100 percent agreed with you John it's all about being diversified . That's the exact reason why I give my clients so many options and the ability to handle large amounts of their needs from tree care, (trimming and removals) , stump grinding landscaping, junk removal, dumpsters, and more.
16:48 I have been really enjoying your program & I’m mentally getting closer to choosing to start a service like this. At this point in your program I wanted to really praise you because of what my most important thought is “sellablity” of the service. You explained a nice point there that hit me for what that’s worth. Thanks
21:45 another great point, which reminds me of being the union carpenter company that was available to get all the T & M work because they were there & available now. Problem solved, the graviest of money.
Just sharing my thoughts and what works well for me. You know what I find interesting about this industry? It's clear that most guys with any knowledge don't want to share anything with the younger guys. I can't figure it out... They act as if sharing their knowledge somehow takes away from what they are doing. It's mind blowing honestly. I appreciate the support and trust my friend.
Hi john have been watching you the past couple of weeks. I’ve been given an opportunity to buy a friends established dumpster rental business. He presently runs a gooseneck trailer system. I want to go to a truck. I’m unsure as what system would be better the hook lift or switch n go. I found a nice used f550 that I could put either system on.
Honestly I personally wouldn't purchase a Switch N Go unless you are dedicated to the landscape business. Most guys outgrow them pretty quickly. You are better off on a truck and trailer until you can justify a hooklift truck.... just my opinion.
I would start out with what you can efficiently manage and afford. I wouldn’t worry too much for your first 5-8 dumpsters. But once you reach about 8-10 dumpsters is when you really need to start offering different sizes and styles as a must. Concrete / Dirt style cans, smaller size to fit in tight areas for customers, a few larger size for contractors…. That’s how I would get started.
Enjoy watching your content, you have a lot of interesting points and perspectives on things. I would love to know how many yards your concrete dirt dumpsters are? I’m entertaining offering the option and would appreciate the info.
I appreciate the compliment. Thank You Derek. We have two different size concrete dumpsters… but the one I talk about most and post most frequently is 7 cy size.
I watch all of your content. I think you are dead on in what you say. I'm targetting small builders and residential clients. Ordering concrete dumpsters soon. Thanks for all the advice.
Honestly don't know. For a couple of reasons, First, I personally don't use any type of App to run this business. Secondly, I'm not doing business in Canada. But maybe another viewer will see this question and offer up a suggestion. Guys.... help my man our here? Who's in Canada that can help answer this question?
This is how my inventory breakdown: 36% of my total dumpsters are concrete dumpsters. 20% are my signature "Load N Go" ( 12 cy size dumpsters ). 27% are my 17 cy size dumpsters. And 17% are 22 cy size dumpsters. Thanks for taking the time to watch this episode.
I tried posting a link to the Yahoo Finance story, but am unable to post the link. Anyway, Home Depot saw softness in US home remodeling in the first quarter of 2023 and expects this softness to continue through 2024.
If you are taking financial advice from Home Depot I would say that you have something to worry about. If you can read markets yourself and trust your own knowledge over something feed to you in your news feed, then you have nothing but a bright future. My two scents worth. Thanks for contributing to this topic 👊🏾
@@samedaydumpster I do trust HD data regarding US home remodeling trends. It’s ironic you’d criticize this and suggest folks trust their own intuition as you post your own predictions on the internet for others.

25 years in this business 15 trucks over 600 bins and I just disagree with you almost with every single point I have 10 , 15, 20 , 25 , 30 and 40 yards dumpsters … trust me you have NO idea what are you talking about what’s coming won’t be pretty at all
I'm forever a student of this business my friend. Please share your business name and website with me so I can learn from somebody with so much experience.
I'm not in this business, but when he's saying it won't be pretty at all. I could only assume it would be because of an over saturation of dumpster companies. Theres only X amount of demand and money in a market, so someday there could come a point when it's harder to get more work. The other aspect of that is these new companies charging less money which overall will affect how much people are willing to pay. As well as how much we can profit making less money per dumpster and getting less drops. Who knows how long it will be before this all happens, I don't know it could be awhile or it may be only 5 or 10 years

All great information and being diversified is a must. For someone who is just starting out how many dumpsters should one have and which types?

Always look for the up-sell.
Heck McDonald's and Home Depot are always trying to up-sell.
It’s the power of suggestion and letting your clients know all that you offer. The term we use is “Rental +” Thanks for the feedback
