Thank you for sharing these techniques,IzawSmash.I have practiced some of your shared techniques to be honest 😊 I’m also very thankful for the muscle memory topic 😊
as someone who teaches guitar i'd recommend training each exercise for 5 minutes, that's how long our attention span is, if you do this daily you'll get it in muscle memory very quickly
You can further enhance this by embracing the concept of short term memory. Your hippocampus replays the past 20 minutes of high intensity brain activity as a survival mechanism. You can play for an hour a day by doing intense and focused training for 20 minutes, doing something else or playing some other quick game like a game of risk of rain two or something, the get back to smash and do it again and think of one 20 minutes as a rep

Izaw, you hands down have the best videos for getting better at Smash Ultimate. Seriously, you are a masterful teacher, thank you so much. You have definitely helped me and many others become and continue to become better players
This series has been so direct, so clear, so demonstrative, and so educational. A lot of people make guides that are good enough. These guides are great. Thanks for all you do!
This is exactly what I needed. I've recently learned OF a bunch of techniques for Smash, but nothing on how you would practice them, and I couldn't get good results on my own. I'll probably be coming back to this video quite a lot in future as I learn how to pull this stuff off.
Took the words out of my mouth! Completely deserves a like, I can already tell that I have some steps mastered but I still have some others that I still don't really know how to pull off. This is *exactly* the video I needed to see!
Just some quick clarification at 3:09. When he says “Tap back before you jump,” he means that you tap back before your character leaves the ground after pressing the jump button. Edit: With the 2.0.0 update you can now press two jump buttons at the same time to short hop! Edit 2: Backflip is a misleading term. All characters can perform what IzAw describes as a backflip. It just looks different for every character. Mario actually does a backflip while Link sort of just winces in the opposite direction. The important thing is that your character immediately starts to drift backwards after performing the input.
This might be the best quality content I have ever seen for competitive smash training. The only channels that can come close are "My Smash Corner" and "Beefy Smash Doods", but I still think this takes the cake. Seriously, great work Izaw!
I thought I was good at the game, but then I couldn't do the first exercise. I've been at it for the past hour and I've got the first 4 down. This is some really great content.
It's alright, some are slower learners than others. I deal with this too, but it also has to do with specifically what it is so I can't say for sure if you're like me lol
it's almost unbelievable the amount of care that's gone into this series. Everything is great, but I REAALLY appreciate you letting the short hop exercises go their full duration. I think everybody can use that entire section on repeat as a dance partner to tighten their training. If I can suggest something, Izaw... Could do exactly that? record your 15min training session with no cuts and perhaps a simple timer countdown edited in to begin each exercise? A literal workout video with your most moderate character. You could be cute and do it on omega wii fit stage. Am I off base here? You think this will help?

This is incredible! I've started going through these one at a time. I inserted my own very challenging alternative to 3:15. Back flipping back and forth. It's possible to instantly turn around and backflip, but it requires something like a Street Fighter quarter circle motion upward upon landing. I was able to short hop fast fall backflip then immediately turn around and do it again in reverse. This video is encouraging me to practice fine tuning my movement so much!
DUUUUUUUUUUDE these are AMAZING videos. Thank you so so so much! I haven't found another series that teaches the basics better than you. I appreciate it!
Honestly Izaw i can't say it enough you're one big reason why players improve to a point where you are, what I believe, a sensai for smash creating future smash masters! Good job bro!
Once I finally started feeling comfortable with basic movement / short hopping consistently I came up with this devious exercise: Go to the Training stage, and pay attention to where on the grid you are standing. now short hop exactly 1 "square" on the grid (10 mini squares), and then back to the starting position. the second time, do two squares, then proceed until you've reached the max horizontal short-hop distance of your character. I main Lucina, so her max is 5.

I’ve switched mains to the point where I’ve mained every fighter except piranha plant 😅. With this very helpful video, ive gained the motivation to practice.Thank you so much.
