Damn it, I just ordered the Lite and the Lite Knit to see how they feel, and after watching this video, I wish I'd got the Trail Knit. Thanks for the thorough review, pointed some things out that I'd never considered.
A few things to note about the Trail Knit FG: 1. The lacing system does not secure your feet in place very well for things like jumping, sprinting, and lateral movements. 2. The extra sole around the edges makes it great for trails, but feels bulky and will make it unnecessarily harder to jump rope for example. 3. There is more material in the sole so it doesn't move with your feet as well as say the inov-8 210. Grip is great, just wished didn't have so much material on the sides.
My pair hasn't had this issue, however, I've had a bunch of comments discussing this over the last year. My theory is that Vivo tweaked something and now the durability of this model is more variable and hit or miss.
Thank you for the fantastic video. Learned a ton. I've had the Primus Asana and wear them every day for all occasions. Fav shoes. Want to buy another pair. Perhaps Primus Lite 3 or Primus Lite All Weather. I have wide feet, and looking to use it for daily use, including work, workout and travel. Any advice?
Honestly, both of those models should work well for you so I'd go with the model with the best price point/colorway for you! They'll have last constructions that should feel wicked similar to the Asana as well, at least, the men's models are all super similar in that context! Thank you for checking out the vid and shout if you have additional questions.
I've got the Gobi 2 and Geo Court 2 in size 45. With medium thickness socks the length is just long enough, but I would like extra width. Would you know if these are more narrow, as wide, or wider than the other pairs I have? and should I go with my regular size or 12 or go 12.5 for these?
Good Information, Jake, I run long distance in the Prime Lite which a separate tongue, I was wondering of the sock style on the Primus Lite knit, will this be as comfortable please as the Primus Lite with a separate tongue ?

Awesome review, I currently have the Primus Trail Knit FG I daily at work. I’ve had them since January. I’m planning to buy one of Vivo’s dresser shoes for my brother’s wedding next year then convert them to my work shoes since they’re a bit more formal for the office, I want to keep my current pair as a gym/casual shoe. I noticed some glue came off of the shoe though, too bad Vivo repairs are UK only. I’m probably just going to get shoe glue to fix it.
Jake....in your dedicated Primus Trail Knit video you recommend going a size down. In this video you seem to say go with your usual size. I'll have to order these shoes online and cannot try them on in person. Any update on the Trail Knit sizing? I have 6 pairs of Xero shoes and wear men's 11 in all of them (Prio Neo, Zelen, Ridgeway Mesh Low, etc) for reference. And thanks for the fantastic reviews. I became a subscriber. Your videos helped me choose the Prio Neo shoes as my new HIIT shoes. I've burst started with barefoot shoes two months ago.
I buy and wear the same size for all of my reviews because it's easier to assess size variance that way :) I'd size down if you find that you have room at the end of your toe box in those Xero models. If those models are super snug, then TTS should be okay but expect them to feel longer than your current lineup. Thank you so much! I appreciate that!

Thank you! Yeah, pretty much the exact same. Most of the Primus models use the same last construction, I feel. It feels snugger because of the heavier upper, but length will be same same!
@thatfitfriend i have the primus trail fg 3.5 in size 13 they true to size i think. Also have the trail knit fg and tracker decon fg2 both size 13 as well

