  • Until now I have always just rode my TW200 to go motocamping or on Adventures. But since my friend invited me to go camping and riding at a far away place for 3 nights I decided I wound need to haul my bike there somehow. Instead of getting a trailer I decided on a Motorcycle Hitch Carrier. I looked for one with the best reviews so I went with a Black Widow MCC-500. It arrived just in time for me to put it together. and now it's time to put it to the test. Ill let you know If I ever have any big problems with it. Thanks for watching and stay safe!

      I’m a bit confused. The inside width of this carrier is about 5 1/2 inches but the rear tire on the TW is over 7 inches. Is this an issue or am I getting something wrong? I purchased the aluminum version www.amazon.com/dp/B001IUV1CM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_QDFDM0WG76K3C42ASQ1B?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. Will this one work. Thanks for your help! My tub is coming in this weekend!

      followed your advice and got this carrier, and used it to get bikes to the Touratech rally in Washington. Worked like a charm, easy to build/install, and was rock solid transportation! Thanks, TDub's Kid!!

    Thanks TDubsKid! I always enjoy watching your videos. My Harbor Freight MC carrier has worked great and looks almost identical to the Black Widow. I've had it for almost 3 years now and have taken several thousand+ mile trips. I do use straps from the ramp to lift it up toward secure tie-down points at the back of my vehicle. This seems to provide better load carrying vectors and eliminates the hitch wobble. I also use a fork brace to reduce bouncing and potential damage to the front suspension (a block of wood cut to fit works fine.)

      hey no problem! thanks for watching! nice, if it works it works! I think my friend just didn't strap his bike down well enough. nice that's a good way to do it. the tw is hard to use a fork brack because of the fender being lower

    Great video. These motorcycle carriers work well and I have been transporting my TW200 for years this way. I installed a hitch receiver to the front of my truck so that I can carry the TW on the front and pull a camp trailer. Went to Yellowstone park this way last summer. Mr. TDubsKid, please keep the videos coming!

    Great video. I have a carrier like this also. To save the bike suspension, I have started to place a 4x4 block of wood between the triple tree and fender mound as well as on on the back tire under the seat. This allows me to tighten the bike down with some pressure but not bottoming out the suspension.

    Hitch carriers are the way to go vs. a trailer especially in many circumstances. You are the T-Dub video King, Brother! I'm sure many enjoy and learn with your content. Missing mine but it went to a good home. Really could use the insane MPG's these days for running errands etc; Drive On! or Ride On!

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  ปีที่แล้ว

      indeed! I really need to put some brake lights and turn signals on it. it's going to work great on my 350 van though. it has like 1200lb tongue weight capacity haha could even do a double carrier. yeah I hear most people regret selling them. the mpg is great. thanks!

    I hook the straps on to the trailer first and rest one on the rear wiper blade and the other ready below and wheel the bike up and with one hand grab the strap and hook it onto the handlebar and then do the other. That way you don't have to lean it on your glass. There is an art to it all!✌

    The aluminium version of this carrier, the Black Widow AMC-400L, has served me well over the years and it's lighter weight. I strongly reccomend using 3 ratchet straps, one on either side of the forks and one through the rear wheel so that it can't jump out. I just chucked the anti-wobble device. The carrier bounces around in the reciever a bit but no harm no foul. I carry my Tdub on the back of my Jeep TJ down washed out Appalachian fire roads and it hasn't let me down. I do have my hitch reciever welded into my steel bumper to get the whole carrier up higher otherwise it would scrape on even a moderate approach or departure.🤙

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice! glad it worked out well yeah that is what happened to my friends, it bounced out, he didn't strap it well. yeah mine will scrape a bit, I mostly just need to fix my rear suspension, it's sagging even without anything on there haha

    That's a great go anywhere setup that won't break the bank. Now you've got a robust base camp and primary vehicle, and a scouting vehicle kit.....Fantastic !! Put a leash on the retaining Clip for the hitch Pin before it gets lost, or have a spare.

    I had a similar carrier on my 08 Grand Cherokee. The hitch on those sits a little higher (good for off road) so my fat TW tires covered my taillights perfectly. But I just got a cheap set of magnetic tow lights for like $20 that mounted super easily on some flat spots on the ramp. Awesome video!