Dude I can't even express how much your videos have helped me learn, understand and grow as a smash player. I came back into smash near the early to mid-life of smash 4 with my only experience with the game being me playing brawl at my cousin's house for hours on end at the age of like 8 al the way to the age of like 11 at an extremely casual level. Because of that lack of experience and knowledge, I didn't anything about smash except the VERY bare minimum, like less than what the instruction guide at beginning of the game will teach you. After getting eviscerated online countless times and being told by a smash-tuber that I wasn't going to able to get better because the smash community was very hostile to new players trying to learn, I ended up dropping the game for a long time. I wasn't till a year or two before ultimate got announced that I randomly picked the game back up and unsurprisingly I was still hot ass. But then I found your channel a couple of months before ultimate's announcement and started watching your videos, and oh my lord, I can't tell you how much shit I learned for watching your guides that I never knew existed. I slowly found my self becoming better and better to the point where I could finally take a stock off a person online. Now I'm at a point where I can play at a pretty competitive level and defeat most casuals and lvl 9 cpus regularly and put up a fight against someone who's somewhat experienced at the game. I still got a long way to go but I just wanna thank you for helping get at this level with your magnificently made and edited videos. They helped a shit-ton and I hope it helps others as much as helped me.
This is by far one of the BEST how to train vids out on youtube... Honestly! You go in to such great depth on the subject! I haven't had the privilege of playing Smash Ultimate yet so I'm currently stuck with Smash WiiU, however I have started to incorporate what I learnt here (only what I could...) into my training... And It's really helped! Thanks Izaw... Your a legend.
You have no idea how much I recommend you to players on stream. Love your tutorials man. I owe everything I've learned to your series, ever since your Smash 4 iterations. Keep it up man!
I can’t begin to tell you how much your voice, teaching style, audio, visuals, and overall video-making effort put a smile on my face. I love watching these. They are by far the most helpful and great-to-watch Smash tutorials on TH-cam, and I find it as no question at all that you are the absolute best Smash teacher!
This is why whenever I look at the comment section in some other Smash Ultimate videos and see, "How do I get better at the game?" I always recommend Izaw. There's literally no other youtube Smash guides where the information is presented not only expertly, but so clearly and concise with its multiple applications. I always learn something new from your videos, thanks for the wonderful guides Izaw!
Hey Izaw I just wanted to say thx for helping us and putting all ur knowledge into these type of vids I rlly love ur channel (And link lol) and all ur art of smash vids in smash 4 I watch the art of link like 10 times and was rlly good wit him all bc of u I'm still struggling but I will always keep watch to get better thx for everything man
IzawSmash, your channel has single-handedly inspired me to get better at the game. For months I went to locals and was also seeded low because I only got practice with local 'pros' beating me up. but now with this video and the rest of the art of Smash Series, I can better learn match-ups and better learn my character (Roy/Terry). Thank you.
Been watching your videos for years and playing smash for 18 years and learned some decent things. Only just started fully applying myself during this lockdown and it feels great to feel results. Thanks for taking the time and effort to explain these things you truly are a master at this.
This is the best video to ever be released on Smash. Your training videos are the only one worth watching on TH-cam and that's not an exaggeration. Subscribed.
Been playing smash for years but never tried to get good other than to have fun with friends and family, these videos have been an immense help! Just learning the fundamentals even if you cant do everything in this video is great starting point
I became an Ike main because of your Art of Ike video back in smash 4, as much as i loved that video and playing the character, I love these videos you posting lately so much. Learning so many really basic but fundamental skills from them. Keep it up!
Dude Izaw, I need to thank you for this video, it help me a lot. I wasn't good enough to get to Elite Smash (I know, it doesn't really matter that much) but, with these exercises I got to Elite Smash in literally two days of practice. Thanks
This video has great regimes on committing motion inputs to memory, useful for any game that has them. I think the intro will be the most replayed part.
Now THIS kind of stuff is why I subscribed. You seriously make some of the best content out there for beginners, and what you do for the community is phenomenal. Keep up the good work man, you deserve more!
