The Red Velvet coat is my favorite Capaldi look too! A very nice nod back to the Third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, who always wore velvet jackets (One of which was red). I also loved the Pen holder full of classic Doctor Sonics in the opening and the Picture of Susan from the original series pilot episode "An Unearthly Child" (1963) on his desk.

I love this season, Bill is so fresh & unique - I was sorry you didnt do a reaction to The Return of Dr Mysterio. "It's okay. I'm an intruder too. Yeah, I brought snacks. Mark of a pro." was such a Capaldi moment.
I love the fact that you say that Bill reminds you of Rose. They sold Bill this way as this season was coming out. The creators said they were shooting for another character similar to Rose--an ordinary girl who knows nothing about The Doctor or his life. So much so that they named her "Bill" after Billie Piper.
I love this season. I love Bill. I love Nardole. I love 12 as a professor. I love where the vault storyline leads. I love that it's both a fresh beginning and the end at the same time.
The Return of Doctor Mysterio had my favorite 12th Doctor line. "Everything ends and its always sad. But everything begins again too and that's always happy." Moffat named the companion Bill because during the filming of Day of the Doctor, David Tennant would call Billie Piper "Bill." Bill's foster mom was in the episode Gridlock back in season 3. She was married to the cat guy.

My favourite Capaldi season has begun! A wonderful introduction to Bill and the Doctors intriguing new 'circumstances' ...very excited to see what you make of it!
Fun thing about Bill in this episode: She spent months getting to know the Doctor on a daily basis long before she ever set foot inside the TARDIS. I think the only other companions like that are the 3rd Doctor's friends like Jo and Kate's dad the Brigadier.
I don't regard the Brigadier as a companion, though most do. For similar reasons, I don't regard Liz Shaw as a companion, though again most do. She never stepped foot inside the Tardis. And then there's Susan.

The people in the white suits fighting the Daleks are the Movellans(They're androids, actually). They were at war with the Daleks and nearly wiped them out. They were first seen in the Tom Baker era in the episode "Destiny of The Daleks"
Love the call back to Susan & River, all the sonics, etc! Love that Bill breaks all the norms, Doctor What, Its a Kitchen! Oh, and that the Doctor assumes he looks too young to have been there 50 years and Bill says no! And of course, the wonderful image of the Doctor as penguin with its arse on fire
In my head canon, Heather is actually a culmination of The Waters of Mars, mixed with the Midnight Entity. Which then just kept evolving more and more over time. I love this idea, because I always thought, the Midnight Entity was such an amazing villain, but we never actually got 100% confirmation that its intentions were really evil! Maybe evolution (like into something like Heather) really was all it needed....
Thanks. I just started this idea, because at first, Heather just repeated everything. Then, the idea just sort of.... evolved .... But nobody ever agree with me....
This episode was actually a call back to like a 5th Doctor episode where he visits the war between the Kaleds and Thels on Skaro, aka the rise of the First Dalek Empire
Ok, Matt Lucas had previously stated that when he played Nardol in The Husbands of River Song, he though t that it was a one off thing, but then they got him back to join the doctor for the next christmas special and series 10, he decided to play Nardol more professional.
Those white haired people In the dalek scene are called movellans. They appeared in “Destiny of the Daleks” and they have a war arc with the Daleks but they only appear in that one story themselves
The Fascination of writers with Peter's way of running is hilarious. First, Armando Iannucci kept writing scenes in which Malcolm Tucker would have to run then came along Doctor Who with the obligatory running, then Steven Moffat added this Penguin with his arse of Fire description just to drive the point home. 😁😁😁
