Looked like fun - thanks for taking us along! Love the content combo - good life with friends with a touch of the technical us boat nerds love. Great checklists!
Oh my God. What nostalgia! In 1953 when I was 12 we sailed our yawl “Rose of Tralee” from Riverside YC up the coast to Mystic over night and then on to Block Island. I loved that place and remember going to the little movie theater there to see “The Creature From the Black Lagoon”. What fun.
Welcome back boys, I enjoyed having my morning coffee with you three… ( including Jasperof course). You need to take a trip someday to Mackinac Island in Michigan, if you like Block Island, you’ll love Mackinac Island! Cheers!
Oh hell....wish I knew you guys were up this way, I woulda loved to hit the dock bar at Block with you guys. Great spot to hit for a day/weekend, so much fun, so quaint. Love your videos, thanks.
“Say hi Jasper!” “he could careless”. Bahahahaha You guys inspire me to follow my passion! I want a Bayliner or Hatteras so bad as my first large boat and to use it as a home and travel around! Keep pumping out the videos, it’s addicting haha.
Glad you're finally back! Block Island is my favorite! Kept our boat in CT and went to The Block every summer! Always at Paynes Dock, lots of memories!
Nice to see you again. we live in upstate New York around Albany but lived a couple years in Mystic and Stonington Connecticut. Block Island is one of my favorite places too. Spent many many many nights there. Often on a Friday night we would takeoff for the block just to spend the weekend in old Harbour closer to town. I suspect I’ve seen your boat in Catskill as we’re traveling down the Hudson. Look forward to your next video
Thanks so much Leslie! We kept our last boat in Port Washington for a few years and having that as a jumping off point was pretty incredible. We have always imagined what it would be like to base out of eastern CT with the countless nearby destinations it offers. Hope to see you out there!
Glad you guys are having fun on the water. I second the remark from the previous comment on professionalism. Great job in presentation, narration, and video. Tender issue! It's part of the boat experience. Just have another bloody mary and you will be fine. lol
Yes - a bloody mary can cure many things! Thank you for the compliments. We do have a good time but we take the responsibility all very seriously. Cheers!
Hi! Great to see you back on Oloh. Nice trip to the island! You probably know this - to clean the yellow from the hull WL - A stick of Rhubarb or Lemon Cut in half - both totally "green" and very inexpensive!! Just rub the juice on, and leave it to do the work, while you go drink another Mudslide!! Enjoy your boat - we, the viewers do too!! Best wishes John!
Thanks and so glad you enjoyed the video! We know that lemon juice will work (but strip wax), but rhubarb? Ha! Never heard that... and it happens that the Admiral baked a strawberry rhubarb pie on this trip 😀
Thanks, for the ebike recommendation. We've been looking all summer but didn't find anything we liked. Though a bit pricey, I like what I saw and found on the web.
Our pleasure - though at this point we've only used them a few times, but we do have high hopes. We had been looking for a while for something full-sized that had a good balance of features, weight and price and this is where we landed. When they had a 50% off sale on Black Friday last year we decided to take the leap. We hope to be doing a more thorough review at some point.
Good to see you guys back…….I started to look in the obituaries for you guys…lol….What are your winter plans…The admiral can cook!!!! Was that Quintessence next to you…The Horizon cat
Thanks and nice to hear from you (the rumors of our demise are greatly exaggerated 😄). Heading to the Keys for the winter and looking forward to it. That wan't Quintessence but we were aboard the original Quintessence years ago in Coinjock. That PC60 lives in that slip for the summer and winters in the Berry Islands. Hope to see you out there one of these days.
Second time I watched this video. Spent quite a few weeks on the block. Always had to leave unfortunately. Would love to winter over there with the small winter population. And if you ever get a chance stay over in Stonington Harbor on your way up to the block . Nice little walkable town with fine large and small restaurants. Better😢 go before I get teary-eyed
I live in East Lyme - my boat is now in Old Saybrook- mouth of Connecticut River on the Sound. Glad to see you guys back!! And with a substantial video! Are you doing less boating and less videos? Are you planning on going back to Florida this year?
Thanks for the welcome back. We love the area where you keep your boat and have spent a lot of time cruising around there, mostly in prior boats. This was our first significant trip worth shooting in a bit but yes, we are heading south this fall so more content will be coming.
Always enjoy seeing a new video on your channel. I have two quick boat questions if you have a moment to respond. You mentioned that OLOH travels between Florida and New York regularly. What is the maximum draft boat you would recommend for cruising in the intercoastal waterway, and secondly, what maximum length boat will get you into most marinas. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Thanks so much! With our 5' draft we are close to the limit of what we would be comfortable with for ICW travel, though 6' draft boats do it all the time. The deeper the draft, the more legs you'll prefer to do on the outside. We mix it up but spend far more time inside than out. Our deeper draft friends jump into the ocean for the more notoriously problematic stretches. As far as LOA, our friends on a 70 footer typically don't have issues finding dockage. We also have friends with an 80 who do the trip every year and, while a bit more limiting, there are enough marinas along the way that can accommodate them and much bigger boats. Face docks are pretty common along the coast but you just have to be a bit more diligent than smaller boats about planning and reservations. Hope that helps at least some! You can always reach out at ahoy@myoloh.com - always happy to try and help.
Good morning, my wife and I are new to cruising (just purchased a Grand Alaskan 64’ from some wonderful folks that you know) and wondering which marinas you recommend between Sarasota and Marathon? We’re planning a trip to the Keys after hurricane season. Thank you and love your videos!
Hello and congrats on a spectacular yacht! Please shoot us an email at ahoy@myoloh.com and we'll get some suggestions off to you. Hope to see you out there!
Well a little perplexed i am, it has been a few weeks (full moons)Just love the professionalism that you as a captain show the true meaning of the responsibility for your ship as for the admiral MMM i am a retired Chef RED seal if he has written a book on his colannary arts and resapeise ( sorry spell not working ) were can i get it.he also is amazing Love
The bell ringing at cocktail hour came about very organically when we were staying at the Mystic Seaport Museum many years ago and friends bought us a captain's bell from their gift shop. Every time a round was poured someone rang the bell to let everyone know. That morphed into the tradition we have today and it always accompanies a toast on at least the first round. Over the years we've passed the new tradition on to our boating friends (and apparently many of our viewers). The only problem is that we now have a Pavlovian reaction every time we hear a bell ring 😄🔔 Cheers!!
So glad you enjoyed the video. We use a product called Slimy Grimy. It's allegedly non-caustic and does not strip wax. Don't know the reality of that but it works well and is easy to apply/hose off.
Thanks for the kind words. Much of what we shoot is on an iPhone 14. The fixed shots from the foredeck are from a GoPro. We'll be motoring south a bit later this fall.
Great videos, As a Canadian licensed Captain, if you require a deck hand to move OLOH from one port to another, please reach out as I would be more than happy to help you out…. Cheers. Wally.
Good stuff, i live in Old Saybrook been going to B.I for many many years, just a special place, a little disappointed though that Taylor Swift got a mention and not Captain Kidd ??? Or maybe you are not familiar with Captain Kidd and B.I should look it up when you have the time..... keep up the good work nice yacht.....
We had been looking for a while for the right balance of features, folded size and weight in a full frame e-bike and the Summit seemed to fit the bill. We had been familiar with the brand from years prior when we were looking for something more compact and always kept an eye on their new offerings. There are definitely compromises - specifically for us with how small you can get it - but, on balance, it is working for us so far. The real test will be in our travels this winter and we'll hopefully release more of a review at some point.
I understand why Block Island is such a favorite to so many boaters. Great video guys.
Glad you got a good feel for it - thanks for joining in on the fun.
Missed you guys. Now I can get back to living vicariously.
Hey, I feel like I was there 😉. You produce some of the best videos anywhere about boating. Thank you for sharing...
So glad we were able to transport you... oh, wait. You guys were the real stars!
@@OLOH We had a blast! Can't wait till next time... ❤️

