    • @aralornwolf3140
      @aralornwolf3140 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      The one who passes everyone. The students at least learn from failure.
      Edit:
      I had a grade 11 English teacher who's marking scheme was too hard for his class: "Three or more Spelling and/or Grammatical Errors and you lose 50% of the mark." In effect, you needed to be perfect just to get 50% on the assignments if you missed a few typos in the work you submitted.
      The future Valedictorian of the school was in that class. He had the highest mark of 79% or thereabouts. I was on a Individual Educational Plan... and one of the things I required, and never used, was spell checker. I had 40% in that class... which was around the class average after one term. He switched classes with another teacher so he didn't need to tell the school that he failed ~70% of the students.
      He would have been fine for University English Students doing their Masters, not high school kids who were in the normal curriculum.
      He shouldn't have been teaching, yet everyone in that class tried to pass.

      one because the student could end up thinking they really deserve that grade, only to crash and burn later on because they actually don't understand the subject
      the other because they end up secondguessing themselves on every turn, not thinking they are not good enough, low selfasteem, depression and such. ending up with them being stuck and never even given a chance to even dream of flying.

      i went to a school like this and it was super bad. it was k-12 and there was gang violence in the school along with drugs being dealt, not in the 9-12 but the k-8 bathrooms. The principle was complicit in theft of my valuables at school keeping a few of my items not returning them to me even when my parents where told and came down. There where probably 3 teachers there that where good and the rest where like the sort in this video. The bus driver even had to deal with abuse by the kids there and was constantly threatened and messed with while driving us all. The school was so bad it had barbwire around it and changed its name every year. This school was a breeding ground for creating criminals and harboring them too. I hope these places get shut down just like op in this video.

      Its completely fake there is no way a rumor is going to go around about her sleeping with students without being investigated since literally everyone involved is a mandatory reporter, and the whole bluetooth spy network is impossible most older smartphones can't use a micro sd bigger than 16gb and none of them can make a file bigger than 4gb so she wouldn't be able to record anywhere near that much audio.

    • @chaotikkiller1617
      @chaotikkiller1617 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@tatsuhirosatou5513 Actually, strictly wireless mics are totally possible lol you would just whitelist them to only be shown to a specific device which wouldn't be that difficult at all. She said an old smartphone she doesn't use anymore which can easily be something like a Galaxy S7 Android which can hold a 400 GB SD card. Files of audio can be recorded and tracked to the extent of filling the whole phones storage. 8 hours of 44.1kHz audio only on a mono track recording system would only take ~10.2 GB of storage which is totally feasible to pull off even if you're recording on DIFFERENT channels and have 8 different sound tracks one for each desk it would still only be ~81.2 GB for that day which can then be edited down and taken off the phone to open up the space again. I think your reasoning here has been sufficiently debunked and I rest my case. The situation overall is completely plausible especially with the environment of which it's stated in.

    That story was a great ride! Former (way back) public high school teacher, and this story had so many conflicting ideas going through my head. First, I'm happy that the OP has found some peace and balance in her life. Second, I'm sad that a talented and passionate female math teacher is not in the classroom doing what she loves and making a difference in kids' lives. Third, bullying is everywhere. Some people who get into education thrive on the power (and usually use that power to compensate for a lack of intelligence or compassion). It's in every workplace, but I find it reprehensible in a school setting. Fourth, for-profit schools or any kind of financial incentive to educators (public or private) is an invitation to people in that important profession to forget why they are there and who they are supposed to serve. Faking grades to push kids through might mean more dollars in pockets, but totally corrupts what education is supposed to be about. Pay good teachers what they're worth and support schools to do the job - stop the con jobs. i'm going to step outside now and shout at clouds.

      Yeah it's her choice not to return to teaching because of the shit she went through and I don't blame her but at the same time it's a bit sad to because she sounds like an awesome teacher who cares about her students and teaching math, which is always a tough subject. I hope she reconsiders at some point down the line, maybe the actual friends she made can hook her up and she can tutor, because if the success she had with her students is any indication she had real talent as a math teacher and rapport with her students. 🙂

      In the abstract, from the peanut gallery, yes, it's correct to say that was a risk. But we can be fairly sure that OP judged it carefully, and calculated it for a reason. Not only is it reasonable to warn good people so that they can take steps to cover their own asses and avoid shrapnel from the explosion, but also it's clear that the computer guy in particular was a useful ally since he told OP about the buzzers. Clearly things worked out well -- I'm totally against using "it turned out fine" as a rationalization for bad practice, and you're right that a risk was taken, but I think the final outcome is decent evidence in favor of the safe assumption that OP thought through the choice carefully.

