Thank You. We try very hard to give the very best content and information possible. Keep watching and we will keep delivering… that’s my promise my friend.
Great content as always John! One of the first ever jobs we did ended up severely overloaded and should have been a $650 overage bill for me to collect at the end, but ultimately the bill never got paid. I was very frustrated with the client for not honoring our agreement, but even more so frustrated with myself for not being better. I ultimately ended up writing it off, but the lesson learned will stick with me forever. All we can do is our best, and learn from our mistakes to not repeat the same painful process. Keep up the great work!
As much as I don’t like hearing about others taking hits in this business, it’s one of the most valuable learning tools we have. Thanks for sharing your experience here on my channel with others in this industry. I hope you, myself and everyone else renting dumpsters continue to grow and learn from sharing experiences like this with others. Keep running a classy business Joe, I appreciate our friendship. 👊🏾
John, great content! There is so much content out there that is just "fluff". You pull back the curtain and let your audience see actual stats on your business, showing strength and weakness.
I appreciate your comment. I have said from Day 1 when I first started this channel, I will be fully transparent and truthful about everything I share. I take great pride in being the guy that everyone goes to get the facts. Nothing I do on this channel is about "views and likes," I know it's not for everyone, but for the guys wanting actually information, I feel this is the channel to watch. Thanks John makes me think more about my clientele profolio and my exposure . I always have a few invoices I end up eating at end of the year. One thing I just thought of .. do you know if you can send them a 1099c for forgiveness of the debt ? I'm going to have to ask my attorney and my CPA.
Not sure how your accountants handle a loss like an invoice not paid, but it def has some tax considerations for sure. Great contribution Dana. Thank You.
$1000 is nothing vs your gross, but I don’t like losing or letting people get over on me. I learned a $2500 lesson my first year in business and that definitely stung. Learn from mistakes and improve. 3/4 mil for basically one man show is impressive. Congrats on the success!
I'm with you, the principal of someone not paying eats at me pretty good. But I also need to take a moment and step back and realize that the amount I'm going to take a hit on is incredibly low for the total revenue I did this year. The lessons we learn in life that have the biggest impact are those that cost us money. Thanks for sharing your story and here's to 2024 my man. Let's all have a safe and growing year.
Hey. Your videos are really inspiring to me. I like your attitude about dealing with customers and just the general vibe. No bullshit. I apologize about not watching all your vids but what do you do about invoices? Handwritten - Mobile printer? I had a dumpster customer that was a real dick about not getting a paper invoice because i email invoices normally. He said he didn't have email account but he had an iphone 14 so yea. Anyway any thoughts on that?
I email all my invoices. It's 2024, your customer can figure out how to receive an invoice thru email. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos, very much appreciated Mike.
I’m not computer savvy and I even struggle on how to use my IPhone but that’s gonna change as I plan on taking some courses to overcome that & hey I’m almost 60 . Now , I can trim bushes w a pole saw and walk around em while doing so but the computer world hasn’t been my forte .
Thanks for the great info as always man! Love the content already so I'm very excited to see what you're bringing in 2024! Happy New Year and congrats on hitting 4 years soon!
Thank You! I'm excited for the New Year and all the opportunities it has for our industry. I appreciate you supporting the channel and taking the time to watch my videos. Drive safely out there and go crush those goals in 2024!
Thank you John. We have been watching your videos for about a year and followed your idea of putting out signs. 75% OF OUR RENTALS ARE BECAUSE OF THEM!! We never would have thought of doing it that way if it was not for you, so thanks again! Do you take all your payments online and then bill for overage? Do you bill after dumpsters are picked up for the whole deal sometimes? We only take cards on file and feel like we are missing out on a lot of money so decided to try taking zelle, apple pay and transfers. What do you think about running a card for a very small amount just to be able to save it for dump fees above what is included?
Love the fact the the yard signs or bandit signs are working so well for you guys. Sometimes it's the simplest ideas that can have the greatest impact. Everyone pays online for the initial dumpster and delivery as well as any add-ons. Then once the dumpster is picked up and emptied, I send a bill for tonnage charges and extra days, and any specialty items. I don't keep cards on file because of higher POS rates and lets face it, if you charge a card on file and the customer didn't want to pay... you now have a charge back which increase fee's and charges to the business. I try and keep it as simple as possible. Happy NEW YEAR Bruce, keep making waves in your market, you guys are def having an impact. Proud of you both.
@@samedaydumpster Ah! That makes sense. So you're not just running the card after having it on file. You get the initial payment up front, send a bill for the post paid tonnage, and they pay (most of them anyways) once they get the notification of the payment due after the service is completed. Are you including a photo of the weigh ticket or just the quantity?
love your content and very valid points!. I dropped a commercial account last year because I had to constantly chase my money. IT was a net30 account and I Was in my first year full time still so I didnt want to loose them at the time even though I was only getting about 12k a year from them but I had enough. I was always on time or early, we worked on holidays and bent over backwards for them and yet it was ok to screw us on money. I told them going forward, I need a check on the spot or I Cant do business with them and that was that. NO regrets.
I fire on average 1 customer about every 6 months. I don't like to fire them, but it's necessary a couple times a year to make space for new clients who respect and appreciate all our hard work.
John after the Lawyer's letter you were wrong... you have to go against the property you serviced mechanic's lien ... yes even if the owner of the property didn't hire you a mechanic's lien against the property
No idea... that's why I hire an attorney. They know the laws for my state, city and county and for the work we performed. I'll make sure to pass your legal advice on to him tho, and let him know that you said he did it wrong.
It's the principle, lif you don't make them pay for service rendered then they will try the same con game with another business and another and another because nobody is going to make them pay up! Try filing for a Mechanic's Lien if you can, it's usually for builder's and contractors who do improvement on someone's property and land and customer refuses to pay for: service, material, and labor cost. It's a lien on customer's house and land and it takes TOP PRIORITY with the judges in court! Time is of the essence, file a lien within 90 days of job completion
I think that's solid advice for anyone wanting to go that route. I prefer to keep it out of court, not letting it get to that point, and keeping the potential problematic rentals on a close leash sort of speak. If you do enough rentals, you're going to eat a few here and there as there's no such "fool proof" system. I try to constantly improve mine and keep the loopholes to a minimum. It's always changing, but it def takes a lot of work for sure. Thanks for sharing your way with all the guys looking for some help here. Much appreciated.
@@samedaydumpster Everybody needs a Casey. He is so good at what he does. I've found his IG and seen his acting spots too. The guy is SERIOUSLY talented.

That's a very good question for your guys in Canada... I have no idea! I choose not to keep a credit card on file, because I still feel that trust is the most important part of my business relationship with my customers.
