  • Hi everyone! This week I got to see and drive a 1978 Dodge with "the other" diesel, offered only for a couple of years and very rare to see today! A little sketchy driveway dust-in sorted out a nasty dent in Agent 6667s sweet 1966 Chevy K20 4x4, and we get the short tour including a fresh 454! Dean is in fine form again this week as we put together a set of new wide whites for his 1978 Continental Mk V, and it is much improved! Lots of actual work going on with the Citroen DS, and this week the air conditioning gets installed and the headliner and roof go on!

    I like how Scotts idea of a sketchy used car lot fix is still better quality than 99% of the "how to do bodywork" videos on TH-cam!

      I was shocked to see a very known youtuber trying this kind of repair on 911 Porsche. He tried it near a rear wheel well, where the body was solid. He pulled many holes in the sheetmetal.Later on he did not weld anything. But instead he covered the disaster with a ton of bondo! Amazing enough he showed that "repair" on youtube and people were nearly all people put a LIKE for the video!?
      Well I am not repairing cars very well myself, but I mean I would hide in the valley of shame and would never ever post anything like that.

      Dear @@beatglauser9444
      Yeah, it's lots and lots of crap shown on TH-cam. Will you please be so kind and tell me what well known TH-camr it was? A lot of them forget that they are responsible for what they show, do, and say in public. Because they are kind of role models bad behaviour can be dangerous (at least expensive) for viewers that try to act alike.
      Thanks in advance.
      Best regards, luck and health.

      Scott always does incredible work. these other Canadian car chopping channels do incredibly sketchy bad work and they present it as a how-to video .. these people are not professionals and I would never accept that low level quality of work on anyting I paid for. It's one thing to say "this is how I to do it" but to say "this is how it should be done" is absolutely irresponsible and unacceptable!!

    Oh, that Dodge. That's the most beautiful thing I've in 10 years. Reminds me of my '75 with the 318 and 3 speed on the column. Or my Dad's '85 with the slant 6 and a standard trans (no power steering). How I loved those trucks.

    Scott. You 'knocked my socks off',,, again. Ole geezer gear head, jumping in here. To say that I'm impressed with the way you do body work, would be an 'understatement'! A million years ago, when I was in my twenties, and doing a lot of auto work(pulling/rebuilding big blocks, antique engines, king pin front ends, etc), two things that I hated to do, were,#1, mufflers/exhaust systems, and, you guessed it, #2, 'body work'. You sir, are an artist ! I salute you. And, thanks so much for all these great videos.

    Mitsubishi 6cyl 243 ci Non turbo.Built from late 77 into 79. Pretty gutless in a full size pickup but they were super good on fuel. These were made to compete with the GM/ Chev pickups with the 350 V8 Olds diesel, which ended up being a complete disaster for GM as they were notorious for grenading. Dodge even made 4wd Power Wagons with this motor. Great find of a super rare truck!

    I worked at a Dodge dealership and we sold one new and acquired one on a trade. They ran forever, but they didn't have much power. Chrysler also sold the Mitsubishi diesel and a TorqueFlite as a re-power package. We had a fleet of aluminum step vans that had been re-powered with this package.

One, a 150 hp 2.5 factory Turbo. 4th in sales of 1989 sport coupes. 1989 was the models PEAK sales year. Base price around $8500.

    As a Dodge guy I groan whenever the subject of the Mitsubishi Diesel comes up because #1) I lived through this era and remember when they were new and I groan #2) because people seem to know so much that isn't true or right. HP/TQ wise they were on par w/the slant 6 (about 105HP) Garrett made an aftermarket turbo for these also.

    My father bought this Mitsubishi engine from Mack Boring in New Jersey and stuffed it into 1 ton Chevy 4X4 pickup with a New Process 4 speed behind it - I believe it was a package deal from Mack Boring. Displacement was only about 240 cubic inches and it produced 105 hp at about 3500 rpm. Not very powerful but built very, very tough

      That sounds sweet! I love the ol straight 6 and 3 on the tree, but it would never pull my jeep out to the trails, and thats the plan for this beast!

    My late uncle was a diesel nut, and he tried to order one of these Dodge diesels from the dealer in 1977 when they were brand new. They must have been rare and hard to get new as well, because the dealer played him along for a couple months and then told him that they couldn't get one. So he went and bought one of the first Old's diesel powered '77 or '78 Chevy trucks instead.

    I know about it but have never seen the 78 diesel. Easy to see why it didn't work, noisy and slow. I have a 78 D-150 with the same cab and bed only with a drivetrain from a 95. 360, 4 speed auto, 9.25 rear. I love my truck.

    My 68 K20 had a Rockwell t-case. My 72 K20 Suburban has a NP205. No K20’s had a 10 bolt rear end. But it’s awesome. So my schitzo-ness will have to just deal with it.

    • @mylesmoparfreak6562
      @mylesmoparfreak6562 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, its been pieced together by previous owners. You are correct in regards to the transfer case. At the time, my brain was fuzzy and couldnt member, lol. Previous axles were stolen, and a later model suburban was parted out. The transfer case is original, i believe- it is the Rockwell. Thanks!

    I remember when Dodge offered those diesel engines back then, think they were something like 241 or 243 cubic inches, Dad bought a new '78 D150 but it had the old workhorse 225 Slant Six and 3 on the tree

    37:15 Years ago as kids, we would toboggan down grass hills in old auto hoods. One hell of a rough ride. What those classic old panels would be worth today!

  • @beatglauser9444
    @beatglauser9444 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Now I have another reason to love old solid tin! When we were making those kind of repairs on modern cars, you were in danger of burnig a hole every time you put a "nail" as we called it. One slight pull and a you ended up with a hole in the paper thin metal. And it was not only the thinness of the material: I was told the steel of today specially in newer asian cars is mixed with a lot of other metals.
    Nowadays you have this system that glues the stuff on the surface. The big advatage is that you do not have to grind down to the bare metal. This wolul not work on a solid classic: but It is very good for the ridiculously thin metal of today

    About 15 years ago a friend of mine in Finland bought a 78 Dodge diesel pick-up to make a 440 powered one but in the end he just didn't have the heart to go through with that plan due to the rarity and originality of the truck. It was a TF727 equipped truck though.

    Sweet old truck and i cant say I ever heard of one. So the cummins wasn't their first kick at the diesel cat so to speak. Also thank you Scott for the more detailed explanation on the dent removal. You're awesome because you listen to the ppl who follow and support your channel. CWM is still by far my favourite channel hands down and I'd love to do more to support you but you know my situation. Keep up the great work and laughs guys!