    This exact thing happened to me as well. I had a group of friends that were basically a bunch of misfits. They were all antisocial. I was the most social one of the bunch, and that’s saying something because I have an anxiety problem that is especially bad in public. I knew the feeling these guys had, so I felt sorry for them. I established a group of friends, pulling all the guys that didn’t have any friends into a group. We would go hang out on the weekend at each other’s house, go bowling, go to the movie theater, play paintball, those kinds of things. I own a private pond with great fishing in it. The fishing is basically the best around. I would take the friends that wanted to go fishing to this pond to fish with me and let them keep the fish. I started to notice that when Friday rolled around and came time to make plans for the weekend, every time I asked them what was going on they would say things like they don’t feel like hanging out this weekend or they’ve already got plans. I didn’t think anything about it at first, because we were all still on great terms I thought. Every time I offered to take them fishing or play paintball, they would jump at the opportunity. Of course, it was always at my expense. After a month of not hanging out on weekends like we used to, I got suspicious. I started paying extra attention to the things they were saying at work. “Oh that movie was great” or “i had a blast last Saturday”. That kind of stuff. I figured out they were just not inviting me anymore to our weekend gatherings that I started. So I devised a ruse of a sorts. My plan was to invite them to fishing to see if they wanted to do that, offer to buy their lunch to see if they would reciprocate, make plans on the weekend and invite them all to it, and also that same weekend get down to the bottom of if they refused my offer of getting together on the weekend (which I knew they would) figuring out what they did instead. Sure enough, fishing? Of course they wanted to go. Where else can you catch 200 fish in a day and some of them be 7lb bass? Of course they were ok with me buying their dinner (no reciprocation). Of course they didn’t want to hang out that weekend (surprise surprise). And of course they were going to the movies without me that weekend (terrible friends). I realized they were using me and had been using me for at least a few months. I was going into the military in a couple of months and quitting that job anyway, so I just broke off all contact with them people. I ended up making awesome friends in the military who I’m still friends with today, but it doesn’t change the hurt I felt when I discovered this group of misfits and established them and then got used and Broomed aside. That kind of hurt sticks with you. I still to this day can’t tell you why they did this to me. On the surface, everything was still great. We still got along at work and joked around. I just think some people are inherently selfish.

    I have to wonder about this story because it is a felony to plant listening devices without authorization. Recording conversations can be a grey area and I have been aware of cases were a party illegally recorded a conversation in order to show HR there was misconduct so to prove it was not a he said she said when the matter was reported.

    • @nerysghemor5781
      @nerysghemor5781 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That depends on what state this happened in. In a two-party consent state, you’re right. But NOT in a one-party consent state where literally only one party being recorded has to know they are being recorded, and as this woman was in the big room with all these microphones the whole time, technically she, the one party required to consent, was there. Even if technically she wasn’t always in earshot if every other teacher. So it’s a bit grey but in some states, not anywhere near as much so as a two-party consent state.

      Nico Kadel-Garcia The OP mentions they edited the recordings to cut out dead air and keep only the good stuff...we don’t know if they also took measures to delete or anonymize recordings of students. That, I believe, is the most likely explanation of how the OP would have gotten out of any problems with that statute.
      But if they didn’t think to remove or anonymize student voices, I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard surreptitious recordings used to catch physical and emotional abuse against students (especially special ed students, who are not always able to report the abuse), and then heard said recordings played on the news. This means one of two things is happening as I never hear about the teachers or parents being prosecuted for making such recordings: either the law you cited is being superseded by a whistleblower protection statute, or prosecutors are exercising their discretion to not bring charges...which they are entirely within their rights to do if they believe it does not serve the public interest to prosecute. And in a case where the aim was clearly to expose fraud of which the students and their parents were the victim, the public interest is going to be in favor of exposing and ending the fraud.

    • @mikeb.5039
      @mikeb.5039 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a valid point, recording a person without their consent can be a grey area in the case obtaining evidence for wrong doing but the planting of listening devices tend to violate privacy laws. There is a law firm in Florida under investigation for doing just that even if it was their own offices. On the other hand planting listening devices your own property well that is a different matter have a good day mate.@@nerysghemor5781

    I once knew a girl in highschool who told me that, when she was in kindergarten, she asked the teacher to help her because she was struggling with learning to read. Instead, the teacher moved her up to the next grade with the rest of the class by the end of the school year. This process continued to repeat until, next thing you know, she was a sophomore who couldn't read at ALL. I know this because I helped her a few times with her schoolwork, and she couldn't even read simple words like "cough" or "house".
    I was a Junior when I met her and, for my last two years of highschool, I'd actually been put into a special class for upperclassmen who needed to catch up on their credits in order to graduate on time and, thanks to the teacher, classmates, and the fact that we could work at our own pace and do history projects on whatever we wanted, those were the only years of school where I genuinely looked forward to it everyday. I even wound up graduating a semester early (right before quarantine hit, so I really dodged the bullet that was online classes).
    Mad respect to the teachers who actually want to make a difference and positively impact their students' lives.

    That WAS a good story. The narrator summed that experience up perfectly.
    I loved the “revenge boner” and the “knocked up before head hit mattress”. She’s hilarious.

    Only question what state, as some states would have charged her for illegal recording of people.

    Love this story. I normally don't click like/dislike for reading a document. This one gets a LIKE. I wish I could give this one 1,000 LIKES. An excellent choice of how a reddit post should be written. (No, I didn't even realize this was just one story in a half-hour reading.) Only thing missing is a TL;DR comment in the story.

    Im 14 going into high school, and ive already found out that %95 of the cool kids will be in prison in 5-10 years or something of the sort, and the kids who care about learning and ask a lot of questions will thrive. In addition to teachers respecting their students if they are respected. Love you ms. Davis, ms. Theriot, and ms. Rutledge

    I went to school in North Miami HS (Now torn down). I was so looking forward to taking biology that year I really wanted to learn. The first day the teacher said to the class "I have mine (education) and I don't care if you get yours." He was right he didn't. Another time he was walking down the middle of the hall between classes and singing "I hate kid." No one did anything about him. Bad school.
