@@SKBottom I dropped out and got my GED, went on to get a BS in secondary education with a double major in English (required to double major in education and English to be certified as highly qualified for teacher certification and employment). As a high school teacher, let me tell you that in the US, education is nothing more than teaching kids to pass the standardized tests required for graduation, and then being pressured by administration to pass students who have put in zero effort. I was so disheartened that I left the field entirely within 6 years. Our children are not being educated at all. Take a look at the number of universities that offer remedial courses in high school level English, and math, and you will be shocked. I was a high school student in the late 1980s, and became a teacher in 2005. My education in the 80s far surpasses the standards set for the same age group these days. I encourage anyone able to homeschool. Public education is garbage.

This teacher reminds me strongly of my high school math teachers. They could tell I was a good student that struggled to understand the material and they worked with me to keep my grade at a passing level. They would allow me to "show my work" and take that in account of grading since I struggled even with the extra credit, which allowed me to stay in the higher D and lower C range. They would assure me that their job was to ensure I learned *something* even if it was just proving that I was trying to understand. I know a lot of kids were too stubborn to take advantage of what it was the math teachers were offering (getting graded on your effort) and rumor had it their parents tried to put the blame on the teachers, but nothing ever came out of it. This was years ago but I'm thankful for those teachers who taught me to be accountable.

I probably would have liked this teacher. I used to hate group projects because I was the one that genuinely DID do all the damn work sometimes, and having my grade on the line because of other people screwing around. (Well, except for this one awesome group I was lucky enough to get in high school on multiple projects, that was all equally committed.) The contract this teacher has is AWESOME. Most of the time I just pulled the extra weight, but one time I had someone in 9th grade who did not ONE damn thing. But we went to the teacher before the project was turned in, not after. And fortunately because I performed in class and on tests, the teacher knew damn well I WAS doing all the work and believed me and failed the other kid. Even though back then there was no technological way to prove it.

3:06 that's a little unusual, most affluent parents would want there kids to truly exceed in life, and become successful, if I had a kid who constantly tanked his/her grades, I'd tell them they need to focus on school to better understand the world better and eventually find a job, if they argue then they will amount to nothing, as most jobs require a high school diploma or higher

I played him once and he was playing me inside the game, trying to see how long he could keep me pinned in a corner without giving me a stalemate. After about 20 moves I forced him to give me an “unforced move” during which I checkmated him.
The next 4 games that night he stomped me. He used to tell us that if you get either a zero or a hundred on a test you haven’t been tested.
He died 2007 and a week before he died I wrote him a letter telling him that I tried telling my children the things he tried teaching us. He told his wife something like, “It’s okay then.” He was too weak to write back.

I work for a law office. One day one of my HS Teacher, 63F, (popularly known to be "The" Terror Teacher) walks in our office looking to hire a lawyer to defend her from a lawsuit alleging she hit a student.
Little did the complainant know that said teacher is one of the most popular teacher among the alumnus, "for without her strictness, they wouldn't have survived collage". So, my employer (a senior in the law firm) called all successful and professional former students to testify in favor of her.
And so, lawyers, judges, engineers, doctors, police officials, school principals, businessman, government employees and officials, and even politicians banded together to protect her. They even held a party inviting all other teachers to honor them.
All of us sharing the same bond, the pressure and terror we felt when seeing her or being in her class, and all hilarious and stupid experiences we've had due to her or with her. Those were good times, indeed. 😂

The reason was I knew I was the only person making me go to classes and I could leave when ever I wanted to. I barely passed English in high school but in college I was straight A’s. That teacher was a good teacher. The last year there I had finally found the path I wanted and got a bad teacher in a English based class (technical report writing) I worked my but off to keep my 4.0 gpa. And then found out she doesn’t give guys in her classes anything higher than a B. Girls she would but boys she would not no matter how well they did. I still made a B and graduated with a 3.98 gpa. 38:15 it makes too much sence to refer these idiots as the three stooges, because it's a quest to fix a lazy procrastinator, and if you manage fix at least one, you on a scale higher then the throat of the world, because it requires a lot, and I mean a LOT of patients. I wanna know how much are you willing to put up with, until you say "fock it"?

At least one of those kids got his act in line and pulled himself out of the gutter. Good for him. For the rest of them, I don't feel sorry because the teacher gave them lots of chances to improve but they didn't take them.

That is a very different school from what I went to -- where most school graduates went on to Auckland University, some to Dunedin Medical College, etc, and more than one eventually became professors, judges (of the Supreme Court of NZ), etc. At my school, in those years, we all respected our schoolmasters, and I think in the main, they respected those of us who stayed and worked to the end of our final academic years.

I know there are bad teachers, but DAMN. Some of the stories, especially the administration wanting the teachers to let rules slide because terrible parents don't want to actually parent their kids would make me crazy. I'd get fired the first day because I'd tell a parent that their kid already had a cell in the state penitentiary, why wait?

I have NO sympathy for the seniors who failed, especially not where Larry, Moe and Curly are concerned. All of them were given multiple chances to turn their shitty attitudes around and work like responsible adults. They didn't. Failed class? Too fucking bad, so fucking sad.
There are people who work themselves to the bone to go to college. So asshats who ride on the coattails of enabling jackass parents and don't lift a finger to even do the extra credit work deserve the worst and more for not putting themselves into a challenge.

Am I the only person who thinks that our beloved narrator of tremendous stories sounds like Johnny Galecki - Leonard from The Big Bang theory? Also played David - Darlene's Boyfriend Leslie Winkle -(in the Original Roseanne) and Ira fom Suicide Kings. I'm probably missing some but I'm not IMDB. Even if it's not him this is now my fave Reddit Stories channel on TH-cam because it sounds like Leonard narrating all of these and it's strangely comforting and inviting. TREMENDOUS!

I never understood Seniors taking it easy in their last year. I understand that colleges treat junior year very seriously in the application process, but nevertheless, I had a tough curriculum my senior year. I took AP English, honors French, and honors Chemistry(long story) to make sure I graduated with a New York State Regents diploma.

Teachers that don't let their students fail are doing them a terrible disservice. it's the time they can fail and recover, learn to rebuild from mistakes, and can make them without great consequence. I know people who were never allowed to fail when they were little, and now, anything doesn't go perfect for them, they have a complete meltdown.

EDIT: The teacher is definitely a pro but I'm not sure this is revenge. He wasn't looking for retribution; he gave them plenty of opportunities to avoid failing. If they chose not to take advantage of those opportunities, that's solely on them.

I'm impressed, one would think that school was a time to learn academic skills as well as life
skills like learning to be accountable for your own life. The stooges muft it up and learned the
hard way. Cheers to a teacher who tried to be good and fair and teach the morons that being
accountable for ones self is a very important lesson.