    • @I_Santos_
      @I_Santos_ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@arcadegamesifyhonestly, it did really well. I believe that hitch was rated for a 500lb tongue weight. Now granted, the bike stuck out a little bit behind the hitch adding leverage, but it was also MUCH lighter than the max weight. I did feel a slight lightness on the front wheels since there was eight over the back end, but nothing even remotely sketchy. Very stable.

    I made my own with thicker side wall tubing and all one piece lengths . I also added tail lights cause the truck lights are kind of hidden by the bike and i don't want someone running into the bike simple add . Also picked up 4 screw on chair leg rubbers for ramp to stop rattle . Also added 2 pieces of tubing one each end to use tie downs on . I also use one tiedown from back rack to truck to stop bike from falling off on up hill and take offs .

    I have a B-Dawg hitch exactly like this and if your bike is light enough, you can actually lift the bike on and off on your own without using a ramp. Just position the bike right next to the hitch and lift the front tire onto the rack and then the rear one. I always have the rear tire go on last and come off first since the front tire will stay in place on the rack and not roll around while handling the heavier half of the bike. I only figured this out because one day I happened to forget the ramp at home, but you don't even need to use a ramp if you can get comfortable doing it that way. Otherwise, everything else you said is exactly the way I load my bike. I usually use 4 straps: one to each handle bar and one to the frame on each side right behind the foot pegs as a precaution in case one of the upper ones let go from an unexpected bump. It wouldn't hurt to wrap a towel around the handle closest to the window if you're overly concerned about it hitting the rear window as well

The TW200, Honda CRF 300L, and Suzuki DR650 are the leaders in my mind to have as a first time dual sport bike. I might have access to a 1992 BMW R100GS as well at some point.

    Great video as usual. Add nuts to the adjustment side of the stabilizer to use as jam nuts, should help with them backing out. You lost the outside 2 which tells me it probably deformed the end of the bolts a bit from all the torsion of the carrier, making them loose enough to back out. Lots of leverage on them once the carrier is on.
    May not hurt to weld nuts on the end of the bolts if there is room, grind them smooth and flat, for more surface area for them to apply pressure.

    I have a HF one (same thing, different badge). The older ones were all Aluminum but my newer one has a steel core. I've been happy (Frontier with 250 EXC) but TBH I don't trust it too much on rough ground - which is an issue. I was going to say on yours with a cap - heavy braking will grip-smack your window - you could slide your bars to the left in the clamp for the journey maybe (remember to adjust and tighten though!!). You're supposed to roll-off forward (the ramp goes on both sides - roll-on, roll-off) but I found checking it up is easier like you dod - the ramp usually falls off!! I tie the wheels to the ramp (at the bottom of the wheel) too - overkill maybe but whatever. Nice vid :-)

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice! is it half aluminum still? this one is all steel. nice I think the newer hf ones are better. I havn't had an issue with mine, it stays put in the carrier, and plenty of clearance between handle bars and window. you gotta make sure they are strapped down well. I just roll it off backward because the big rear tire won't fit through the center part easy. thanks!

    Hey T-dubs! I have this carrier as well and I think the wide rear tire makes the ramp wobbly like that. It does that to me every time, even on flat level surfaces. I drilled some small holes on the carrier and the ramp and I use a little bit of wire to secure the ramp to the carrier which prevents the wobble and the ramp from falling off. It just take a little extra time.

    I prefer the boss, it has a better anti vibration/wobble system at the hitch receiver, built in lights, and the whole thing rotates. It's designed to carry up to 450 pounds. It doesn't have a separate ramp, the whole thing pivots and has a shaft to lock it in place. Also, I'd recommend you get some spacers for your suspension when you travel.

My camping rig is a V8 Chevy Colorado with a shell, my daily is a Fiesta ST, and my weekend car is an LS/Tremec 6-speed swapped 78 El Camino. By all rights, I should be a Harley guy, but I currently have two TW200s (an old mostly stock one that was my girlfriend/loaner bike and a heavily modified 2019 that’s my usual ride), a Honda Trail 125 (new girlfriend/loaner bike), and a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (not nearly as ‘scrambler-y as it pretends to be, here’s hoping Yamaha builds a 3xx Ténéré to compete with the KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310GS, Honda CRF300L Rally, and other midweight duallies/adventure bikes soon to replace it!). Go figure. I guess I just like to be fast on four wheels, slow on two, and like low-stress low-end torque. If there was a lightweight, fat-tired diesel dual sport I’d probably want one, haha! Or a 300-400cc lightweight off-road-focused air-cooled parallel twin adventure bike, really.
