He does have many special tools that change how he can approach and condition you. It pays to understand how, and what to do against it. All in all, you have a great attitude.
I think you also should've touched on combos into forward air. Mario has some very deadly combos that end with forward air. Basically if your opponent is around 50% you can hit them with an short hop up air followed by another up air, then fastfall and lastly full hop forward air. Hitting a short hop up air in neutral is not very optimal, but luckily there are a lot of ways to get it in combos. Down throw and down tilt work at around 40%. Probably Mario's best combo is down throw at around 29% into short hop up air, followed by a neutral air, then fast fall, run up, short hop up air, up air, fastfall, full hop forward air. Also possible is fastfall back air, run up down tilt, short hop up air, up air, fastfall, full hop forward air. If you feel like you're going to miss the forward air in one because the opponent DI-s in you can always go for a short/full hop up air, which can lead into more up airs and an up special. It's actually good if the opponent DI-s away, because then the forward air becomes easier to hit. If you are having trouble getting the full hop forward air out on time you can also go for short hop forward air, but that's a bit harder to land. I feel like this where Mario's meta should be pushed to, but I haven't seen a lot of top players do this kind of stuff sadly. Please let this be known be giving this comment a like. (yes ik I'm kinda begging for likes rn but I want this to be known) (and also because I spent way to much time typing out this comment)
This was super informative and I'm sure a ton of work went into it. Very well done in general. I don't play Mario but of course I'll watch anyway because it's interesting to see an Art Of video anyday. I do have some criticism though (for lack of a better word). This video has massive amount of information, but personally I find it hard to follow since I don't have that great of an attention span (I'm sure many others suffer from the same thing). The style you take is not necessarily bad, it just might be impractical for a large portion of your viewers. When humour is introduced, however, it is very easy for me to stay engage and absorb all the information that someone gives me. For example, Art of Dedede for Smash 4 was a great video, and I was able to stay focused on it and absorb all the information in that video. Anyway, this isn't a major issue or anything considering I can just pause and play the parts that I didn't pay attention to, but is food for thought regardless. With all that being said, you have easily some of the most informative and accurate smash videos on youtube and I am super glad you exist. Cheers my dude.
Yo, Izaw. I'm a Mario main and a member of the Mario discord recently, and this video helped my Mario improve. Thanks for the guide! Also, can you do Palutena and/or Zelda and/or Bayonetta next?
Awesome video! One bit of tech that Izaw missed: you can change the angle of Mario's up special by pressing forward or back on the control stick after the initial input. Pressing the stick in the direction of the recovery will increase his horizontal recovery but decrease his vertical recovery. Pressing away from the direction of the recovery will increase vertical recovery and decrease horizontal recovery.
Amazing video… The only thing ‘potentially missed’, was switch up options if you are trying to recover as Mario (minus what you covered with backward side b, into back air). Learning to be comfortable with using wall jumps all the time, not only looks sick, but also creates for some more aggressive options around the ledge - wether it is being able to ledge guard a little lower, into a drifting wall jump (up-b to recover), or wall jump just high enough above the ledge into immediate back air to punish close ledge contesting. This can be done safely if you do it unpredictably and/or learn to drift backwards a little bit back onto the edge from being above it. The other CRUCIAL, recovery option while on ledge is a rising down-a. It is an astonishingly fast option from the ledge, feeling instant. You can do this back onto the ledge for safety if you miss (be careful of punish though, because that would be #2 time grabbing the ledge), or chain with a neutral or falling up air. Either that or just run underneath to control the center of the stage again. Hope this helped some people. Thanks for making this video!

Thanks for the video. Since the game release, I've been switching characters from characters, trying to figure out my style. Thanks for the vid Izaw and keep up the good work your videos really help out others
Incredibly detailed video and amazing quality as always. How many more characters do you intend to cover? Do you already know which ones?
Ohhh my gosh yes! I clicked so fast. This means we're getting art of link really sooon😍😍😍. Also good job yet again izaw, this was good.
My guess: Art of Mario, 15 hours.
Art of Link, 35 hours. AM I close? See what I did there lol. Not my most impressive joke though lol.
I always love these art of videos. Even if I never even play the characters. It is just so well made and put together!
It's probably obvious for which character should come next, and it's one of the first characters ever introduced into Smash, and Mario's first villain: DK!
#1 combo I've learned playing Mario:
1. Get enemy to 100%+
2. Get to the end of the stage
3. Grab, D-throw
4. Short hop into F-air
Can we get luigi next please? They were who was next before ultimate happened, i think.
Thanks for the video.
Since the game release, I've been switching characters from characters, trying to figure out my style. Found my playstyle, now, I just need to see how the characters work and I found Mario's gameplay interesting since it involves a lot of combo gaming.
But what strikes me the most is that his tool are very useful and versatile, making the character even more tricky to play against.
Never do Art of Pichu. I played him in Melee because I love the character and it was satisfying to body people with him. Don't really need even MORE people picking up Pichu in Ultimate because he's toptier now lol
Selfish ass

Eww shut up
Something i learn is that when you respon if you jump and down b as soon as you finish charging you will be out of invincibility frames
Keep that im mind i know i have to😁
...Does this mean Luigi will happen?
...please?
Luigi wins the Art of Character series by doing absolutely nothing and being absolutely vacant. GG.
15:29 THE CAPE MADE ROBIN SPIKE HIMSELF LOLLL
Falcon next please 😁
Falcon mains where you at?
SHOW ME YA GAHD DAMN MOVES
@Trevor Zaybekian Good point. But what if Izaw has secretly optimized falcon with that huge brain of his and is about to show us falcon mains the true falcon god 🤔
13:53 that parry was crazy
Art of Olimar for ultimate. As an olimar main I’d love to see your commentary on the new and improved captain
I don't think that their are many who would want to see this🤔
@@Melvinb7 Im also an olimar main who wants this
@@Melvinb7 And this is why the smash community is shit, you'd rather just complain because you don't like the character rather than actually learning how he works.
luigi 64 a lot of people. You saw how popular his other olimar video was? And now he is debatably the best character in the game, so it only makes sense
@@V2Nitro I'm pretty sure he's just referring to the fact that Olimar doesn't have a very large playerbase which means more people would prefer to see a different character in addition to the fact that he doesn't encourage aggressive play in the way most people deem to be fun.
I love everything about Mario from fludd to cape everything
6:15
Woah! Shiek’s in the game? I didn’t know that!
I find neutral B a good special to B reverse, fun to combo with it.
Love the music choices. Excellent work as per usual dude. Sharing with everyone.
Izaw, you're the GOAT when it comes to Smash Ultimate character guides
7:56 I think that Mario was pissed at Inkling for escaping the combo so he punched her out of frustration
