The war that the Doctor drops them into with the Daleks and silver-haired humanoids in white suits - its a reference to a Classic-era story, "Destiny of The Daleks", from the Tom Baker era. The aliens fighting the Daleks are Movellans, and they're a pretty close match for Daleks, they can even take multiple hits from Dalek guns. The implication is that if youre trying to shake off someone that's following you, running through a battle between Daleks and Movellans is a pretty serious place to be.
Remember the scene where The Doctor speculates that the substance is a living fluid from an alien ship, and that it made Heather its "pilot" because she wanted to run away. That explains the title of the episode.
The pilot was what Heather became. She is now the pilot of the spaceship. When they sneak Clara's theme in the memory erasing scene, that is what breaks me every time. A lovely theme with so many memories associated with it.
Hi Nicole! I've waited for this season for ages.❤ Bill & Heather named after William & Heather Hartnell. You soft hearted people❤. Heather actually attended the 20th Longleat celebration representing her husband. There are autographs of 'Mrs Dr Who'.😊 Space engine oil - "You can't keep putting Space in front of everything!"😂 Background White dressed people with the wigs - welcome back the Movellans! Typical Daleks, back to basics means back to the same war with the Movellans.
For me it's one of the best episode 1 of a series. (Not my favorite it's from the future) I love Bill ! One of my favorite companion, I love her energy. And I really like the mystery and the structure of this episode ! A great start for a great series 😊
Somehow series 10 reminds me a bit of series 4. As with Donna, Bill Potts is never afraid to ask the Doctor the questions I myself would like to ask. She's also a no nonsense kind of girl full of charm. Perhaps the wit lacks a bit, but she's doen to earth as Donna was. Thanks for a great reaction and a lovely channel.
I am absolutely convinced that this episode is linked to Midnight from Series 4, even if this wasn't in the writers' minds at the time. The repeating creature. The midnight blue colour of the liquid. The star in Heather's eye -- sparkly like a diamond. The queer women theme in both stories. The fact that both creatures are waiting for warm bodies to transport them, and their insane level of power and the doctor's inability to make sense of it... I think the creature in the puddle is a less antagonistic individual from whatever species we encounter on Midnight ✨ Funnily enough, Series 10 is my favourite series after Series 4. Bill is great and this run solidified Capaldi as my favourite doctor. You're going to love it 😊
I rate episodes with full numbers, I give it an 8/10, so an 8.6 makes sense. I'm glad to see you back. I'm ngl people didn't like Bill being both a woman of colour and lesbian and while it wasn't as common as nowadays I bet it got some dumb downvotes due to "diversity" or some nonsense, so idk if you can take the imdb ratings seriously moving forward Personally I love Bill and her and 12s interactions are top notch
Pilot episode called pilot. Every new story needs to start off beautifully on the right foot, and I found this episode very perfect for a fresh start, I really enjoyed this pilot episode. what a great start and introduction to the doctor and new companion as if it were episode 1 of season 1. :) - Doctor, why are you running like a penguin? - For aordinamics :D
I really like Bill. Pearl Mackie is great in the role. However that incredibly clumsy exposition to tell the audience that she's gay is daft and also unnecessary. Without that scene it would be completely apparent from the interactions with the starry eyed girl that Bill prefers women. Other than that I think it's a pretty solid episode.
i think this is important to note, this is the time the fandom started becoming toxic, and being angry at the show for being "woke" slowly review bombing the show, so i would recommend, do not trust the reviews, just be yourself, review it the way you actually feel about it
I think this is a good episode, but it did seem to lose its way a bit in the second half. The weakest part for me was the "relationship" between Bill and the girl with the strange eye. It makes me think of the breakdown of Amy and Rory's marriage at the beginning of Series 7: the idea is fine, it makes sense on paper, but we just don't see enough of it for the words to match what we experience of it as a viewer. The scene with the Dalek was expanded from a short trailer made for the series that wasn't originally intended to have anything to do with any of the episodes. The weird thing is that when I saw the trailer, I really didn't like Pearl Mackie's (Bill's) acting, and yet in the actual episode she's great. Maybe they reshot the scene for the episode, but I'm sure I was told they reused the footage. Anyway, this episode was a 3.5 out of 5 for me: solid, not amazing, nothing really bad.
@@andrewgwilliam4831 yeah the preview trailer for Bill didn't really sell what this new dynamic was going for, and sold Bill as being far more annoying then how she turned out, which was good.
For some reason Steven Moffat tried to pretend this was a jumping on point for new viewers, that it was fresh and new and could be considered ‘the pilot’ or ‘episode 1’ when it really really can’t. For a lot of this series to make sense, even episode 1, you literally can’t be a new viewer so I don’t really know what he was talking about
I can see why you only got 107 likes. Choppy scenes and constantly cutting people off in mid sentence. Example How did you get into my(cut) Just one word left a fraction of a second, and you couldn't let him finish the sentence.
I 💙 Bill! Pearl Mackie is a wonderful companion for Peter Capaldi.

it took me a bit of time, but season 10 has become my favorite season, and my favorite group of companions.
Another call for the great use of music in the Whoniverse - Clara's theme playing gently at 35:14
Series 10 is my favourite! I wonder what will be your thoughts about it. So exciting. And it's nice to see you back.
I do love series 10. Especially the last few episodes.

Bill is a great character! You may have noticed, she asks questions, but not exactly the ones you expect.

Basically a soft reboot of the show, sort of.
