For how much it costs its a big miss for me, especially since I already have a modded 3DS, but I'm glad it exists.
Yup. As clunky as a modded 3ds can be, $700+ is just too much for a device that most people would be getting primarily for DS/3ds emulation.

@@Nickbaldeagle02 of course not, but there are plenty of gaming handhelds that are also not just for 3ds games. The question is if this is worth the $700 for better 3ds emulation vs other the other offerings. As a windows handheld it almost doesn't make sense to get it instead of the keyboard model, unless aya are able to do some really good work software side (which will be limited regardless since it's in windows).
to quickly move window to bottom screen, you can bind some additional button to the win+shift+arrow key (down in this case) macro
Man I really wanna start making retro / portable videos so I can be in on conversations like this, what a great chat. Nice to see the portable / handheld / retro gaming niche is growing and getting it's own little corner of TH-cam.
I really do want to go back to the days of fitting a handheld in my pocket, and if the GPD Win Mini and Aya Neo Flip herald the pocketable handheld, then so be it.
GPD Win Mini is just about pocket sized (168×109×26mm) but AyaNeo Flip DS is an inch and half thick and 650g, it's a brick (180x102x38mm)
My favorite pve games, helldivers 2, deeprock galactic. Darktide, black ops 3 zombies. Destiny. Always fun with friends.
One of my fav aspects of this podcast is how everyone is respectful and makes best attempts not to interrupt one another. Many professionals don't seem to remember this fundamental rule and to my ears it results in an incomprehensible and frustrating experience. Plus rude.

The clamshell is the ultimate handheld design because the screen is adjusted comfortably within your viewing angle and causing less strain on the neck. But the price of this + import tax makes it like 30% more expensive than an ally while delivering roughly the same perfomance.
Backwards compatibility is the sole reason I buy all of my games on steam now

Last I recall, Cryobyte had to do a lot of moving since he had to move overseas so I think that's impacted his free time to join the podcast and even make his own videos.

42:00 that is more common than you think, a lot of pc gamers dont play platformers because they never had a good experience with that, and they never had an good experience because they are using an keyboard instead of an dpad...
maybe platform was not the best example, but you get the point, gamers think they know better than they really do and completely under estimate the importance of using the right input for their games
Amen to that. I bought a gamepad because I wanted to do some emulation on my desktop, and all of a sudden I found myself really enjoying new sidescrollers and platformers on steam since now I had the best input for it. It really opened me up to whole new genres of games.
PSA: around 26:54 wireless dual sense, yes you can use ps5 haptics wirelessly, you have to disable steam input or else it will not work as its emulating an xbox controller a little late on the response but hopefully it will help someone

Oh, that's been around for a while.
For the dual screen DS emulation, you could theoretically use MelonDS and stretch the window until it is across both screens. Only issue i forsee with doing it that way is the screen sizes being so different that idk if it could be scaled properly.
Once you get used to gyro aiming...it's next level. Especially for bow and arrow in Zelda, Splatoon, Monster Hunter Rise and other games like that.
Original Fatboy PS3 actually had native backwards compatible with PS One and PS2 discs/games. Shame modern times we don’t see that support for a company’s past systems/titles. Nice to not have to rely on always being online or a subscriber to said company’s marketplace and having these discs just load up offline.
Do you all have a current top pick for a handheld pc? I have the original steam deck, I didn’t know if there has been anything better. Also just found your podcasts. Loving it so far.

My original 3ds, which I cared for a lot, ended up having to parallel lines of wear due to the frame of the smaller screen, and that was very easy to spot when playing g

Re: backwards compatibility, I’m very glad the PS5 can run PS4 games for sure but I do wish it went further back. On Xbox I had heard so many things about it’s thr perfect backwards compatible thing and the first three games I tried on my series X were Halo 1, 2, and Arkham Asylum and none of them worked so I still have my 360 out and use it much more than my Series X.
I’m tempted to get the DS but what turned me off is the second screen size… I want to get it for the productivity because I can use two screens at once but I feel like KB would be more then enough to suit my needs.
I legit clicked on this video for th handheld, then Mr. Meeseeks style, I got roped into it. Went right down th gaming rabbit hole we did! I loved it! Lol. Wish I had more adult gamers where I live here in PA... Cuz lemme tell ya, there was a Dusty Slay moment where I'm like yeah, "we're having a good time..." haha 👊😃
I loved that deep rock galactic had gyro, helldivers is a similar style game & hearing its also gyro definitely makes me more interested. The only good bug is a dead bug.
Someone please test the DS version pair with media glasses.
I may be an exception but a big reason I stopped buying PlayStations was because they stopped being backwards compatible. I had PS, Gameboys and PC as a kid and it was my assumption my library would carry over to the next system. This was true for Gameboys up until the GBA SP and it was true for PC gaming and up to the PS2, but I really didn't want to have to decide between the PS2 or PS3 plugged into the TV.
So I kinda was like, I might as well just keep my PS2 and stick to PC for future games. I later had the Wii and Wii U but those were the last consoles I ever purchased
If I didn't have a modded vita, 3ds, steamdeck, and retroid flip I would totally buy this.

