Are there brands of shoes that make standard shoes that just have a foot shaped toe box, zero drop but not squishy? Can imagine traditional shoe makers making comfortable shoes that don't necessarily have a barefoot feel but take elements of the proper toe box and no drop, even with more padding
I can tell you two things from a life time of running in all different kind of terrains, once your knees are damaged (like mine with cartilage damage). 1st: if you continue running, you'll end up semi crippled, 2nd: if you use shoes without cushioning (even for walking after the damage) you'll make the damage even worse. The other bit of advice is give up running when your 50 and use bike instead, I kept on running until I was 62 and then next day after a good 8 mile run (last 4 miles 7 min/miles) I could hardly walk. No indication, no prior warning, they just went; sometimes you get a warning that something is going wrong (which many fanatical runners like me would have ignored anyway, I suspect). A year after that my left foot arch collapsed, probably due to the compensating way I was now walking. The next mistake I made was following the suggestions of another runner and use bare foot shoes for walking, this exacerbate everything and then some. Six years later and now I require the support of shopping trolley to get round the supermarket to make it tolerable, I can walk on pavement for around 5 minutes, I can walk on soft surfaces like grass and sand for a couple of miles but that's about it. I bought a pair of Cloudmonster running shoes a month back and found that they make it significantly easier to walk on hard surfaces, you can draw your own conclusions from that, Cloudmonster are about the most cushioned shoes you can get.
So for a person who is flat-foot, would you say at a younger age it is better to transition to barefoot shoes rather than later? I am currently making the decision and I don't want to put it off until I start seeing problems in my 40's
But did you strength train throughout your running career? Or you just did all running? I wonder if you supplemented your running with strength training then your knees would hold up?
I was a mixed martial artist, rock climber, trail and hill runner, so I trained using calisthenics, Pilates and yoga and I also used weights and resistance cables, it varied depending on what discipline I was focusing on at the time. There is not much I haven't done and there isn't much I don't know either, since I started competing in Karate first when I was 12, I've never stopped training, I now cycle around 140 miles on the road per week and I also cycle to the gym each alternate day for weights and yoga and I also include some knees over toes workouts. But walking along a pavement is torturous, so there is no point in doing holidays, no sight seeing anymore and sitting around a pool or beach was never my scene. You reap what you sow at the end of the day. The point is this though, now that my knees are damaged, why is that that cushioned soles make a significant difference as to how far and how well I can walk? If I attempt to even walk across the road to my daughters house, about a hundred yards from me, in a pair of my old barefoot shoes, I'm hobbling immediately, why that?
The Primus trail ii are seriously the best pair of shoes I've owned...I started wearing only sandals back in the mid 90s and barefoot shoes around 2008{ish}...While living in Bolivia {5 yrs} I pretty much hiked all kinds of high mountains in Chaco sandals and the local Abarca sandals...This would be a perfect shoe for pretty much any mountain to base camp approach shoe...Also these shoes look like a cool pair of indoor soccer shoes...And the outer sole is the closest thing to a Vibram sole quality that Ive seen...
I bought the tracker fg boots in the snow as well Very waterproof very great boots but the laces made my feet sore because I’m now so used to my ankle being free I recommend loosening the laces right out and only tying them up to the top of your foot not your ankle 👍
Hey, great showdown! Update on what you kept and how which pairs performed would be valuable. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the 'clowny' look. They don't look like that at all... it's a matter of getting used to the look of the wider toe box, but few days on they'll look normal to you. And other people don't even see them the way you do cause only you have protective from straight up. .. May they all serve you well
@@ShervinShares nice one man, I've been in vivos for like 6 years but have mostly older models cause they update their lines fairly regularly and if you have more pairs, they're not so easy to wear out, means I'm stuck with them for a while lol, and so.. I'm not so familiar with the newer models but surely zeroing on on some!! ... And the white Addis you chose are among them, the other ones, and I think you'd like them too are their geo courts, and they have quite a modern and clean fashion sneaker look so a lots of people's favourites..
I love the Ababa. So comfortable, simple. A truly minimalist shoe. Also they fit loose enough that my feet dont smell. I wish they still made them. Or do they? You never know.
Hello Shervin, may I know what size do you use for Converse and Adidas shoes (EUR)? I am looking to get a Scott III but still haven't figured out the sizing. Thanks!
