For those curious about the Orange Island glitch:
There are two variations of that breakable block: one intended for placement outside of water, and one intended for inside of water. The programmers accidentally placed one meant for being underwater right there instead of one being meant for being over water.
When Kirby breaks the underwater breakable block, it thus becomes a single tile of water instead of a blank space (air).
When Kirby leaves water, he jumps upward. At that tile, while falling, he leaves the water from the bottom but raises up again (as he is leaving water)...but that brings him back into the water tile, which makes him sink again.
When Kirby uses his Stone ability, he moves up a little.
Suddenly, he's underwater, using an ability. The game does not expect Kirby to be using abilities underwater.

The glitched screen from the stone ability is not only frame-dependent, it’s also total game time-dependent. You could theoretically load any area of the game if you waited the right amount of time, depending on the button combo. This is also why the main tile background is dozens of tiny Kirby’s in various frames of animation

Still the best NES game ever made, as far as graphics go. Most publications consider it the game that pushed the NES to its limits.

Cirno I meant digitally. If you consider SMB3's art style superior, that's your opinion and it's subjective :) but, digitally speaking, both this and Battletoads pushed the NES to its limit.

Cirno Digitally, Kirby is. It's pushing the NES to a greater limit and came out in the nineties, at a time where the NES' potential had been fully tapped.
What you're saying is STILL subjective. Digitally, Kirby's Adventure wins. In your opinion, Super Mario Bros. 3 wins. I respect that, but don't mix these two things up, please.

Wow, that Stone glitch is pretty interesting. If it can randomly take you to the credits of the game, I imagine that's super helpful for speedrunners- if they can actually get it to work.
Of course that doesn't really help for a 100% speed run...

I just accidentally discovered a new way to pull off the keep sword glitch. I was in Grape Garden 1 and expelled my sword at the same frame a UFO enemy ran into me and I kept the sword with normal status while the star just bounced away.

I really really don't consider the HAL room a glitch, just an easter egg. There's HAL rooms in most kirby games, some more hidden than others, especially the first world one in Return to Dreamland.
And if he hadn't included it, what would have happened? A hundred or more comments saying he "forgot" that "glitch"...
I think it was considered a glitch when it first appeared.

Dalmnolk Ukans That's odd, I have the PS2 version, and I hate it very much due to poor controls. It's the worse port out of the 3, the others being Xbox and Gamecube.

I have a sad. I just tried to do the "Normal Sword" Kirby glitch on my 3DS in the "3D Classics" version of Kirby's Adventure, and the glitch doesn't work. D:

This game is such a tour de force in 8-bit programming. You have deflated me by pointing out these glitches. And by the way, at 5:31 you mention "the quickest way to get stone". I think that getting stoned would go well with this game.

On super smash brothers for the Wii U, this game is available as a demo far enough to do 5:30. It actually fun to try and complete this glitch in the demo time (it's possible but hard if you're a noob like me)

The HAL screen is actually an example of a "teleport" location, accessed by the warp stars. The game engine uses off-screen doors to tell the stars where to send Kirby.
Here is a litte glitch i found out myself; if you beat any boss with the tornado ability and then spin into the starrod, the little dust cloud that follows kirby while beeing in the tornadostate will remain trough his cute happy dance.

I never knew about the HAL easter egg until now. Also, crazy madness with that Stone Kirby glitch. Didn't think a game like this had major glitches like this. The more you know, I guess.
The mike glitch also works in the warp area when you activate the third mike just underneath the hovering start and you have to time it before the star sinks and touches kirby. After the animation is resolved, the warp activates and viola.

+Fisherman 765 It's obviously intentional. There would be no reason for such an easy "setup" to cause HAL to coincidentally appear. It hardly counts as a setup considering it's not a glitch, and it's pathetically easy. This could be discovered accidentally by simply messing around.
The star glitch may have been found while testing the game, but instead of fixing it, they added the easter egg.

i think with most screens of the game that have a warp star, the glitch was corrected, or at least made impossible to do (due to lack of scrolling, etc.)