the doctor and bill’s relationship is just so sweet. it’s such a lovely friendship and i loved that he had that after clara. also twelve as a lecturer is like my favourite thing
Doctor: I will build a great, great wall, and I’ll have the Daleks pay for that wall! (I’m sorry, but Shayla called the Vault the ‘Wall’ and I couldn’t help myself)
Boy I still love this Susan photo. I don't know what happened to her over the centuries (I assume she died during the Time War as the 9th Doctor said he was [a father and a grandfather] but he wasn't anymore, in The Doctor Dances or something like that). But if there's a single chance we could one day have her on screen again, maybe before a regeneration occurs, that'd be great. I like the Doctor having interactions with other Timelords/ladies. But having classic Who references -like the Sonic Scredriver collection- is always nice. Acknowledging, where you're from while moving forward, is the wisest course of action imo.
Makes me a little sad that you're catching up. :( Although I'm happy that you'll finally be able to browse the internet without having to worry about spoilers. I like this reaction. Just the way you reacted when Bill told the Doctor to imagine his own memories being erased was amazing. :D I like the way your mind works when you're giving your post-episode thoughts. You're very intuitive. Bill is my favourite companion from this era. She's funny and asks all the right questions. :) Your episode choices for this season are perfect, by the way.
Fyi, they released a modified clip of the Doctor and Bill talking about Daleks and then coming face-to-face with one (which we now know was actually Heather) a while before this episode to announce Bill as the new companion. I think it was nice the way they incorporated it into the episode.
I love how this comes full circle. After the opening credits the new companion is being woken by an alarm clock. This mirrors “Rose” in 2005, the “Pilot” of the reboot. The alarm tone is also the same.
Capaldi's TheDoctor I was responding to the others who did not seem to be aware. I would’ve liked to see her react to “Thin Ice” as well, but it’s her show. 🙂
BEST SEASON FOR ME ♥ I LOVE the Team Tardis we have on this season, the monsters, the speeches, the teacher-student relationship the Doctor has with Bill (that you can clearly notice since the first episode) feels so fresh, so new, and Nardole can be kind of annoying at first but he's also a good companion, putting a stop to the Doctor whenever is needed, just like Donna and Clara used to.
"He's trying to find something that he's lost" is so poetically appropriate in ways you couldn't have known about when you recorded this video. Perfect! The Doctor, Bill and Nardole are a great TARDIS team. Also, for me, season 10 has the best finale of them all. It's a great ride!
Fun fact: In this episode we have Bill and her love interest Heather. William Hartnell (the First Doctor) often went by the name Bill and his wife's name was Heather... the crazy part was that was a COMPLETE COINCIDENCE! Bill was actually named after Billy Piper (Moffat heard David Tennant call Billy Piper "Bill" while they filming the Day of the Doctor.
I love the way you start putting ideas and theory’s together after the first episode, just like the rest of us lol. This is my favourite series of New Doctor Who, I adore Bill she so brilliant and she feels real. Nadie is awesome. Seeing the photo of Susan was a beautiful touch and all the old sonics, got me in the feels. And Peters outfit this time round is on point!
Glad you liked that - S10 has a tough job to do coming after such a good season 9, especially with handling a new companion - but I think it, in general, does a cracking job. The new dynamic with Nardole, the thing in the basement, the Doctor's apparent 'mission', all add a new twist to the show which really helps make it feel a bit fresh.

