Great video. I have the same hitch carrier coming in soon but it's branded under a different name (Ecotrik). I can see the cradle is probably not necessary or even a good idea on bikes much over 300 lbs since it won't hold the bike up anyway and it's such a pain to pull it back over it. The straps hold it in place. Thank you for not editing out your struggles as well as your successes in using this carrier. I'm using it on a 1/2 ton truck and will definitely use the bed tiedown anchors as well to stabilize the bike. You're so right on the bed being a bit too high to comfortably load the bike onto unless some kind of berm can be used to offset that height difference. That's not always practical though. Thanks again!
You are very welcome, yes I contemplated getting rid of the cradle. Like you said prob not needed for bike of weight. Hope you have great luck with yours. Ride safe
I have the same rack and Tuareg. Bought the rack originally for my KTM 690. I ended up with the same strap configuration and feel comfortable with how it rides. Best!
I am going to practice with the carrier directly on the grass in my front yard (not attached to the truck). I am hoping to stabilize the carrier on either end with a multitude of 2X4's. This will be for my practice. I'll also figure out my ideal strap locations. I have a Tenere 700 - and like you probably have the same size front 21" tire. Since I have to get the hang of this on my own, thanks to your video, the cradle is a goner! Thanks for doing this video!
I was going to suggest the same thing and take that wedge off. You don't need it because you can put a wheel chalk behind the tire with a strap or bungie. I was thinking of making a temporary 1" square steel bar to connect to the handle bar so it will stay up while I hook the straps.
I have the same carrier but I got mine from harbor freight (it is the exact same carrier). I use it to haul a 280lb dual sport. My personal config uses 6 ratchet straps. 4 to hold the bike to the carrier and then two that attach the bike to the bed tie downs like what you ended up doing. Before I just used the 4 straps it rocked a ton but after adding the straps that hook to the bed tie downs it was wayyyyyy more stable and I've taken it on the highway going 80, on bumpy Montana dirt logging roads in the mountains and it's been awesome. The extra anchoring to the truck makes a world of difference because it makes 3 points of contact vs 1
@@wolfmanmoto660 how has it been treating you any your bike? I'm curious to know how it is with a heavier bike bc I'm looking to upgrade to something similar to what you have. Beautiful bike btw
Finally!!! Great video, thanks for the thorough video, thats what ive been looking for! Watched this before deciding to order for my BDR trip across to the west half of US
Hey Wolfman! Thanks so much for posting this up. You are a Viking! Brother that heat is just brutal. I surely appreciate you not editing out the struggle you encountered getting that big, beastly beauty of a bike up on the rack. I had just ordered the Black Widow MCC500 and saw your video. I cancelled that and ordered what you have. My bike is a Honda XR650L so not too heavy, but like you, I like stability when I'm loading things. I'm in Colorado and it gets hot here (to me anyway), but nothing like y'all get there in TX!
Great video, looking forward to my carrier to come in. Got tired of ramping into the back of the truck. Main plan is for my 315lb dual sport but might also use it for my heavier FJ09.
Thanks. Very informative video. I just ordered the Black Widow AMC-600-2-PRO 2-bike hitch carrier. I’m going to attempt to put a KLX300 AND a TW200 on the back of my 2021 Ford Ranger. Please say a prayer for me tonight. 🙏
Wow, thanks for the video. Should be a piece of cake for my ultra light adventure bike. (KTM 500). Also thanks for reminding me why I bought the KTM hahahaha.
Great vid-have that same Black widow unit for my DR650. Did a trial run in the hood-did not feel comfortable w/the wobble same as you describe. Seems like my Ford Ranger can handle it but agree the extra strapping to the upper rear of the vehicle would add stability. Will try that again this coming spring -hopefully will feel confident enough to hit the roads!