Thank you so much, Izaw. I’ll definitely practice this often. I have one question though. You see, I main both Ken and Ryu and they have this auto turn mechanic so they can’t face the other direction of their opponent unless they are running in said direction or rawring. So some of these exercises just don’t work. Do I: A. Put the number of training CPUs to 2 and practice the exercises? (Since any more than one opponent will cancel out the auto turn-mechanic) or B. Not do those exercises at all? Since they wouldn’t be beneficial cause of the auto turn mechanic when playing since there’s no way I’d be able to casually jump towards my opponent with my back facing them. The Rawr followed by a back air would still be possible but not if I’m doing it from an initial dash cause it just doesn’t work with the auto turn-mechanic. Thanks in advance.
The hard thing is that lucina’s backflip is really hard to discern other than the amount of momentum she gets, so I had a hard time on the back flipping section
One tip to add to Downloading your opponent that i find very important but often overlooked is what your opponent's attacks change to when you start countering their normal routine. their "backup" attack style in other words. it's important to observe because everyone will change it up after they realize plan A isn't working anymore.
I started using this last night for a few hours. I feel the improvement already. It really is similar to an instrument! This is the most useful Smash video I have ever encountered. I cannot thank this man enough 🙏
Izaw! Appreciate such a helpful series. I am trying to get my short hops down to a tee when I learned that pressing two jump buttons at the same time also causes a short hop: I was wondering if that is a valid method of learning how to short hop, or should I just continue practicing on a single button?
Holy crap, I have never put as much effort into anything as you have into this video. And if that effort is a 10/10, the effort pro smashers put in must be like 110/10...
Yo this really helps me. On redit you channel got recommended and these help me way more than anything else I watched. The training thing you said in the vid makes so much sense
Just getting into the game, but seriously dude, this series & especially this video some super high level content man. Thank you for your time and help.
I thank you eternally by doing all these and being such a help and going out your way. I was an average elite smasher before going through these tutorials and after only a week I've been able to storm through entire servers on different apps. I thank that for you.

They helped a shit-ton and I hope it helps others as much as helped me.
This man knows how to teach and knows how to train. Very well made. Great insights
Okay finally a guide with precise exercises
Very good video !
And now back to training
You have no idea how much I recommend you to players on stream. Love your tutorials man. I owe everything I've learned to your series, ever since your Smash 4 iterations. Keep it up man!
I watched this about a month ago, and realized that I couldn’t do some of these, but then training like this really helped. Thank you
I can’t begin to tell you how much your voice, teaching style, audio, visuals, and overall video-making effort put a smile on my face. I love watching these. They are by far the most helpful and great-to-watch Smash tutorials on TH-cam, and I find it as no question at all that you are the absolute best Smash teacher!
I really wish this game showed the hitboxes of moves as well as the trajectory.
It does have a trajectory
@@themc73 They said as well as
I agree I came from brawlhalla that has all that I’m surprised smash doesn’t have that option
Martez Cogburn By “as well” I meant “in combination with” not “and”
Actually it does have an option to show trajectories there is an option that says "trajectory guide"
6:26 that music sync
I clicked the time and it gave me an ad XD
might even be an effective way to practice certain aerials mindlessly by just listening to the music?
Anyone gotta name for that track?
Hey Izaw I just wanted to say thx for helping us and putting all ur knowledge into these type of vids I rlly love ur channel (And link lol) and all ur art of smash vids in smash 4 I watch the art of link like 10 times and was rlly good wit him all bc of u I'm still struggling but I will always keep watch to get better thx for everything man
I’ve had 2 years of smash 4 online experience, I did practice combos but I never got these small steps down, thanks for the video
Thank you.
I think this is amazing video. I can already feel the carpal tunnel.
Been watching your videos for years and playing smash for 18 years and learned some decent things. Only just started fully applying myself during this lockdown and it feels great to feel results. Thanks for taking the time and effort to explain these things you truly are a master at this.
This is EXACTLY what I need
This is the best video to ever be released on Smash. Your training videos are the only one worth watching on TH-cam and that's not an exaggeration. Subscribed.