So if I'm remembering correctly, the scene where they end up in the corridor with the Daleks, and there are people wearing white with white hair fighting back, I believe they (Doctor, Bill, Nardole, and eventually Heather) actually jumped into a Fourth doctor Episode called Destiny of the Daleks. It was the first episode Lalla Ward played Romana II, and I believe it's meant to be at the same time, as the corridor and the people in white, as well as that era of Dalek, would suggest. Just a neat tidbit for classic Who fans.
The 2 part finale of this season and Twice Upon a Time. Shayla's gonna spend three episodes going "Nope, nope, nope, sh!t!!! Nope, nope, nope f#ck!!!.......dammit!!!"

The show ended at Twice upon a time. If I took over as show runner I’d actually just go back to to that point and have that be some kind of dream thing
I love Bill and Nardole! Love the pictures of River and Susan on his desk.
Hm figured it would be the Christmas special but in kind of glad you just went on!
Edit: oh man I've missed that velvet coat so much now that pointed it out. Can't wait for some particular episodes in this series!
She did the Christmas special, you just missed it.
@@SebastienPatriote no I saw that one i was meaning doctor mysterio, there are back-to-back Christmas specials because Doctor Who was a off the air for a year but she skipped that one which I'm pretty glad for honestly!
I clicked on this so fast! I have been looking forward to this all week! All your questions will be answered, as the season progresses. :)
Capaldi's term was way too short. But it's crazy when you think that even Ecceleston only got one season and still how much of an imprint he left.
Love these videos Shayla!!!!!!! Can't say it enough. Thank you
Gotta love Bill! Her emotional acting is AMAZING!!!
did you know she's gay? Did you? She only says it like 30 times. But did you know she is gay?
@@AzguardMike AND???
The people in the white suits fighting the Daleks are the Movellans(They're androids, actually). They were at war with the Daleks and nearly wiped them out. They were first seen in the Tom Baker era in the episode "Destiny of The Daleks"
Love the call back to Susan & River, all the sonics, etc! Love that Bill breaks all the norms, Doctor What, Its a Kitchen! Oh, and that the Doctor assumes he looks too young to have been there 50 years and Bill says no! And of course, the wonderful image of the Doctor as penguin with its arse on fire
Peter's style in this season was a throw back to the 3rd Doctor... My fave.
"I'd leave it a few minutes if I were you."
I love season 10, and I think you will, too. Thanks for the reaction.
Heard u say the words "twice upon a time" and did see tears...... that's gonna change
I think of Heather as a kind of aquatic Ashildr/Me. I like your idea, though.
In what way?
Ok, Matt Lucas had previously stated that when he played Nardol in The Husbands of River Song, he though t that it was a one off thing, but then they got him back to join the doctor for the next christmas special and series 10, he decided to play Nardol more professional.
This was the first episode of Doctor Who that I ever watched live, and I have such good memories of it. You'll love series 10. I can't wait!
I went to "Australia" & had a lovely carrot cake & coffee with friends in Cardiff bay 😁
I love this season, it's the best season of Capaldi in my opinion. His "doctor" was just perfect on all these episodes, you are gonna enjoy it!!!
4:40 The paper crown he wore with Clara.. my heart can't handle this so soon rofl
I love the picture of the doctors grandaughter.
I'm already sending a bit box set of tissues for future reasons :D
Fyi, they released a modified clip of the Doctor and Bill talking about Daleks and then coming face-to-face with one (which we now know was actually Heather) a while before this episode to announce Bill as the new companion. I think it was nice the way they incorporated it into the episode.
I love how this comes full circle. After the opening credits the new companion is being woken by an alarm clock. This mirrors “Rose” in 2005, the “Pilot” of the reboot. The alarm tone is also the same.
Would've been funny if they added in the RTD era zoom in from Earth into the bedroom as well.
The ending is also the same as Rose with the new companion running towards the TARDIS.
Paul Morris I feel stupid for never noticing this before. At least Bill didn’t ditch Heather or a partner before running off.
Paul Morris +JustSoShayla “It got me feeling nostalgic for some reason..”.
Although, I wish you had decided to react to Thin Ice. That was one of my favorites.
Agreed, very surprised it was omitted.
She's watching all of it, just not reacting to all of it.
@@karlmortoniv2951 I know she watches all of them. I wish she would have reacted to Thin Ice. It would have been awesome to see her reaction to it
Capaldi's TheDoctor I was responding to the others who did not seem to be aware. I would’ve liked to see her react to “Thin Ice” as well, but it’s her show. 🙂
The old photo on the Doctor's desk was of his granddaughter Susan.
Enjoy the last companion with a well written story arc.
Omg you watched every episode I did in few months, it's really different feeling when you have to wait for months for new series
The red velvet jacket is my favourite too! I'm glad we got, like, 4 episodes in it.
"He's trying to find something that he's lost" is so poetically appropriate in ways you couldn't have known about when you recorded this video. Perfect! The Doctor, Bill and Nardole are a great TARDIS team. Also, for me, season 10 has the best finale of them all. It's a great ride!
I was confused for a bit... as I thought this as a review for the Xmas special... I was like at are we getting the review first? Lol funny.
The black and white picture is Susan his grand daughter .The first person who he traveled within until he abandoned her on a planet he dose that alot
Ooft. Welcome to Capaldi's best season (IMO).
You NEVER NEVER leave out a Christmas Special. They are called 'Special' for a GOOD Reason. They are Special. You will find out the answers at the Proper time.
She didn't leave it out, she watched it, she just didn't react to it.
She didn't leave it out you fucking twat she watched just didn't react to it are you that rude she's got to react to everyone it's her channel you idiot
It was her REACTIONS I was talking about. Hence my stressing the word 'Special'. I thought every one would have understood that.
@@Jamienomore Yes she doesn't have to react to every special
Ben Willetts. I KNOW SHE WATCHED IT YOU DICK HEAD!! Anyone with more than one Brain Cell would have known I was talking about Reacting to ALL the Christmas Specials. As I said, 'They are called Special' for a reason.
Glad I'm not the only one who "aww"-ed at Capaldi's cute smile.
(8:21)
The 2 part finale of this season and Twice Upon a Time. Shayla's gonna spend three episodes going "Nope, nope, nope, sh!t!!! Nope, nope, nope f#ck!!!.......dammit!!!"