I have four pairs of the model primus lite and to me they are FAAAAAR WAY BETTER than the primus lite II and III. However I bought a single pair of the primus lite II and I realized that this model had worsened from my point of view. Great review
5 star video. Very very helpful! One question about the sizing. I have a size 11 for the primus lite 3 and I would like to get the scots. I feel that the 11 is slightly big for me like half size bigger. Do you suggest getting half size down or the same size because of the padding on the scots? Thanks
Which did you wind up keeping? And which, if any, are favs now in your regular rotation? I have the Forest ESC boots, have used them in every condition I bought them for -- wet, mud, rocky-rooty mountain trail, property chores in woods & pasture, snow-slush, and even slick ice with WinterTrax on them -- and love them more every time I use them.
@@aries_tottle5551 I went by the sizing info on the vivobarefoot website and the fit came out just right. As for which model, that really depends on your use. The Magna version wasn't out yet for me, but I'm glad to have the ankle scuff/scrape protection of the boot top for working around downed trees, and they are more waterproof-able being leather all the way up. What kinds of use are you planning for?
@1:14 Thats what I think about those people who think they look like clown shoes. "Normal" shoes are far too narrow for my feet and become uncomfortable. These are not their feet so they can treat their feet by binding them for all I care. If you do not know what foot binding is, I suggest that you look it up. It was done for beauty, so if others think they look like clown shoes, think about how wide toe beds will become the norm in the future.
I’m a woman with a EE. I can’t wear womens shoes except in vibram 5 fingers. I wear mens 7.5 EE Ariat pull on work boots for life. Vibrams for work and running in the desert. I’m really glad I don’t care about looks!!! But in my situation I can’t. Comfort and safety is always more important
Hi Shervin! Great content, thanks so much! Can you please compare the size of @ PRIMUS TRAIL II FG and @ PRIMUS TRAIL KNIT FG ? And possibly also Primus Lite III? I have Lite and Trail FG in the same size and Trail FG seems significantly smaller than Lite (length-wise), so I am cautious before ordering Trail Knit version.
Which shoes did you keep? I bought the Gobi II in brown. I love them so much that I have the black ones on the way. I also have the Primus III for the gym and the Ababa for kicking around the house.
Primus III are my fave, white ones came back in stock & I just bought them. I kept the brown boots, white clown shoes, and thats it. I returned the rest. I would love to get the Gobi shoes again

Thanks for the comprehensive spread. I am moving to Manhattan as a PhD student (I can afford only one shoe). I need to walk 3 miles a day, cycle when I get one. What would you suggest!? Assuming they need to have insulation and some casual feel. Thanks again for your video :)
that's a good question! it all depends on your style. I think one of the boots or weather-proof shoes. Since it does get windy & rainy in manhattan so ideally something that'll protect you from that. You can also buy the shoes refurbished!
@@ShervinShares thanks for the response. I ordered the full black leather/wool Magna Forest Esc a couple of days ago. I stumbled on revivo concept only yesterday. I will keep an eye on it if the Magna doesn't fit my needs. Cheers :)
If you think those white Addis shoes look like clown shoes, you should see my top down view of my Bohempia Okriks. They're the barefoot dupe for Converse chuck taylors x Krusty the Clown shoes. But hey, I'm saving myself from bunion surgery in a few years, so clown chic it is.
If it has that thermal insole label on it, it should come with the insole. No idea what's going on with vivos American distribution network. Boxes being shipped in that state and things being missing is very sketch
Like my magna light vivos. But like to buy an all around work and hanging out shoe. Thin i buy the desert boot. Look like Clark boots but barefoot. Thanks for all the shoes to review. I dont have $2500 to try them.
I'm scared of this video, because I just ordered my FIRST barefoot shoe, that being a Vivobarefoot.. trail... weather..something. So let's see if I made a decent choice!
I would like to see a video where you wear the white ‘clown’ shoes out and about - perhaps with a hidden camera to see if you catch anyone checking them
Great Video. How was the sizing between models? i bought Primus light in 43 and its a bit tight and Gobi and Tracker FG in 44 and they feel a bit loose. Not sure if i should size up or down...
that's a tough one, honestly i'd go a size up & tie the shoes tighter. i'd rather not have my feet feeling like they're getting compressed by shoes that are too small
I can’t decide wether to buy the Primus Lite III’s or the Trail FG 2’s, both in black. Like I want to have an everyday shoe that looks kind of subtle, and I want to both use it as a gym shoe and as a running shoe. The running will be on road, trail and track, and I plan to also use them in my everyday life. Any help or interjections would be gravely appreciated.
