    My Craftsman made a clicking noise under the flywheel, DYT4000, I watch every TH-cam I could find, had the thing all torn apart, went at it with a voltmeter and traced a wire up to the mower engagement knob come to find out last time I used it I neglected to disengage it when I stopped. What a dumb ass! I’m only admitting my stupidity hoping this will save somebody an afternoon of frustration. Thanks to all who take the time to make these videos.

    Very nice video. In the old days we used to open the solenoid and reverse the copper contact ring to get us out of a jam until we could get a new solenoid. Is that still possible with the modern solenoids? Or are they sealed?

    Great video. I can find hundreds of videos of starter solenoid issues with other other engines that have that more traditional solenoid (the 14$ kind) but very few with the same type of starter solenoid package like I have on my Cub GTX 2000 garden tractor with a Kohler command Pro 640. This really helps. Which is the ground wire or how is it grounded? Mine is not even clicking. I went out and bought a new battery and it tests out and I have 12.52 vots to the solenoid with the key on. My switches tested out good. I want to make sure that unit is properly grounded and I can't figure out which is the proper ground wire so I can check conductivity? If I can arc the solenoid and turn the starter over does this mean I should change out the unit? Any help would be appreciated as I am a novice. Thanks!

    nice job MM1, I like to watch your troubleshooting methodology. Is the Kohler pro motor more like the command or the courage?

      I used the product in my vise restoration video. I did not do a full 1 on 1 video of the product. I found it worked quite well. Eric's video was really good, but it would be cool to test side by side with vinegar, just a thought for your video possibly. Thanks for forwarding my info. Bob

      @@laurijorgenson6683 buy a automotive relay old style. Run battery + to one side. Than the old power to the other side of it. Now at the selonoid set the power over to connect the stater. Now get a monetary toogle switch to power the new relay. Now when you turn the key switch the selonoid well engage the stater. Than use the toogle to cranke it

      @@stevenramey8667 I did this and it seemed to solve my problem, but then it decided to crop back up a year later. So I decided to replace the starter/solenoid. Worked for a few starts thinking i had the problem solved. Came to it recently and did not want to start. Not sure where to go now with the problem. I got it going once by using a power probe and running power to the starter. After that i was able to turn the key on and start it. Such a wierd problem.

    Question: When I use my multimeter to test DC Volts from the purple trigger wire to the negative cable of my battery I get 0.5 volts. When I do the same test with the Red wire I get 12.5 volts. My battery is new and it tests out to be good. I used a screwdriver to bypass the Solenoid switch and it made a big spark and knocked the screw driver out of my hand and I think I fried a fuse. What to do to get power through that purple trigger wire? There is no audible click.

    • @frankdavidson9675
      @frankdavidson9675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like you have 2 problems start over ---try the key do you get a click if not there is a 30 amp fuse between key switch and the soleoid some also have an amp meter this same wire check that fuse if its check this set your meter for 12 v dc pur red meter lead on white wire ( little bolt) on the solen oid conect black meter lead to any mounting bolt (ground) with key turned to start should read 12v dc if not find wiring error if you do have 12 v but no click replace solenoid one other test usea pair of pliers short 2 big lugs on solenoid dont mind sparks hold it does starter spin with that short if so that tells us the solenoid is bad so get a new one

      there is a solenoid on the bottom of the carb some have 2 wires some have one wire one wire(red ) should have 12v dc with switch on verify that that wire pushes on and it fall off that wire will cause the symtoms you have but it can be a more involved disc fuel from fuel pump to carb use pliers to remove clams turn switch key to start eng should spin lookat yu have disc.is gas running out if not sart at the tank loosen cap try the test again if gas comes leave cap loose till you can clean the tiny air vent you still have a fuel pump and a filter just a matter of elination to see the tble hope this helps

      No sorry you can’t

    • @kevin9c1
      @kevin9c1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEMOWERMEDIC1 Actually you could. The bendix is engaging. So you would wire in an external solenoid and connect to the terminal near the starter motor. The input to the solenoid would come either from the battery or the positive lug on the starter that you measured 12.3V. Then when you turn the key, two solenoids will fire. One engages the bendix (the one on the starter) and the other sends 12V to the starter motor. It should crank and operate just fine like that. A little bit of a hack but functionally legit.

      @@THEMOWERMEDIC1 Hell, why not? Not saying you, or me BUT you get people that either have no mechanical or chassis electrical experience... then you get a starter welded to the motor deck, a burnt +wire or some real idiot has a leaky carb or gas tank, etc. and burns his shed down haha. I just wouldn't want it to happen to someone that couldn't afford to mess their already broken mower up even more. I wasn't saying to 'put it in your vid' or anything like that- it IS a good informative video BTW
