@katy: Couldn't agree more. It is such a powerful reflection of a narrow-minded, superficial society to suggest that women are only beautiful if they all have tiny noses and look a certain way(thank you Kardashian women, the modeling and beauty industry($$ driven so of course it's all about making you feel inadequate!), and media for perpetuating this beauty myth!). I always thought Cher botched it completely when she changed her nose. I thought she was stunning before she changed her nose and still very pretty after but far more dramatic and beautiful before she changed her nose. I have always thought that Barbra Streisand was stunning. That cover photo of her on the new memoir? She looks like an Egyptian goddess. Her profile is absolutely stunning. Yeah I just can't believe people would suggest otherwise. Beauty is such a multifaceted, varied thing.

barbra is beautiful, what really matters, what is inside. yes we all change, but i believe don't put emphasis on physical but whom she is! My problem is not so much the length, but what she chose to keep the book, and what she's left out. For serious fans who really know the full body of her work from her early success, there are way too many gaps, and significant people left out. Bob Merrill who wrote the lyrics for Funny Girl, and for all the songs that were dropped on the road - apparently twenty - is pretty much ignored, because she didn't care for him. She loves Jules Styne who wrote the music, so he gets all the acclaim. Not fair at all. And where's her half sister Rosalind Kind? She's honest about herself, and putting aside her films and her music, she's a remarkable, driven woman, but at times there's too much self validation and in the end, denial. She would have been absurdly too old for another film of 'Gypsy' - but she absolutely can't see it. So yes, it's most interesting when she's interested in the episodes she's writing about like 'Yentl', and her early days in New York. struggling - but when she's not - it's routine.

Apparently 'La Streisand' says she hasn't had much fun in her life. In writing about it at such length - nearly 1000 pages - she is clearly determined to inflict that lack of fun on us!