Primus Lite III is HANDS DOWN my favorite shoe - I have 2 pairs that I wear everyday. I workout, daily wear, and hiked with them. They are not the best for cold weather, but still work. Trail FG 2's are nice, but personally do not like the look as much. Not my taste
@@ShervinShares Really appreciate your answer! That’s exactly my throwback with the Trail FG 2’s, they’re not as “stylish” as the Lite III’s, but they’re probably more suitable for harsher everyday usage and trail running. Will probably go for the Primus lite III’s; they’re probably the most common ones and more suitable for everyday and all round wear. Thanks!
@@ShervinShares i went for the Trail FG 2’s now, the Primus Lite III’s were out of stock and the Trail ones seem more suitable for the weather where I live.
OMG my primus lite didn't survive even one year. I always seem to have a problem with getting holes in my soles. Was this like the only pair you were wearing (except for special ocasions and winter) or did you switch with other pairs?
Thanks for this video, I can't justify the price with how any pair looks. Of course I'm not touching them but the visual quality for me doesn't line up with the prices they have.
You needed to keep the Tracker FG’s also. I literally look forward to putting my feet in them at the beginning of the day & then hold off on taking them off at the end of the day. It’s like my feet are being lovingly hugged all day. Lol
Bought a pair of Tracker Forest ESC from the Amazon reseller Legend Footware who seems to be a ghost, no way to contact them other than their email address which bounces back. Wore them on weekends for 2 months. Then an eyelet pulled out, no way to fix. Legend has 100 day return policy, but amazon only 30 days. Vivobarefoot says contact reseller and refuses to make good on their shoes. Other than being a little too narrow, I liked the shoes, they were holding up well until the eyelet pulled out. Nice shoes, bad company. I expected more from such expensive shoes.
Thanks for the video, Shervin! Did you size up for the vivos? In particular the TRACKER FOREST ESC, PRIMUS TRAIL KNIT FG, and MAGNA FG? I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the toe box either rubbing their pinkies (for their nor mal size) or too loose if they size up.
Vivos definitely aren't the widest of barefoot brands and depending on your foot shape, or how long you've been in barefoot footwear, they may not be for you. Personally, size 8 US mens is the perfect length (without insole) but much too narrow for my toe splay. However, I do love their boots and sizing up to a 10 US men's fits a thermal insole and socks nicely. Weird how that works. Shame cause while I have shoes from other brands that I love, still nothing comes close to the aesthetic of vivos.
Those “moldy” shoes aren’t actually moldy. Thats called “bloom” and it what happens to full grain leather when it sits for a long time in a dark and warm area. It’s the oils and waxes used in the tanning process being pulled back to the top. Rubbing them with your bare hands would be enough to get them back to normal.
Thanks for you videos dude! I have been reading about barefoot shoes for a bit. I have had knee and back issues my entire life from sport injuries. I have been looking at the tracker forest se for every single day use and for hiking since I live in Colorado.
I recommend starting with some altras, maybe something like the superiors (which dont have as much cushion), them transition to a pair of lems, and then xero shoes/vivo etc

Can you help me? 😭 I would like to shop my first Vivobarefoot shoes but I have to do it online (no stores here) and have no enough money to order 2 sizes together. My foot is 27.5cm (I'm a man). I would like to take a Primus Trail model or a Tracker II FG and I would use them daily and to hike. Can you suggest the right size for me? 😭 Sorry for this sad message (ahah!).
Can i wear the trail knit FG everyday the same way you would with the primus lite knit and get the same barefoot benefits or is one better than the other?
Thanks for the video, I have slowed down the speed to .75 for a better look at the shoes, but I'd love it if you could slow down just a bit when you show them from all angles and use fewer cuts as it can be distracting or disorienting. Great video otherwise, thanks again!
@@ShervinShares really? That is surprising since my foot is fairly wide. I love the style. I can dress them up or down with some nice jeans. I wore them with a kilt to my wedding. The leather is stiff and I'm looking forward to how the age with wear and time. I also love eventually I can change out and replace the sole when it's bad.
@@ShervinShares I've been eyeing those vivobarefoot boots with the red laces for a long time. Might be my next purchase as my hiking boots are on the way out.
I havent tried any, yet. But vivo is on the bottom of my list. I dont really like most of their styles, they are really expensive, and I dont want shoes made with plastic/polyester as its not breathable and holds smell. I only plan on getting one casual everyday pair for now. And then add a dress shoe, and a walking shoe/sandal. Once I have a pair for every occasion, all my other shoes will go bye bye.