This video might be the best video of your channel
Been playing smash for years but never tried to get good other than to have fun with friends and family, these videos have been an immense help! Just learning the fundamentals even if you cant do everything in this video is great starting point
thank you so much for this. this is the stuff they DONT tell or teach you
I became an Ike main because of your Art of Ike video back in smash 4, as much as i loved that video and playing the character, I love these videos you posting lately so much. Learning so many really basic but fundamental skills from them. Keep it up!
thank you, this taught me how to short hop consistently
Dude Izaw, I need to thank you for this video, it help me a lot. I wasn't good enough to get to Elite Smash (I know, it doesn't really matter that much) but, with these exercises I got to Elite Smash in literally two days of practice. Thanks
Sensei.. I will start my training immediately
This video has great regimes on committing motion inputs to memory, useful for any game that has them. I think the intro will be the most replayed part.
In music class imma pull out my switch controller.
1:03 (for those of you who didn't watch that part).
Now THIS kind of stuff is why I subscribed. You seriously make some of the best content out there for beginners, and what you do for the community is phenomenal. Keep up the good work man, you deserve more!
More tutorials sweet I will give these excersise a shot gives me alot to do thanks my dude
You are a god, Izaw. As someone who is transitioning from traditional fighters to smash, this is amazing at giving me a blueprint to start with.

I fear no man, but that... *thing...*
*it scares me.*
Christian Caisley Ahhhh...TF2 references
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. No one has ever explained this as well as you have!
Thank you so much, Izaw. I’ll definitely practice this often. I have one question though. You see, I main both Ken and Ryu and they have this auto turn mechanic so they can’t face the other direction of their opponent unless they are running in said direction or rawring. So some of these exercises just don’t work. Do I:
A. Put the number of training CPUs to 2 and practice the exercises? (Since any more than one opponent will cancel out the auto turn-mechanic)
or
Mattias Rhawi Hey, since RAR stands for Reverse aerial rush, it’s r a r instead of hehe uwu rawr xd
Ethan Busse my bad it just sounded like he said rawr lol
I was training a while, but afterward, I did not know what to do anymore. Thank you for giving us the viewer more options for the training.
Your combos are sick
Never found smash tutorials this clear and in depth before, awesome stuff man!
It's really hard to do the link bomb combo in 0:42 . I tried for 15 minutes . I'm not giving up
Is that a true combo
@@MeikiVT yes
Yeah, that's a really cool combo. You can end it with dair as well as spin attack if you are at the ledge.
Can it be infinite?
@@PandaFan2443 it's all set knockback I think, so as long as you have infinite room, it's infinite.
That’s fine
This is exactly the kind of video I've been looking for no one really explains this game as good as you
Lemme just share this with my discord real quick
Holy crap, I have never put as much effort into anything as you have into this video. And if that effort is a 10/10, the effort pro smashers put in must be like 110/10...
Subbing to you was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Wish I found these vids months ago.. you actually explain all the button inputs and everything so well.. thank you!!!
OMG YOU KEEP READING MY MIND! HOW DO YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHAT I NEED? I LOVE YOU
Edit: no homo
with his giant forehead
Yo this really helps me. On redit you channel got recommended and these help me way more than anything else I watched. The training thing you said in the vid makes so much sense
Art of Mario Ultimate please? I would love to see that!
So would I please Izaw Art of character Ultimate series
Just getting into the game, but seriously dude, this series & especially this video some super high level content man. Thank you for your time and help.
God why are you the greatest man this side of heaven.
Thank you for the time and effort!! Content creators have to agree! Awesome series I watched from beginner all the way through!
thx so much for helping me in smash 4 and ultimate :D
Oh yeah yeah.
You are the best. Thorough, well spoken, direct, and very helpful. Will be doing this training until I'm as crisp as your videos.
Ike's Nair is so in almost perfect sync with the music at 6:29
I thank you eternally by doing all these and being such a help and going out your way. I was an average elite smasher before going through these tutorials and after only a week I've been able to storm through entire servers on different apps. I thank that for you.
0:42 Izaw please, that's too much
The " your fingers will do it for you" part or the combo with link?
@@orr4337 I thought it was pretty obvious, but I'm talking about the combo
@@forevorseal Just kidding
@@orr4337 oh it's fine