Steam deck needs a 1080p top screen clam case with extra ports and maybe a built in battery. Would be super awesome for ds or Wii as well as multi screen pc stuff. Also turning off the bottom screen and bypass to top screen for beautiful games that aren’t to power hungry.
I’d buy it twice.

One thing you missed about Playstation, their first party games are on sale more frequently on the PSN store vs PC store fronts. God of War came out in 2018, I bought it for $20 in 2019 during a Christmas/year end sales. Games released on the PC are full price of $60 or $70 now & rarely go on sale, especially the deep discounts. I did buy God of War 2018 on the PC too because I felt bad for paying just $20 on the PS4. The cost of the game console hardware that gets missed is that games are subsidized, so a $500 game console feels more like $200 console by the end of it's lifecycle. People who buy the game console later into the generation also buy it at lower prices and have game bundles which is further subsidized. All this occurs without the used market like Gamestop & other used game resellers. Throw in PS Plus essential which is needed for online play & it's no wonder PSN game libraries rival Steam libraries. I'm a PC Enthusiast & even with Humble bundles, the hardware cost of the PC or parts is not recouped nearly as much.
PS: I'm also playing Helldivers 2 on PS5, will buy it on PC when Cross-Save arrives. I also prefer DualShock 4 ergonomics over DualSense, so I'm looking forward to using that on PC.

Casual gamers started to learn charm of tactical-ish gunplay, you guys might want to try hosting some military shooter game sessions and play together. (Arma reforger is the only game that has full controller support afaik)

Waiting for an Android equivalent that doesn't cost more than 300 dollars. I would use it mainly for DS and 3DS emulation. Be nice to play those games on a dual screen in higher resolution
Agreed. I feel like x86 is really just not going to offer the price:performance that would fit a DS/3ds emulation system. They really should have released the flip ds as a separate project using ARM and Android (but keeping the form factor) instead of just lumping it in with the flip keyboard (which is actually a no brainer design choice for windows).
You'll be waiting a loooong time.
Hello fellas, just an interesting observation, I checked out Helldivers 2 compatibility on deck and noticed that they point out that "the game requires manual graphic configuration to work well on deck". It's the first time I've seen that note on a game, is that new?

@@NerdNest if you boot up quake2 thresh.cfg is wasd, no right click for lightning gun as that gun was only in q1
I think handheld is the way to go with anything and just making games more accessible across the board where everyone can play between android to microsoft to steam and full connectivity for syncing progress with an internet connection. Thats is the actual future. If i get an android game i should be able to play it on my Ally and also play multiplayer on it with someone who has a ps5 handheld or xbox habdheld etc. that is the revolution we gamers need

Does Helldivers 2 have Story Mode?
Anything that has got to do with cloud gaming sadly doesn't apply where I live cause of the internet infrastructure here. Not until gigabit internet is becoming a norm.

I bought a series X because of game pass and all the day one releases it was going to have, so I missed out on the PS5 exclusives. But I recently bought a steam deck OLED and now I can play game pass games on it and Sony games. And thank you to Russ, Emudeck was a huge selling point for me. So thank you guys 👍🏼

I think everyone is really overestimating the difference between 7840U and 8840U. It's basically the exact same hardware, they just stopped making new 7xxx chips and renamed all of the new chips to 8xxx model numbers. The only upgrade for the 8840U is the AI cores, no benefit for gaming. Some of the 7840U SKUs for the Flip DS are over $100 cheaper for the exact same performance.
An here I thought I was the only one to actually use my right hand to press the d-pad at times lol. Good to hear Helldivers 2 is worth it was hesitant at fist kinda wanna wait for a sale because I'm a cheap bastard.
Also I think we should be looking at gaming as soon the boxes aka console will eventually be obsolete after the next generation console because with handhelds blowing up after the decks release and so many others. It's definitely opened a market that I'm sure alot of developers didn't wanna be the first thr the door like vavle was but now that they see there is a big demand so handhelds will definitely be the future or like project Brooklin if we do have consoles it's gonna be the size of a roku stick and no more physical media everything will be online. My only peeve about game pass is you can't access your own library with actually having an Xbox or even Xbox pc. Honestly after getting my deck in late 2022 I'm done with consoles for life..Got a series s that just sits lol

I own all of the consoles, always have and always will, but I play primarily on Xbox because I prefer it as a platform. I prefer the store, the OS, the controller, the features (quick resume, smart delivery, etc), everything about it is better than the competition IMO. The one exception being the exclusive game library which is only a small percentage of the games I actually play. I'll continue to play on Xbox as my primary platform as long as it's an option for me.
Idk but I hope we get a device that does 100% emulation for dreamcast really really well and isn't a windows device.