I bought the tracker fg boots in the snow as well
Very waterproof very great boots but the laces made my feet sore because I’m now so used to my ankle being free
I recommend loosening the laces right out and only tying them up to the top of your foot not your ankle 👍
Hey, great showdown! Update on what you kept and how which pairs performed would be valuable. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the 'clowny' look. They don't look like that at all... it's a matter of getting used to the look of the wider toe box, but few days on they'll look normal to you. And other people don't even see them the way you do cause only you have protective from straight up. .. May they all serve you well
yes I will update on the shoes I kept, and the ones I wear everyday, and my overall experience. I've been wearing Vivo's off & on for 2-3 years now
I kept 1 boots & the white shoes at the end. I wear Primus Lite III the most, they're hands down my favorite & I wear the most.
I have a few pairs of vivos. Primus lites are great. The least comfortable are those "clown" shoes which look way better in black.
Went to look for the laces on your original pair of Primus Lites in description, but didn't see them. Do you know what they are called?
Xpand Laces! Oops, I’ll add a link later today
Xpand Laces: amzn.to/3rS7fhx
I love the Ababa. So comfortable, simple.
A truly minimalist shoe.
Also they fit loose enough that my feet dont smell.
I wish they still made them. Or do they?
You never know.
I'm desperate for a pair of white Ababa's. Can't find em anywhere
Dang. That's the first time I've seen mold on leather shoes.
i know... I think it rained in transit & something happened while it was internationally being transported
Rather unfortunate! 🤔
My favourites are: PL III, RA III, and Scott III. Waiting on Scott III's to get in-stock now.
Great video, so helpful… regarding the Scott lll did you go up a size?
Hello Shervin, may I know what size do you use for Converse and Adidas shoes (EUR)? I am looking to get a Scott III but still haven't figured out the sizing. Thanks!
I have four pairs of the model primus lite and to me they are FAAAAAR WAY BETTER than the primus lite II and III. However I bought a single pair of the primus lite II and I realized that this model had worsened from my point of view. Great review
Super interesting! The originals of anything are always better the revisions 😂
Awesome video! Thanks for doing this. I hate buying vivos, waiting weeks to receive only to decide I did not like the fit or look.
Wow thank you so much for this video 👍
I am definitively going for the primus trail knit fg in black with the gum soles 😛
Hello, I'm thinking about purchasing one of the boot styles. Just curious if you had any issues with your heel slipping on any of these?
What size do you recommend? I’m an 11.5. Also I’m in between buying the Forest ESC or the magna ESC
#MakeClownShoesCool
We just need to change social norms!
Thankyou so much . I'm looking to buy my first pair so trying to do as much research as possible.
I returned most of them!! But hopefully in a future video
Just wear the vivo red nose that comes with the clown shoes. Great video. These are so much nicer than zero shoes
Good review.!!! The most helpful so far.
RA II and MAGNA FG for me. Maybe the SCOTT III Eco. Gonna check these out.
Yeee start with 1 pair of barefoot shoes! Slowly transition :)
The Forest boots aren't for the snow, they aren't waterproofed. You're better off with the tracker II's
really good to know! thank you!
@@ShervinShares you returned the forest esc hiking boot??
Those Vibrofeet shoes man, those got to be the most juicyest kicks to ever get my loins bustin. The fit g flex of the Vibro shoe jacks me off to number eleven, Hoobruh. Thanks for vibin with the VibroMaster and quietly designate the reign
😮
Oh wow!
I want those black Magna FG with gum soles SO BADDD
but i can’t find them my size anywhere
Did you find Upping size in the tracker to be needed?
yes I'm happy I did
Great video! I’m interested in the Scott III, but can’t find them anywhere:/ where did you order yours?
Which country? Vivo is usually always changing their stock: www.vivobarefoot.com/au/scott-iii-mens
If it has that thermal insole label on it, it should come with the insole. No idea what's going on with vivos American distribution network. Boxes being shipped in that state and things being missing is very sketch
whattt you're not the first person to say this
great video :)
which do you prefer, Primus Lite II or Primus Lite III? Not enough of a difference to matter?
Am up to 8 pairs so far runners and dresses shoes, size 15 USA if you like some of the older type shoes you should try revivo
Revivo!! I will check that out. I see the ads, but never look on the site yet
And that’s a lot of shoes!! Nice!
Me love the detail video mate! Me bought 2 pairs. One for everyday use & one for training.
Great video dude! Super helpful! So, do I have to grow a mustache to transition to barefoot shoes😂!?!
Have you tried Carets shoes and boots? They are very classy barefoot shoes but not in my size sadly
Great video. But what's with everyone refers the the ground as "the floor". It's called the ground when you are outside.
I would like to see a video where you wear the white ‘clown’ shoes out and about - perhaps with a hidden camera to see if you catch anyone checking them
Ahhh yes! I’ve thought about doing this in NYC. Thank you! I will definitely have to make this
How do they fit? Did you go down size or upsize or the same? TIA.