That's awesome! Much of it has probably changed little in those 60 years. Fun indeed!
Yes, the movie theatre, by the time I got to it it was 1978 and the walls were so bad the light came through! But it was the best!
Glad to see you guys back on the water.
What a great video tour of boating to Block Island! You guys are awesome!
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
From the Captain and crew of the Joyful Noise it was very nice meeting you guys.
So glad you found the video! Thanks for being stars (and fun neighbors)! Hope to see you out there again.
Yesssss! You're back!

Hey guys Nice to see you back Heard about Block Island but never been or seen video about it … Very enjoyable…Hopefully more to come soon.
Thanks so much - we're glad you were along to experience it!

Cool to have friends to take departure videos, so often we only see ourselves from onboard POV.
And in the case of this video, from two angles! Cheers😎

SO glad to hear! Until you have yours, we're happy to have you joining us virtually on OLOH. And Jasper definitely cares about that!
So glad y’all are back, I was going through DT’s lol. Another cool place to put on our list once we get the boat, thanks for sharing. Cool bikes
We certainly don't want to be responsible for DTs! Thanks for staying with us.
Mudslides are always delicious 😂 welcome back!👏🏾
It was good to find one we like! They are dangerous, however. Thanks for the welcome back!

Can you still taste those doughnuts? Thanks for being along for the ride!

Hey was wondering what you guys have for your docking equipment, can you make a video on that
Hi and thanks for the suggestion. Specifically which docking equipment? Our remote control, or?
I like the GPS on your Boston Whaler. What brand/model is it? Thanks
It's a Garmin ECHOMA Plus 74cv (www.garmin.com/en-US/p/592900). Great balance of size and features.