I purchased the knit model and sized them down to 42EU based on your recommendation, they have a bit room at the front and break at the right spot. I am looking to buy the Trail FG too and thinking to use size 43EU. Do you think this should be fine? Also, will you have a video for the primus asana 2 :) thx
@@thatfitfriendthatfitfriend after few days I took the insoles out as the shoe felt a bit tight, but now it's fine with the lite knit. For the primus trail the webpage says that I should use 44EU which gives about 1.5cm space at the front and with 43EU it would be 0.5cm. The primus lite knit that I have now is 42EU it was 0.5cm spacing calculated which is approx. true now that I have them. The sizing is confusing with vivos and thx for your help :). Do you have the all-weather version tested?
Vivo has a feature where you take a picture of your foot again tan 8x11 piece of paper and suggest what size you should get for the particular shoe you are looking at.
Jake, a question on the fit vs construction. I ended up with a pair of Primus lite III despite having a 4E foot (wicked solid deal at about 60% off) but to my surprise the don't fit as badly as I thought they would. Yes, they are a few mm too narrow for me but the construction is what causes a problem. That hard synthetic layer on the upper that the lace system is made off and the material under them simply doesn't expand at all. Looking at the knit, it looks like the lace construction is higher up the upper and the material below it is, well, knit, lol. So, I guess they would expand better. Anyway, do you think the Knit would be worth a look or am I going to have the same issue? I've really been wanting to give Vivos a fair shake but these III's aren't the model for me, lol. Relegated to deadlift slippers atm. As always, if you get the time, thank you for your input. If not, no worries!
I'd pass on the knit, imo! You'll likely fit in them fine, but just end up having more spillover since the material is more lax! Save the money and look for something else
Hi Jake, which is the difference between the “all weather” primus lite III and the standard one? Has the “all weather” model made with a waterproof material?
Do you have any experience with the Primus Trail Knit 2 All Weather FG? I want something good for versatile training and everyday outdoor wear. I assume it is similar to the Trail Knit, but worry a little bit with breathability.
I am pretty lost on sizing, I typically wear a 10.5 in vans and wear those pretty daily. More space for my toes sounds so much more comfortable than how narrow my vans are so i have been thinking about getting into barefoot shoes. Vivo seems to be the best aesthetically pleasing brand. If there are any others with a similar look and quality to them i would be very interested; especially if they were lower in price. What size barefoot shoes should I get though i am honestly clueless on how their sizing works.
Should decrease over time, but yeah, that's an issue with this model foorrrrrrr sure - if it's 8+/10 unbearable, I'd return and cop a diff model. If it's only slightly annoying, then you should be fine and they'll break in faster for ya
How does the trail knit FG compare to the lite when it comes to lockdown? I tried the lite for two days, and my foot kept sliding around inside, and that was not sustainable at all for doing anything dynamic. Does the trail knit FG lock the foot down better? And you mentioned they run long? Longer than the lite?
My first pair of barefoot shoes just arrived, I got trail knit FG after watching your video. My toe to front of the shoe have two finger width, is that too big?
Great video man! I really love how the Primus Lite Knit looks, way better for casual wear than the Primus Lite III. I have both as well, curious to try the Primus Lite Trail now too. Does the upper around the tongue feel as tight as the Primus Lite Knit? Obviously it needs to be tight to support the foot but to me it feels a bit annoying as you can't really loosen it up
Thank you! It’s a bit snug like the Primus Lite Knit. If you thought that model was too tight then I’m not convinced you’ll like the fit of the Trail Knit, tbh. I do think the Trail Knit digs a little less into the feet during the break in process, though.
@@thatfitfriend rehashing your old post, hope you respond. I just bought vivo primus knits and they were so tight around my chunky ankles and the instep (top of the foot) was in pain without even walking around. I'm looking at exchanging for xero nexus knits, do you know about the xero if they have a wider ankle openning and are looser around the top? or do you have other suggestions for large ankles
@@Dizeliun ah, yeah - they can feel snug on certain folks. Nexus knit are a bit better, but I’d also say look into the Feelgrounds move if you’re after knit specifically or the Be Lenka Velocity. Post break in the velocity have a nice fit to em!
@@thatfitfriend thanks for the swift reply! I sadly bought these shoes at a smaller shop and have store credit and can only exchange for certain other brands. I'm looking at Xero Nexus Knit / Vivo Primus Lite III / Lems Primal Zen. Out of those 3 options do you happen to know which of the three would have the most "give" to their ankle / top area?
How would you say the Xero HFS compare to the Vivo Trail Knit FG? I use the Primus lite III for the gym but am a little worried about taking them outside, especially on casual trail walks, so I’m looking for something similar for casual use, and occasional running and trail walks.
HFS feel a little more minimalist, the Trail Knit FG will give you a more robust upper/sole. I think if you want something for outdoor work, both will work, but the Trail Knit FG will give your feet a bit more protection while the HFS will give you a more minimal feel!
how does the trail conjure to motus strength. I am using the lotus strength for the last 2 work out and I like it. I am looking for a baleful shoe that is for outdoor/daily wear. Should I just pick up another Motus or the Trail or Knit. Thanks.
