from trucking soon.