Oh wow I didn't know there was an easier way to see the HAL room lol. The way I learnt it was to stand on a certain block near the cannon with the ability from the sir kibble enemy, then by pressing select the star with the ability should bounce to the right where the warp star is located, and upon going right the warp star would be gone and the room would be there.
7:30 fun fact, you can do this same credits warp in the first stage if you swallow two beam enemies at the same time, get stone from the power wheel, and do a sub-pixel perfect clip through the floor in the third room

The HAL "glitch" is an Easter egg. It also happens in Kirby Returns To Dreamland.
I personally think it doesn't happen JUST in Kirby Returns to Dreamland. I think it happens to MOST Kirby games.

I discovered the 256 mic ability glitch as a kid cause I always liked finishing the bosses off at the same time as collecting the star rod piece.
0:15 I think this glitch is the reason why waddle dee, meta knight, and King Dedede are clones of existing Kirby abilities. also, this glitch is caused to any ability that has an effect while in water. which is why Kirby will just splash water when this glitch is performed with abilities other than sword, hammer, ufo, parasol, etc.

Hey, A+Start! I just found a glitch, on third world one the second level if you lure the boss to the edge of the room (the border of the screen) when the boss grabs you, start pressing random buttons each in-game frame, there's a 50/50 chance that you will get it. Press up to float to do the glitch (I don't know if you can do this on the NES, I did it on the Nintendo Wii)

I also had a similar glitch like the keep your ability one, but the game thought I had an ability, when I didn't. The box that displayed Kirby's current ability showed UFO, but I was in a normal state. If I inhaled a special enemy, It gave me a MIX type ability. Even If I lost the ability I got from the MIX, I still had "UFO" in the display HUD.

I was playing Kirby on my switch last night. Can confirm you can do the lion cutter boss trick on the switch!
I, after doing my internet game research, have found out that the HAL Room was kinda intended, but IS actually a glitch. This is noted in the "Trivia" section for the "HAL Room" article on Kirby Wiki.
I'm doing a beam run, where you get the beam ability from the first enemy, then when you get to the final metaknight battle, you have to get the sword, which is the only exception to the beam rule.
I'm stuck at the alarm clock.
Here are a few interesting points:
Vinyl record/wheel: This one was the second most difficult but possible boss. For this one, hit it before its first attack. It will roll to the left. Jump and press up. Land safely. Beam the mini wheels, turn the opposite direction, jump and beam. Repeat that.
Enemy scatter: This was the most difficult but possible boss. I won't go into detail how I beat it because it takes so much steps, but the order I beat them was: Top axe, fork thrower, fork thrower 2, middle spike ball, top spike ball, middle axe, top fork thrower, bottom axe, fast spike ball, fast spike ball 2, fast spike ball 3. The fast spike balls were the hardest.
Big bomb thrower: Hit with beam, run to tip of second cloud mountain, beam bomb, beam, walk to next cloud bump, repeat.
I also tried the level 6-1 glitch. I was surprised to see it actually worked on my Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition for Wii.
Here's one you missed, on the Level 2 map Ice Cream Island (This is where I discovered it way back when) if you use the Ball ability just as you enter the water, you'll remain in ball form as if there was no water at all. (Not sure if this works everywhere, I also remember it being doable with stone)
The "stuck in ice" glitch was also shown by Nintendo Unity on the 32 Ways to Fail video of this game
The last fail was after Kirby killed one of the Sir Kibbles, and then he jumped through the middle block and got hit by the other Sir Kibble and died
I think the thing with HAL spelled out in blocks is actually a glitch. It appears to be the same screen as a section of the credits, so they could have just put that section of the credits in an unreachable spot in a level.
Regarding the glitch talked about throughout the beginning of the video, there is a way to tell whether the glitch is working or not. If you see the power-up star appear behind Kirby, but Kirby is still holding the item/transformed into a UFO, the glitch worked. But if Kirby is completely transformed back to normal by the time the pause screen loads, the glitch failed, so unpause, grab the power star, and try again.
3:10 - I found this glitch with the mic on my own, but it had a different effect. When I did it, it let me keep a mic when the boss was defeated, but after that it went away like it normally would after its used.
What was the number at the bottom right?
I found a somewhat annoying softlock in Ice Cream Island 2. If you have Tornado, go to the top of the stairs and fly to the top right of the mini-boss area. Grand Wheelie will not spawn, and the camera lock will make it impossible to go back or forward. My guess is that the lag from the three enemies attacking, plus my tornado attack, made the boss trigger not work somehow.
Once, while emulating this game, I managed to pull off the mic glitch in the fight with King Dedede. If I remember correctly, I accidentally timed being inhaled by him and using the ability perfectly, giving me what I remembered to be P9 (but it was likely P5, as 259 is impossible) uses. I was extremely confused, but I got to finish King Dedede off with P1 mics left to spare.
Great vid once again. I'm always impatient for the next one to come out. Not demanding anything, just saying I'm always hungry for more.
I remenbered there's an glitch in the Kracko fight in level 4, where if you fall into the bottomless pit and pause the game at the same frame as you died. The graphics glitches out, when returning back on the world map.
Man, one of the things I love the most about these videos is when I find out just what it was that happened when I encountered one of these on my own accidentally in the past. When I was a little kid and very first played this game 20 years ago, I distinctly remember having that 'useless splash attack' glitch going on, and it was very early after I started Extra Mode after beating the game for the very first time -- so I thought it was some kind of special ability that had something to do with the Fountain of Dreams that you can only use after beating the game, or something? And that there was more to it that I couldn't figure out, like a place where it'd actually do something or a way to turn it into a real attack or something... but I never could figure it out, nor could I ever activate it ever again, and for the rest of my life I've wondered what the heck was up with that. And here I am, all these years later, and I finally know that it was certainly a real thing, and I wasn't dreaming, but it was just a silly pointless glitch. Still, though, it's awesome to finally have the book closed on that once and for all.

