      Best when released into CRISCO LAKE as we always say.Now the BIG fish over 5 lbs are all released where they are caught! {:>)

    I don't know why everyone is so against eating bass. I mean my family loves fish. But anything over the size of 18 inches we won't keep so there's a 4 inch range in which we'll keep. And anything over 27 is wall mount.

    keeping small fryer sized bass is no issue, but if you catch a lunker, its best to practice CPR(catch photo release) this allows that fish to pass on its genetics to atleast one more fry hatch, hopefully several.

    People get so butt hurt when you don't catch and release bass... If it's legal for that person to keep the fish and eat it you might as well just get over it.

      Growing up I’d never heard of “catch and release”. The whole purpose of fishing and hunting was to eat what we got. I’d understand if the populations were dwindling. But I’ve fished ponds that are catch and release only and all the bass are stunted.

    :D lmao. Yeah crappie is absolutely amazing. But yeah last Sunday I cooked up a large mouth and I guess I was surprised because a lot of people say they don't taste very well. I just used a non-stick skillet with olive oil and on low heat. Just used salt & pepper, cooked it up and topped it off with a little bit of melted butter. But when it comes to crappie, white bass, yellow bass, striped bass or catfish, we just usually fry em' up.

  • @8180634

    I like this method, you get more meat off of the bones than other methods I've seen. What do you use to keep your filet knife sharp? Just practice with a good stone, or do you have a knife sharpener of some sort?

    I guess only hardcore bass fisherman don't like eating bass from the comments. All other people enjoy it with their fish intake. Not always first on the list, but eating it with your other meal of fish don't hurt. They're such in abundance. Why do people always rage so hard in the comments... Murica.

    Nice video bud, I will keep a few bass this year for sure...especially once my daughter gets her first good sized bass. But we will release all the rest. They have pretty high toxin levels around here to be eating all the time but every now and again is not bad...I do agree to keep the smaller ones over the "lunkers". I mean hell I wanna be able to keep catching the big exiting fish more than once.

    12 inches for ca, and use the catch and release sparingly. i catch and release over 75% of my fish caught and about once a month i decide i would like a fresh trout or bass for dinner. i will take home 1 or 2. take the smaller ones leave the larger to spawn and produce more. a ca fishing license is over 42.00 now and you can bet i would like a meal every now and then for that price
    like if you agree

    This should be titled, how to get 1 lb. of meat from a 2 lb. bass. I've seen fish cleaning stations where folks only take 1/4 lb. of back meat from a 2 lb. bass, so perhaps you're video will help. Personally, I get much more more enjoyment from the challenge of finding bass, the thrill of catching it, being thankful for the memory, and seeing it swim away so that someone else can experience the same. Either way, it would suck being a bass:)

    No point in cutting through the bones, it will just make your knife dull, there isn't much meat on the ribs anyways, and you shouldn't eat belly fat or meat from any fish (thats where most chemicals are stored). Once I hit the rib cage I pierce through the skin and cut around and down till the last rib, cut back into the meat and continue filleting the tail.

    • @charlesljones2454
      @charlesljones2454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bass are one of the easiest fish to filet. Just slide your knife against the rib cage. There's no need to cut through it.

    When I was in my teens and in my twenties, I was more liberal in catch and release. Now when I am oldER, I am more conservative about keeping every legal size and bag limit I can. The only thing left is just guts, bones, fins, and scales. I cook the whole thing and suck out the eye balls and all.

    You have to remove some bass from certain populations to keep the population healthy. Also LMB is an invasive species in some states, so killing them is necessary sometimes. A good, healthy fishery can take the culling of certain size bass.

    I normally don't keep big lmb for a simple reason. The lakes I fish need those genetics for big mouth bass to continue for future generations. Now back home there are ponds etc that I will keep them out of but where I currently live I mostly fish big tourneyment lakes. I'll keep a few smallies, bluegill, catfish, but LMB is a sports fish and Should be treated that way at tourneyment lakes. If you are fishing non tourneyment lakes them keep them all you want, they taste great.