Looking to get into these. This is very helpful vid.
been using gobi shoe for more than 2 years so yeah, I can reccommend they are very durable
I feel like these shoes can last a lifetime
Great Video. How was the sizing between models? i bought Primus light in 43 and its a bit tight and Gobi and Tracker FG in 44 and they feel a bit loose. Not sure if i should size up or down...
that's a tough one, honestly i'd go a size up & tie the shoes tighter. i'd rather not have my feet feeling like they're getting compressed by shoes that are too small
Just put in an order for the Scott III's, i was on the fence, but seeing them on foot had me sold.
What type of socks should you wear with this type of shoe. If you go barefoot they will smell
So bummed your Gobi ii were moldy. They are my default dress shoes 2/3rds of the year. I love love them!!!
You needed to keep the Tracker FG’s also. I literally look forward to putting my feet in them at the beginning of the day & then hold off on taking them off at the end of the day. It’s like my feet are being lovingly hugged all day. Lol
Ahhh I should’ve! Maybe I’ll buy them again in the future. Ideally I like shoes I can slip on with no effort
Love my green FG’s most comfortable boots ever, and keep your feet toasty even in Minnesota!
How do they demonstrably differ from water shoes?
So would you recommend to go a size up on the tracker? I like to have about a half a inch in front of my toes. So I'm just wondering
yes i'd follow Vivo's recommendation. also worth ordering two sizes & return the one that doesn't fit
The Addis and Ababa are definitely wider than most mainstream Vivo models, aren’t they?
@Austin Dean usually I wear 9-9.5
No haha. That’s straight up mold. You can see that the entire shoe box is damaged as well. Something happenings during shipping…
@@mattiullahbarekzaie6942 thanks for the reply dude! Much appreciated. The vivo tracker forest se boots went on sale not long after I wrote that for 200! I have been wearing them everyday since and love them! Thanks for the content and reply. Have a good one.
I wear US 11 2E for my running shoes. What's your advice for sizing for Vivo barefoot shoes?
What expansion laces do you recommend?
Omg, very useful, thank you very much!
Can you help me? 😭
I would like to shop my first Vivobarefoot shoes but I have to do it online (no stores here) and have no enough money to order 2 sizes together.
My foot is 27.5cm (I'm a man). I would like to take a Primus Trail model or a Tracker II FG and I would use them daily and to hike.
Can you suggest the right size for me? 😭
Sorry for this sad message (ahah!).
heyyy! I would print the Vivobarefoot Size guide linked below!! It's really hard to say what would be right:
www.vivobarefoot.com/us/size-guide
The beginning of this video reminds me so much of Imelda Marcos, ha, ha. Great video.
There don’t appear to be any half sizes in the Ababa. I’m a 9.5. Should I get a size 9 or 10?
what kind of socks do you wear with these?
To hard to choice the black one or the other black one, but definitely I like the black one... Cool vid btw
Your thoughts on fit would have been good as well.
I love my Thursday boots! I got the wide version though and it's got plenty of space in the toe box
Ahh I tried the wide version. Still felt tight! Maybe I should get a size bigger.
What do you love about them most? Style? Comfort?
@@ShervinShares really? That is surprising since my foot is fairly wide. I love the style. I can dress them up or down with some nice jeans. I wore them with a kilt to my wedding. The leather is stiff and I'm looking forward to how the age with wear and time. I also love eventually I can change out and replace the sole when it's bad.
@@ShervinShares I've been eyeing those vivobarefoot boots with the red laces for a long time. Might be my next purchase as my hiking boots are on the way out.
I’m going to buy the moldy shoe! Nice texture to it.
So which shoes are the best? You havent answered the question in your title!!!
Anyone please share your experience between PRIMUS TRAIL II FG and PRIMUS TRAIL KNIT FG! I want to get a pair that more durable and versatile. THANKs!
You may like Birchbury Bramford. Looks like a better deal than vivos, has a wide toe nox and not so clownish.
thank you shervin! amazing review!
thank you Daniel! what other info do you want to see about Vivobarefoot?
@@ShervinShares How barefoot shoes look with different type of pants/jeans, definitely 💪😆
What pants/slacks are you wearing?
Love the design the mold gave to the shoes. Maybe there's a design idea there. Very Woodstock-y.
LOL
@@ShervinShares which one of these would you use for treadmill/flat pavement running?
Primus trail II Knit are actually my everyday go to shoes 🔥, love 'em and I've abandoned all my sneakers!! 🤣
Hi Shervin! Culd you tell me please what is your feet size length in mm?