Just bought the mcc-500 with the tire slot pegs for my jeep, looking for tips. All I want to do is help you get that bike off that ramp lol. Wishing I bought one with a solid ramp/floor like this one. I have a 150lb Ebike (onyx Cty2). Hvnt towed it yet
Have used a lighter duty version similar to your model with my KX250 when I don't want to trailer up. In fact, I put a front hitch on my Excursion and hauled it that way when towing a camp trailer to the dunes for a boy's weekend away. Now I have an F150 and take my sport bike with me on extended work trips. Pain in the butt to load in the back of the truck since the bike has little clearance. Sport tires are too wide for my KX hauler, so I may need to pick up one of these Black Widow haulers and try it out.
I’ve done a truck bed (first Gen Tundra 4x4, truck bed pretty high), a trailer (kendon and generic) and a trailer hitch on a Land Cruiser. Trailer by far the easiest to load and unload. Oh, with bikes about 340lbs. Didn’t love the trailer hitch rack at all. Made me super nervous. My little clamp also didn’t fit for different reasons. I put some JB weld on the junction before I headed off. Good for 1 run then it sort of crumbled. But it worked. I recently sold my kendon trailer. Will replace it when one pops up on FB marketplace. (Mine had no title and I didn’t want to hassle with Tarrant county to get it registered. The VIN was unreadable). Small urban house with no outside room for a trailer and the kendon fits in a normal garage. I wish you well, but long-term, I don’t think it’s a good deal for a heavy bike. Use a trailer, or by an El Camino 😂.
It's been a year... How has the rack held up? Still happy? Would you recommend? Also, how much does your bike weigh? (My bike is 440lbs, so I'm keen to know if this rack will comfortably hold it..) Thank you...
Im in north FLA.. Its purty flat here Seems like if You put the trucks rear wheels in a recess or slight ditch ANY WHERE,,, You might could lower the loading height 10" 15". IMAGINE THAT.
@ 11:35. Easier done than said. 😂😂😂 Do yourself a favor so the bike doesn’t fall in you. Build or buy an 18” wide X 12” high X 60” long aluminum step with anti-skid tape so it will support you from the middle of that ramp to at least the middle of your truck where the hitch is. If the legs retract it’ll be so compact, it won’t take up any space in your garage or shed. You can also use this 12” tall step for loading and unloading your truck. You were struggling getting that bike on there with almost no room for error. Stay cool .
I have been carrying my 2008 KLR650 in that rack for about 15 years now behind my motorhomes. It's definitely a 2 person job loading, and unloading my bike.
Thank you! This video was fantastic. I'm looking into getting a Black Widow carrier and you answered all my questions. Very helpful. I know watching the bike bounce around can be stressful, but I believe no matter what kind of road conditions you drive across the bike isn't going anywhere. Did you add the non-slip on the ramp and carrier? Purchased from?
Thank You! I read under the "cons" that the ramp was slippery and it didn't show any kind of traction, but I noticed in your video it had a gritty look instead of shiny paint.@@wolfmanmoto660

I’m thinking of getting the full width aluminum ramp for your tailgates $500 vs $399 maybe this would help us older people not fall when riding into the truck ? The ramps full width of your tailgate rated 1500 lbs aluminum so light not to expensive. Maybe a rack or wider ramp I’m thinking 🤔 maybe
I appreciate the video! I tried to load a Harley Heritage softail in a toy hauler and on a landscape trailer for the first time and stalled out on the ramp first try. It is impressive the way you held the bike especially when it started getting up on the ramp. I have a 3500 like yours. My 1250 BMW GSa weighs as much as your bike. Do you think i would have problems with it? Also I would like to try a fromt receiver for the front of the truck when i am pulling a trailer.
I'd be unnerved about the tailgate getting beat up too. Weather in Texas is hot enough to fry your nerves! Those extra straps seemed to do the trick. Until I have to I am going to stick to a trailer. I don't have your strenghth to hold it off of my tail gate or front bumper. Do you think this hitch would hold a scooter? I mean will the scooter tire fit in the cshock without tearing up the tire or hub of the scooter? I'll be working with a Honda 49cc metropolitan.

Around fork at axle is a better tie down spot. Don't have to compress forks.
