The best Yacht travel channel on TH-cam. Always explaining what you're doing and why you're doing it. Great views outside the Yacht with the history of the area you're traveling and views inside while operating the boat. Very relaxing to watch. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and for your note. As a lifelong New Yorker, I colloquially still refer to the GMC Bridge as the Tappan Zee. But for the sake of our content we use its proper name since the TZB was torn down and does not appear on modern charts and maps that way. Same with the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge which is how it commonly appears. It will always be the 59th St bridge to me but since we're finding that a lot of people from out of the area use our videos as cruising guides, we aim to avoid any possible confusion by using proper names.
An awesome cruise. We enjoyed this experience, as always. The breakfast looks so good. Thank you for sharing, have a great week. Hello from your friends in Naples, Florida. (Like 929) 👍💯
4:04 Haha you don’t have a cool name like “Peaches and Cream” 8:20 At least it sounds like a real horn our little 340 Sundanese had a lil electronic horn 27:17 Not bad on the fuel, its nice to have a little push Another great video and I love when Jasper says Hey when you arrive at a dock Enjoy the Ride Bell
You mean the horn that sounds like a duck? Yeah, we had that on our Sea Ray. Loved the boat but that horn was embarrassing 😄 Thanks for all the kind words - so glad you're enjoying!
I thought there were eight bridges on the river. It was great to see Rob Panowich he is the salt of the earth. I sold my trawler last year. I will miss his warm welcome. I was looking forward to hearing him speak. I would have thought you would have asked Rob a question or two. Thanks for your video
Ha! Great catch on the eight bridges. We saw Rob again recently and he's always a warm and friendly presence in Port Washington. Perhaps you tuned out early as we do speak with Rob briefly at 27:41. Thanks for watching!
And I too just had my morning coffee cruising along.... many happy memories of fun times aboard OLOH and this is the next best thing to being there! Loved Jasper's greeting on arrival at Capri xoxo
Fantastic Video of The Big Apple - Brought back many happy memories. Thanks for showing us. I look forward to the next epic!! Greetings from Cornwall England!!
Yes - there were quite a few eddies hiding in the otherwise calm that certainly would have tried to have their way with your kayak. Joseph - we are humbled by your journey and accomplishment and for all of the good it did. Simply incredible beyond words. If you are comfortable being thanked for your service then we offer our sincere appreciation.
@@OLOH I crossed from Guilford, CT to Greensport, L I. I had timed the tide perfectly for my crossing except I didn't account for the fog. So I got a late start and paddled fast. I made it to within a mile and a half from shore when the tide changed. I paddled for an hour and a half while being in the same spot. The tide eased enough for me to make it to shore. Needless to say I was exhausted but if i stopped paddling I would have ben in worse conditions.
This was like coming home for me. I grew up in Manhasset until the age of 12, when we moved to Miami. We kept our boat at the Capri. This would have been '57 - '58, and Capri was the new kid on the block. The much older more established Riviera Yacht Club was just down the street. Being 12 and a baseball fan, I was thrilled that the noted Brooklyn Dodger catcher Roy Campanella kept his boat just two slips away from ours. I'm now 77 and still living in Florida, but I sure miss boating on Manhasset Bay. Thanks for the video and the memories.
Larry - we love putting these videos together but it's comments like yours that simply make our day. We're so glad you could be along for the ride and that it brought back such warm memories. We've felt drawn to Manhasset Bay since the first time we pulled in and it will also always be a special place for us. Thanks for taking the time to write and share that great story.
Mario was a good governor, but I still prefer the Tappan Zee moniker. Nice to see Throgs Neck, too. I bought a 20' Sea Ray from a marina there in '90 and brought it home to Stamford on the water. (Ignorance WAS bliss back then as I had no charts; just headed East and turned in when I recognized our (Westcott) Cove)! As always, thanks for taking us along on your journey. 🌊
Ha! We well understand the idea of ignorance being bliss in early boating - that was us. Although it was only bliss until it cost us an outdrive on our 21' Sea Ray. Glad we made it through and now know what we know. So glad you were along for the ride!
A couple of things come to mind after your great video and expert Captain skills. I'm just trying to add some comments. The ferry's and other commercial traffic use channel 13 so it's best to have 2 VHF radio's. one on 16 and the other 0n 13. Hell Gate is also known for lots of debris after rain storms and flash floods which adds to everything you mentioned. The debris gets more hazardous as your speed increases for those who have 30 plus knot vessels :) Thanks again Captain for a great ride ! Top notch !
Every time I watch your video's I get a smile on my face. It's the way you guys interact that makes me smile. As a solo YT boater it's a challenge to get that interaction in my vid's but I do my best. Really love the way how you let the ads flow into your editing. It feels as if I am in the US, watching a show on TV. So go ahead with boating, whilst I have dinner. Cheers form The Netherlands..
Your videos are better than anything I watch. We’ve been through the waters south of the Hudson 7 times now and yet, I learn things watching your trip.
Thanks so much Havana. Can't recall if Andiamo was at Capri when we were there (sounds familiar but there were several 50DBs there when it was our home port and, as you know, many Andiamos). We enjoyed your participation in CSR for the many years we were on there over a dozen years ago. Cheers!

