    Thank you for promoting eating largemouth! I eat them as well, nice big flakes like a cod. I have a no minimum lake near me and you're right those 10"-15" bass are delicious. Many lakes have become overpopulated in northern WI.

      You are welcome! I agree. They need to be harvested in many lakes up here.

      Yessir. Fish are food! I certainly don’t keep every fish I catch, but I keep enough to make sure the family is well fed!

    I like the way you trim around the rib bones with the powered fillet knife, instead of just lopping off the meat with the ribs.😊😊😊😊

    Thank you for this video Caleb - I agree that a small/moderate size LM in cold water tastes just like a big bluegill. Other species are seriously over harvested, and bass are underutilized.

    I’ve been fishing since I was 5-6 years old late 80’s I just recently tried bass about 4-5 years ago. That’s a delicious damn fish to eat. I make it several ways tho. Sometimes I’ll fillet it other times I’ll either steak it out or fillet an leave the skin on or I’ll butterfly it whole. Once it’s fried up nicely that skin gives it a super nice crunch. I don’t typically keep bass unless they go belly up when I try to release them. Mostly keep bluegill, shell-cracker, crappie, bullhead catfish or channel catfish. But if there is an unlucky bass that happens to bite my line and I can’t revive him into the fryer he goes.

    Thank you for showing how easy it is to get that belly meat. Most people act like it's not worth the trouble. I mean, you killed it, so eat all you can. Great tutorial.

    Chose to keep a largemouth I ended up killing on accident today upwards of 15” and this makes me feel confident in cleaning my first fish. Will probably update if I butcher this pretty simple process.
    Update, kind of botched the cleaning but still have some decent filets.

    I wish Douglas county would remove the size limit for bass on more lakes. We have so many small lakes that seem to be stunted with tons of 12"-13" bass that never seem to get any bigger but I cant keep them until they are over 14".

    I eat smallmouth and largemouth bass, theyre a very underrated eating fish. Where i live we have no restrictions on walleye or perch, so theyre hard to come by anymore, but bass are everywhere and people just toss them all back. So i eat them to even out the score a little in our local waters

    Another way and then it to me once you do it a few times it's a lot quicker is when you start your cutting down the spine and go through and cut to the tail do not cut through the tailpiece stop right there at the end and then continue for laying and then when you get the rest of it for ages flip it over and the actual you won't have to put your finger there to hold the skin it's still attached fillet the meat off and you're done and once you do that a couple of times it'll go a whole lot faster and then it's a one-piece pick up clean up

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a good method. I’ve used it as well. They both work but I just still prefer to remove the fillet from the carcass before skinning. Call it personal preference I guess. The one time I don’t is when using an electric fillet knife.

      Thanks! I’ve don’t it a time or twenty thousand. Lol. Just takes practice! I keep the blade just angled down very slightly which helps to keep it from sliding up into the meat.
