  • The OLOH Crew is joined by great friends for a last hurrah of the northeast boating season featuring a cruise down the Hudson River from Catskill, New York. Come aboard and see how we get underway and operate on our sixty foot motor yacht while checking out the spectacular sights along our journey including a beautiful yacht with major celebrity pedigree and one of our favorite marinas on the river.
    We aim to give you a feel for life aboard for us and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply our story. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Hi! Found your channel. One note. It’s not the West Point Military Academy. It is the United States Military Academy at West Point. You are correct that it is the oldest since it was established in 1802 since prior to that it was the location on the river where chain links were floated across the river to prevent the British from sailing up to Albany. (I happen to be a graduate of USMA and am proud of the institution. )

    Hi AJ & Tim, what a channel!!!! you got me through Christmas, as I have been quarantined with a bad virus and missed all the holiday festivities. I binged watched your whole channel. I have been boating most of my life. My wife and I first bought a 2006 22 Sea Ray Sundeck in 2017. In 2020 we upgraded to a 2008 33 Sea Ray Sundancer. We have since taken her all over New England (Block Island is our favorite spot, and of course, we spend the most time on Fire Island) but never up the Hudson! We live in Long Island and have family in Catskill, Kingston, and Saugerties. Thinking it might be a 2023 trip for sure! Out of June-August, is there a month you recommend taking the trip up? Your Jefferson is the exact boat we want to upgrade to someday and take on the Great Loop!!! Have your guys thought about making the loop? Before stepping up to your 60, what size and kind of boat did you have? From one video I saw, it looked to be a Sea Ray 44-48!!! Thanks again for the great content. Waiting for your next video to drop. Cheers!!!

      Hey Victor - thanks so much for reaching out and for the kind words! Our first two boats were Sea Rays... a 21' Sundeck and the 26' Sundancer you saw in that video, then a 37' Four WInns express cruiser and 47' Meridian bridge boat.. We spent years on the LIS with the Meridian and Northport was always one of our favorite spots - we hope to get back there next year. We know lots of loopers and we may take it on someday but there isn't a current plan for that. If you'd like, shoot us an email at ahoy@myoloh.com so we can better swap stories and share lots of Hudson River info. Cheers!

    The Hudson is truly a Beautifull river for boating tours.
    14:43 Dutch here, Saugerties doesn’t mean anything in Dutch or in “ye olde” Dutch. The translation of “sawmill” is “Houtzagerij” in Dutch, and the direct translation is “zaagmolen”.
    According to their own historical data,
    The earliest Dutch navigators where there wel before it’s time around 1616, but i did not see any Dutch affiliation with Saugerties lighthouse.
    “Saugerties was a major port with daily commercial and passenger transportation around 1834.”

    • @stargazer1459
      @stargazer1459 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "The name Saugerties is derived from the Dutch “Zager’s Killetje,” meaning a sawmill on a creek, and in fact, there was a mill built on Esopus Creek to harness the creek’s waterpower. The mill formed the cornerstone of a thriving paper industry, which produced as much as eight tons of paper daily, making it one of the leading producers of paper in the 1800s."

      @@OLOH ..oh yes, the woodwork has not a blemish on it and has that perfect color that we are looking for. We have looked at Grand Banks but I made the mistake of seeing your videos and now I see Grand Banks so differently.... Is there a video in which you discuss the cost of acquiring your yacht (I will not be so bold as to ask online) as it is a beauty.

    • @OLOH
      @OLOH  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you again Coleen (and to be sure, Jasper may or may not have marked up a bit of our beautiful wood floor😁). You cannot go wrong with a Grand Banks, particularly a later model. But as you know there's obviously a lot of difference between the trawler and motor yacht styles. While Jeffersons were built in Taiwan and Grand Banks in Malaysia (at least since '95), they share a lot of the same approach to craftsmanship. And certainly that GB woodwork and joinery is some of the best in class.
      We avoid talking about pricing on our website and in our videos since all of that info becomes outdated. A decent reference for pricing might be to check out the 2005 sistership to OLOH that is currently for sale (see it on Yachtworld). There were only around nine of our late model style built so they don't come around too often. While we and its owners have done some different things in our refits, it's a nice example of this model. If you ever have any specific questions about the costs of some of the work we have done or anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at ahoy@myoloh.com and we'll do our best to help out. Cheers!