Thank you! Jasper is not yet potty trained to go on board, though we keep threatening to get him there. Our typical days underway are fewer than eight hours (usually less) which is not a problem for him at all.
I live in TN and have neighbors who moved here from Long Island. Having been a long-distance trailerable cruiser in the past, I think this video is very interesting for cruisers, like myself, to get an idea of what this trip would be like. Thanks for the video! Smooth cruising!
We make noise, our ambitions are admirable on this journey of life, but the best moments along the way our small, solitary and quiet in my belief. For an instance we see all our efforts for what they are, necessities of our own choice, but we are what we are and it is what it is. We are small in this world but we think big and when we trim to the breeze that there is and not the breeze, there ought to be, the wind will always bring us home.
Wow, talk about a fuel efficient run. We typically have plus/minus days here on the AICW along the east coast of Florida - you get the current from different directions depending on the tide state and if you're approaching an inlet, or down track from one. Glad you mentioned the currents affect on steerage - something to be remembered when voyage planning. Throgs Neck Bridge was always a bottleneck as we tried to leave the island, heading upstate for camping trips, on Friday afternoons. Like you, I sat in the back of the station wagon and was jealous of the boaters passing leisurely far below. Even after 40+ years Manhasset Bay and Port Washington look the same. Great boating spot.
Ha - as we said, hard to complain about 1 nmpg in a 60' boat. But a 4-5 knot current will help with that. Although at an average of 10 knots it's pretty close to where we land on typical long days. Cheers!
Excellent video! What a great tour of New York City on this trip. By watching so many people documenting their adventures on TH-cam I have been inspired to learn how to edit video so I can share my adventures aboard my boat Jetlag. Jetlag is a 340 Sundancer that I dock in Huron Ohio on Lake Erie. Looking forward to your next trip. Safe travels.
So glad you enjoyed it! When we were coming up in our smaller Sea Rays, that 340DA was the dream. Such a well-rounded cruiser. Please be sure to let us know when you begin posting. Admiral Tim grew up just a bit south of the lake with lots of hours logged at Put-in-Bay, Kelly's etc. Cheers!
@@OLOH Wow I didn't realize Tim had an Ohio connection! I love going to the islands as well. I recently posted some videos, although I am just learning how to edit, on my TH-cam channel called Cruising Aboard Jetlag. Fantastic guys. Always great videos and enjoy the escape from land life. My boyfriend and I are bareboat chartering in Newport Rhode Island heading out to Block Island and Cuttyhook and various other point for a week.
Thanks so much! That will be an amazing week. Just terrific cruising grounds. Though you'll have a hard time pulling yourselves away from Block. Hope to see you out there.
Do you go around Manhattan instead of going through the Harlem River just for the scenery? I ran the Harlem river in a small (16') boat eons ago on early spring trip from around Croton on Hudson to Oyster Bay. Fun ride but it was cold and blowing like stink in the Sound. but I can't remember if it has low fixed bridges. Enjoyed the video!
As we've mentioned to several others, that has been the top question we've received on this video. Sorry we didn't address it. OLOH is just a little too tall for the Harlem River's air draft restriction. That was our preferred route in our previous, shorter boats. So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for another great video and trip down memory lane of my childhood trips along this route! Hell gate was always interesting with the whirlpools, eddies and stretch’s of smooth (deeper) water. Originally named by my Dutch relatives in the Mid-1600's the Spuyten Duyvil, My Irish Great Grandfather in the 1930s swam it to save a drowning pig his name was Thomas Kelly yes he made it.
There is a height restriction on the Harlem River that precludes us from going that way on OLOH. Prior to OLOH, that is how we would typically travel between the Sound and that portion of the Hudson.
Back in late 70s, I took the circle-line tour and it went through the Harlem River, and it was a lot higher than OLOH! Did they put in a new bridge into Harlan?
Not that we know of. You would think that the Circle Line boats are taller than OLOH given their overall size, but they are not, at least regarding minimum air draft. Fixed bridges on the Harlem River restrict air draft to 22.5 feet which was even a problem for some of the older Circle Line boats at extreme tides. OLOH can clear 23' with her antennae down but that is too close for comfort to make it worthwhile for us.
It’s called the Tappan Zee Bridge… We’ll never call it the Cuomo Bridge… hahahaaaa… Love your videos

Out of curiosity ... Why didn't you save about 25 or 30 miles and go down the Harlem River?
OLOH is just a little too tall for the Harlem River's air draft restriction. That was our preferred route in our previous, shorter boats.
Do boats of this size have autopilots slaved to GPS?
Most would, yes. OLOH's AP is fully integrated with our navigation suite and we often have it following a pre-plotted route when appropriate.
Nice

The end of October. AJ mentions at the end of the video his birthday is on Halloween.
Yep - this was filmed on October 30th.

Originally named by my Dutch relatives in the Mid-1600's the Spuyten Duyvil, My Irish Great Grandfather in the 1930s swam it to save a drowning pig his name was Thomas Kelly yes he made it.
Thomas was one lucky pig! That's awesome - thanks for the background.
Why didn’t you go thru the Harlem river the short way
OLOH is just a little too tall for the Harlem River's air draft restriction. That was our preferred route in our previous, shorter boats.
Why did you go down the Harlem River?
We did not. We went down the Hudson River.
That was supposed to be. Why didn’t you go down the Harlem River?
Nope!!! It's the Tappan Zee Bridge!
Well, in the hearts and minds of many, anyway.
Boomershines! Ha. I got it! Ha
Fantastic. And they've let us know they picked it up too. Cheers!
