the more power the engine makes naturally the less "boost" you will see on the gauge...even though you are making more power. Boost is just the engines resistance to airflow.
I feel the same way. These guys are what got me started into automotive world 4 years back with the $50 go kart. I owe a lot to them for teaching me so much.
Once your done with the comparison between the built NA 420 and the “stock” boosted 420 you should slap the turbo and fuel injection on the built one and see what it does
You do realize turbos don't work well on one cylinder engines! You only have one intake valve one exhaust valve and for turbo to spin all the time and produce boost constantly you need more than one cylinder that way you have at least one cylinder spooling the turbo at all times
Chris W You could find one of those tiny Japanese made ASM300 superchargers online for $200. I know people use the ASM500 model which is a little bit larger to supercharge the 670 twins.
The idea at the end of episode is a really cool idea for a future series...you could side by side build them and then put them through a gauntlet of sorts...to see which one is more effective at giving you more "bang" for the buck...one of my favorite episodes so far. Set up a rear brake so it slides easy like if you in a car hand brake just to get the slide started. Love the videos I am from Australia and it 3:55 in the morning at the moment.

Hey, I know,, They make something called a boost gauge,, Probably sell them at Summit Racing,, should try one, It tells if your turbo makes boost or not.
You're not making that much boost because you only have one cylinder powering the turbo so it's only making boost when the exhaust valve is open if you had two cylinders then it would make constant boost because you would always have an exhaust valve open hence the turbo would spool constantly instead of only half of the time
There is an abandoned facility outside of town with miles of curvy roads, it is public land so you would be fine riding there, everyone like this comment so they will see.

Try to restrict the exhaust outlet off of the turbo. It might make a little more back pressure on the turbine and make more boost. Kinda like going to a smaller a/r turbine housing. Just thinking that little engine and being stock probably doesn’t move much air through it. So the exhaust gases probably aren’t all that much, in volume and velocity or speed... just a thought. Turbos rock!
I cant remember the details of the build at this point but advancing the timing a little will help a little as well. And the timing keys are cheap to get.
I'm sure it makes a nice difference. I have a Rhino 660 with a Garrett T20 turbo on it and it runs fantastic. Nearly everyone continuously says that single cylinder engines don't respond well to boost, and carburetors (which my 660 is) don't tune out well with boost ever. Yet the normal "build" for a Yamaha 660 is to bore it out to a 686, and my stock displacement at only 4psi is quite a bit stronger. Not to say it won't ever be a bit more temperamental, but by now it's pretty well dialed

Would love to see you lot get your hands on a Harley V-twin as well. And a Moki 400 radial;it's 22HP and weighs only 25lbs.
since the turbo has a wastegate on it. i would block off the diverter valve/bov itll help build the boost quicker and only "con" is youll hear some awesome compressor surge sounds which is kinda the point of a drift build if you ask me

You guys might be able to squeeze a little more out of that sucker with an accumulator on the intake side. I'ts just a big hollow section with like 1.5(?) times the displacement of the engine to even out the pulses from the engine. I remember Boosted Bois using one on their shopping kart with great effect.

Is it possible to have 2 turbos in series? Like a twin cylinder engine, each cylinder's exhaust goes to another turbo, but one turbo feeds air into the other turbo's intake that all feeds into one intake manifold....I want to see it happen😀
You might also look at the aisin supercharger for about 200 bucks, a lot of the motorcycle guys are using them to supercharge bikes. Give you more out of the hole. Just an opinion.

it won't build on the line with a clutch, you would need a viscous coupler and/or an electronic controlled anti lag system {bang bang}
Diesel Ramcharger if they ran E85 or race gas they can run more timing so it has less turbo lag
The one cylinder has gaps in time in between the 4 cycles that don’t allow it to build much boost at all, but .5 psi is a difference for sure

Better Front Brake, Wider Front Tire, Stouter Forks even without shocks the ride and handling would improve greatly but you already knew that.
Also some kind of tilt system in the front for cornering.
