Oh wow. This is the best Smash guide I've ever seen. I've been playing for almost 7 years but I've never encountered such a detailed, well worded, and accessible tutorial. Izaw, you are really something special!
It's good you're getting these done and out of the way before going into character tutorials, since there's still plenty of stuff we are still learning about each character and match-up. Still can't wait for the first Ultimate Art of Link video! Palutena is quickly becoming one of my surprise favourites in this game as well so it'd be cool when her vid comes as well.

IzAw has to be one of, if not the best content creator for the competitive Smash community. Not only are your videos absolutely brimming with informative, valuable, well-researched and important advice, but they are well organized, very aesthetically pleasing, and held at an absurdly high quality standard Love your channel, IzAw. I was just looking for ways to improve my neutral game and this video is just what I needed for this and to help me improve my playing in general. I’m looking forward to the next one!
Dude.... Thanks for this. I just picked up smash and I don't understand the game at all. I have a fighting game background but this ..... This is a whole other beast. I really needed this 😭
This is a great series, its sometimes hard to grasp the game just by playing and most guides will be character specific and will cover just neutral and some combos, so thanks for this.
I love you man, Im aware of most of this information however there are a group of friends im coaching and this video is easily digestible with amazing information. Thank you for all your hard work please keep it up.
Crazy that I've been doing all of these techniques shown in the Expert Guide and now Master Guide but I never knew the names of these techniques and only found out now 💀 Ledgetrapping and Neutral were the only ones I knew. This teaches me a lesson with experience that if I just keep playing and get better, guides can get outmatched by playtime. But of course guides and tutorials are still very helpful IzAw is goated 🔥
Been waiting for this one to come out. I found the "master" section to be much better this time around, mostly because of how much more it clarifies details of certain sections that smash 4s was more vague on, while at the same time succeeding to deconstruct neutral to be much easier to understand and learn for anyone. Excellent work, as always.
So glad you’ve continued this series. The smash 4 versions not only helped me improve by a large margin but also really helped for when people would ask me questions about what they should be doing to get better. These are even better than the smash four variants, and are an incredibly valuable resource. As soon as I have a more disposable income then I currently do, you’ll be the first creator I support on patreon.
Very well made video izaw. Fighting games in general have very poor ways of teach the basics and higher levels of play. Many players suffer from not knowing stuff like whiff punishes and learning how to play neutral. Your video series are a god send and the research put in to them really shows quality.
This is my first smash game. This series has helped me so much in understanding the basics and even some advanced mechanics. I started off not knowing the controls of the game and this series has helped me so much. Continue the good work man, you have a crazy knack for teaching.
These series of videos are amazing Izaw, incredibly useful and well explained. With quality material like this I don't hesitate to like your videos, subscribe and even consider to give you some money on Patreon. Congratulations and thank you.
I've been keeping up with this channel since Smash 4 and I must say it's the best Smash Bros training/analysis channel that I've found on TH-cam. It's clear, well written, as brief as possible, and backed up with a neat and professional presentation, which makes it perfect to understand how exactly I should be looking at the game instead of trying to glue all of the critical thinking together with my very little to average level of knowledge.
This series is a blessing. Without it, many players would be lost looking though archives of technical terms and going from source to source trying to figure stuff out. Here, it’s neatly packed in one place to refer to whenever they like.
These are honestly so amazing for Rivals of Aether 2 for me too! These are the best Rivals 2 guides I have found so far, thanks for all this amazing content! This is like the Sakurai Breakdown, ultimate fundamentals of how to approach Platform Fighters
0:48 I feel like this is a common misconception when I started learning what neutral is and how to play it. Not every character's gameplan will revolve around spacing aerials. Link, for example revolves around boomerang and landing nair. There's also the misconception I had that the opponent is just gonna stand there and shield as you wait to space an attack. They might roll or move in a way that your aerial could miss and catch you off guard. In summary this video and a lot of other videos kind of paint neutral as just spacing aerials on shield which isnt really a good gameplan for some characters and is not always what neutral will boil down to in a match.
The video examples you give while explaining difficult topics like "neutral" and "shield pressure" are top notch Izaw. As someone who knows how hard it is to explain deep topics like neutral and pressure, you did an amazing job. Amazing work on this episode
This is by far the best guide I've ever seen for Smash obviously better than anything for 4 and even for all the new Ultimate guides out there. Great job man
These videos are beyond fantastic. Well done, thorough, and most importantly utterly -useful-. It's reasons like this why smash is such a great game, having people like you in the community is a real tangible benefit. I quit melee a few years ago and all the other games I've dabbled in since then just haven't had the same quality and outstanding level of contribution that smashers have. Now getting into smash ultimate, these videos have been extremely helpful. Thanks for making them.
Thank you for making this series of videos. As a casual player coming for 2d fighting games, I found these incredibly informative and helpful. I can't believe smash only has that how to play video as a tutorial. Your videos do justice to complexity of this game. 👍
I really loved this video. You not only made this feel entirely different to the other Art of Smash Master Guide for Smash 4 but it still discusses neutral like the old one. Awesome job, Izaw! To this day, I still watch the old Art of Smash videos since some of them can still apply to Ultimate.
This is by far the best video you've released yet. Video quality is through the roof! The pacing and introduction of concepts and explanations is so on point. Another masterpiece.