The ladder glitch can also be done when going down a ladder by holding down-right or down-left. I attempted this glitch in the 20th anniversary edition, and it works as well as it does in the original.
And the only way out is to delete the anniversary save file.
the world 6 glitch can be done in the first level by glitching through the ground. With stone, the game still thinks that you are on land, activating stone causes an error which you will crash the game, and if you hit start at the same frame you will beat the game. but if you hit start a little bit later it will freeze up. also you can cancel the glitch by pressing start, then exit before it crashes, but this can cause some weird effects. when I tried it the ground is mostly invisible, then I reset the game and everything went better, but my pause screen is still pretty much messed up.
After getting Kirby's Adventure, the ability retaining glitch was the first I performed. When I used it on abilities like Beam or Spark, I instead got the "Kirby used Splash!" glitch.
A new glitch was discovered! Apparently, if you pause the game on the same frame an enemy spawns, that enemy isn’t paused. If it collides with Kirby, he becomes able to move while the game is still paused. This really messes with wall and floor collisions!
I'll try that...
I found some easter eggs. While the splashing glitch displays UI glitches, the words URN, HOUR, THO, and DO can be readable.

I ran into the level 1-2 HAL room on the NES when I was a kid, but it was different. I swear the warp star didn't take me up like it's supposed to, but rather flew me to the right of the screen where the HAL room is. I don't remember it too clearly but haven't been able to find any information online about this phenomenon...

for some reason, i used to get goose bumps and a shiver down my spine whenever i ran across a glitch. its like i had a physical glitch in real life. sadly, it doesnt happen anymore, but it did happen for the majority of my life.

I once softlocked Twilight Princess as Wolf Link. I broke a pot whilst falling from a ledge at the same time. The game just got stuck. This is most likely because the game tries to play the pot-break animation, and the ledge-drop animation at the same time, and the game does not know what to do, so it softlocks to avoid a bigger glitch. This glitch can be achieved in the Temple Of Time.
2:10 all copy abilities change Kirby's color. The glitch makes it so if Kirby looks different, he keeps that change.
The only ones I didn't know about were the stone glitch, Fire Leo soft lock, and the second-half of the stone glitch. Incidentally, a few of the glitches don't work in the 3DS remake, but trying to get the infinite Mike ability by using the ability on the same frame that Kirby touches the piece of the Star Rod results in Kirby taking damage and the Star Rod disappearing. If this happens, you'll have to quit the game and fight Paint Roller again.