@@thatfitfriend just place the order 30 min ago for the trail. In regards to the Trail, the UK site has way more color way where as US only have the black/white and that weird color one. but for outdoor I wanted a darker color so the black/white works for me. thanks for the quick reply.
This is a really good review. Im now convinced the primus lite 3 is the best for me. BUT I still feel I need the motus strength vivobarfoot shoe.... I'm gonna get both.. A moment of silence for my bank account. 😢
I was between the 40 and 41 in the Primus Lite III. My foot measures 25.5cm. Initially I was going for the 40, which was a bit snugger but toes came within half a finger width from the end of the shoe. I went for the 41s which have a finger’s width to the front of the shoe. The Vivo sizing tool on their website (where you take a photo of your foot) recommended the 41s which is what I went for (arriving today). I figured maybe having not worn barefoot shoes before I’m used to a snugger fit, which in this case might not be the best and defeat the purpose of things like the wide toe box? Curious if you have advice!
I’d stick 41s if you’re not slipping out of them! Your feet should eventually expand a bit and fill them better. That said, though, if you’re having slip issues and sliding all around then going 40 may be the move and they would likely stretch a bit over time!
@@thatfitfriend update after a few days: Very happy with the decision to stick to the 41s. Wearing a slightly thicker sock helps (although not a sock that restricts toe movement, of course). Loving the shoes, it is a completely addictive walking experience (as ridiculous as that may sound).
With regards to typical running shoes like Brooks and the Primus Lite IIIs, how padded or at least elastic is the back of the shoes where the rear of the ankle would sit? I ask as I recently learned that I have a haglund's deformity (bone spur on top rear heel), that can be an issue with the minimalist design of most barefoot shoes. I have never had any issue with traditional running shoes, but my Vivo Barefoot "Primus Lite III Mens" cause pain in the long-term due to the tight (non-elastic) unpadded rear of the shoe. The pressure on the rear of my heel causes the bone spur to inflame my achilles tendon. Thankfully it is relatively minimal as the inflammation only got bad after consistently using them as my main pair of shoes. I am trying to find a shoe that is either more padded like a traditional shoe, or at least elastic so there isn't as much pressure on the rear of my heel and these look promising.
Not a ton of padding, tbh! The material is pretty thin and in your context I'm not sure it would be enough to deliver a comfortable/supportive enough fit. Sorry for the delay on this comment, btw. I totally missed this comment!
Some can experience this during the break-in period. I did not, but think it would be misleading to say it won’t happen at all. Bootie construction shoes can always run this risk, but it should dissipate after a couple of weeks if you do run into this!
Hey Jake, really enjoyed your reviews and they've helped me a lot while trying to figure out which barefoot shoe might work for me. I'm in the process of ordering the tolos archetype and am considering some of the vivos now too. Have you had any experience with Zaqq shoes from Germany?
I've been going back and fourth with the trail fg 3.5 and the primus lite 3.5. I want gym shoes and everyday living 🥲 the trail knits are calling my name though after this review
I love my Primus Lite 3s, but hate the Geo Racer. They feel so narrow & constricting, whereas the Lite 3s feel like I can actually spread & splay my foot/toes.
I’m traditionally a 10 in shoes and my foot length comes out to 10.65 inches which comes out to about 27 cm. Based on Vivobarefoot’s sizing guide, I’m in between a 9 and a 10! I typically buy 10 for continuity of review purposes and to compare 10s across brands.
@@thatfitfriend Hi Do you use size 10 US or 10UK ? same in altra and vivos? my feet lenght is almost the same of yours and I am beggining to see your videos and will start to buy some shoes from Altra (running) and vivobarefoot (casual/gym). I like to have at least 1cm space when running to avoid rubbing in the front of the shoe. Thanks
After my first dynamic training session with the trail FG knits, the firm plastic back gave my heel a nasty blister. Was this ever your experience / do they break in?
Should! Did you wear socks? May be worth rocking some for the first couple of weeks if it’s digging into the heels. Can also work the material with your hands a bit to help with this!
Happened to me too. I had a knit before and wanted more traction, the trail destroyed my foot and I WANTED this shoeeee. Debating going up a size. It was the top of my big toe joint that was rubbing.
Pretty similar! Soles are comparable and the Geo Racer Knit is similar to the Primus Lite Knit, but has a traditional boot construction whereas the Primus has a bootie-style boot!
For me, the tongue of the primus lite knit gets in the way of my ankles getting sufficient dorsiflexion in my squats. Plan on trying the primus lite iii. Anyone else experience this issue?
I've got the same issue with these. They're pretty tight around my ankles. I'm debating between returning vs seeing if it loosens up. The Geo Racer Knit definitely loosened over time and had a similar construction.
Which vivo would be better for everyday wear and to use for standing and walking to work in? I tried the Lems but that hump on the heel part was throwing me off and I didn’t get that barefoot feel from them. They kinda gave me knee pain and heel pain i still felt kinda elevated and not all the way even with the ground
If the main ask is as a daily wear, then the Primus Lite Knit. Think that will be a good low-to-the-ground option for you and the bootie-style construction gives them a nice edge for day-to-day use!

