Man, did you hit the nail on the head with having your network of guys you can rely on. I took my 2018 Ram in to get a couple of recalls handled before I delete it. I had a tiny oil leak and the diesel tech confirmed my suspicion that it was the timing cover gasket. I contacted Ram and they covered it under warranty. We made arrangements for the local dealership to do the service. They said it would take “about a week”. One of my closest friends let me borrow his Ram for the week. It ended up taking 3 full weeks. He never batted an eye and let me keep it the entire time. I was able to set and pick cans for 3 weeks because he saved my ass!
Friends and solid guys who help without expectation in return are priceless in life and in this industry. Good to hear you have a strong network brother.
John and Mike, consider subbing some deliveries and pickups to a local professional tow company. We usually have 20 foot flat decks that’ll hold 5-6 tons. So you should have room for 4-5 tons plus the dumpster. Might be a slightly higher cost than someone else with a Hooklift, but if you’re in a pinch, it could help.
Super valid point. I actually share part of my dumpster yard with a tow truck company and we have already discussed helping each other out when needed. I haven't had to use them yet, but he's in my phone and believe he would help out on a moments notice if called upon. Looking back I should have brought this up in the video. Great suggestion on your part, Thank You for sharing this with everyone on the channel. Very smart and very much appreciated.
People always forget to account for quarterly taxes and professional tax preparation...Yes, this a cost but it is so important that business owners get this right.
Great point. And I agree with your comment, it's purely an afterthought when it comes to booking keeping, accountants and taxes. Much appreciate your contribution brother.
I’ve come up against a dead end in my startup Hooklift business. the state I live in will not grant me the permit needed to be able to drop dumpsters. It’s regulatory crap through the public service commission. Long story short I’m going to have to sell my equipment. I’m wondering if you knew some outlets for selling a couple brand new dumpsters and a 26,000gvw truck with a brand new swaploader. I pray no one else has to experience the unbelievable disappointment of the state they live in creating a state promoted monopoly of a privately run company. Any advice would be greatly welcomed and appreciated
Great episode, I think Valley dumpsters has a pink dumpster that donates a portions of the proceeds to cancer I think, to bad Mike didn’t talk about it, it’s a great idea, as always very interesting, nice job John 👍
I know he has a pink dumpster in his arsenal, but had no idea he donates a portion of those proceeds. Wish I would have known that, we def would have talked about that. It's a great idea for anyone looking for additional ways to show support back to their community. I appreciate you letting me know this. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video.
I work for a company that’s been in business since the 30s. I’m not sure how long the dumpster part of the business has been around here but it’s obvious that the flat fee we have has been working for them for decades, mainly because we’re the only landfill around. I’m in a market where there are so many dumpster companies out here and competition is ridiculous even though our competitors dump at our site. I get more and more customers by the day requesting smaller dumpsters than we offer (we do primarily 20 and 30yd). Or customers asking about cheaper pricing is available for only a day to 3 days instead of the 7. I want to approach my bosses and say everything I watched in your video because it makes sense.
In mind mind its pretty simple, the world of business changes daily and businesses that are struck doing business the same way for decades are rarely on the cutting edge anymore. I don't change because I like to, I change because our clients needs, wants and projects change that require a new approach to getting things done with the most effective tools and timing and pricing. Every time their landfill changes pricing to keep up with expense, it creates a new opportunity for other dumpster businesses in their area to get even more creative and offer more value that other businesses that refuse to adapt and no longer offer no incentives. The world changes and you can either change or get left behind. Hope this helps my friend. I appreciate you taking the time to watch a few videos and support the channel. Thanks You.
I love tacos..... alone or not I'll still knock down a solid 5 - 6 of em. Network or get pushed to the side when the tide comes rolling in. Great video like always.
I really appreciate this comment. Thank You for watching and letting me know its helping others in the game. Drive safely out there. Stay safe my friend.
I own a landscape business. I recently switched to Zelle. I don’t get a fee through my bank. It goes directly into my account. I don’t charge a fee to my customers.
I recommend purchasing from Jake at Quality Truck. They are here at Waste Expo and they have a Peterbilt 536 ( exactly like mine ) that is here in Las Vegas and available for sale. Call Jake @ 989.424.7401
I’m doing all my groundwork to get into the game soon and insurance is something that I know is very important. Any suggestions on who to use to go down that road the RIGHT way. Thanks love your channel
@@samedaydumpster Thanks man! Would you mind sharing what shop you use to build out your trucks. I really want to get the Chevy 6500 set up your running with the Palfinger.
How do you stay under 26k and ensure your loads are not overweight seems like a small margin for error? How do you feel about luggers for someone starting out to get their feet under them?
Def need to be aware what size dumpster you are giving each client. Ask a lot of questions and keep your head on a swivel and it's very doable and repeatable on a large scale.
Incorrect. I didn’t discuss anything about trailers, because I don’t pull one. But none of what I’m saying applies to hauling trailers. With my truck, if you pull ANY trailer behind it, you’ll be required to have a cdl. Hope this helps my guy
@@samedaydumpster yea i dont know why i put trailer , i meant if my truck is under 26k and once i put an dumpster on the back would i need cdl if the weight is over 26k. thanks
I would love to do a ride along one day with you. I've been in the Trash business my entire life and 38 years old. I originally just pretty much went out on my own and have a truck that goes out every day and sometimes a part-time driver. My situation is a little unique though because I was born with the birth defect that I am legally blonde so therefore I cannot drive so obviously that makes my situation a little more difficult than others but nonetheless, I'm not the type I've worked my whole life just trying to grow, but would love to pick your brain for a day very interested in your operation.
I think the dumpster business in California, regardless of where you live is a great opportunity that's just incredibly profitable for anyone that's willing to put in the work.
Wow. I’m glad I don’t live in California. Those rules and costs are crazy. Ohio doesn’t care who or where the junk comes from. They are just happy that people are cleaning up their homes.
@@jesusfelix2605 ok. I’m just glad I can travel to any county in Ohio, or surrounding state and put a dumpster there and nobody cares or asks for a cut of the profits.
There's def a lot of rules and regulations in California, depending on the county or city... but hey... that's the cost to live by the ocean with incredible year round weather I guess.