I love playing my Xbox, the controller are insanely comfy, and I love Halo. If the put their games on PS, I'll stick with Xbox, but if they put them all on Switch/switch 2, dream come true, all I need in life then is a switch and my steam deck, though a dockable Xbox might intice me
Eh, I'd rather have a keyboard than another screen. 99.9% of NDS games can be played fine with one screen. For the 0.1% of the games that need two screens need a bigger and closer to the bezel. 10:21 Actually, I kinda do this on my computer, when I'm grinding on RPGs, basically no story line ATM, I watch youtube videos/movies/TV shows on my second monitor. Maybe I could see myself doing this on the go. Getting rid of the keyboard though? If their other variant was just open space I'd pick the screen but over a keyboard?

I always considered Xbox the cheaper/easier version of PC gaming. Playstation and Nintendo is where you went for exclusives. I've never bought an Xbox but I would consider one if they made a handheld with good mobile windows software to compete with the steam deck.
What about game for game all Xbox exclusive for all ps exclusive games, they are so many games that I want to play but I don't feel like buying a ps just for that, having I a PC you almost get all Xbox games too.
i really wish all these subscription based things would go away. its a lazy way to make more money without innovation in my opinion. also love the ayaneo flip ds! i subbed for you russ and im staying for the content and you of course lol! also edit made to say all games need to be cross play at this point!
Regarding the Xbox games on PlayStation..
I think Microsoft will allow their studio game's on PlayStation at full price but if you want them on Gamepass it will still be only Xbox/PC...that's a big deal for those casuals that only really play a handful of games like Call of Duty and want a cheaper way to play game's

Also, I hear that Hell Divers 2 has rootkit anti-cheat software that you cant remove, even when you delete the game from your computer. Apparently this gives full un-restricted access to your computer software and hardware that can be managed by a 3rd party. The devs say the software wont do anything malicious and assures that its removed after uninstall, but people have been finding it lingering around after they uninstall the game.
So keep that in mind if you decide to install this game. You will compromise your system.
I've said for a couple of years now that Game Pass is the key to getting everyone to pay for Playstation Plus.

A lot of the vitriol/feelings of betrayal comes from how Xbox has made statements that they bought all these game developers to create a library of first party exclusives. Now that they're finally hitting a release cadence of exclusives that people waited for, the exclusives they promised are no longer exclusive and fans stuck around, invested in the platform for nothing. This, coupled with the issue of some Xbox's mishandling of Redfall, Starfield releasing to mixed acclaim and not being the system seller it was expected to be, any confirmation of Xbox porting exclusives to Playstation would have people up at arms

As for gamepass being profitable its how you look at it. If you dont include the running costs of their game studios then they are making profit they are paying less money to 3rd parties than they are making. The issue is due to gamepass sales of 1st party games are at an all time low and they are VERY low now. Does the sales they do make plus what profit gamepass makes cover the studios? Not even close. So Ms will say gamepass is profitiable but they are being disingenous with that as they are losing probably billions on running those studios. Its why they have let go of so much staff lately.
Bringing in Activision was supposed to help with this however that only massively increases running costs and lets be fair MS got shafted on that deal as it took so long those studios wernt even worth half what they paid in the end. So yes gamepass is profitable if you dont include first party running costs but not if you do. I think this is why the strategys changing. I do think if Activision sale went through a lot sooner this wouldnt be happening and COD would be an xbox exclusive. But they had to offer it to PS and even nintendo to get the deal through for at least 10 years. They cannot continue to run as they are for 10 years.

By putting xbox game pass on steam, you are removing opportunities for publishers to sell their games on steam. Microsoft has paid for that on their platform but I don't see publishers agreeing to game pass on steam, unfortunately for us... PS Love your show

Hey there. So, the way I see it, there are three key differences between what you're saying and what I'm saying:
- I referenced GamePass most specifically and you're talking about Xbox as a brand
- I said profit and you're talking about revenue
- I believe you're referencing the recent reports which point out YoY growth but I'm referring to how they've been doing over the course of the last few years; not just this quarter.