the geo racer knits are great for daily wear too and even more comfortable than the primus lite knit imo as those can feel a bit tight at the upper tongue part. Geo racer knit just feels incredible for casual wear and walking, plus it's on sale too so much cheaper

I'd go Lite. Think that would be your best bet regarding upper security!

@@Breakingthroughcoaching appreciate you 🤝
Vivo has a feature where you take a picture of your foot again tan 8x11 piece of paper and suggest what size you should get for the particular shoe you are looking at.
@@thatfitfriend Okay, thanks I'll keep watching and comparing!
@@kitcraft9516 🤝🤝
Hi Jake, which is the difference between the “all weather” primus lite III and the standard one?
Has the “all weather” model made with a waterproof material?
It's an upper difference. The all-weather model is built with more water-resistant constructions and non-absorbent materials.
@@thatfitfriendThat’s great! So aren’t there any cons in respect to the normal one, are they?
I wonder if the all weather is hotter and sweatier then?
Do you have any experience with the Primus Trail Knit 2 All Weather FG? I want something good for versatile training and everyday outdoor wear.
I assume it is similar to the Trail Knit, but worry a little bit with breathability.
I haven't, but it looks wicked similar. All Weather uppers can run a bit heavier, but honestly, I wouldn't stress that too much
Awesome showdown Jake👉 Could you please do a review on the Lems men's waterproof chelsea boot.
Thanks you in advance 🫡
I can add them to the list! Thank you.
I’d go 10 for Vivo if you grab a Primus model. They typically run long.
Look into Tolos as well, they make a solid model for $110ish
Hey Jake, I just got the trail knit FG and where the crease is over my toes, especially pinky toe really hurts. Does this soften up?
Should decrease over time, but yeah, that's an issue with this model foorrrrrrr sure - if it's 8+/10 unbearable, I'd return and cop a diff model. If it's only slightly annoying, then you should be fine and they'll break in faster for ya
How does the trail knit FG compare to the lite when it comes to lockdown? I tried the lite for two days, and my foot kept sliding around inside, and that was not sustainable at all for doing anything dynamic. Does the trail knit FG lock the foot down better? And you mentioned they run long? Longer than the lite?
IMO, it does a lot better of a job and they've placed my Knits for versatile gym use. Their length is about the same!
My first pair of barefoot shoes just arrived, I got trail knit FG after watching your video. My toe to front of the shoe have two finger width, is that too big?
I would size down!
@@thatfitfriend good to know man, thanks! I live an hour away from the Vivo shop in London so I can always go try them out to be sure as well
@@thatfitfriend rehashing your old post, hope you respond.
Thanks.
Motus + Trail would be a good combo to rotate through, imo!

Pour some out for the homies
@@thatfitfriend thanks that’s what I’m going to do! The shoe runs pretty long which takes some getting used to!
@@deanbenjamin5776 love it 🤝🤝
@@thatfitfriend update after a few days: Very happy with the decision to stick to the 41s.

Great video man!
Thank you!
Any blisters/discomfort with the sock liners in the Trail Knits without wearing socks? Thanks!

After my first dynamic training session with the trail FG knits, the firm plastic back gave my heel a nasty blister. Was this ever your experience / do they break in?
Should! Did you wear socks? May be worth rocking some for the first couple of weeks if it’s digging into the heels. Can also work the material with your hands a bit to help with this!
Got it. Yeah was a bit disappointed but I know better than jumping into heavy sled workout for first wear lol. Thanks for the reply.
Happened to me too. I had a knit before and wanted more traction, the trail destroyed my foot and I WANTED this shoeeee. Debating going up a size. It was the top of my big toe joint that was rubbing.
I had the same thing with the front of the Primus 3. I was hoping the knits would fix it, but they didn't have it available to try at the local store.

How do these shoes compare with the geo racer knits?
Pretty similar! Soles are comparable and the Geo Racer Knit is similar to the Primus Lite Knit, but has a traditional boot construction whereas the Primus has a bootie-style boot!
@@thatfitfriend Does the geo racer knits also run long too?
@@bilaltahir9978 a bit, yeah, but not as long. Lite Knit’s toe is longer!
For me, the tongue of the primus lite knit gets in the way of my ankles getting sufficient dorsiflexion in my squats. Plan on trying the primus lite iii. Anyone else experience this issue?
I could see that. How much room do you have at the end of your toe box? Wonder if the toe break/length also play a role in this for you
About 1/2-3/4 of an inch in the toe box. Do you think going down a size would alleviate the issue?
I've got the same issue with these. They're pretty tight around my ankles. I'm debating between returning vs seeing if it loosens up. The Geo Racer Knit definitely loosened over time and had a similar construction.
Which vivo would be better for everyday wear and to use for standing and walking to work in? I tried the Lems but that hump on the heel part was throwing me off and I didn’t get that barefoot feel from them. They kinda gave me knee pain and heel pain i still felt kinda elevated and not all the way even with the ground
