Great review. You have literally summed up my experience going from 10years of merrell to the Vivo primus trail fg. No room for anything beyond big toe! The motus strength felt better but zero breathability with all the plastic. Bring back merrell trail glove version 1!
I emailed vivo about this. In a response with words to the effect of... they are in the process of moving all shoes to a more spacious shape. When? They did not say.
Hello Armoured Muscle. Good review. Thank you. I purchased both the Primus Lite 2 and Primus FG Trail 2 (Not Knit) about a month ago. They’re both excellent. The FG Trails are quite wider in the toe box than the Lites and I wear those with the sole versus the Lites, I find them too tight with the soles so I remove them and good to go!! I have pretty wide feet. Cheers!
Thanks for the video! It was helpful…I’m getting the same color way so it’s nice to see in a video before I get them. Hopefully they fit! On top of what Bruno said, according to this video (th-cam.com/video/pL5hFhJ8pBg/w-d-xo.html) the primus trail fg has a wider toe box than the primes trail knits.
I recommend the standard trail vs knit(I like them so much I have all weather versions as well. I wanted to like them as well. But the knit doesn't hug my foot right so I got blisters at my heels. I also like the lite which are by far the best daily trainers I have used. I've worn all with and without the soles.
I have to remove the insoles to get the best fit from Vivos as I have long 3rd toes. I really enjoy them without an insole anyway so not an issue. I have noticed the materials getting stiffer in recent vivos which is maybe due to more recycled plastics but they do loosen up.
I don't know if you've found them yet but their Addis models are built on different sole and that has more rounded toe box. So there's big changes they'd fit you. It's not an athletic shoe though. It's casual. Also they run larger. I have many pairs in 44,, Addis in 44 were huge. 43 definitely. Lastly. Upper on them is stiffer but it's leather so they should mold to foot and fit nicer over time. I don't own these (too many pairs for now) but tried them in the store because I know they're sizing between models can be inconsistent.
I experiencied the same with the Prímus lite after wearing the vivo addis for one year y think the last of the toe box its gonna be the same but unfortunately not . Vivo addis was my favorite toenbox shape and sole for general pourposes , vivo must to make sport shoes with the sole of the addis . May be its your best option for this brand👋👋
The Lites in particular definitely loosen up over time. I have a Lite III (non knit) that I adore but I've recently stopped wearing it as much as I sized up and it became a bit *too* much room and floppy. Similar sizing for me - rather between 9 & 10 and I usually go with a 10 historically but nowadays I've started going with 9 on Vivos as they really do relax. I started with Merrells (Trail Glove II back in 2013 or so before they ruined that shoe) and a few others, but I don't have any left (except that first TG II that is STILL hanging on!) and have moved entirely to Vivos and one pair of Lems. Love'm both. Merrells just had too much arch except for Vaporglove which never fit me properly and I think they just look ugly AF. 😄
I can agree the Vivo's look a lot better than option by Merrell. Likewise, seeing everyone elses Vivo's look fairly supple I was surprised by what rigidity there was in the Vivo's. With the pressure on my toe I don't think I could have got round to wearing them in for long enough like yourself.
The strut fit, size recommendation thing, that vevo uses is not very accurate. On the first attempt it recommended me as a US 9 (definitely not correct). Second attempt it recommended me as a US 12.5 (little too big). The third attempt got real close at 10.5, but still not correct. Same foot, same position, same piece of paper, but different photos giving different results.
We both know not to use that again then. Though mine came close to start with hence the belief in the beginning it may be correct. Did you get a size to fit for you?
@@armouredmuscleat the time I did I placed an order from vevo they did not have US sizes on their website, only UK and EU. Most of my shoes have the US, UK, and EU size printed on the tag on the tongue. I ordered a Primus Trail 2 FG based on that. I ended up with pretty much the same issue as you where the shoe fit exactly the length of my foot, toes just barely touching the end. As long as I took the insole out it was okay. I've had my first set of vivos for about 2 years now. I just ordered my second pair a half size larger.
I believe they are the "Move" Glove Suede. They don't appear to be available on the Merrell website so I assume they aren't in production anymore. Were you after a pair?
I'm not so sure. I'd been wearing minimals for a year already so the spread should have happened. Plus I replaced the size 9's with a 10 and still had the same problem. The other comments suggested taking to sole out which I didn't think of.
Not my experience with Vivos... that used to be my mantra but I think that is only true for ppl that have not yet spent much time in barefoot shoes generally. In the past I usually opted to err on the side of sizing up, but Vivos relax over time and I've stopped doing that, otherwise the shoe becomes too floppy - not bad but enough to bother me. Instead I stay correctly sized with just enough room, and remove the insole for the first weeks/months of wear. Eventually I can put it back in after the shoes have stretched a bit.
@@paddywiggle I tried a few sizes another model since. The bigger sizes that fit my toes slip out at the heel. The sizes that support my heel put pressure on the toe nail 🤷

I didn't think to remove the soles. Hey-ho it's done now. Thanks for the info on the varying width between the Lites and Trail

Ah awesome. I'll take a look at the trails instead of the knits next time I'm in the market 👍
@@armouredmuscle The non-knit version is slightly wider than the knit I found. Give them a try
Wow! That is so "orange" it makes my mouth water! I love my Vivobareboot boots and shoes. Great review!
They were indeed very orange very much to my partners dismay.

Thanks for the added insight there Paul. I did wonder if they would loosen up.

26 cm x 9.5 cm

They have been mentioned a few times though as a casual shoe I don't think they would replace any of my current 'barefoot' shoes when the time comes.
This colorway is so sweet. I hope Vivobarefoot brings it back.
They like the vibrant stuff so I'm sure they'll bring something similar

agree, they are medium toe box, and also length are short IMO
It's a shame as I really like them
Remove the insoles. You’ll get more room for the toes, and they’ll be more flexible and more like merrell's
Duely noted. When I'm next in the market I'll consider these and thanks for sharing the info foe others to see too.
Use a shoe stretcher if the big toe room doesn’t satisfy you. Those who feel sore, wear an extra thick insole
@@johntay3831 it wasn't the big toe for me though if no other brand suits, a stretcher it may have to be
I’ve heard the PT II standard are wider in the toe box.
On quick search the SG variant seems to be discontinued
They are - not by a huge margin but slightly. (I think @armouredmuscle is replying to a different comment) :)

The insole trick seems to be the solution. Will be interesting to hear how he half size effects the toe feel.
What's your size? In centimeters? And EU?
EU size is usually 44 or 45
Regular Trail FG are wider in the toe box.

I think you shouldn't have sized down. Your feet would have spread out.

The cost is "lower", not "cheaper".
